Notice how a lot of those characters on that 40 character list are pretty safe or standard speculation characters like Shantae or Waddle Dee. None of these leaks are that legit. Most of the times it's just luck.
I like how he never uses actual Reimu art because he's intimidated by ZUN's masterful drawing skill.

Steve we lost sight of after banjo happened but he was speculated for smash a lot before he happened. byleth/minmin/sephiroth have all been total surprises tho! (well sephiroth was also discussed before hero happned and we kinda lost sight of sephiroth too).

I REFUSE to think Yuri and Lloyid can share a character slot
They are Absolutely Nothing alike in gameplay or animations, Lloyd is a Duel wielder while Yuri wilds only one sword while mixing in punches and kicks into his battle style
So it's utterly impossible for them to be alts, one is in as a fighter, the other gets a mii fighter costume, or there's a chance that neither could make it and the Lloyd costume will just return

@Geetamer persona 3 4 and 5 all have identical protagonists. they are just player characters. give makoto orpheus, give yu izanagi, and youre good. the only difference is that joker wields a gun, but who cares they are just alts anyway. good example of this is bowser jr and his skins he has.

It really surprised me just how fast Sephiroth was being released after his reveal at TGA considering Joker released like 5 months after when he was revealed, and now it makes sense as to why. I thought that tweet was just a slip up but now with all of this I’m totally convinced that’s what happened.

To be fair to LaxChris he hasn't done that in over a year and has moved on to other stuff.

I agree a lot with that japanese leak. Putting geno in smash in a company perspective wouldn't bring any marketing for a new game since the character is not planned to appear in anything and it appearing in smash is like the fans only goal.
sadly its understandable, especially if you consider geno two years ago it was entirely smash focused for him. HOWEVER its not like nintendo and square collab directly much elsewhere so where do you expect fans to want geno to return!? and of course we'd love a new mario rpg or remake haha even still i can understand square being confused by it all HOPEFULLY now that geno has had so much buzz online during this whole smash DLC thing maybe square and nintendo will wake up and give us a return of geno SOMEWHERE
@@PapaGenos yeah a mario rpg remaster/remake would be a pretty good way to start. It would be cheaper than a fully new game, and measuring the sales of that would tell square and nintendo if the character is worth putting in other things.
This alone gives me exactly the "incriminating evidence" I need to use against the whiny and toxic part of the Smash fandom. It is as I had suspected. Nintendo and Sakurai hear the fan demand for Smash, but that's all they hear - just Smash, nothing else. And this ties into why Sakurai said Isaac was... well... doomed from the start. With nothing else going for the Golden Sun franchise, it wouldn't make sense to have Isaac in just for the sake of being in Smash. Nintendo and Sakurai obviously can't just throw characters into Smash randomly just for the sake of being in Smash alone. I'm convinced that even WayForward would be hurt if they were under the impression that people just want Shantae for Smash and nothing else. No character should just be Smash fodder.
@@luansomething380 Also, similarly, Rare seemed to be aware that fans wanted Banjo-Kazooie in Smash WAY more than another game, as they have stated that they believe another Banjo-Kazooie game wouldn't sell.

The more information that comes out about these characters, the more I'm convinced that the second pass exists because of Steve. To me, it sounds like Steve was planned for the base game but something fell through or delayed the process. Sometime after the first pass was set in stone, they got the go-ahead for Steve. Realizing it would be foolish just to do him as a one-off character, they decided instead to add on an entire second pass worth of characters that "got away". We know Sakurai wanted to add Arms to the base roster, so at that point probably approached the Arms team to make that happen. Now we're hearing that they wanted to include Sephiroth AND Hero years back, but were unable to do so. With all this information in mind, I've been thinking a Xenoblade 2 rep is probably coming- most likely Rex or a Rex and Pyra duo character. And, for what it's worth, he is one of the characters on the list.

