@Daniel Smith.....Well of course Bruce would be at a disadvantage in close quarters with big guys but the whole point of Original JKD is to stay detached like a fencer & close in fast on decisive targets....You mustn't confuse sport fighting with rules where size would make a huge difference with no rule streetfighting where getting in first to decisive targets with no rules would end it quickly whatever the size difference... Bruce would have been the first to admit that a 240 lb guy in close would destroy him. But he would stay DETACHED like a FENCER & break the kneecap....I wouldn't dismiss Bruce's philosophy or that which he borrowed from others like that. He wasn't a bullshitter. Sometimes people don’t want to kill others when drawn into a fight. That’s another role of martial arts. Guns are meant to kill people, martial arts allows a non lethal takedown.

Bruce Lee certainly was a master. I’ve heard there were times during filming where he was told to slow down his movements because _he moved faster than the camera’s shutter speed._ Apparently the reason we have so few recordings of his martial arts outside of films is because his style was more suited to taking down opponents quickly rather than prolonged bouts.
Most of the best modern fighters also know how to take people down quickly, it's just that when you see them fight, they are going against someone else who knows how to take people down quickly lol. He was a boxer, then he studied fencing, and then Wing Chun. You can see all three in the way he fights. The footwork, right foot font, is from fencing, also the right hand forward is the sword. He does other things but fencing clearly was a major influence on Jeet Kun Do.
All 3 train different aspects of fighting. Bruce studied every kind possible and applied what he believed was relevant. If he didn't die. The books he would of wrote about fighting would of been legendary.
Not really, you make it sound like he was a "boxer" first and foremost which is incorrect. His first intro to martial arts was Tai Chi from his father and then Wing Chun from Ip Man which was his largest influence. He also studied a bunch of other Kung Fu styles and did some boxing in college and won a tournament. After moving to the US he started teaching Wing Chun and opened up his own school. He then developed Jeet Kune Do.

Lee incorporated alot of his personal philosophy into his movies. Like in Enter the Dragon, he is asked what style he uses and his response was "style of no style". He also said that in real fights opponents won't care about stances and the usual rules of combat and the fighter must adapt which is why he made the "be like water" statement. This is why he is known as the father of MMA.
"He also said that in real fights opponents won't care about stances and the usual rules of combat and the fighter must adapt which is why he made the "be like water" statement." No, that was taken from Musashi's book, written 300 years before Lee was born. Read Book of Five Rings, you'll see the "stance of no stance" and "mind of no mind" stuff in there. Check the Water chapter if you're having trouble finding it. The Fire chapter is where you'll see the root of "be like water", such as in the "three methods of forestalling", where Musashi talks about overpowering the enemy, flowing with them, or pretending to relax momentarily to change their state. "This is why he is known as the father of MMA." No, he's called that because people want to give him credit for things he didn't do. They want him to be the one-stop shop for everything in martial arts. The fact is that Gracies were doing MMA twenty years before he was born, all through the time he was alive, and started UFC after he died. Their family brought modern MMA to the world. Sadly nothing has been released on film of Bruce in a live fight, though it has been said by people who witnessed those that challenged Bruce, that these fights did not last long at all, some over in mere seconds. It has been said that Bruce never liked hurting people at all and that's why he went the movie route. If you think Bruce Lee never had it, that's fair enough, but look at the head and body protection they are wearing in this video, Bruce Lee was one of the first in his schools to have his students don full protection for full contact. He never believed in point fighting for it was no way to gauge how good you really were and it was so far removed from actual street encounters. That is hilariously dumb. You can't use kicks to control a opponent, that makes no sense. Watch Muay Thai which is the only kick-focused singular martial art that is actually viable. They never kick someone from complete safety, that's not how fighting works. Kicks are extremely telegraphed, if you're able to kick someone they're able to also kick or even punch you. In fact one of the best times to punch in muay thai is when the opponent is kicking you. Or you can catch/check their kick and go for a sweep. Real life isn't like street fighter where you throw out medium kicks in neutral to put the opponent in block stun or some shit.

"He also said that in real fights opponents won't care about stances and the usual rules of combat and the fighter must adapt which is why he made the "be like water" statement."
No, that was taken from Musashi's book, written 300 years before Lee was born. Read Book of Five Rings, you'll see the "stance of no stance" and "mind of no mind" stuff in there. Check the Water chapter if you're having trouble finding it.

