Then I built group scripts, that call the device specific scripts. The scripts take in a message parameter. They also contain device specific mute conditions. Is it possible to substitute a helper value into the message of the notify? I would like the message to include a numeric value from a helper. e,g. "The temperature is now set to " input_number.temperature_setting.
Thanks for the video. I have one quesiton. Is it possible to reproduce mp3 located in local media or dlna server of home assistant through alexa echo? In other words, i want to be able to choose what alexa echo is going to play the local music in home assistant that i am listening in my pc for instance.
I did a video on how to play custom MP3s. But if its a set track etc I would reccomend checking out something like MyPod or other bits of software. This will allow you to host files on your PC and have Alexa play them. You can then use HA to trigger the track etc via a script or automation. Theres currently not a super clean way to do it :S (That im aware of anyway)
Thx a lot mate, Great content and guide. Would like to see more in deep Mini Media Player configurations, for more than one speaker, integration with spotify, etz, .... in a future video. Till then, ... good job and thx.
I have a few more Alexa videos in the works :) There is a Part 2 of this one (covering the bits I mentioned plus a couple you just mentioned) Alexa Actionable Notifications And a new video dropping today on playing your own custom mp3s I will get round to them :D
Thank you for this amazing video/tutorial ! Really helped me ...I confess that I was struggling to make my Avexas talk via HA :-) ahggg that type: tts part ....Thank you ! Yes I really would like to see that video that you promised with more automations and echos :-) Greetings from Portugal !
@@kingkuntaSWM no worries 👌🏻. I don’t think you can change any of Amazons functionality. But if you are heading to the echo to press buttons anyway, you could use a wireless scene remote? Or buttons? :)

Hello, how do you adjust a set volume on the echo device when you using the call service/codes? You example only show send the text to speech. How do you turn up the set volume also because some of my echo setting volume is too low to hear?

Is there a way to link the shopping lists between home assistant and the Alexa app so you can use Alexa to add stuff to the shopping list on home assistant
Thanks for excellent video. However I do have a question. How do you play mp3 on multiple echo? I have already created a group everywhere in Alexa app. media_player.everywhere does not work
hey. my alexa media player was running some weeks without problems. but some days ago it stopped and asked for a new configuration. now i have problems enter a valid url. the normal url (http-ip) doesnt work (nothing there because of of duckdns and https. but the duckdns-url and the normal-ip with https didnt work ether. maybe you have some tipps because you run duckdns and media player ?
Mark just a quick one Your Kitchen Group is that done in Home assistant , how did you create a group please , I have 4 Alexa Echo`s was hoping to group them so I can send TTS to all t one please
Hi, Is it possible to have interaction with Alexa using Home assistant , for example , trigger via home assistant if temprature in my room is >25 degree then Alexa will ask via echo saying temp is high in your room , so you want to start the fan ? Si here if I say yes it should trigger to start a devise if I say no it exit.
Great video! I'm trying to use Alexa more through HA but stumbles a bit. When my home is empty I want all wake up alarms in Alexa to be stopped before they go off in a empty house. I cna't find a command to send and how to send it. Can you point me in the right direction?
You can get Alexa to do that by just enabling amazon in the HA cloud section. This integration allows you to control various aspects of the echos media player and more.
Thanks for the feedback :) I would say yes :) Sometimes there is a small delay, and others it appears to be instant. It’s never been long enough for me to question or worry about it.
What a wonderful video. I wish I had had access to it longer ago. I did all the steps and my Echos were available on devices but I can't use them because they appear unavailable. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
Hi Mark, I picked a sound for alexa in her library, but that sound is too low. How can I increase the level of this sound? I'm using the notify option with TTS. Thanks
Thank you, good tutorial. I am used to the voice command example -"alexa play fuji radio". Is there a way to put that in the yaml ?...so i can have it in the automation sequence?