That was for base game since the priority was bringing every Smash veteran back, not everyone buys dlc.

probly just meant base game wont have a ton of newcomers as clearly they had LOTS of character ideas floating around, I even think a 2nd pass was ALWAYS in the works or at least very likely to happen so long as the sales were good on the first pass (and yes they do tell us white lies sometimes I think people should wise up to that fact by now and not completely believe everything they say, the ballot was a total trick to get ideas for ultimate clearly haha)

The Wooly world stage was removed with no crafted world replacement which could mean he comes with a crafted world stage; There is no baby luigi spirit but there is a baby peach spirit which means baby luigi could be a spirit for poochy; Nintendo seems to be pushing for the poochy pups recently for some reason, and they don't have a spirit; The yoshi series hasn't had any rep since smash 64 and adding another one would distance it from the main mario series more.

As a Reimu supporter, I feel really happy more and more people are actually acknowledging her. We have come a long way as a community
Reimu seems like she could be really fun and I hear the music would be amazing in Smash. I’ve never played a Touhou but feel free to recommend a game for me to play.
Yeah reimu is my top pick for ultimate, them doing the double announce of crash for the west and reimu for the east would be a good idea to deal with them.
As someone who's only dabbled in Touhou, I would be ecstatic to see Reimu.
@@brandonwilliams6119 Since the main games are bullet hells and those might not be everyones cup of tea, I always like to recommend Touhou Scarlet Weather Rhapsody to newcomers, since it is a Fighting Game. Even thought it is a "spin-off", it is canon in the lore of the series just like the main games, since it is numbered (10.5 in this case, meaning that the events of the game are between Touhou 10 and 11). I know it sounds kinda complicated, but Touhou plots are always kinda simple and structured in a way that it doesn't really matter that much which you play first.
Scarlet Weather Rhapsody is also a good example of how Reimu's moveset could be implemented in Ultimate, since it is a 2D fighting game, so bonus points for that lol.
But that aside, if you are interested in the Bullet Hell games, I recommend you start with Touhou 6, 7 or 8.
6 is the most popular, 7 is the ""easiest"" and 8 is my favorite xD

Honestly, all the Hero talk reminds me of how with Hero I kinda had a reverse "who?" moment because I had already known Dragon Quest was this huge RPG franchise, and then everyone was talking about how they had no idea what it was and it felt surreal. I think Dragon Quest might just be more successful in the UK or something.
Something like that happened with Terry in Latin America
I’ll admit I wasn’t too big on Hero and I wanted Sora instead but seeing Hero in action in his Reveal Trailer and the fact that it includes 4 different alts from different Eras of Dragon Quest games completely changed my mind and I became a dedicated Hero Main. I wish more lesser known unusual picks could get into Smash and turn out to be an amazing additions like my story with Hero. Characters like Lip from Panel De Pon or Arle could fit that Bill.
I think I only knew Dragon Quest because of Slime but that’s all I knew about the series

There is no JRPG fan who doesn't know dragon quest, just like there's no latino younger than 35 who doesn't know terry.

I feel like the majority of these leaks that generally sound the same are just characters that they want rather then who really is coming, I’m not ruling out the possibility of those most wanted characters coming but I feel like a lot of the time, we just anticipate who’s on our minds to come to Smash and those theories end up aging poorly. Did anybody really get Min Min right before an ARMS character was announced back in March beforehand? Steve? Sephiroth? The only true leaks that have happened as far as I know are Dark Samus through a code name leak, the Ken picture leak with PAC-MAN, Ivysaur and Pichu in it and the accidental SNK rep leak by Nintendo themselves before Terry was revealed. The truth is, nobody truly knows who’s next. It’s extremely unpredictable unless leaked by Nintendo themselves or extremely talented dataminer/hacker

yeah I dont know how it could work either, tho the lloyd mii does only use one sword, but they dont fight the same at all. Anyway smash surprises us so maybe they could somehow share a spot and still fight differently and its some new kind of duo character idea we havent considered. smash surprises me a lot so i try not to count things out.

