- LinknLink have just released a line of smart home products that includes an Alexa enabled presence sensor that only costs 16 quid!! See my discount below... Oh and it also works with Home Assistant ;)
This video is sponsored by LinknLink, all opinions are my own.
Presence sensors vs motion sensors is an easy one, motion sensors are waiting for motion, this presence sensor uses radar to check you are still there, so even if you're still the lights don't go out.
Thanks to Modbus support this presence sensor works with Home Assistant, but don't ask me how to do it! 😂. Google Home Support for this presence sensor is coming soon, LinknLink are working with Google to get this working now!

Happy Saturday everyone! RF, IR, Humidity, Temperature, and motion in one hub is insane at a little over £50 and a radar based presence sensor under £20 is insane, get them discounted even further at the links below until November 18th!...

Can you program this device as a garage door remote?
The garage door remote likely uses rolling codes for security, so the answer is possibly, but probably not. Impossible to know without trying
Hey Paul. Do you know what is the lowest RF frequency of the device? I bought the Broadlink and couldn’t use it because the fan I have ise a 304.25 RF frequency. Do you know if the LinknLink hub goes down to that range?
Hi Paul, do you know if there is a database of IR codes avalible from that app, I have an A/C unit that ive lost the remote for so cant teach it the codes :(
Sonoff has one for 15$ that is Zigbee and works offline, and with everything else and is USB power fed
A top I've seen elsewhere is to set your routines up (if your system supports it), so that when no motion has been detected for 5 minutes, the lights fade out over another minute or so - it gives you a more subtle trigger to shift your position without getting plunged into darkness because you're too stealthy
One addition to this if it's an option is to set up the 'turn on' trigger to determine whether the lights are fading off, and fade them back up to reduce the jarring sensation of the lights having faded half way and you suddenly realize you need to move a bit. In HA, you might set a helper as a boolean that gets set if the lights are fading, and then the turn on condition has an option that checks to see if that helper is true or false. The associated automations would clear the fading state as part of their actions.
Note that I'm not sure if this is something that can be done in Alexa or Google Home.
Cool idea. 👍
I have multiple lights in my office, and I have had them all switch off and need to move. I fixed it by setting 2 routines, first one turns off one light after 2 mins, the second one everything else after 4 mins. And the presence detected turns everything on. So if the one light goes off, I move, it comes back on.
I LOVE these ideas!! ❤️
Man I miss these videos! Haven't been getting alerts. Thanks for the great work, Paul.
ModBus is an industrial protocol often used in data center meters and building management system sensors. It's so olde that it used to use RS-485, and sometimes still does.
I'm going to buy this, thank you Paul for bringing this to my attention.
Ordered the eMotion, looks interesting. Will be playing with it next week. Thanks for the tip
Paul, is there a sensitivity adjustment? Necessary to prevent false triggers such as a curtain blowing in the breeze or the moving blades of a fan perhaps.
Do you have any idea of the detection range, im thonking of in a long hallway to turn on lights perhaps
Really useful product must give it some thought but it looks like it could control the heating in your house and switch it down perhaps when you have gone out.. Paul also explains all parts of it very well.
Get Paul, does the separate temp/humidty sensor/hub also not trigger events in Alexa? I’m wondering if the all-in-one hub may be limited to only the presence sensor for events.
Never seen your channel before, glad I stumbled upon it! You've gained a new subscriber!
Yay! Thanks mate!! 😁
Great video, it’s crazy how cheap this is given the features!
Hilarious and entertaining as always. What a neat bit of kit and a great discount thanks to you. I’ve ordered the hub and will now think up some uses for it.
You'd better think quickly before it arrives so you have a credible answer for your partner😂
🤣🤣@@David-bl1bt
Hi Paul, great video as usual, you talk about your tv and set top box, is that a Sky Q box ?
I'm watching 14 hours after the upload and both UK and US Amazon out of stock on the presence sensor.
@Paul, you had any interference with this unit? I find my Aqara FP1 gets lots of interference from TV, monitors and (oddly enough) my secret labs chair. But I can see that in the Aqara app, so I know it's interference. Does this unit have the same ability to see interference in the app? Basically, can you easily detect false positives?
