Batman (Val Kilmer) faces off against two foes: the schizophrenic, horribly scarred former District Attorney Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones), and the Riddler (Jim Carrey), a disgruntled ex-Wayne Enterprises inventor seeking revenge against his former employer by unleashing his brain-sucking weapon on Gotham City's residents. As the caped crusader also deals with tortured memories of his parents' murder, he has a new romance, with psychologist Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman).

That fucking McDonald’s commercial just unlocked a bunch of memories I forgot I had lol
Honest trailers said it best "this is definitely the worst movie ive seen 40 times"
John Astin & Frank Gorshin both played The Riddler in the Adam West Batman so when Gomez Addams gets bored at home sometimes he dresses up as The Riddler and fucks with Batman to get his Jollies off
Came here for this comment. I remembered Gomez doing it for like one or two episodes.
I went to the video store and said 'Can I have Batman Forever?' they said 'No, you have to bring it back tomorrow'
🤣
funny lol
The on screen video format is perfect for you guys, shows off your enthusiasm/loathing and energy! Also I agree with Joe, Val Kilmer is underrated as Bruce/Bats!
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
1:28:02 There are some scenes in the film that are out of order. The Wayne Enterprises scene was supposed to come first, and then Bruce suiting up and the bank robbery. The Batsignal in that scene is an alert for the bank robbery. Nygma killing Stickley happens after Two-Face escapes and makes the helicopter crash. All of these scenes happen on the same day.
Then Batman and Chase meeting on the roof is after the circus tragedy since she was supposed to say that she noticed Two-Face’s coin at the circus last night instead of the bank cuz she never saw him use his own there. Bruce seeing the Batsignal from Wayne Manor is the one Chase sends up. Then the sequence of Two-Face chasing Batman occurs right after.
Sometimes we don’t go totally in order, we might even mention we went out of order in the episode.
On that note what if Raul Julia would have been The Riddler in this movie
The other Gomez, Jon Aston filled in for Gorshin on 60s series.
I made a little internal "squee!" when I saw you were covering this. I remember seeing this for my seventh birthday. I had a Batman Forever matching watch with glow in the dark hours and hands with a riddler emblem emblazoned on the face of it wrapped around the bat insignia.
If there are any other movies the Mrs. can speak this enthusiastically toward, please have her back. She added a lot to this show and felt almost like the hidden unlockable cast member we just got the cheat code for. She didn't miss a beat™.
One of my favorite cinematic deliveries since childhood is contained within this gem of a film. I love the scene wherein Riddler's head is being over stuffed with knowledge, etc and he just says: "mmm bummerrr" 👏👏👏
I remember reading or hearing back when the movie came out that Bob Kane thought Val Kilmer was the best Batman up to that point (quick google search seems to confirm that, also take it for what it's worth since all the controversy surrounding Bob Kane's Batman creator status). Everyone is gonna have their favorite, I'm still favorable to Keaton, but I also really like Val Kilmer as an actor, and he doesn't take anything away from the character at all. This movie is fun and fine.
Batman & Robin was the last Batman film he saw before he died, so it seems fitting for Bob.
Joel Schumacher gets wrongly criticized for the Batman films being more humorous and kid friendly, when it was Warner Bros that forced him to do it that way. He was hired to do the job and made WB some serious cash as a result.
#JusticeForJoel
Batman Forever without a doubt is better than most people give it credit for. I think maybe WB let him go a little too wild for Batman & Robin though, but even he had admitted that years later. -Sean
@@MovieDumpster In some ways, I actually enjoy Batman & Robin more than Forever. I recognize all of its flaws, but that's what makes it so entertaining to me.
Now this is the trio we needed! #MOREDIDDLER
19:00 Thank you! I loved Val Kilmer's take on Batman. I think Keaton was better, but Kilmer was a very, very underrated Batman.
My favorite thing about the Diddler is how much greasier his hair is than Sean's.
Legalize Sleaze
My fav episode so far. I was a 90s kid so this was played constantly in my house.
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
I would say Joe's wife should be in more episodes, but I'm worried Joe would mistake my intentions and he and Sean would throw me a beating...