@@choodle9729 Not really, as you'd still be picking from a list of 30 potential fighters. You may as well try to come up with 30 fighters yourself; you'll likely include the final fighter by accident too with a list that large.
If it were 10 fighters or something it would be, but the list is too large imo.

One thing about that potential list given to Sakurai, I’ve been wondering about this: could that also be the list given to Xander Mobus, the Smash announcer?
I remember him saying he was given a list of names that he has to record for the announcer. I know voice actors aren’t in the know as to which characters get in or not, but it’s just a thought I had ever since Cassandra Lee Morris (voice of Morgana and Sothis) had him on for a video recently.

grinch leak could have a lot of legal ramifications as it used an actual printing company and employee name to get credibility, whoever made that one is probably best to never prove it (tho id love to see the non-blurry smash art for the characters on that banner)

Street Fighter is more than deserving of a fully new rep and I maintain that Chun-Li or Akuma are the only appropriate options.
Min Min not being on the list of approved Smash DLC actually makes a lot of sense when you consider the fact that Min Min was chosen as the Arms rep for Smash by the creator of Arms, not Nintendo or Sakurai.

Touhou is still an indie right? If it is she has like a 5% chance to be included considering how Nintendo treats indies in their games. Same with Hollow Knight and others.

23:20 The reason Sephiroth was likely moved was probably Covid. Sakurai said it made getting approvals from other companies difficult, so it would make sense if they moved a 1st party character up to work on while they figured things out.

I think since Fighter Pass 1, there was a screw up and it slowed down a fighters release. They must of shifted around fighters alot, and are working on multiple fighters at once.

I like how the Geno confusion is down to the devs wanting the character to be known for more than just Smash, while the fans are like 'we don't know if we'll get anything ever again, so can we please use Smash as a historical museum for this character?".

Also, thank you for address the "4chan prediction" leak. There were so many people that were clinging to that one when really it felt like what you said: A really lucky guess.
Even though it was probably just taking guesses at predicting Fighter's Pass 2, let's pretend this was apparently "for real." If so, we can breakdown how this was still very sketchy.
1) If we were to breakdown the possible ARMS fighter by looking at what every character can do and dismiss the characters that probably wouldn't be going to happen (such as Spring Man who was in the game already as an assist trophy but probably could have been removed or replaced, but that's probably overthinking it), one can come to the conclusion that it was going to be either Min Min or Ninjara as they have the widest set of moves out of everyone else in the cast that could work.
2) The order the characters were posted in. Not to say it can be predictable, but whenever someone wants to predict Steve from Minecraft, they usually posted him at the very end because of how much of a long shot he was thought to be. We could say "The leaker put them out of order just to throw people off," but Steve in that lost spot always felt like a red flag that something wasn't real. And now that Steve is in Smash, anyone that tries to go back and point towards their thing to claim that they really did know something is going to come off like a confession. "If you knew Steve was coming, why put him last if he was the second character?" Either the supposed leaker would have had zero confidence it was actually going to happen, or if it was to throw people off, then that's an excuse that would be a dime a dozen.
Either way, I will say the "40 names" leak does feel more credible to me. A bit ironic to say that after saying the other one likely wasn't. Just like what was said about Chun-Li and Ken, there could have been a possibility to where a list of characters for each company was tossed out and negotiations were done to see which ones they would like to make happen. Part of me is slightly concerned if Chun-Li would be it since she kind of falls under what I call the "No Pants Conundrum" (that being if you are a lady not wearing pants, shorts, or something to cover up the legs, you're out) that was why we don't have Mai from KoF. In that same thought process, you could say this is why we probably won't get to see 2B and a slight issue of why Chun-Li would be a problem (although I'm sure there could be a workaround there or slight modifications to where any "dress issues" that would be with her could be addressed if there were any).
But in the end, I would really want to say one Bandai-Namco rep almost feels like a certainty, while Ryu from Ninja Gaiden feels possible too as that series is kind of the "last of the NES classics" alongside Castlevania and Megaman. Contra could fit in there too, but no one wants "Doofy faced Contra man" from the latest game...
Still, it will be fun to see the speculation train going forward and how March could be the time we see a new character. Crossing my fingers for a Monster Hunter Rep to make way for Rise in that same month, but we'll see if that actually happens or not. Certainly have a lot on my mind when it comes to the speculation game.
I just had a thought, which I'm pretty sure has no basis in fact, but... Echo fighters would be a great candidate for additional content that isn't part of the Fighters Passes, but is tied to cross-promotional stuff. Something like, "if you buy this other game, you can get this thing in Smash" in the same way you can get a Pikachu or Eevee in Pokémon Sw/Sh for having Let's Go. They could also be sold separately I imagine, like Mii costumes are.
Example; You buy donkey kong country tropical freeze and you get funky kong as an echo of donkey kong.

