- #Short Tips #1 - Duplicolor Metalcast Paints - When trying to recreate something like the Hot Wheels Spectraflame paints with a rattlecan, I really like using these paints. The results over a highly polished casting are fantastic…and if you can’t get that high polish, they have a basecoat that yields great results. I have links to the paint in my Amazon storefront listed below.

I'm currently painting a guitar with the orange. I used the base coat, and it turned out pretty well, but I did notice I really needed to keep the coats light.
Some of the colors have been much more sensitive to pooling (especially the orange) while others seem easier to paint (the red) for some reason. Light coats is really the way to go.
Love the metalcast. Used the purple to paint a 1/16th Scale semi truck.
It really is great stuff!
That's my favorite paint. I have only tried with the silver basecoat never over polished metal(maybe next time). I have all of the colors. A 1k clear on top and I'm good to go. 😃👍👍🤙
It really works out SO well!
Awesome looking paint luv the red 👍✌️
Love the metal cast paint, I’ve been using it for years for customizing car parts on my personal cars but I haven’t try it on my hot wheels yet
You'll love it on the Hot Wheels too!
Great information!
Thanks for watching Mark!
Those working really well to make kinda spectra flame
They really do...but I've found that they spray a LOT better in warmer weather...so I keep hoping for some warm days ahead.
This is basically tinted clear right? No need for clear coat ?
great explanation, now visual comparison?
Thanks! About visual comparison, are you talking about showing the different colors compared to each other or to other paint?
My go-to for candy's, I have the same issues with yellow and orange.
Sigh...yep, the yellow and orange generally just leave me screaming lol
What I started with too. Love the color finishes. But still not quite perfect with clear coat going afterwards😮💨
I've had a lot of luck lately with the Wurth gloss clear -- you'll see it again soon in an upcoming Johnny Lightning build (over my favorite red Metalcast)
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms same. I think I like how the red one looks the best.
How do i try and get a darker green
With each coat of the spray, the color will get darker…which also means you need to be careful during the application to make sure it’s an even coat each pass. If I wanted a much darker starting point, I would probably lay down a coat of the smoke color first, then apply the green until I got what I wanted - I haven’t tried this yet, but it’s how I would approach it.
Hello, i was wondering what to use so the paint doesnt peel away and what clear coat brand you use? And if there is a white and black paints that you recomend
If the Metalcast paint is peeling away, it would seem that the casting isn't being cleaned well enough before spraying, if you're doing it on bare metal. If it continues to be a problem, there is a Metalcast base coat that can be used to make sure it sticks (but the results won't be quite as Spectraflame-ish). I'm really liking the Color Shot spray paints recently for a white and a black as well as other colors.
Thanks
Do u clear coat after ? If so what kind do you use?
I do - I use Wurth gloss clear lacquer spray
I think I can use a clear from AutoZone ?
Would this work on a bmx
Never tried anything that large, but it seems like it would, but you would want a really good clear coat.
And if what I want is to paint a metallic white color, what would be the option?
My choice for metallic white is Testors Extreme Lacquer White Lightning - it's a beautiful metallic white.
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustomsAnd I used that paint on the Mr.White base? or do I use it as a replacement?
Or the metal coat first?
@@krisoverdrive9733 Testors Extreme Lacquer is not a translucent paint like the Metalcast paints, so you can paint it over a primer coat (which is what I'm guessing the Mr. White base is...I haven't used it but I'm guessing the "base" is a basecoat)
I got the blue and every time if sprayed it on a polished car it just runs off like it’s water… wtf am I doing wrong 🤣😭
I can make a few guesses based upon when I've had problems: -- the Metalcast paints work far better when it's warm than when it's cold so I always make sure to warm the cans in winter months (even here in Calif lol) -- I always lay down two or three light mist coats before laying down a wetter coat (and there have been times where I only layed down mist coats by the time I arrived at the color I wanted...and then relied on the clear coat for the shine) -- I almost always use a toaster oven to bake the Metalcast dry in winter months, again trying to fight the cold and any moisture in the air. Hope this helps.
Jim has an entire AutoZone in his garage LOL Mine AutoZone only has red blue and purple :(
🤣🤣🤣...and to think I didn't even have any of the green left when I made the video 🤣🤣🤣
Durability has been an issue for me.
I haven't had an issued with it, but I always put a gloss clear coat over it. I can't say what the durability would be for me without it.
Me 2, paint almost rubs right off
Add a little heat
Can they withstand high heat?
I haven’t tried them in high heat myself, but the can says they are “heat resistant up to 500 degrees F (intermittent)”.
Does it work on plastic manifolds
I've tried it on small plastic pieces and its worked well. I haven't tried it on something like a manifold, plastic or otherwise, so I'm not sure how it would hold up.
Hello. For using this on hotwheels. How long should i wait to spray the clear coat over the paint?
For the Metalcast paints, I usually try to do the clear coat within the initial 1 hour application window. If that's not possible, or I don't want to do that for some reason, I'll do the clear coat with a compatible clear (as described in my videos) after 24 hours. Although Metalcast paint states to wait 7 days, I haven't run into any problems (so far lol)