Ok, not sure I get it. You were laughing about tcp but actually their page says it supports local tcp connection. You know, cloud based connection is nice as long as… no, it’s not. If company decides to charge you for it or just closes, you can put device in a bin. So local connection for reliable device is a must.
Any chance to know whether all these devices (especially emotional) can work fully local?
Yes, I am using home assistant and I want to integrate it with HA (if at all) and ideally not via the app.
Looks like it can be integrated intoi Home Assistant using Modbus without having to ise the Cloud/Alexa/Home
Need one of these, you had me at radar! Always love a Morpheus reference 😂
I can’t believe how cheap they are!!
I know you're going to hate this question, but does the temperature and humidity triggers work with Google? 😬
this looks exaclty like the simplistic and cheap option of presence detection i was looking for. ordered two with the promo code - thx.
Are you using Amazon UK? When I enter the code it says "The promotional code you entered is not valid"
How did u get this to select a certain to station etc? Want to make it open certain apps etc on Apple TV if possible
Thanks for another great gem Paul, a smart gem. I recently bought a switchBot Hub2, it also does Temp/Humidity and IR. Granted It does not do Radar, that's cool. My question is, would it be worth getting too.
Great vid as always. Wasnt gonna buy one but then i spied the discount code and gave in. 😂
Thanks for the video. I'm still looking for a RF controller for 866Mhz, used by a curtain controller from Italy. Any ideas?
You got me. Already ordered one and it will be here tomorrow
Nice! At that price you’re getting a ridiculous bargain
Hi Paul, always enjoy your videos and they make me laugh! I got a couple of these and I seem to get a lot of false person detected alerts. I've reached out to their support but wanted to know if you experienced that at all. thanks!
Very cool idea. Wish they had a Z-wave one
Can’t get the e-hub to work with Somfy RF Shades, I think it may be proprietary. Does the basics on my 2017 LG TV but not the part i wanted ie: changing inputs through Alexa
Modbus means it can be used in industrial applications (think ICS) or some interesting stuff for those of us weird enough to run modbus at home.
It's still "she that should not be named" to me, so pipe down there with your "Amazon Alexa" utterances, lol. Love your work Paul Hibbert. Hilarious and informative as always. 👍
Thanks dude! I started naming her when I realised she ignores me whenever I say "Amazon Alexa". She is a shameful creature though and probably still should not be named 😂
I won't ever have her in the house.
N I'm over here with the hey boo boo😂😢😅
After reading some articles about how many young women named Alexa were starting to hate/change their names, because of Amazon ruining it, and lots of young men being jerks, issuing sexually harassing "commands" to them, etc., I change my wake word to "computer", like the Star Trek shows that inspired Alexa in the first place.
For the most part, it works really well, and I can now say Alexa with impunity. The only problem I've really noticed is when I'm watching actual Star Trek, and they are talking to their ship. Thankfully, mine does not know how to engage defensive systems, or ready to warp core, so it's usually pretty benign, and funny. 😂
@@DonoVideoProductionswhy not?
16 pounds! That is incredible. I've got the Aqara FP2 and it's a costly little beast. It does do zones, so I can check occupancy of particular chairs in the room rather than just occupancy in general, but at 16 pounds, I could see getting a few of these.
Aside: I'm somewhat embarrassed that I actually understood every word in the word soup the "Actual Home Assistant User" said. That does not, however, mean that I'd have no problem doing all that just to get my little radar box working.
IR Blaster with temp and humidity sensor: With both of those sensors, this is great for controlling those air conditioner units that have IR remotes. Then you add in radar presence sensing and this is a phenomenal device in a very small package.
I do like the fact that they also have a separate temp/humidity sensor as it allows you to place a few of these around areas where the temperature and humidity are good to know. (The bathroom, the enclosed porch, etc.)
"Just use the Link n Link app to set it up..." Agreed, it's a bit less annoying to not have to use the app once it's set up, but I do wish they'd done something so it was just discoverable by Google Home or something.
It is good that these devices can be plugged in. The only problem with using "any USB port" is that you do have to go out and get a wall wart to power them. They're cheap, but it's still one more thing to do.