@@Bluhbear To be real frank here, echo fighters have been under utilized since the base game's release. We should of gotten more echos in the mix since they're suppose to be easy to make for the game. We should of gotten Funky kong for DK, Blood falcon or black shadow for captain falcon, raichu for pikachu, octoling for inkling, galata knight for meta knight, and more famously shadow for sonic.
The fact sakurai hyped up this newly established category only to do little with it is bothersome.
@@AutZentus I assume it's because the business side is awkward, since they only have so much development time, and they (or more likely the corporate bosses) want to work on the things that will sell well. The biggest issue I have with Lloyd at this point is Geno’s costume returning. To me that proves the smash team is willing to unceremoniously kill off speculated characters like them as returning mii costumes. It’s very similar to what happened to shadow and Isaac in the base game. Another problem I have is that I heavily doubt Lloyd will be promoted to a proper character. I’m not saying tales of itself has no chance at all. As a matter of fact, I still think it’s still on the table for DLC.
The way I see it is that someone like Yuri or Velvet will be the hypothetical tales reps with the Lloyd costume returning alongside them. Lloyd and yuri will NOT happen as simultaneous characters because Lloyd is known for wielding 2 katanas while yuri only uses 1 regular sword.
TL:DR Tales of has a 50 ish% chance of appearing with Yuri or Velvet being the reps for smash. Lloyd is likely dead and will simply have his costume return with the actual tales reps in smash assuming namco is lucky to get ANY proper representation outside pac man
yeah but if they promoted ONE mii costume and then slowly gave us back all the ones they didnt promote until just the last one was left and then they show the upgrade it could make sense honestly, for example if gil was the only costume left right now I wouldnt even consider it but lloyd and geno were top choices to get upgrades from the start (and heihachi) and lloyd is still a survivor here. could definitely just return as a mii but IF only one mii was being upgraded not showing that until all the rest were back could make sense.

What I was trying to say was that fans like to hype up their most wanteds as still having a chance only for Nintendo to put them in as mii costumes seemingly disconfirming them as proper playable characters. It’s happened with heihachi and geno now so who’s to say Lloyd will be the exception? I still think tales of can still have a character for smash, but it won’t be Lloyd since he has a mii costume that hasn’t come back yet. I wasn’t trying to come off as being ungrateful. I was just trying to make a point that speculation hype/popularity doesn’t always necessarily translate into said characters becoming actual characters in smash.

I don't think us not getting a xenosaga game anytime soon would count kos-mos out of the running yet. Kos-mos has sorta developed a reputation for being used whenever namco is doing a crossover game. (I.e. project cross zone and namco x capcom) as well as being referenced in several games, games including the tales of series.

Alright now this is a good video of good general Smash info. I personally wouldn't know who the last 3 fighters are, but alot of the info does makes sense...but who knows. I really like the "nobody saw this character coming to Smash" way of things since it's it's more of a surprise, and since I watch alot of reaction channels, it leads to genuine reactions. Better than what people know because of "leaks" or whatever the hell. It left past reactions like Ken, Belmonts underwhelming because people already knew, so that sucked major Ponyta balls :/
Still hoping for Ryu Hayabusa. People can call him a bandwagon pick, but that's literally what Geno was, lol.

