Longines is so underrated. The fit and finish of their watches is unbeatable at their prices . It also seems to me they keep innovating and giving the market what they ask for . So many home runs from them over the last couple of years . The big eye pilot chrono , the LLD , the new ceramic hydro conquest , the flagship line , now this . Hats off to Longines . Thanks for the first look .
I think it's one of the most beautiful pilot watches I've seen so far.
I have this watch in black and love it, such a nice looking watch and I don't think anything comes close for the money. The dial is something else and I've had lots of compliments, and by people who are not into watches as well. Great video.
Thank you for this amazing review! 100% agree. Have 2 Longines and looking into a 3rd, this Spirit-Matte Green version definitely caught my eye. Longines is a wonderful brand, makes superior quality watches and the long history behind it is the cherry on top, especially when compared to higher priced brands and options.
I love it! I'd go with a chocolate Brown strap over this beige, but love the watch.
The trim around the numbers is just such a nice touch

I just purchased this watch this weekend and absolutely love it! Interestingly enough, mine has the date window at the 3 o'clock and also the number 3.
That means yours is the 42mm version. The 40mm version doesn't have it.
Another great review, many thanks. One of the Longines watches fell off my watch 'watch' list last week after three of them had casually ambled onto it this year, why has one fell off? I purchased the Longines Tuxedo last week. This watch has just jumped onto this list. I love the red tipped second hand, the COSC certification at this price is a bargain for such a great brand as well. I completely agree that in my humble opinion this would be better without the date complication but I can grudgingly over look it a little in this case as it is a black on white background execution of this complication. I would prefer it at the 6 position though. As for QA, well as you say I've yet to see a perfect watch. As I tend to wear them they will get gain imperfections anyway, as long as the hands align and it's reasonably accurate it's something I can live with. If I had any minor gripe with this watch it would be the that the seconds markers on the chapter ring do not align much with the beat rate of the movement but I guess this would be nearly impossible at a beat rate of 3.5 Hz so not a big deal. A great review. My wallet hates this review.
That strap at 1:08 caught my eye! I have an identical strap from the same period. The strap itself is "welded" onto itself with those two metal heads after being looped through the spring bars. Waiting for a 28 mm Longines cal.12.92 to be inserted into the fixed case 👌
I hate the strap. Surely it cant be real leather, it looks and feels like cardboard.

I recommend you try it on at a dealer. I did so today and to my surprise it fit perfectly on my 6 3/4" wrist and looked better than the 37mm! So I bought it!

Really wanted to see the positional error on timegrapher for all three most common wearing positions for this Longines Spirit - dial up, 6 o'clock up and 9 o'clock up (missing in this video). Test for these three positions is really necessary and essential for all reviews.
(Isochronous error is also interesting, especially for silicon hairspring in L888.4 caliber, but it's not essential, just curious).
Glad it was helpful! We like to keep the videos length manageable so the video stays watchable. So we wont be doing 3 positions but dial up and 6up or 12 down as we call it is a good indication.

Today I went to my local dealer to try on the 37mm Spirit (black) and the Silver Arrow. I then tried on this green 40mm and to my surprise it fit perfectly on my 6 3/4" wrist and looked the best of all. The long lugs curve nicely around your wrist and create a very secure fit! Nobody seems to mention this. And yes, I bought it! My only complaint is the leather strap - it looks like it was made out of cardboard so I will be replacing it.

I've always found this to be such an amazing looking watch but I've tried the 40mm and the lugs simply hang way over my wrist. I have 6.5 inch wrists so they're small but not extremely small, just the way the lugs are I suppose. Great looking watch, especially with these new titanium no date 40mm colorways coming out.
Yes I have same size wrist I think its size is a tad large but not so large that its a deal breaker but only on the strap. The bracelet male endlinks extend the watch length so much on this one.

Nice one, though I really associate "pilot" to the Flieger designs :-D The finishing is good but the dial is what grabs me, especially the indices. Would wonderfully complement my Hamilton Khaki Field. And thank you for mentioning the matching of the seconds hand!