Not at all! Glad you enjoyed her as a guest! -Joe
“I’m the Diddler, I don’t know what things are called, I just touch em’!” Lol
Joe, your impressions man! 🔥
Much prefer the videos rather than just the audio - great decision
Thank you!! Took us a little while to get it off the ground, but we're really happy with how its been going so its nice to see y'all are liking the video format too! 💚📼
@1:03:00 ish, it's awesome to hear them say they wish the Red Triangle Circus Gang made an appearance in this movie because the Peter David novelization begins with Batman rounding up the last of the Penguin's men, plus the best part is the added prologue of Nygma getting a severe head injury as a young man, which has a big part in why he was so obsessed with Bruce Wayne. The book's Nygma thinks them both kindred, tortured souls. These scenes would really add to the film, should they even exist, but David's book is probably based on that very, very early script.
Another epic Dump, guys... 🗑 🚮 👍
That sounds friggin amazing, we have to do a Book to the Movie with C.B. Smith on it at some point! Thanks for watching! 💚📼
@@MovieDumpster That would be fantastic to see! I have a personal love for David's book because as a kid I got grounded on Forever's opening day and had to sit home reading while my friends all hit the theater. Childhood trauma casts a wiiiiiiide cape... 🦸♂️
@@MovieDumpster The book even gives Chase more to do. She meets Dick and his father in the beginning after she gets purse snatched and Dick stops the thief. After Batman leaves her apartment, she reveals that she figured out that Bruce was Batman after seeing him fight in the circus. There are more callbacks to the first two movies. Even Harvey Bullock has a cameo.
Somebody send CB a copy of this book
Took me 30 mins in to realize Sean had neon green around his eyes
I noticed immediately
I have such a soft spot for this movie. Me and my sister randomly send each other the pic of Val Kilmer doing that awkward smile in the batman mask all the time. I love this format you guys!! Love movie dumpster!
Glad you’re diggin’ the show! Thank you so much for watching! 🙏💚📼
So I watched the movie "Val" because of this review and it was great. I cried SEVERAL times. Thanks for the recommendation!
It’s so good!
The first Batman movie I ever saw in the theater. Because of that I will always love this movie ❤💚 I was a happy 5 year old that summer of '95 😊
Same from me watch the frist 4on vhs lot as a kid
@@adamdenby1282 Me as well! Sitting in front of the TV in my Batman costume pretending to be driving the Batmobile. 🦇😊
i saw it in the theater as a 7 year old. I also saw batman and robin in the theater lol
@kevindiesal Wasn't that bad of an introduction.
@@Tuvok_Shakur same here lol
I like my Robin old enough to have a 401k
Aww come on man! He was only a 34 year old whipper snapper.
I should re-watch this one. I was more of fan of 89’ Batman, Returns was definitely more macabre and Forever and B&R were more colorful and campy.
Laughed so hard at this review!!!
The McDonalds glasses and the soundtrack to this movie were awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, go back and give it another chance, it's a ton of fun!
i remember my dad buying the bootleg version of this movie from a guy in the streets: the cover just the xeroxed version of the posters, unmarked black vhs, the movie blatantly filmed with a camera in a movie theater XD still have it somewhere
Origins was better than Arkham Knight and is really underrated, the Deathstroke fight was actually a fight in Origins. It was on PS3 and X360, its not part of the remasters since it was a different studio.
I liked Origins and yeah the Deathstroke fight was awesome in it, but I do prefer Arkham Knight over it. Both are solid entries for different reasons. -Sean
Omg, when I was a kid, the very first time I went to Six Flags, my big bigger took me (he’s 10 years older than me) and I had to be like 8 or 9, and I will never forget the big thing of the day was seeing the Batman show 😭😭👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻 it was the greatest thing on earth, I will *forever* remember Batman’s entrance: “did somebody call my name?” And he swung in on a zip line with the theme from either the fist two or second two movies and it was like magic to kid me 🤯🤯 fucking BATMAN WAS ZIP LINING IN 50 FEET AWAY, my life was perfect at that moment in time 🤩
I remember the Batman show at sixflags Astro world, and I’ll never forget this one guy going through the crowd singing kiss by a rose
Batman Forever was my first Batman movie and I Love it and Val Kilmer is my favorite Batman
You guys certainly seemed to be having a good time, I was laughing every time you all laughed!