I'm guessing the spirit battles that don't get updated for DLC fighters or Mii costumes (Bomberman, Min Min, Geno) are ones from the base game that are in World of Light, and therefore altering the fighters in it could affect the balance of the battle. To contrast, Cuphead's spirit was added post-launch and isn't in World of Light, hence they could change the opponent.
Unfortunately I highly doubt they would add costumes to existing characters, like Zelda, because Ultimate has stuck very adamantly to 8 alts for each fighter. But it would be great to get some kind of update or DLC that adds a bunch of extra alts for various fighters across the roster.
This 5chan leak really seems to fit with all the pieces. I'd heard from somewhere that Chun-Li was considered as a possible Street Fighter rep, so all this information seems to have been from early planning stages. It's hard to tell if Lloyd and Yuri both made it, or were being worked on and one of them eventually canned. And yeah, that talk about Geno saddens me, because what they're mentioning in there is essentially what happened for King K. Rool, he got revived by Smash and hopefully he can make further appearances in games.
Huh, just had a thought. Speaking of Chun-Li having been mentioned being considered for SSBU and then Ken being chosen instead, what if some of her attributes were passed to Min Min once development started on her, similarly to Fighter X's ideas being used on Byleth?
I still doubt that list's validity. It includes Captain Toad and Bandana Dee, base game spirits, but not Min Min, Ribbon Girl, or even Ninjara, fellow base game spirits. An ARMS rep was still anticipated pre-launch, and both Spring Man and Ribbon Girl (and even Twintelle) were clamoured for, but not even seeing a single one on the list is a major oddity.

Jin, Kazuya, or Alisa from Tekken, Dig Dug, Sophitia or Siegfried from Soulcalibur, Lloyd, Yuri, or Flynn from the Tales of series, Klonoa, and KOSMOS from Xenosaga.
Note: The ladder 3 are games I have never played, but I do know about through the media.
Dig Dug would be nice, but Alisa from Tekken would be better!

That big list of characters makes me really excited. There's a lot of good evidence for that list to be real, especially since someone trying to fake it wouldn't put Linkle from Hyrule Warriors or Lora from Xenoblade 2 Torna (both characters I have wished for in the past) over Master Chief or Dante

In my opinion Geno is already well represented.
We have a Geno Legend spirit, Mallow spirit, and a Geno Mii costume. For a character that's obscure outside of smash speculation, I'd say that's pretty cool.
And also a little reminder. Min Min has been the only character so far that went from spirit to Fighter. It might be time to get another spirit playable. Maybe.

@@Marcelo-rs8yh Bomberman is the sole representation of his series in Smash, as a Spirit, Mii costume, and Assist Trophy. And as of now, only a Spirit of Rayman represents his game/series. Oh, unless you count the Rabbids Mii costume. So yeah. We'll wait and see.
Just remember that Lloyd's voice actor, Scott Menville teased something a while back and still hasn't revealed what it is yet. That may be a good sign for Lloyd.

Looking back at the "leaked list" from the future, it still surprisingly has merit even now. Pyra/Mythra and Kazuya aren't on this list, but Rex and Heihachi are; and both of those characters were once considered to be playable fighters before they got replaced with other characters from their respective series. It might still be worth keeping an eye on that list of 40 characters.
Something that I thought of after your last video mentioning that Sephiroth may have been Challenger Pack 6 is that he would have made much more sense for E3 compared to Min Min. Honestly Steve and Sephiroth for E3 would've been really hype and it would've made so much sense.
Also it seems like everyone forgot that before it was revealed that we were getting a fighter from Arms back in March, Sakurai said in a Famitsu column that DLC was postponed due to issues with a third party. Maybe that first party was Square with Sephiroth as the character. I did find it odd at the time that they would choose a fighter from Arms to start off the pass when they started the first pass off really strong with Joker

