At just over 180+ lbs in 1970 I would use 220lbs for 3s.I was just a good curler but it didn't transfer to other lifts.
Many strong men in past could use over 300+ for reps.
Powerlifters don't usually do cheat curls & Olympic Weightlifting also not needed so curlers are our ordinary gym brothers across world building arm strength.

A very good friend of mine is a naturally good curler. I always get my mind blown by how he can easily curl 155lbs for reps whilst I can't even get 135lbs for one with good form lol. The weird thing is how disproportional this is compared to his other lifts. I'm stronger than him on SBD by a lot, but I can't even comprehend how in the fuck this guy has so good curling genetics.
Also, he trains curls only once a week, his focus has always been on SBD but somehow he is just a natural freak when it comes to bicep strength.

@@bisnaguitogames683 I read up on this. Being Bicep or Tricep dominant is a genetic thing. Same here. My Tricep is massive and strong AF but my Bicep is far behind.

I remember reading in the old IronMan magazines in the early 70's, it showed a picture of Casey Viator doing strict curls with 225...I believe it said 10 reps. Paul Anderson did curls (can't remember how many) with a 300 lb. dumbbell at Zuver's Gym in the early 60's.

Pretty full bicep (both heads are developed), could have a couple centimeter better attachments in both side (near the elbow and near the shoulder) 8/10
Forearm flexors are quite short compared to top level athletes 6/10
Brachioradialis Insane attachment, huge help for him if he wanted to be a top-roller 9/10 (10 is reserved for Oleg Zhokh, Artur Makarov and others like them)
Insane tricep horseshoe genetics, could be a brilliant presser 8/10
Sadly from what I'm seeing in Instagram photos his pronator teres muscle (one of the most important muscles to keep the center and your wrist integrity) is either not developed or not that gifted in genetics 4/10
Over-all verdict would be that he's a little more gifted than Larry Wheels and could reach his level, or pass him, with enough dedication, but sadly the pro scene is not up for grabs no matter how much dedication he has
