I just saw an old black and white short showing off the crane style.. Bruce kicked with such unbelievable speed my jaw just dropped. I watch a lot of MMA etc. I am fully convinced no one else alive today has matched his kick speed.
Jackie Chan talking about Bruce Lee reminds me of an interview of Steven Spielberg when he was talking about an older movie director called John Ford. The grown men disappeared and they were just fan boys talking about their inspiration;).
Agree, when i was young i had a huge collection of Hong Kong collectors Magazines only about Bruce Lee but i NEVER saw this scene or picture before. Maybe its a behind the scenes one while playing around with stuntmen. Or its gone like the famous Saw-Scene from The Big Boss.
I have seen this picture before (can't remember were, but I guess jackie chans German UA-cam channel) , but even my Chinese dvd or vcd i buyed myself in Hongkongs copy market doesn't include this scene.

It must be quite something to swing through a paper window and fall 8 feet to the ground just to be told “let’s do that again” by the director… and the stuntman has to be : ok!
yes, he was one of the greatest martial artists. but he was also a great actor/director! he transformed the fight scene from chaos and bedlam to true art. recall the scene in way of the dragon, where he flexes his muscles before the fight scene... this was visual cinematic genius.
More precisely (and impressively), the camera's couldn't pick up his movements because the camera/shutter speeds weren't fast enough. So when they played back the tapes it looked like his opponents were getting knocked over without being touched as if Bruce Lee was using telekinesis. And even after Bruce slowed his movements down fast enough to be seen on tape, the producers had the editors slow the footage itself down so people could properly see it! Which is insane!
It seems to me bruce lee was punching and kicking so fast you cant even react to it, and jackie saying you cant even see it, meant he was fucking fast and he was stuntman he knows the speed of a punch
He was mocking the people around bruce lee saying they made him out to be not human like saying silly things like you can’t blink or you’ll miss his kicks
The only reason why jackie Chan became a Hong Kong Chinese Superstar , accepted all over the world is bec he NEVER was a wannabe Bruce Lee. He creates his own Movie category, like "Its a Charlie Chaplin film (means silent movie slapstick)", a "Charles Bronson like movie", a "Bud Spencer Movie), a "Bruce Lee Movie (without Bruce Lee)". An achetype, like a "Godzilla" movie, means big monsters in miniatureland, he creates a "Jackie Chan Movie", means Kung Fu with lots of laughter and fast but not so serious fights... As a Bruce Lee wannabe or Copy he would be long time forgotte, like all these garbage like Bruce Li, Bruce Lo, Bruce Liang etc... And every objective Martial Artist can agree that Lee was kind of super human. A punch in 1/8 second (means 3 frames of a Movie), a kick in 1/3 second ( 8 frames)...with POWER, not only a fast shaking of arm or leg. You can see it in one episode of Green Hornet, they had to repeat it many times bec the stuntman cant react about the punch fast enough to go KO. In Way of the Dragon you see the kick at the sand pit against the "Japanese", no trick at the speed bec you saw the moving of the trees and leaves and the Actors running in the backround normal speed...etc. And, when a small and thin guy from China/US is so fast accepted by the worlds most honorable Martial Artists, Stuntmen and Sensei, Masters and Sifus, without a black belt degree... Then you must be very very good...
Jackie got kicked instead of the Japanese actor... 3 times bc it was to slow the first time, to fast second time and third is the scene you see. Only wires and Jackie and Bruce Lees kick 😂
I think you misunderstood Bruce's philosophy. There's no such thing as "His style". His philosophy is, "There is no style, no form" "Absorb everything that is useful (for you) and discard everything that is useless." "Train every part of your body, master it." "When I see an opportunity, I do not hit, but it hit by itself." (Muscle memory) "Do not think, feel." (Instinct) This philosophy is very useful for anybody and for anytime. A battle against the enemy, fist fight, wrestling, kickboxing, weapon fight, war, anything. His philosophy is to know who is the enemy, and how to intercept it.
Bruce Lee was an 'actor' who was also good at fast martial arts. However, he was never truly in combat. The 'combatants' he threw around in his films were scripted compliant 'fall overs', like in Aikido demos.

Well he can’t lie on the speed of Bruce Lee as if the stunts had not done properly could have killed one of them. It had to look fast, but not Bruce Lee full speed as it would be so hard to get a good take and make it easy on the eye & not a fight that you just see people flying all over the set.
When Jackie says he was he was best stuntman I believe him!