I'm not sure how they'd compare against a top MMA fighter or a top military special force commando...
@@intelligentspeculator7327 ofc bruce lee doesnt stand a chance against todays MMA fighters but for his era he was I think one of the best if not the best in mma as GSP says fighters of today are better then the fighter of yesterday
@@intelligentspeculator7327 I'm not sure why people base fighting skills or styles off of mma, yes it's a sport, but since mma is in a controlled environment it really doesn't expose a lot of what styles have to offer
some would say 2:45 mins of humiliation
and some would say
"wat a privilege it is to be ass-whooped by Bruce Lee"
😎👍
@Hoàng Nguyên Damn right.
I'd pay top dollar to get my ass whooped by Bruce Lee.
It is never a humiliation, it is always a learning for both sides. If you are a master and get ass whooped. That's just a sign telling you how much more work you have to put in to either be equal or better.
RIP to the goat Bruce Lee
@Oswald 11, if you think thats a whoopin you should probably stay away from fighting
@@bigwig2659 So u've fought with Bruce lee..
He was a real legend indeed and he still is for he will never be forgotten.
Yeah, an actor with no competition fights. What a legend lol.
you are right and there always trolls on UA-cam in every video like the jon b comment
@@wildbill7081 name how it's a troll comment. It's a fact that he is an actor who never competed against other martial artists. What is his professional fighting record? Let me help you out, it's 0 & 0 with 0 draws. Saying he is legit is no different than saying Michael B Jordan is legit at boxing because he does the Creed movies. Both in incredible shape, both actors, both of them actually trained in the sport/martial art that they portrayed in movies. So how is Bruce Lee any different? Because you heard rumors that he is legit? Imagine never seeing someone fight, and still pretending that they are great. How embarrassing for you.
@@jonb2756 yeah mr troll keep going like i give a f*** and you seem to think you know everything keep thinking that
@@jonb2756 Yea true. The Bruce Lee fanboys always try to make a point about how he is the greatest of all time but man.
If this is the only recorded fight we have he is legit Fighting someone who fights like he had never faced a human opponent in his life
Bruce Lee was so dominating in this fight and to see the great Joe Lewis sitting on the edge of the fight area eagle eye watching the battle was also special. At the 2:00 mark when Bruce counters the opponents kick he is cocked and ready to land a devastating right hook and the opponent realizes he could have had his head knocked off. Legend. Props off to the opponent for going the distance.
Who in tf is Joe louis
@@yaboyfrresh Joe Louis is one of the most famous Legends in the 1960's & 1970's Karate world. He and Bruce Lee became great friends and they both trained together sharing martial arts. Bruce helped Joe perfect his sparing punching and kicking techniques making him very tough to beat in Karate matches.
@@davidc6510 now that's impressive
That opponent he's fighting is good too. Just look at his posture and timing of his movement. Sadly his opponent was Bruce Lee who has hell lot of agility and skills.
@ijcn0jir3nvjn3fjcifn have you ever seen ufc fighters get beat by navy seals?
He was also exceptionally strong for his size.
@ijcn0jir3nvjn3fjcifn he looks pretty good to me (not super human level though)
That dude his sparring is his student he brought with him to help demonstrate his art style, not a real fight okay everyone knew this. Bruce has no tournament fights recorded 0-0-0. So stop putting down other competitors who were there.
Bruce was known to have bad eye sight and a bad back so a real in shape fighter would have beat him sooner or later.
Wow! Thank you for posting. This is truly amazing. I wish you could map the movements into some code, and graphics. That would be so incredibly awesome. Bruce Lee, Rest In Peace.
When I was a boy, friends used to rave about his films. I had no interest. I was busy with my life. When you see his skill, it’s mesmerising.
Born too early, died too young.
C'mon this is ridiculous. They are so fragile, they have to fight in kevlar space suits. This shit is only a myth.
Born too early .. prem baby?
@@taltosalmos7067 dude I wish I could watch you fight Bruce Lee and get fucked up 😭😂
It's pretty sad because this guy had more to deliver than take
@@taltosalmos7067 who are you compared to lee?
Love this channel 💯
Thanks Lyndon :)
Imagine what hell you'd be getting yourself into not knowing who Bruce Lee was at the time and also getting into a fight with him
Gene Lebell, stuntman/grappling master, beat the hell out Bruce lee on the set of Kato/Green Hornet.
Snowy Owl 77... when I was in high school (80’s)... I watched a fracas unfold at a gas station... two men had words over what.., I don’t know. But the aggressor wouldn’t stop, and the other guy gave him more than one chance to just turn and walk. The aggressor finally threw a punch and this dude laid the attacker on his back in like .3 seconds... two kicks and a punch to the melon... TIMBERRRR!
It was amazing lol...
Bryant Williams that was fake you moron, lol. He saying that from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Imagine a MMA fighter met bl the supreme dragon 🐉 movie actor and fought!
This is not a real fight. This is a sparring session and the man who is fighting against him is his disciple named Ted Wong.
And a light sparring session at that.
You mean Terry Wong. Terry Terry Wong

LOL!
Legend. He was actually “fighting without fighting”. It had meaning. Not just for the film. Let your enemy get himself into a vulnerable position.
That is actually the thing that sticks out most. Especially when you watch compared to his exaggerated film performances. He barely moves. Ultra efficient. Waits for opponents move and just adjusts and counters with incredible speed.
This!
Glad I finally watched this. Love that Bruce took the odd kick or two - shows that not only was this totally genuine, but also that the other guy was pretty good.
Any
Judging from his movements, Bruce Lee is holding his punches. Quite terrifying to think what would happen if this had been a real fight.
It's not just that he was holding everything back if not he could have broken a arm or leg and made it look stupid easy
I believe this was just a spar match and not an actual tournament fight
Zeek Banistor how do u know he only had one fight in his 32 years of life he was probably beating the shit out of people in Beijing when he was a student in tournaments or if he got mugged in the street
It’s obvious that Bruce lee can fight. But I believe he is not championship material
@@popanewone303

That's just part of his style. Being relaxed is part of it.