PS. I was a USAF fighter pilot for 8 years. I avoid olive drab like the plague! Lol. Otherwise, I would love the color. Love the watch ( in blue on brown leather, maybe)

That they threated the sapphire on top, screams for troubles over time. The long log to log is also a downer, otherwise it’s pretty nice

surprised at the movement performance. eta really gives longines the best it has. I was looking at IWC Mark series but now have to think harder.
Longines watchmakers work with ETA to produce longines only improved versions of their movements.
Me too l have to mention staying honest; I have the emotical impression, the green Spirit from LONGINES, does obtain more Sympathie from me, than the black-,one or the white now that l have seen "Spirit green",- I am the owner of a freshly aqquisted by me for me black Spirit automatic Chronograph here in the IWC town Schaffhausen,in better accuracy; l had my 63th birthday m.o.l. 20 days ago,and l made this old man a present precieut enough.
Really nice but I prefer the 42mm size - 40mm is more for a dress watch.

You have to check out the blue on blue 40mm Longines Spirit!
sells out too fast when we get them in stock so its impossible. Longines takes about 3-8 months after we order to arrive for some crazy reason and the blue sells inbetween the time.

Excellent review. I especially like this green color. Quick question: Do you or anyone know if the need be, if the rate of the movement can be adjusted? For instance, my understanding is that the powermatic 80 movements can't without sending them back to the factory. The traditional eta 2892-a2 has a very small screw that can be used to speed up or slow down the movement by simply opening the back of the case and using a small screw driver. Is this the case with this one as well? I'm a stickler for a watch running slow. You can buy this watch, be running -2/day and still be COSC. I'd rather it run +2/day.
It has a free sprung balance. So it is regulated by weights on the balance. Not something you want to try and touch. Very difficult to regulate. Remember these movements could drift as the years go by. The -2 may become +3s in a year or two. Or it may become -5s. They are never permanent from day one.
@@EscapementWatch Thank you. Don't know the benefits of a free sprung balance wheel but the ability for a regular person to adjust the rate with a simple screw driver is a big plus in my mind that this takes away.
The main benefit is the hair spring is always the same length for greater accuracy. With the screw you shorten or lengthen the spring slightly by changing its length by moving the anchor point via the screw which speeds or slows the rate. I like having the screw too so I can adjust my own watch over the years.

I would have gotten this but I don’t like how they did the date complication.
Love this longines...but im struggling to decide which one to go between this or sinn 556i As they are on the same price range in my local area. I need a tool watch for daily wear with a bit of elegant and luxury feel to it 🙂. Any thoughts or suggestions ? Really appreciate your guidance..thanks
Maybe get the sinn if you're going to use it for a everyday tool watch. Because this one has a AR coating on the top of the crystal which will probably get scratched up. But for looks and history and brand name I would go Longines

Green is the new black. But black, blue, and white dials will ALWAYS BE in fashion. Green?....... could go out of style while that Longines still has 50 years left in the tank!
It's a really lovely watch and the green is perfect. It does look too big for your wrist though - those lugs are too long
Camera does make it appear larger as well then it really is on me. But yea its a tad big but I can pull it off.

I'd take 21mm lugs over 19. It kills me that they don't display their movements and the water resistance is typically pathetic. But I love them!!!😫 why do they do this to me??? Stop being so watch appropriate and give us these things!!!
Lug to lug insanely long, killing the purpose of a gorgeous 40mm dial. They need to learn from Seiko when it comes to wearability

Lovely watch. However, I wish Longines did not feature Lindbergh so prominently in its literature.

Try one on, you'll change your mind. The curvature makes it fit real good.

It does look gorgeous no denying that, but Longines always screws up the dimensions IMHO. 21mm Lug width and the lug to lug makes it wear bigger than it needs to be. Shame.

While I really like the watch, a green dial is not, in any wsy, shape, or form "authentic.". Great, you like it better, but show me ONE issue timepiece from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, or other war with a green dial.