Thank you :) do you mean to have the echo run the routine “play fuji radio” ? :) If so then yes. You can have the echo call a service, or if you have a routine in your alexa app you can just get HA to call that.
@@MarkWattTech i have tried the routine, in the alexa app and that pused the radio play at the end of other action. example if i want to turn on the radio and then turn on a fan...it pushed the radio acion after the device automation. Thank you for the article - Is there a way to integrate without the risk of disclosing all your Amazon Credentials? I definitely would like to get this working,
Unfortunately to get the TTS and media player Access you need to use your credentials. You can use the App Auth method so that you don’t need to submit 2FA codes and they will generate themselves. But you still initially need to login with your credentials.
I keep getting a 500 internal server error on this. I've rolled it back to older versions and continue to get the same error. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thank you Lewis! for the information, Great video! well done i have some media issues and CCTV that i don't know they don't work for me is it possible to get you to have look at for me please much appreciated
Hi , tried to set up the card for mini media player and it keeps saying custom element does not exist: mini media player. any ideas would be great thankyou
This is great! Do you know if it's possible to have the tts function work with Alexa on the phone? Trying to set up a fun automation for when my Tesla leaves my house and if my phone is automatically connected to bluetooth , a custom voice message can be heard from my car speakers
I don’t think you can target the alexa app with iOS (not sure about android). Some devices that run tvs work though (other speakers, tvs etc). Another option would be to use custom Sound Notifications. This would let you play pre written phrases (works on iOS) I recently did a video on this.
@@K3yBon It doesn’t work on the Echo Auto :( At least not yet anyway. The echo auto can still be useful though. Using it to run automations when your outside in the car, or approaching home etc.
Mark I have one doubt that I already search in your Facebook and here but could not figure out an answer.... How can I set the sound to a certain volume on a. certain sound or text / message ?
super helpful, thank you very much! Nicely explained and I really like the speed. Don't wasting any time, getting right to the point. Amazing tutorial.
Hello mark, I’m struggling. I’ve got as far as the configuration page with Amazon login details. I notice your url ending with :8123 is for your local but mine is pre-filled with nabu casa external link. When I submit I get 500 internal server error. I tried typing the IP address for my local HA pi and I get the same error. Am I being really thick? Probably yes!
Hi Mark thanks for the video! I was using the Alexa integration that you mentioned on the video before and it was working fine. After installing duckdns I'm not able to get it running again. I'll get an Url error on the configuration process. Also, Im using Alexa Skill and I have my HA devices on Alexa now. Im not sure if this would do the same or is the other way around. Please any help would be appreciated
No worries. Thanks for checking in. I had to disable duck dns and go back to my local IP. Then I installed the Alexa integration and I when back to duckdns again. Everything is running smoothly now!!
Mark, I have added the Alexa Media Player to Lovelace using the mini media player card. It is not showing what is currently playing when I have Alexa playing music. Is there a setting I need to add for this? If not, any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thanks, Mike
Hey Mike. Do you have the line "artwork: full-cover" In your media player card yaml? There is a code snippet in the description which may help (if you didn't allready try it).
Its not working. :( I installed Alexa Media Player, setting up 2SV, which was successfull, i see that the App is enrolled in amazon. After this step the app is opening locally to login to amazon (like in your video about 3:55), typed in the keys succssfully (login and pass is ok) but when i hit Sign-in, after a few seconds it throws me an "500 Internal Server Error". Tried in Edge, Chrome, Opera, same results. Possible that the app does not work anymore with Amazon?
Thanks for the really helpful video. One thing: some of my Echos are not showing the 'Local Speaker' and won't accept tts. My Echo Dots and Echo Plus are fine, but my Echo Show and Fire Tablet are not. Thanks for any help.
@@MarkWattTech Thanks for the reply. No. Those 2 devices don't wotk using the Dev tools or the mini media player card. The Echo Show is working in an automation, but that is calling the notify service.
