If you ruck, you will LOVE the 3.0 over the 2.0. The drainage grommets are life changing. Anyone who was at the Recon Raider HTB last year knows exactly what the fuck I am talking about. The new material is great, and the way it carries weight is amazing.
@@JBOutside1 Nice. I did have a GR1 a few years ago and sold it regrettably. Replaced it with a Rucker 3.0 last Spring and also bought the Recycled Firefighter bag as well. I've been using the Rucker for EDC, etc and the RF for work. Am about to consolidate to the Rucker as the pocket inside does hold my laptop... Great bags.
For heavy weight you really need a pack with a frame and an integrated waist belt to distribute the weight properly. I purchased a Gregory 30L. Great pack with a lifetime guarantee. Too many guys blowing out their lower back rucking without a waist belt.
@@blakecondon5904 I used to but it was too unstable because there was a lot of the pack I had to fill out with towels, rags, etc. I now use a water weight I purchased off Amazon. I love it! It fills out most of the pack. If I want extra weight, I can add a couple small weight plates.
@@blakecondon5904 I use a 25 lb. water weight that I got off Amazon. Basically it's a large bladder that you fill up to the weight you want. I started rucking with around 20 lbs. Now I completely fill the bladder and add a 2.5 lb. weight plate to bring it to just over 30 lbs. including the weight of the pack and towels. I've occasionally carried a couple of Nalgene bottles in the side mesh of the pack to bring it up to 35 lbs. The water bladder is nice because it fills out the pack and distributes the weight nicely as opposed to a large iron plate. You can then fill out the pack with some towels.
Thanks for the comment on JTs UA-cam channel. After watching this, I think I might get the standard frame Rucker rather than the small. How do the different colors hold up to dirt and wear? Do they all clean up and look brand new, or will the lighter colors hold some of that “patina” from abuse and weathering? Awesome video… I’m going to take a look around, I’m guessing there are some other nuggets I’m going to enjoy.
Thanks JC! This is an older video...I got better 😜But I agree. Check out my Rucker video and it will show all three versions. Like most things, they all hold a little dirt. Darker colors are easier to clean compared to the lighter colors. But it also matters what the dirt looks like! 😂
Bless a friend or family member with an old bag and then purchase yourself with the new model. Or wait 40 years, I am sure something better will be on sale
@@raywade5845 I am very impressed with the build quality. I am starting out with 35lb amazon plate and have a 10 and 15lb plate to build up to. I am nowhere near ready for a goruck event but looking forward to getting stronger.
That is the problem with the waist belt. The point of the belt is to carry the weight of the pack on your hips. I have the GR1 and speedrucker and that's what I don't like about them.. Its hard to get the weight into the belt. The weight should not be on shoulders as much as they are.
I agree it’s not a great design if you’re hoping to get the weight off your shoulders. It’s only really good to keep the ruck from hitting you in the head when doing bear crawls. After a while I’ve just strengthened my shoulders where I don’t need the hip belt at all. It’s off the ruck 99% of the time.
@@asdf1234_. you bring up a lot of great points. I’m actually working on a new video that talks about things GORUCK travel. I’ll probably answer most of this there. But in the meantime, I’d only stress the fit and function of the Rucker since that’s what you’ll be most under load with. I like the 26L GR1 for travel because of the added space. Again, I only use the waist belt for events to A) prevent the ruck from hitting me in the head during bear crawls and B) for an alternate carry position when the shoulders are smoked. Hope this helps and stay tuned!
Hey, great catch! These are for your hands on long rucks. They help readjust the ruck every so often. Cheap on Amazon. They also prevent blood from pooling in your hands and swelling up your fingers. I don’t have a problem with swelling so it’s just another place to put your hand’s mostly.
So It will fit. That pocket can by awkward to load/unload routinely due to the location. It will certainly secure your laptop. If you’re going to mostly use this as EDC then the GR1 would be better.
@@JBOutside1 copy that, I got 3 plates 35lb yes4all, 10lb yes4all and a15lb a2zcare plate. All in I am under the price of a single go ruck weight and now I can adjust weight as needed.
Thanks for the review. Ordered my 3.0 this week; just waiting for it to arrive!

Great comparison, right to the point with real life experience. Thanks!

Also curious what you use for weight and how you keep it close to you back, stable.

What's the point on buying a nice expensive bag that can last forever if you're just going to upgrade it because they keep making one that's better?
The good news is that the reseller market is strong! I’ve always been able to find someone to buy Ruckers.

What is the clip you have on the gr1? Doesn’t look like a standard carabiner.