We had a great time! Glad you enjoyed it! 💚📼
I have to disagree with some of Sean's Batman points on the detective work in the beginning. In Batman '89, he only had like one scene where he actually did any detective work, and even then, when WE see him doing it, he's already done it all and already has all the answers about the fuckin' makeup poison. Lucius Fox was the only detective in the whole DKR Trilogy as far as I'M concerned, Ben Affleck was just pissy all the time, Clooney did no detective work whatsoever, Kilmer mostly just hit on what's her face, and whenever Adam West shows up to a crime scene they just TELL him all the facts he needs to know, which means he doesn't even NEED to be a detective, and he isn't. In that universe he's pretty much just a deputized street cop in footy pajamas. And Gotham's police have worse aim than most Storm Troopers. They would be hitting their targets more accurately if they just threw their fucking guns AT The Joker.
Totally get what you mean and I don’t even disagree entirely with your point. I was playing it up for the sake of comedy by naming every movie. They all have a little detective work, although I would argue The Dark Knight had to most before The Batman, it just never was a focus in a lot of those movies. -Sean
I don't think Tim Burton HAD to read any of the books for the movie. Jack Nicholson already studied basically the whole first run of the comic book series just so he could nail The Joker. He'd thought it was a pretty big deal because of how big the character was back then. He even suggested lighting tricks to put that black streak through his green hair just like the books but he said it didn't quite work out as planned.
Also, joe and his wife are legit marriage goals....
Recently saw you guys on hack the movies, Gentlemen you had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
Thanks for giving us a chance! 🙏💚📼
This came out nine months before I was born. I owe my existence to it.
You're parents definitely conceived you to Kissed by a Rose
I'm sure Schumacher would have appreciated the flourish that The Diddler threw on to the outro there. Great episode.
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Diddler is my favorite Batman character
I didn't know Schumacher had a cameo in the movie
The whole discussion on the 'grittiness' of the movie reminds me that the Batman was originally a blatant ripoff of the Shadow. And by ripoff, I mean literally plagiarized entire stories and traced art. It's why Batman originally had a gun.
Hey Joe! Your wife is delightful. 👍
"Batman & Robin is great, says the Diddler!"
The Diddlers reign of terror must be stopped
Batman Forever, the sequel ruined by McDonald's. the sad part is Joel gave us a fun, dark movie featuring bat-people(the Lost Boys) and another with a disturbed individual dealing his brand of vigilante justice(Falling Down). You'd think this should been an awesome movie. I don't hate the movie, but compared to the Burton film I sure do.
Your wife is awesome! Fun times with the Dumpster Dwellers.
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
These movies were never actually ABOUT Batman so much as the villains. The plot to '89 is that Joker's plans keep getting trashed by Batman and he's upset about it. Returns is about a deformed baby who was thrown over a bridge that gets revenge on the whole city 33 years later. Forever is about a mentally unhinged scientist learning to take control of a mind and also Batman and Robin are there. Ignore B&R. Let that one die.
Sad Jim Carrey got $20 million, but Val got $50 bucks and some black hair dye he never used...
Don’t forget the hearty handshake he got, as well.
I need to rewatch Forever, but My pick for the most underrated Batman movie is Mask of the Phantasm. Which say what you want about other animated movies “not counting,” that one did have a theatrical release so in my mind it can and should be considered when talking about theatrical Batman films. Plus the 90s animated Batman series IMO might be the best portrayal of Batman in film or TV ever. If you’re talking my favorite “live-action” Batman movies? It’s a tie between the two Tim Burton ones.
Holy SHIT! I totally forgot I used to have that sleeping bag!😆😆😆
I Really Really Enjoyed This!!!!
