- This video provides an overview to Chapel Hill Quest Martial Arts Winter Quest event that happened in February 2019. This seminar was lead by An-Shu Stephen K. Hayes and focused on the Takagi Yoshin Ryu school of Jutaijutsu/Jiujitsu. Some historical references are given along with some thoughts on proper To-Shin Do striking strategy. Enjoy!

With all due respect, I would argue that abandoning the tsuki kihon is like throwing away a surgical tool for the sake of a stone blade. Ichi no kamae trains structure. When ichi no kamae is positionally reversed it gives tsuki kihon. This pair is the fundamental core of taijutsu, which is ingrained in every other single movement, and then 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 (Fibonacci spiral is ingrained in the structure of Gyokko ryu it seems). By abandoning one fundamental core movement for the sake of a so-called "modernity" issue, the structure of taijutsu is somewhat broken. In essence one trains to react to, and attack with, a lesser quality of skill looping movement, the random guy's attack. On the other hand if one learns to successfully react to a short distance straight aligned tsuki, looping punches are even easier to deal with. In my opinion the goal should be to cut out even further, unnecessary micro-movents in order to gain fractions of a second, especially against a blade. The problem is that the attackers telegraph the attack, due to minute micro-movements they habitually repeat, in an attempt to simulate the average untrained attacker in the street. Only Mr. Hardee 's movement has quality flow, possibly due to the bjj cross-training.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and to comment with an actual observation and well thought out points.
I love the history behind it. Look forward to training! 👍🏾
Jayson Maduro thanks and thank you for watching 🙏
The right SPIRITUAL training eliminates future diseases with enough siddhis therefore look into that spiritual progress with An-Shu. We never have to be born with muscular issues, well any health problems through proper SPIRITUAL progress in this life thus protection.

@@TheNinjaEveryDay OK quite interesting, I knew a real Ninja once, was in Taiwan...Mario Kagawa..
Stephen Hayes....why fix it when it's not broken.
11:20 yes China 😉
I have to smh at that part about ichimonji no kamae.
He's spreading wrong info to those that don't know and will take his word as true.
I have love for him b.y.t come on.
Thank you for watching, and respectfully, What about it do you not agree with?
@TheNinjaEveryDay when he said "Takamatsu....he didn't stand like this".
That's his belief and opinion but fans/students will take his words as facts. That disrespectful to the art. If To Shin Do does it like that, cool. B.u.t that's not what Hatsumi taught him.
@@righteousshadowsdojopt.3979 Thank you so much for your reply and your thoughts. Best of luck to you in your training!
Why is Stephen Hayes changing this as modern? He is basically water it down. Samurai/ninja arts been tested in a actual battlefield. Distance and timing is done in those old time period against stronger and faster opponents. Dealing with modern fighter are now faster and fighting closer now. He should follow the old tested method(maintaing distance ).
Eddie Hizo is this a personal observation or is this something that you have heard?
Taught and trained underneath shihan Manaka. Been in this for more than 30 years.
Experienced in many altercation from either a knife fight and multiple opponents outcome as well. Some where ex-felon.
Currently a correction officer in the Lancaster state prison.
Maintaining distance against a faster and stronger opponent is the key. It can make your opponent open up to you to see an opening for a target. This is taught in a foundation training in the beginning with the 45 degree evasive maneuver method. Distance is always reliable.
Very disrespectful.
sg1gamer what do you mean?
@@TheNinjaEveryDay Speaking poorly of Masaaki Hatsumi is not acceptable behavior.
sg1gamer I went back and watched the whole thing and didn’t hear anything specifically disrespectful about Soke. Thank you for watching.
@@TheNinjaEveryDay At time stamp 3:20. Starts talking about Takamatsu Soke and goes on to say that He(Stephen Hayes) made Hatsumi Soke famous. Poor form as i see it. Not cool but whatever man. Peace
sg1gamer I can understand why you think that. Peace my friend and thank you for watching.