@@MetalZuko Honestly, I feel like Eggman has a lot of creative potential for a moveset with how many machines he's piloted over the years, and how they'd translate all of it to Smash (some kind of mini-mech based on the Egg Walker?). A lot of people just want him since he's the most likely shot at another Sonic rep now but I genuinely feel like he could bring more to the table than just better extra Sonic content.
Hey papa, I've been thinking about the M-theory and I think we have gotten it wrong. In my country they do ratings differently. In the U.S It goes T then M+17, but other countries have a rating in between T and M usually something like +15. Most of the M rated games in smash are +15 games in other parts of the world. The games that are +15 are Bayonetta, Some of the Metal Gear games and Persona 5. The only game i could find that is +17-18 that is in is MGSV as spirits. No actual character in smash is from a +18 game (inturms of non US age ratings) so Doomguy, Ryu, Mortal Kombat characters and Yakuza characters (though some games are +15 like zero) are probably not going to happen.
Interesting, and not to mention, since KOS-MOS of Xenosaga was mentioned as well, that series is almost borderline M rated (if you watch the uncensored Japanese versions of certain cutscenes)

My Top 3 Most-Wanted Characters for Smash Ultimate:
3) Crash (Crash Bandicoot series) - I've only gotten into the Crash series about a year ago after picking up the N Sane Trilogy on a Black Friday sale. I even bought the recent entry It's About Time. I think a lot of his moves from Crash 3 onward could work in Smash, albeit still kind of basic. I would also love it if they brought in Coco as an alternate costume. The only thing keeping me from thinking of Crash as a certainty is the Blitzchung incident with Activision-Blizzard in 2019 where they actively caved to the authoritarian Chinese government. That debacle made Nintendo cancel the planned Overwatch Switch launch event. Even though that was more related to Blizzard, the company would have to be marked in trailers and credits as "Activision-Blizzard" and that would be bad for PR. None of this could be true and be pure skepticism on my part, so who knows...
2) Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia) - Tales of Vesperia was my first Tales game and I still love it to this day, so naturally Yuri has been one of my top picks for Smash at least since 4. Hopefully they can also get English voices and actually contact Troy Baker to reprise the role (something Namco sure as hell didn't do). The only thing stopping him is Lloyd or Sakurai preferring Velvet for being more unique, but I won't complain if either one of them gets in instead.
My Number 1 is going to be a controversial pick for multiple reasons; unless they announced a third Fighters Pass (which is very unlikely at this point), it will probably deconfirm a popular pick and there are arguments that this character is impossible due to its very nature.
1) Kasumi (Dead or Alive series) - Why would a character from a sexualized series be allowed in Smash? "Ryu Hayabusa is far more iconic." "If Mai couldn't even make a cameo, DOA doesn't stand a chance." There are still a lot of questions I have about the process in which Mai couldn't be altered that were never answered by Sakurai in interviews (I never asked him anything myself, just to be clear). There are a few things that might work in Kasumi's favor. Her character isn't as dependent on being sexual as Mai and is willing to wear more conservative outfits. If Nintendo, Sakurai, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja are all willing to compromise regarding simple alterations to her iconic outfit, it could work. While Dead or Alive is a sexualized series, it didn't stop Bayonetta from getting in (this sentence isn't about outfits, it's about the nature of a series) and they have been trying to veer perception away from that with the mainline fighting games. Plus, it would allow the series to show it's got appeal beyond fan-service. While Ryu Hayabusa is an iconic ninja and he could work in Smash, I haven't been able to come up with a new mechanic that we've seen in these DLC fighters (although Sakurai might have something unique in mind). I came up with an entire moveset for Kasumi and how it would not only reflect her home series, but also make her really stand out from any other fighter. She also wouldn't be a swordfighter (not complaining about more swordfighters, but we all know the community usually complains about ones either from Fire Emblem or they just don't recognize). This is just a long-winded justification for dreaming of my favorite female character to join the biggest crossover in video games.
