    Your Taijutsu (body movement) is like watching poetry in motion. You have to be one of the best martial artist I know that can show the connection with Ninjutsu (6 schools) and Jui taijutsu (3 schools) when dealing with all 9 schools. (Some will understand and some won't) you are a jewel to both arts and you are turning out some of the worlds best martial artist. Thank you for sharing this story.

    These are my two favorite arts. They are both incredible.
    You are Anshu Stephen K. Hayes top apprentice. You do him and Anshu Rumiko Hayes proud. Also you do Soke Hatsumi and your BJJ Coaches proud.

      I'm starting with To-Shin Do. I had studied some HEMA (Fiore) before which includes a lot of grappling but I don't think I'm ready for the amount of groundwork that is BJJ. I am also looking forward to doing some meditation/mindset growth that is included with To-Shin Do.

    So, are the kata in toshindo limited and never personal? I always felt that real bujutsu was more like jazz than classical. It was about feeling, adapting and making it yours.

    I know you said you don't know if anyone cares about this subject. Maybe some don't, but I certainly do!! I was thrilled when I was notified of this video. I think the EXACT same way as you. Literally everything you have said is something I've been thinking about for the past year. Not claiming I'm as skilled as you by any means, but I have definitely thought the same exact way. I hope to train at your school one day. This is literally something I thought of several months into training in Ninjutsu.

    Great explanation. I love both as well. I don’t understand why some dojo’s don’t allow a person to explore other arts comfortable. It seems a lot of dojo’s want you sold out to their dojo or nothin. That creates tension and stagnant water on growth in my opinion.

    • @jaysonmaduro1475

      I also know every martial art is flawed in some way… because it’s created by humans 😄. As long as we are flawed humans ( always and forever ) we can not create anything perfect and flawless. I think studying different arts helps a person discover their own flaws and weaknesses to become a better hero or protector. Ground needs stand game, and stand needs ground game to be more well rounded.

      @@jaysonmaduro1475 really well said sir. Yeah, a lot of folks only want to/need to do one system but I love both. They ultimately compliment each other so well and they have enough congruency that they blend wonderfully. They didn't at first for me but my hope is that people can't tell where one starts and the other ends.

    I enjoyed this video as someone who practiced To-Shin-Do in Dayton at the Quest Center from them time they were 7 to 14 years old. Unfortunately, I allowed high school sports to take over. I am now, at the age of 29, getting back into martial arts. At this time I am starting BJJ, as I am not super close to a Quest Center in Lexington, KY. I am a travel nurse so if I find myself near your Quest Center or any other I will be coming in to train while I am there! I am excited to challenge my mind and get my confidence back up for self defense again. Luckily, the gym I am starting at in Lexington puts an emphasis on Jiu Jitsu for real life scenario over sport.

    also to shin do It is a modernized version of ninjutsu, and differs from the traditional form taught by Masaaki Hatsumi’s Bujinkan organization.[3] Instruction focuses on threats found in contemporary western society.[4] In addition to hand-to-hand combat skills, students are exposed to: methods for survival in hostile environments, security protection for dignitaries, how to instruct classes and run a school, classical Japanese weapons, meditation mind science, and health restoration yoga. does it work in mma if you cross train in with bjj

    • @tobybrown2674
      @tobybrown2674 8 місяців тому

      @@davelarkin2646 because nobody needs to ask if BJJ/wrestling/boxing/muay thai/judo is effective or not. It self evidently effective because we see those arts used all the time in mixed martial arts and thousands of street fight videos all over youtube. MMA is the closest thing we legally have to no rules fighting. Anything you see working in MMA works. Also I'd say that any art that pressure tests its techniques is also legitimate. Because sparring is a process to weed out inferior techniques, positions, and movements.