I did exactly as the video said but when I go to use the mini media player it reports that all of the devices are "unavailable". Tried restarting HA, same. Tried deleting and reading, same. Any ideas on what I am going wrong?
After I installed the alexa media player integration and restart the HA, I didn't see it listed as Integration under configuration. Do you have any idea?
Hello, my name is hawana...I followed the instructions thru installation and I can see Alexa Media Player in the HACS list of configuration. However, after restarting Home Assistant, going to the Configuration tab and hitting + button, Alexa does not appear in that list...Can you shed some light on the problem I'm seeing ? (PS: HACS version 1.15.2, and Alexa Media Player version v3.10.10)...Your guidance is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Hi Mark, great vid for a HA newbie like me. Worked fine, Alexa has been integrated and Mini Media player has been installed. But with the card, I can only send TTS to my Alexas. The Mini Media Player card does not show any music or Album covers etc that is played on any of my Alexas. In your vid, this was not quite clear how to get this done. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Heya :) If you open the card in the editor you should see an option for 'artwork', In my setup I have this set as full-cover which presents your album art.
Thank you a lot for that setup. I made itr how discribed and it worked. I only had to add under Settings - Dashboard-Ressources the JavaScript-Modul /local/mini-media-player-bundle.js?v=1.16.5. My question now is, how is it possible to stream mp3 or other media i have stored on home assistant. For example I want to wake up with a special song (mp3), how can I do that? The automation part is clear, but I don't know what to write as media content type / id
Hi Mark, do you know how to repeat an action on a script? I was able to trigger the amazon alarm sound when a sensor is triggered but needs it to be active until I disarmed the alarm.
@@MarkWattTech I tried but didn't worked. Seems that is something known with alexa. Per other videos seems that it works with google. I ordered a wifi siren (chime) to see how it works. Thanks.!
Do you have an idea on how to loop between led strip colors with a script? It's a tuya led strip but when I add it to home assistant , the effects are gone. :(
@@charlesromney i think the lighting effects for the tuya leds are tuya specific. One way of doing it is by creating a tuya scene (e.g light effect 1). HA then pulls they tuya scene in and is able to call light effect 1 (triggering your desired effect). You can then just call the light effect 1 scene from with your script. You can call it and then use a wait or another method to check if disarm has been activated. Hope that makes sense? Cheers. Edit: HA should automatically pick up the tuya scene you create. If not there is a service you can call to force update your Tuya stuff :)
Im still looking for solution to send customised text command to alexa devixe like in routine in alexa app. For example "alexa, what weather will be tomorrow". That will make all most important things. Is it possible?
Heya. Groups are still fiddly but there is an example of groups in the Alexa documentation. If you aren't borthed about them being in sync you could also just sent a notification to each speaker individually. I will be covering groups in a future video. I recently just rebooted this series.
@@MarkWattTech Hi, thank you for your reply! In the past I tried using Alexa native groups, but simply doesn't works at all. Yes sending a notification to each echo causes... echo :-)
Hi Mark, I managed to get this working once on my two echos with the mini media player but then it stopped almost immediately. I tried removing the whole install and trying again but to no avail. If I change the volume it works fine i.e. the volume on the device changes and I hear the small "boop" that notifies you but TTS will not work now. Any ideas?
Hi Jonathan, I have 3 echos and only the first one is workin, the other 2 are having the exact same thing with yours. I did the same as you, but still not working, did you find a solution to that?

Hi, I set up Alexa Media player the other day but I am now locked out of my amazon account because I can't get the OTP. Is there any way to find the auth secret through the config or something? Or to get home assistant to generate the code for me so I can login? Thanks, Harry
do you think if this method is deprecated? After I insert my 2FA code.. it loads loads and nothing happens.. It used to work before..but recently I got a message error, saying the login failed. Now when I try to re-add, to do all the steps again..Im not able do login... don't know what to do.