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
My memory is a little foggy but I'm pretty sure there was a Batman forever ride at the 6 flags in soCal when I was a kid
I remember seeing that Batman Forever stunt show in the 90s at Six Flags Astroworld in Houston (closed in 2005). The only thing I remember about it is Riddler's head blowing up as a giant balloon.
It's Riddler. It's Edward Nygma (Enigma). He's part of Batman's Rouges Gallery.
Diddler is a bad sensual knock-off.
Riddler is my favorite villain, but I wonder what The Didder's real name would be? D. Givya maybe? -Sean
Thank you guys for the goodie bag !!
My favorite Batman movie.
1:23:31 You know those girls were the popular 90s girl group called En Vogue. They were really Popular back in the 90s, I loved their music! 😁😁😁
Ah, we knew they looked familiar! Thanks for filling us in! 💚📼
@@MovieDumpster Yup, Joel Schumacher even confirmed it in the commentary. Didn't know that growing up till then. 😏
Can't wait for the Batman forever book to the movie episode!
Jon Aston was also Riddler on 60s series. After Gorshin I believe.
i both loved and hated this movie but i did like the villains i hope you guys do a batman and robin review love the show guys
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Love your content. Keep up the great work !
Gotham stands no chance when the Diddler is on the loose, Great review Dumpster gang 👍
Don't go into the movie expecting a sequel to batman returns and you won't be disappointed. Forever is a kinda campy guilty pleasure movie it is enjoyable. Schumacher was kinda the rian Johnson of the time but its so much better than what followed
Warner Bros.: We're cutting Marlon Wayans' Robin out of the movie due to character bloating.
Warner Bros. weeks later: Now's our chance. Hire that white dude with the ear ring while Marlon isn't looking, QUICKLY!
EDIT: Thank you for the favorite, Sean. -Harley
Please keep her, 3 commentary is king!
Sean did you just cover your face with a green highlighter?? Lol
It was green face paint haha I'll have to break out the highlighter next time though! -Sean
@@MovieDumpster Haha yeah science the hell outta that.
Another good video fellas entertaining as always and your wife's a fox and she seems like a sweetheart 🤘 keep it up it's been a very fun season
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
OMG I remember that t.v. spot for the BM Forever live action show, never got to see it though. Closest I got was riding the Riddler's Revenge at Six Flags and man did my balls take a pounding on that stand up roller coaster.
Hello, love the channel (new to it) would you consider in the future reviewing "Dale and Tucker vs Evil"?
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼 We’ve talked about it, but we probably won’t be covering it this year. Great movie though!
McDonald's changed the course of the Batman franchise. They sent the caped crusader into a nosedive. Shame on Warner Bros. as well.
Absolutely. We talk about it!
@@MovieDumpster Fantastic episode!
I forgot how hilarious this review was. I am so glad I revisited it a year later. I might have laughed more this time around.
🙏💚📼
I collected all of those glass Batman Forever cups I think from McDonald's. Still have them. I was so pumped for this movie when it came out but I was 8 at the time.
This is one of my favorite batmobiles
Harvey! I'm Batman! 🤣🤣🤣
Holy cow 2 batman things in one weekend. The batman and the movie dumpster review for batman forever
I admire your work 🥁🔥🥁🔥 much love from Puerto Rico🥁🇵🇷🥁
Thank you so much!! 🙌💚📼
A guilty pleasure grew up with this film loved the figures too.
Allright ya’ll I’ll read the novelization BUT only if the diddler shows up.
You might regret that when it happens 😂
@@MovieDumpster
Never!
I agree with Joe on Bale and Keaton’s Batman. Val Kilmer was good but this movie is pretty weak for me as an adult. 10 year old me loved O Donald’s Robin.
@MovieDumpster: I don't know if you guys saw Tony's review of this but he goes into the same detail as you guys do.
Still this review you did is in great detail and fun. A little fun fact I don't know if this is true or not but there was a rumor that Nicole Kidman was originally supposed to be Poison Ivy and that the name dr. Chase Meridian what's an alias that she used cuz there are elements of Batman the long Halloween in this film.