433 MHz (on the blaster): This is also great. I have some Sonoff 433 MHz controlled devices (fan/light controls mostly) and I could use this as another way to set those without the remote or Home Assistant dashboard.
"I can't wait to see more from this company." Agreed.
Thanks again for a great review of some really compelling products. I'll be checking those links out.
Great video as always with even more humor it seemed. Although I won't use an Amazon device in my home until I can block their access to my property, this looks like it might be worth a try.
In all honesty though, Aqara gets to be the primary component provider for me. Lighting will probably be GoVee. Non-internet-based automation and security systems are what I need since internet is sketchy during extreme weather around 8-10 times per year. Happy Saturday to you too.
Same here.
I appreciated the sarcasm around ModBus. Which flavor ModBus are they using?
Sounds good, but for me Home Assistant integration is a must. Perhaps a follow-up video? (I never head of Modbus). Can it be linked with Smart Life or some such app ?
Yeah, over got a few ZigBee mmWave sensors that are crazy actuate for presence sensing, and they don't need any cloud crap.... Home Assistant!!!
Great video as usual, Paul. Always give me a smile after a day of dealing with the public at work. I'd love to set you free on some of them...
Anyway, was looking to buy but the promo code is refusing to work for me. Too many folk used it already, maybe? What a powerful tool you are.
Sales tool! Sales tool! Not...
I purchased two of the hubs, but I find they are slow to report occupancy. Paul did you find this? I have set them up near the kids bed rooms to turn on hall lights and most of the time it misses the trigger due them not seeing anyone (adults or children)
Is discount code only for UK/US? Any chance of one for Aus? Does it just connect via Wifi?
Happy Saturday Paul, thanks.
Happy Saturday Ron!
always fun and good information. thank you
Hi Paul, I've bought one of the ehub units and a number of the motion ones. In my testing, I have found that the motion/radar ones detects motion when there is no way it could have. Since you have had these for awhile, have you also seen this?
i previously bought the switchbot temperature meters you reviewed in the past and love them, they also work with alexa and you can ask for the temperature with those. So don't really need the linknlink's for temperature, but I am going to get these for the motion sensors as I previously Bought the Shelly motion you reviewed, but it turned out you couldnt do anything smart with the motion sensor so couldnt use it for anything.
My only concern is using them for any automation will probably fail if you don't move much (such as watching tv on the sofa), or sleeping. it would be nice to be able to detect if no one's home and turn on a security camera and turn off any lights left on etc, but we'll see.
Edit: as expected these motion sensors don't detect motion when you're not moving much such as sitting on the sofa watching tv, or sleeping in bed, so it's not great for enabling an alarm system etc.
You do have the option to set routine time periods. So you can perform an alexa action when no motion for 30 minutes etc. But even at 30 minutes it fires as no motion if we're just watching tv or sleeping. I think the only real option is the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 but recent reviews state that is extremely buggy and unreliable, unfortunately.
For the price it's well worth buying one and then experiment.
These are now back in stock, and Paul’s discount is still working!!
Love the videos Paul have been a long time sub but can you do more of these affordable tech videos cheers
There are so few affordable technology products that I can only really do them now and then. I’ll try though dude!
Great video, shame none are available on Amazon UK
Update! eMotion is back in stock, and Paul's code is still active. Thanks for your support!
How accurate out of the box is it for temperature? I am sick of the others they are great a data gathering but shit at temperature reading
I picked up the bridge, the others are unavailable. Could you do a video on the broadlink intergration?
Sometimes I giggle so much at these videos I forget entirely what you've reviewed. I now have to watch it again.
A gambit I have been running for some time! 🤣 Thanks man!!
I have the same issue
Please test also Homey, I would like your opinion about that.
How easy is it to add to homeassistant? I dont see an integration listed. Is it addable through HACs? Do I have to add it to my google to get it into homeassistant?
Another fun and factual video Paul, thanks. The hub looks like it’s worth a try, unfortunately the discount code doesn’t seem to work😢
would love to see homebridge support for these devices
Excellent video as always. I suppose the only bit missing is ambient light based routines on the e-motion as I would only want the lights to come on if the ambient light wasn’t enough. Can it do this are you aware?