@@MarkWattTech I still have the problem. Tried to reinstall other versions (the current is 3.10.10), removed the 2FA, tried with other amazon accounts, and nothing happens... When I remove the 2fa code from my account, HA directs me to a webpage, I reinsert the login and password, the captcha, and then returns to HA with a message: "Loading next step for Alexa Media Player" .. this message loads forever and nothing else happens.. When My amazon account has 2FA enabled, I do the same process, but I don't see any captcha, the same message shows up, loads forever as well.. unofficial stuff are never easy :(
I have create an automation in home assistant. When I create routine on the Alexa App, I am not able to see the home assistant automation but I can only see the home assistant scripts? Why and how do I expose the automation to the Alexa routine?
Alexa routines can only see HA scripts (which appear as scenes). You would need to either call your HA automation in a HA script and expose that, or re write your automation as a script.

Is it possible to substitute a helper value into the message of the notify? I would like the message to include a numeric value from a helper. e,g. "The temperature is now set to " input_number.temperature_setting.
You can yes :)
Very nicely done.
I had to remove "tts' in data otherwise it would not work.
Thx a lot mate,
Great content and guide.
Would like to see more in deep Mini Media Player configurations, for more than one speaker, integration with spotify, etz, .... in a future video.
Till then, ... good job and thx.
I have a few more Alexa videos in the works :)
There is a Part 2 of this one (covering the bits I mentioned plus a couple you just mentioned)
Alexa Actionable Notifications
And a new video dropping today on playing your own custom mp3s
I will get round to them :D
You are the best! You have a new fan here!
Thank you 🙏🏻 😄
Hi, can I use my android phone as Eco Dot? I have tried but I can not use text to speech... nothing heard
Can I use alexa media player to show unifi camera motion detected?
Can you change the function of the buttons on the actual echo dot via home assistant?
As in what happens when you use the top buttons?
@@MarkWattTech As in using the volume up button to switch on/off smart light. Thanks for your response btw.
@@kingkuntaSWM no worries 👌🏻.
I don’t think you can change any of Amazons functionality.
But if you are heading to the echo to press buttons anyway, you could use a wireless scene remote? Or buttons? :)
@@MarkWattTech I saw a random picture of a flush wall mounted echo Dot and thought, "that would be a really looking light switch." Lol just wondering. They are cheaper than actual smart switches and they do 10x more.
Congratulations for the video! I´m from Brazil, I followed all your Alexa steps and it worked very well! Thanks! Do you know if have any integrations to ir remote controller - of tuya? If have, could you teach in a video too?
Thanks Marcelo. I currently don't have any tuya IR devices to play around with or test, so not sure on that one sorry.
Hello, how do you adjust a set volume on the echo device when you using the call service/codes? You example only show send the text to speech. How do you turn up the set volume also because some of my echo setting volume is too low to hear?
Heya. You will find a bunch of different examples in the documentation at : github.com/custom-components/alexa_media_player/wiki#setting-the-volume-for-the-last-called-device-at-a-certain-level
Is there a way to link the shopping lists between home assistant and the Alexa app so you can use Alexa to add stuff to the shopping list on home assistant
I don’t think there currently is a super simple easy way. Not one that i’ve seen anyway. But it’s something I would also love!
Thanks for excellent video. However I do have a question. How do you play mp3 on multiple echo? I have already created a group everywhere in Alexa app. media_player.everywhere does not work
Hi Mark, I can't see any Alexa integration in Configuration (2:34 min vid). Can you help me please. Thanks
Hey Sebastion. Try and clear your browser cache if its not appearing in the list.
hey. my alexa media player was running some weeks without problems. but some days ago it stopped and asked for a new configuration. now i have problems enter a valid url. the normal url (http-ip) doesnt work (nothing there because of of duckdns and https. but the duckdns-url and the normal-ip with https didnt work ether. maybe you have some tipps because you run duckdns and media player ?
Great Video. Exactly what I was looking for to dip my toe into Alexa and HA integration.