I actually edited that episode! 😆 And yeah, seen the rumor but think it’s just some fun fan speculation. Thanks for watching! -Sean
Awesome podcast
Thank you! 🙌💚📼
Movie was alright, Good stuff all around, still shocked Tommy Lee Jones took the role of Two-Face. But the movie was special. heck on of my first ever cds was the soundtrack " Like A Kiss From A Rose On The Grave....Baby!!!"
I mean I liked it when it came out, but I was a kid and probably not very discerning.
Like we say in the video, give it another shot! It's definitely goofier than Batman '89 or Returns, but it's still a solid-ass entry. -Sean
When this movie came out, i hated it so much that i didnt even bother watching batman and robin till a couple years ago. But hearing you guys discuss it, and hearing from the people involved over the years, i have to say my opinion has not changed and this goes right into the dumpster.
Hey, to each their own!
Its why I love your channel, it gives me a perspective that often i would never agree with, but has shown me movies I never would have heard of otherwise. Also book to the movie is my favorite thing, because learning about how adaptations are done is always just fascinating. Thank you all for the work you do, it's very much appreciated.
Joel wanted to do batman year one which Keaton wanted to do when wb wouldn’t go for it Keaton dropped out. Also Marlon Wayne’s got paid to not be in it as he had a contract to be robin in burtons 3rd batman movie.
4:38 yep, you can see Tim Burton talk about that interview with Warner Bros in the documentary, the studio nervous about parents backlash to Batman Returns deprived us of TIM BURTON'S BatMan 3 ua-cam.com/video/JKMSKvJncf4/v-deo.html
The score is the same as interview with a vampire(weird) like same score with some tweaks.
That’s like a Hook and Mosquito kind of thing, never noticed that!
While not what I was expecting when it came to Batman movies, it wasn't terrible. As Famous Tony from Hack the Movies has coined it was "Fun and Fine". Batman and Robin on the other hand is bad
Batman and Robin is just downright awful! -Sean
I miss the 90s, guys.
Never been a big fan of this like batman and Robin more cus that flimy bat shit crazy saw the new batman other day fking love it will it you bee talking about it on here
We weren’t planning on doing a The Batman review, but who knows. We might change our minds!
I love Chris odonel in this role the movie sux but still it's a fun cheesy batman movie
This one (instead of the proposed 5th film) should’ve been titled Batman Triumphant as in “Tri” umphant, as in “Tri”, as in three, as in Batman THREE; this way you make Batman 4 Batman Forever, as in Batman “FOUR” ever. Thereby making it Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Triumphant, and Batman Forever. But that’s just me.
This movie is very much influenced by that era of comics where Joker would leave clues for the Gotham police regarding a crime he’s planning, so they could tell Batman and Robin, and they would try stopping Joker, but the crime was just the bait to lore The Dynamic Duo into a trap, so Joker could tie both of them to a rocket and fire it and them to the moon because “lol”.
@35:03 HaHaHaa, come out of the closet, LOL 🥴😄😅
I had bunch of those cups
1:23:30 the sexworkers were played by girlband En Vogue... known for hits like Don't Let Go, Free Your Mind, My Lovin.
Ah, no shit? That’s funny.
Wondering how these guys would react if I said I like Batman and Robin more than this
I’d say “that’s ok, and I’m glad you like it, but I don’t”. -Joe
@@MovieDumpster I actually wrote this comment before I got to that part of the video.
No sweat, haha. Never feel bad about liking something because someone else doesn’t. We can have a fun, insightful discussion instead of calling each other idiots for liking said thing. -Joe
I was lookin for the dirty comments but I couldn’t find any.
There’s plenty in the video 😂
I love this batman
this had a good soundtrack
Only Diddle Kid can stop the Diddler!
His one true weakness! 😂
This movie and other movies that I see over the years are in the same category of what Honest Trailers said best that "this is definitely the worst movie that I've seen 40 times" lol. Other than Jason Goes to Hell, The Room (2003), The Carnosaur trilogy, the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Haggard (2003), Minghags (2009), Beowulf (2007), and so on.
the Diddler 🤣