You could add a condition to the Alexa routine to only run between certain hours, but that's as clever as it gets for now. If you were using the linknlink ecosystem then that has more conditions for routines than Alexa does. If you can brave the modbus thing it's all pretty open and then obviously home assistant could then use conditions
You introduced me to the Smart Home around 10yrs ago with the Broadlink RM. The video showed how to copy a Remote Controlled Plug into the RM (storing it as a lamp). These were much cheaper than Smart Plugs at the time. 5 plugs controlled but a 10 button remote. I have tried many other brands of IR/RF Controller but none will copy these remote codes. Will this Linknlink?
Awesome. Buying!
Good video as ever!
Will the motion sensor work with Hubitat?
Yes, with modbus, don’t ask me how to set that up though! 😂
Interresting product, i would like to know the range with this 5.8ghz mmwave sensor and how well it does 360°
Also its probably an esp so esphome ?
These are so good, sadly can't get in Aust
Looks promising. I've been in touch with linknlink and they said this can work through wood or plastic. Could you test to see how it would work hidden in a kitchen unit. I was thinking to mount it on the inside of the door as I have a power supply there and it would keep it hidden. Got to keep the missus happy!!
Spotted Siri when you were selecting Alexa during set-up, is it Apple friendly then? Great vid as always!!
Pau, not sure if you got 'a good one' and I got the one's made at end of shift on Friday before a holiday or what, but the two emotion sensors that I bought from Amazon were trash. Horribly laggy, tons of false alarms, and not reading my presence when I'm literally 1 foot from them. Back to Amazon they go.
is there a source on how to make that thing work wit home assistant? actually google didn't dig up anything...
Modbus is a commercial grade automation language commonly used in manufacturing and BAS
As a valve (vacuum tube) orientated Luddite who has no interest whatsoever in home automation, 'Smart' devices, Alexa (I refuse to talk to technology), etc, I find your videos entertaining, very witty and informative. I must have saved quite a few bob not installing any of that stuff. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
😂
Is there any talk in regards to adding HomeKit capability?
So I hadn’t even finished the video, and went and ordered 2 emotions, so quickly as I figured they would sell out, I forgot to use the discount code! I just tried to go and order 2 more using the code and they are “Currently Unavailable”!! I think I understood correctly that they don’t need a hub, right? Cheers Paul, great video as always .
What dehumifier do you have? I have been looking for something to work with smart home devices using broadlink or this device but haven't found anything. Thanks
I think it’s a proscenic from a few years ago (it’s in the loft at the minute as I haven’t yet had a chance to test it. The clip of me setting it up was just an example, I haven’t tried it out yet
Convinced, I will buy it.
"Bespoke configuration .yaml files!" 🤣 I lost it.
Looks great but out of stock in the US and UK Amazon doesn't have them.
Good morning Paul! Hope your well. I have a question. Can you do a review of the Ezviz C6N? Thanks. Happy Saturday as usual!
I have an EZVIZ collaboration coming up, keep your eyes peeled!
Matrix bit was cool 😂
So they are unavailable on Amazon US. Thanks a lot Paul you created a shortage.
looks good
Bossman, I plan to buy two big Echo 4th Gen and one Amazon Echo Sub. Could you please help me with the reviews and how it will sound? Thanks 👍👊
Would love to purchase Paul, but the links state they are no longer available :(
We're working diligently to address this issue, and we're aiming to have them back in stock within the next 3-4 weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Looks really useful. Their website suggests not putting it near other devices to not interfere with the signal, but the rooms I'd want to use it in don't really give me this option. Does anyone have any experience of how much this will hinder the performance?
Great video! I’m assuming they work off of the wifi? Not zigbee or zwave? You may have mentioned it in the video and I missed it.
Yes, they’re WiFi 😊
I didnt expect the emotional damage meme there.. You got me lol.
Thanks for the weekly laughs..
Yay! Thanks dude!
You had me at Steven He! LOL
You know what.. it finally happened.. I Laughed at a Paul Hibbert joke. I feel dirty now.
Does it integrate with home assistant?