Mark just a quick one Your Kitchen Group is that done in Home assistant , how did you create a group please , I have 4 Alexa Echo`s was hoping to group them so I can send TTS to all t one please
Hi,
Is it possible to have interaction with Alexa using Home assistant , for example , trigger via home assistant if temprature in my room is >25 degree then Alexa will ask via echo saying temp is high in your room , so you want to start the fan ? Si here if I say yes it should trigger to start a devise if I say no it exit.
I did a tutorial on this. The thing you are after is called "Actionable Notifications".
I will be creating a new tutorial on this in the future.
Great video! I'm trying to use Alexa more through HA but stumbles a bit. When my home is empty I want all wake up alarms in Alexa to be stopped before they go off in a empty house. I cna't find a command to send and how to send it. Can you point me in the right direction?
Mark, with this integration, if you speak to Alexa, saying to turn on a bulb that you have on HA, it will turn it on ?
You can get Alexa to do that by just enabling amazon in the HA cloud section. This integration allows you to control various aspects of the echos media player and more.
Please, keep going !! (regards from Italy)
Finally I got what I needed for my smart home, thanks to You !
Awesome thanks Jacopo. Plenty more to come :D
thank you so much, really clear and helpful! A question: is it normal that alexa starts speaking after at least 3 seconds?
Thanks for the feedback :)
I would say yes :)
Sometimes there is a small delay, and others it appears to be instant.
If so then yes.
SO i am tryign to find a way to automate the sequence in HASS automation...but no idea how to trigger the voice command to play a radio station.
For some reasons am unable to get the tts to works, more to that my echo dot always shows either unavailable or on standby
Heya. Sound like it’s not seeing the resources. This is ofter a browser cache issue. Try clearing your cache and it should be there :)
@@MarkWattTech That was it for me. Closing browser and reopening allowed it to be seen correctly. Thank you Mark!
In ha, can i Send a command to Alexa to execute a skill (by exemple a radio in Tuneln radio) ????? thanks
@@MarkWattTech do you know if it works on android? i'm actually watching your push notification sounds now haha
@@MarkWattTech What about using the Echo Auto? There's a sale on Prime Day and I'm debating on grabbing it
@@K3yBon It doesn’t work on the Echo Auto :(
At least not yet anyway.
Thank you for the feedback :)
Sorry for the delay. Have you managed to resolve your issue now?
No worries. Thanks for checking in. I had to disable duck dns and go back to my local IP. Then I installed the Alexa integration and I when back to duckdns again. Everything is running smoothly now!!
@@WebHorizonPro glad you got it sorted in the end 😁👍🏻
Mark, I have added the Alexa Media Player to Lovelace using the mini media player card. It is not showing what is currently playing when I have Alexa playing music. Is there a setting I need to add for this? If not, any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Thanks,
Mike
Hey Mike.
Do you have the line "artwork: full-cover"
In your media player card yaml? There is a code snippet in the description which may help (if you didn't allready try it).
Working on the TTS. It works for all the Ecos, but not for the everywhere one. Is this right?
This specific TTS is echo devices only (if thats what you mean). Also fire tablets and tvs work too
Its not working.
Dude, this is an amazing tut, please carry on with the future vidz you have planned. Fantastic work
Thanks for the feedback Jason! Really appreciate it :D
I know it's pretty randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
@Alexis Jorge I use Flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
@Brodie Gus Yup, have been using flixzone for months myself :)
@Brodie Gus thanks, signed up and it seems like a nice service :) I really appreciate it!!
Thanks for the really helpful video.
One thing: some of my Echos are not showing the 'Local Speaker' and won't accept tts. My Echo Dots and Echo Plus are fine, but my Echo Show and Fire Tablet are not.
Thanks for any help.
Hey Marc. Is TTS working for those devices if you manually target them with Dev tools ?
