TEDxBloomington -- Stephen Hayes -- "Wisdom Plays to our Attention"

- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- An-shu Stephen Kinryu-Jien Hayes, founder of To-Shin Do Kasumi-An Ninja Martial Arts has spent his entire adult life in the pursuit of perfection through the study of the Asian martial arts and spiritual traditions, living and traveling throughout North America, Japan, Europe, the Arctic, China, Tibet, Nepal, and India.
Stephen has been described as one of the five brightest stars in the martial arts; a legend, by Black Belt Magazine Yearbook 1998, one of the ten most influential living martial artists in the world, by Black Belt Magazine March 2006, and a legend in the martial arts, by Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee, father of Taekwondo in America. He has demonstrated self-protection combat skills to military and law-enforcement groups including the U.S. Air Force Academy, the FBI Academy, the American Society for Law Enforcement Training, and members of Britain's elite SAS. He has worked on special assignments with the United States Department of State Dignitary Security Services, and under contract with the United States Defense Intelligence Agency.
Dedicated to promoting the benefits of Life Mastery Through Martial Arts, he travels the world as teacher, seminar leader, and lecturer, inspiring others by translating his extensive background in martial arts and meditation into practical lessons for handling the pressures, uncertainties, and stresses of life. Many students, readers, and seminar participants have reported that his teachings have brought them deep encouragement and empowerment, and inspired them to achieve new levels of success in their personal and professional lives.
His presentation at TEDxBloomington started our conference day with a provocative explanation of what "ninja" really means, followed by a cautionary tale of what might happen when you read fiction in junior high study hall. His experiences as bodyguard for the Dalai Lama resonated strongly with the Bloomington audience.

About TEDx In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBloomington, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBloomington event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
Mr. Hayes is one of the highest caliber martial artists I have ever known, and indeed one of the highest caliber human beings I have ever known as well. As a master martial artist with the ability to transmit and teach esoteric and long-hidden combat and mind science methods to a Western audience, he is peerless. I have personally felt his martial techniques. Many times. Lets be very frank- you don't get into Blackbelt Magazine's Hall of Fame, then years later have the same authorities in the field name you "One of the 10 most influential living martial artists in the world" , and also become the security director for Nobel Peace Prize winner H.H. the Dalai Lama for many years by being incompetent, "bad" or unable to deliver. For example, In a Discovery Channel documentary on ninja a few years ago, Mr. Hayes defeated 2 highly trained, armed and very experienced L.A. PD officers protecting an individual. Stephen Hayes was able to circumvent their security, totally unarmed by merely "getting in their heads" and using the very methods he teaches. He single-handedly accomplished what others could only accomplish using a fully armed, 6 member authentic Navy SEAL team. His skill level and expertise speak for themselves.
Lololol.... I Wana see it or it's BS
1970s. I remember practicing kendo and judo in Japanese American community center Norwalk California. This training saved me and my friends in 1980 ninja shows on channel 4 was popular. I remember seeing Stephen here’s at all the martial art stores. Real ninja. Thank you. Downey California
I always loved Steven K Hayes. This video was a real treat.
Thank you for that , Stephen always struck me as an interesting man from the books . I needed that
Awesome man - glad I was able to spend a short weekend with him when I was younger. Wished I stayed with it but life took me in other directions. A very good person and an awesome teacher.
Teaches NONSENSE
Professor Ronald Duncan is a great man and I would certainly consider him legendary and have grown a lot as a result of my acquaintance with him. This video, however, isn't about Duncan. It's about another great and legendary man, who has done harm to none and helped so many. I would respectfully suggest that Duncan followers should take advantage of the lesson in this video and grow. We all need all the help we can get to achieve enlightenment. It's not all about killing, you know.
An-shu Hayes is amazing,I love learning To-Shin Do its saved my life.
I love this video just a little more every time I watch it. Learn just a little more.
Stephen is legit.
Legit human being
Who teaches nonsense martial arts
@@stevek.hayesmma7334 tell me, what bjj technique allows you to survive a stabbing from a razorsharp naginata ... moron
Steven K. Hayes has influenced my life journey greatly. I honor him.
That is *so* cool. I was just reading about the Gethsemani encounter, had no idea that Hayes did security there! Perfect choice. True gent, pioneer.
Awesome, I read books when I was a teenager and I was impressed then as I am now.
I really enjoyed watching and listening to Stephen K Hayes I read all of his books when I was 17 and also studied ninjutsu
I read all his books at 11 years old
Funny so was I until I got trained
This guy is pretty cool, and To-Shin Do is awesome!!
Good stuff. I will look at situations of violence completely differently now.
thank you, so much
I'm a gung fu guy, but I've always admired Hayes. Looks like Major Dad too. lol
XZaapryca OMG!!! I can see it now!
Man, I'd love to have a conversation with this fellow. I read his book when I was 13 years old, and he sounds like such a good-natured fellow.
Which one? He's got a bunch of them.
I used to read his books in the 1980"s. Him and his instructor. Masaaki Hatsumi. Ninja (or Shinobi) were simply Black Ops of feudal Japan. Highly skilled. But special forces of a feudal age just the same. This man has been studying with what is left of them for over forty years. One should not scoff at what he knows or "doesn't know." Illusion and deception are the trademarks of his craft. One should not quickly judge by shooting off an overactive mouth without first knowing the facts. This is a trademark of ignorance and juvenile maturity. And we have way too much of both in the USA.