@paulhibbert do you know how often this device looks for movement. Mine appears to stay in person detected mode for ages.
It will stay in that mode for as long as you are near it because it’s a radar rather than a PIR sensor. When you leave the room it should switch to person not detected
Thanks as ever Paul.
Does your history file work? Mine is messed up, recording events into the future (as if the timezone is wrong).
Leaving this post here. Excellent customer service. Answer in a few hours. Cache cleared and this set the time correctly😊
Would this work in a two story hallway or would you need two sensors for that?
Shame the triggering is crippled. If only that worked, I would buy the all singing "hub" version. Great that you reveal the "warts and all" details in your reviews. Will try to keep an eye out for those missing triggers being recognised. Hopefully you will give an updated review at some stage.
Paul, you get me all excited, but then I find out it's unavailable from Amazon. Such a tease.
I have never been this early to a video before in my life! Awesome work Paul
Thanks dude! Happy Saturday!
@@paulhibbert A couple of months in, how are you finding this? How do walls factor into the sensor? If I go into the room next to the one this is in, will it trigger the device?
I would be interested in seeing how their Home Assistant integration works to warrant adding the logo to the listings/website. It can't seriously be via modbus, it is far too technical and you would need to know exactly how they store and use their data within the modbus 'registers'; which could ONLY be achieved by them publishing it somewhere.
MODBUS details are in their app once you install it, HA setup has been a pain so far!
the broadlink integration works with the ehub
Thanks Kerri, for clarity if anyone is thinking of buying on this basis, it is only infrared and Rf that the broad link integration will be able to control, it can’t for example react to motion,
yes that is true have it turning on my projector no issues with the learn and send services, i am trying to work out the modbus connection but can not seem to get readings from it for presence detection. The temp and humidity do show up in the broadlink integration though. @@paulhibbert
have you managed to get a reading from the Modbus? its alluded me so far@@BenBlincoe
I have been using the RM4 Pro for many years, I've now bought this linknlink blaster and a presence sensor, my question is, does this linknlink blaster need line of sight to operate the Aircon?
My Broadlink one did need line of sight. I'm in the process of moving into a brand new house and I am going all out to automate everything, curtains and blinds as well, and soon, the Govee TV backlight and camera. Love your work.....and the humour lol
Infrared (IR) is a line-of-sight usage (think about things like tv remotes)
@@wasper17 Actually, it often bounces off walls and objects pretty well. Apparently, the link budget is pretty generous in some cases (that is, only a very tiny portion of the transmitted IR needs to hit some receivers in order to control them).
Also penetrates many plastics; I had 8 IR controlled rope lights, and to control each separately I not only had to use a paper roll between the IR transmitter and the particular controller, I wound up having to paint all the controllers with an opaque black, because the IR signal was entering one case from the front (other end of the tube), and diffusing through two plastic box wall into the adjacent controllers.
I'm legit surprised these use modbus. I use modbus with industrial controllers. As far as I know we're the only people who still use modbus. I use it in my personal projects because of familiarity and how easy it getting data back and forth between stuff (because I'm familiar with it) but to see it in an automation environment is just weird 🤣
I live near Lincoln, so ity could be a Lincoln LinknLink!!!
Just seen the subtle promotion of your book on Automate Your Life 😂 Discount code not working in UK😢
If u are using Homeassistent with a ZigBee Stick just get a Tuya MM Wave Sensor for 14$ its plug and play.
Nice! Thanks for the tip!
Happy Sunday Paul, the bloody things are out of stock
Looking for a motion sensor that will connect to Alexa and be used to turn on the light with motion in the dark. Currently using Philips hue bulb & Alexa
Great review. Anyone know where else to buy it? Amazon quickly out of stock with sign of dates. Thanks
Update! eMotion is back in stock, and Paul's code is still active. Thanks for your support!
The Amazon listing (motion detector) states the power source is AC/DC, I was Thunderstruck by this.
A modbus was a seaside transport system for Fred Perry and Ben Sherman-wearing youth in the 60's.
“I don’t know that…”
That logo though. You didn't comment on it? Yeah, THAT one.
ModBus is a historic control bus protocol.
