  • WE’VE GOT ONE!! Paul Rudd and Egon’s grandkids are back and this time they’re bustin’ ghosts in The Big Apple! When an ancient ice demon escapes from a literal Hellraiser puzzle box and threatens to freeze the world, they team up with the original Ghostbusters to save the world! Watch out for spooks, specters, and falling Stay Puft Marshmallows, as we dive deep into Slimer’s butthole to decide if this was the Ghostbusters movie we were promised. Special guest Dr. O’Rourke joins Dr. La Scola and Dr. O’Rourke in the dungeon.
    Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a 2024 American supernatural comedy film directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Reitman. It is the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and the fifth film in the Ghostbusters franchise. The film stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, and Logan Kim reprising their roles from Afterlife, alongside Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton reprising their characters from the earlier films. Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Emily Alyn Lind, and James Acaster also join the cast. Set two years after the events of Afterlife, the veteran Ghostbusters must join forces with their new recruits to save the world in New York City from a death-chilling god who seeks to build a spectral army.
    Following the success of Afterlife, Sony Pictures announced the sequel in April 2022, with Reitman returning as director. Co-writer and executive producer Kenan later took over as director from Reitman that December, with the latter staying on as a co-writer and co-producer. That same month, Rudd, Coon, Grace, Wolfhard, O'Connor, Kim, Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson, Potts, and Atherton were all confirmed to reprise their roles. New cast members including Nanjiani, Oswalt, Lind, and Acaster were announced in March 2023, with principal photography commencing that month and wrapping in June. Dario Marianelli was hired to compose the film's score, replacing Afterlife composer Rob Simonsen. This is the first film in the Ghostbusters franchise to be released following the death of the franchise's co-creator and Jason Reitman's father Ivan Reitman, who posthumously receives credit as a producer alongside his son and Jason Blumenfeld. The film is dedicated to Reitman's memory and celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first film.

    I had a ton of fun. Watching a Ghostbusters movie in 2024, in uniform with friends, while eating popcorn out of a ghost trap alone was a much needed serotonin shot. I just really hope we get an extended cut later on because it definitely felt like a lot of scenes were cut.

    Saw this last week. It felt like this film had two writers who love both films and cartoons, but it needed another look over. It's not great also its not terrible. The film is just okay. Hopefully, if they do make another, i hope Jason Reitman will come back for the next film because Afterlife had such good chemistry with the characters and was very heartfelt.

    I'm watching this episode with my step-son, and it's his first introduction to Movie Dumpster! I've already converted him into a Junior Ghostbuster over the years, and I'm happy to share the love of GBs with him during this renaissance we're having. Maybe he'll follow in my footsteps further and become a Junior Dumpster Dweller??? They grow up so fast 🥲.

    Commenting now without having watched the video. THIS is the ghostbusters sequel i wanted. Theres no re-establishing the universe. We dont have to build, it hops right in, on top of the nods to RGB lore. Is the movie perfect? No, its a ghostbusters movie. Its not going to wow you. It was a great light hearted, solid sequel.

      Afterlife wasn't made during the shut downs. It was filmed in the summer of 2019 before anything shut down. The locations they filmed it in were small towns, hence the lack of people, and also because the production was able to dictate how many people were on set, background actors and so on.

      I think they wanted it to feel very sleepy old town esque, and I also assume that there was originally going to be more of a Shandor town cult vibe, with not a lot of people out and about, but that was changed during filming. BTW I think Frozen Empire is going to age better, than when on first viewing. The film isn't horrible by any means, and has some good GB moments with the OGs, but it needs a director's cut with deleted scenes. @@TheNerdstalgicPodcast

    The one thing that keeps coming to me from the fan discussion is that the film seems to have given people ALOT to chew on. So it’s not as tight as Afterlife, but it’s almost by design because the movie has distinct acts. There are soooo many things they brought in from RGB. Once the fandom has time to digest it over the years I think it’s going to be a favorite. The kid reaction in the theater I was in was very positive, my teenage daughter liked it. She relates to Trevor and Phoebe, and Podcast…there are little reactions from them all throughout the film she often chuckled at.

    My only downsides of the film is that there’s too much setup for the main villain and not enough time of everything being frozen. What should’ve been an hour of set up and an hour of everything being frozen and showing a real threat of this ghosts “Frozen Empire” of ghosts falls flat and feels like it was barely an inconvenience and so easy to defeat, even though up until that point the movie sets him up as this horrifying demon who can not only control other ghosts but freeze everything and lots of people at one time in a matter of an instant. Like the whole time I was waiting to see the guy in action and when he’s finally there he gets defeated so fast. I still like it, it’s just with a title like Frozen Empire you would expect that there’d be more time of everything being frozen and the ghost being shown as a leader of an empire of ghosts that attack the city. It sucks that such a cool idea and villain was wasted…

    • @MrUniq

  • @patrickcharles6983
    @patrickcharles6983 3 місяці тому +3

    I didn't hate Frozen Empire, just didn't like it as much as I wanted to. Some of the subplots could've been cut, the Last Firebender felt unnecessary(since fire is what took out ghostgirl, she could've been the key to defeating Garrakka)&the damn Staypuffs shouldn't exist since Gozer is gone. Honestly a smaller more personal story would've been more interesting(not every case the GBs deal with is world ending, but the client is in extreme danger.) or if you were going big story, Dan Aykroyd's original part3 idea would've been a good direction, Hades as the villain & hellscape NY could've been cool. end of the day it was GB:Frozen Empire is a rental flick.

  • @kamenrangerzeo8251
    @kamenrangerzeo8251 3 місяці тому +1

    I do agree with you guys that maybe there are some thing that they could have changed, In terms of plot. And maybe had some of the other plot points make some impact on the film, but it is me I still think its fine and fun and I think both afterlife and frozen empire are definitely up there skipping the 2016 one.
    Plus if you go by timeline wise like the first film of Ghostbusters, then Ghostbusters 2, followed by the video game (which I’m not gonna lie I consider it the third film of the franchise) afterlife and now frozen empire is part of it. Now if I was gonna do a follow up sequel to frozen empire I will probably incorporate some ideas from the Ghostbusters video game and have it where Goser does somehow make a return but with a different appearance and then possibly for the final confrontation where the state puff marshmallow man helps at Ghostbusters I guess this new reform gozer.

    • @lutherheggs451

      Bill Murray was literally phoning it in when they made the game, to the point that Venkman disappears from the game because Prick Murray got bored working and left halfway through the voice over recording sessions. Its why the 2nd half of the game Venkman either says nothing or says things he already said because they could just recycle lines.

Then he could expand operations and hire more people.
      If there's another movie, I think we'll see the new facility completed and a larger Ghostbusting operation overall. I just hope they don't make the same mistake and spend too much time on secondary characters.

    I feel like too much was crammed in for.... Reasons... I personally would've made changes to this film and had it as the sequel to being back in New York. I would've had a whole film dedicated to the family coming to New York and reestablishing the Ghostbusters and called it "back in business" while using Garaka as an over arching villain for the New York films. Frozen Empire could've been a dark mid piece where he destroys the firehouse and releases the ghosts and has his army while the team have to pick up the pieces and move to the new location. And the third film would be the Spenglers stepping into their roles as the new paranormal exterminators and eliminators

I long for the 80's, yes, we had sequels but they were great and there was so much originality. Oswalt and Nunjiani suck, nothing to do with political stuff, they're just douchbags. Interesting how all these ancient people's were supposedly running around fighting demons and imprisoning them left right and centre but the modern word knows nothing about it apparently, then again, they all seemingly forgot about the events of the first and second films, so dumb.