That's pretty cold man. I'm sure Duncan wouldn't approve. Good is as good does. Love the Professor by all means. He is to be honored greatly! Hayes certainly deserves top respect. To denegrate him using Duncan's name is to dishonor the professor as well. You need to grow brother.
He seems well and made a living from his time spent In japan .
Stephen Hayes is the man.
I was under the impression that the anger of the past was over and that the parties to the anger had grown beyond it and had learned to focus on themselves instead of on jealousy or petty envy. Shouldn't we accord respect to each in his measure? Focusing on growth and honor is much preferable to keeping the hate going, wouldn't you agree? So much suffering has come from thoughtless anger, juvenile selfishness and a general lack of compassion. Most advanced practitioners realize this.
"we're not here to educate people, we're here to entertain them" ... perfect, just brilliant, couldn't have said it better myself: this right here, that's MMA/BJJ/Grappling/Wrestling/MuayThai/Boxing/Combat Sports in a nutshell ... you can't educate willingly delusional people like Joe Rogan or Jocko Willink or Royce Gracie etc. ... all they see is what they want to see and what they want to see is money, fame, hype ... that's all they're after ... YOU EF SEE, BEE JAY JAY, EM EM MAY!!!
The way of a person is an essential as to how they are viewed as well such protectors, Lamas, mechanics, and housewives need true discernment of being part of the light judiciousness beyond the supreme being status of judiciousness towards non-retrogression after being reborn.
"Truth" is a funny thing. Why the hostility? Your time might be better spent in mourning than on insulting the credibility of other great men. You represent Duncan quite poorly with your immature and closed-minded comments. GROW!
I was one of the teenage suckers who bought his books. Note to the young: You can't learn martial arts from books!
Maybe not exclusively, but they're an excellent supplement.
@@Breaker197 ya..but when you actually have to defend yourself from someone seriously wanting to hurt you.. these techniques will get ya killed
funny, I have a book named The Juji Gatame Encyclopaedia ... just as useless
shikin haramitsu daikomyo!!!
Was nice to study under him.
Fun and all that.
But when it comes down to actual fighting..none of this bs works...
It's true.
so the meaning of the speak is pretend good! ....well, i dont know yet...
I used to train in master hayes dojo in West Carrollton Ohio.
Hope you never had to protect yourself...
It wouldn't have went well for ya using his nonsense
@@stevek.hayesmma7334 I haven't because I was a little kid when I trained there. I usually don't put myself in scenarios where I need to defend myself and usually when I'm out and about I have something sharp on me.
jutaijutsu the best
y@aethiops007 Master Ronald Duncan is recognized by the bujinkan Grand master as a sister school of the koga system and is well regarded. No riavalrr
What's cold? The truth? I suggest you do some research as to what Duncan thinks about this fiasco. There's an interview on YT search it out. Thank you.
I'm not advocating rivalry or trolling but, just telling the truth. I'm talking about Hayes NOT Hatsumi.
both are legendary
If Stephen Hayes has not figured out what a ninja is by now then the chances of him ever knowing must be beyond his understanding. Stephen Hayes will go to prison for his crimes against innocent people or war will be declared.
This guy's realized keeping people entertained talking , works better than convincing them his ninja bs actually works
OK. Look at the video I sent you. ;)
Did you learn that from Elmo or Sesame street?
the Joe Rogan Podcast probably
The truth is he is a bad martial artist. His techniques are not impressive and look made up. When you take that into account, the talk is BS
You obviously have no idea who he is..
would you prefer 2 bare chested cavemen locked like a bunch of wild animals inside a fn cage ...
No idea what anything he said means at all-a complete waste of time-
Quite boring
martial arts take discipline, it's not for everyone :)
I bet the guy has never been in a real fight, bullshido
I actually take Toshindo, 5 years nearly and I will say that this IS a legitimate martial arts.
Albeit you would likely need proof, I can say just by my word that his schooling taught me self control, how to control a situation before it becomes violent, and obviously how to protect myself and others. I am just going to end this by saying I am pretty sure he has been in some form of fight before, albeit I can not say for certain. Take care man!
Typical youth with no clue you are.
Tai jitsu
jutaijutsu
What a scam artist. He should be arrested already.
sure, because the Gracies are so legit lol
@@SINdaBlock411 I don't understand?
@@Herc11355 the Gracies are scam artists
Did he get paid for this??? I hope he got paid... it was worth the money!!! it is all about the money.
Gracie Jiu Jitsu is too ...
He's totally not a credible person
Says random on the internet.
said every Joe Rogan/Jocko Willink/Gracie nuthugger ever
He's LYING!!!!!!!!!!! Ronald Duncan IS the Father of American Ninjutsu!!!!!!!!!!!
Seems like a nice person but something doesn't add up. Ninja?? Really? Fantasy more like it. Good story teller.
Bujinkan, its real, they train
He is such a clown
if he's a clown, then I can only imagine what the Gracies must be
Realistic fighters @@SINdaBlock411