@@MarkWattTech Thanks for the reply. No. Those 2 devices don't wotk using the Dev tools or the mini media player card. The Echo Show is working in an automation, but that is calling the notify service.
@@MarkWattTech Yes, using the notification service.
I did exactly as the video said but when I go to use the mini media player it reports that all of the devices are "unavailable". Tried restarting HA, same. Tried deleting and reading, same. Any ideas on what I am going wrong?
Hey Paul.
Did you have any luck with this?
Try clearing your browser cache and check your logs for any errors.
Hi. I have bought another speaker. How do i add it?
After I installed the alexa media player integration and restart the HA, I didn't see it listed as Integration under configuration. Do you have any idea?
So you added it via HACS, and then rebooted? :)
Try refresh your browser cache either manually clear it or do Ctrl + F5
Cheers
@@MarkWattTech Yes, it works now. Thanks.
Thanks for the helpful Video! Wow, you own an La marzocco :-) Nice!!
Heya :)
If you open the card in the editor you should see an option for 'artwork', In my setup I have this set as full-cover which presents your album art.
Nice video, waiting for the next one!
Thanks Jose! :D
Hey Charles. Sorry for the delay. Did you manage to sort this? You could have the script just loop until your disarm is triggered.
@@MarkWattTech Ok, I will try that ! 👍🏼 Thanks again Mark.
Im still looking for solution to send customised text command to alexa devixe like in routine in alexa app. For example "alexa, what weather will be tomorrow". That will make all most important things. Is it possible?
For customised text i manually write the text in an Alexa routine and have that routine call a HA script to return data etc.
Hi, how can I do to send a notification to a pair of alexa speakers? Thank you
@@MrBlacknass I had to unplug all echos from power and plug them back in again to get it working, seems they just got into a hiccup when I was testing them and rebooting and then adding back to ha worked... So far. I haven't continued into automations yet though which is my end goal to have my echos ring as the chimes when my unifi G4 doorbell is rung.
Liked you're videos all the times:D Can u please make a video with "Alexa Acctionable Notification" ? Thx
I will be doing the actionable notifications soon 😁👍🏻
Hi, I set up Alexa Media player the other day but I am now locked out of my amazon account because I can't get the OTP. Is there any way to find the auth secret through the config or something? Or to get home assistant to generate the code for me so I can login?
Thanks,
Harry
My Echo's status seems to go offline when Echo's go into Standby mode. Anyway to fix this?
do you think if this method is deprecated? After I insert my 2FA code.. it loads loads and nothing happens.. It used to work before..but recently I got a message error, saying the login failed. Now when I try to re-add, to do all the steps again..Im not able do login... don't know what to do.
Heya. Did you manage to resolve this? It's deffo still working as I have used the same process on other builds recently.
@@MarkWattTech I still have the problem. Tried to reinstall other versions (the current is 3.10.10), removed the 2FA, tried with other amazon accounts, and nothing happens...
When I remove the 2fa code from my account, HA directs me to a webpage, I reinsert the login and password, the captcha, and then returns to HA with a message:
"Loading next step for Alexa Media Player" .. this message loads forever and nothing else happens.. When My amazon account has 2FA enabled, I do the same process, but I don't see any captcha, the same message shows up, loads forever as well.. unofficial stuff are never easy :(
Is there a way to announce current time?
You could get the current time and use it in a template and have that read out. You can probably find a quick snippet on the HA forum :)
I have create an automation in home assistant. When I create routine on the Alexa App, I am not able to see the home assistant automation but I can only see the home assistant scripts? Why and how do I expose the automation to the Alexa routine?
Alexa routines can only see HA scripts (which appear as scenes). You would need to either call your HA automation in a HA script and expose that, or re write your automation as a script.
apparently the mini tts has been removed, and you have to use the mediaplayer.
how are we to redirect to the alexa's
How quickly does Alexa answer or execute scripts? Getting sick of Google assistant compared to local HomeKit. It takes like 5 seconds to respond
