    Guys, incase if you guys are not aware already:
    - Thor retired from Strongman in 2020 after his 10th Iceland's Strongest Man title.
    - For 30 months, he never trained anything remotely heavy, but only Boxing specific training. Daily calories went from 10k to 5k, lots of cardio, endurance work and boxing training. He went from 205 (452) to 145 (320) bodyweight.
    - Now he is gradually getting used to Heavy weights again. These are not show off lifts, but getting your body adapted to weights again. His plan is to is put up a 1000 kg raw total in another 28 days. 🤞🏻
    - His current bodyweight is 159.5 (351.5).

      I can’t find the video anymore but at Iceland’s strongest man a couple years ago, there was a stone over bar event. Thor’s opponent was struggling and Thor was just casually repping out push-ups on his knuckles in the meantime. He then proceeded to rep the stone 10 times beating the following two competitors that were up against him.

    Although benching is definitely partially determined by body weight , it can also backfire . Thor’s super wide frame is limiting his leverages on the bench by how “tight” he can set up . Hence we saw haack who has smaller but more optimal frame for the BP hence the numbers haack can move . Although , there are plenty more factors affecting thor.

      @@pocangel julius benches twice as much, saying that is only because of arm length is ignorant. Thor is taller so his potential to build strength is actually higher

    • @twirdman2
      @twirdman2 Рік тому +2

      This is ignoring two massive difference. One this is not Hafthors bench PR. This is Hafthors bench PR post massive weight loss. His actually PR is 250 kg in competition. Second Hafthor when he got his PR was a world class all around athlete since he trained strongman. Julius is a bench press specialist.
      Comparing the 2 would be like saying clearly Usain Bolt is a far superior athlete to Kevin Mayer, Lebron James, Bo Jackson, and others because well compare their 100m dash times. I mean Kevin Mayer only ran a 10.5 that's super slow in comparison.
      I mean do you think Julius could even compare to Hafthor in deadlift or squat or yoke walk or farmers carries or stones or any event that Hafthor specializes in that Julius doesn't? At his peak bench press was at best an accessory lift for Hafthor.

    At his current 350 lb body weight, lifting 400 pounds is the equivalent power to weight ratio of a 175 lb guy benching 200 lbs. That's a 1.14x body weight lift. It's amazing to think that John Hack in the 200lb division benched almost 600...nearly 3x body weight. (I know it's way different for super heavyweights, so spare the additional comments. It's just an interesting stat.)

I do realise that bench is not something that strongman develop if contrasted to powerlifters but damn, man...only 396, and he his goal is only 440? For a seasoned strength athlete who weighs around 320 lbs. to only press 1.4 his weight is pretty awful honestly. Hope he get much better numbers than that in the future.
