Hello everyone. If you're watching this, spark plug manufactures apply anti seize coating to their spark plugs already. You really should'nt apply anti seize to the threads, but if you do, be extremely careful when torquing. Torque specs are for dry threads and if you torque to those same specs, you risk stripping out the threads in the head because you are putting more torque into the heads by reducing the friction.
Also, torque wrenches are only accurate above the bottom 15% of their range, so make sure the 10-15 N-M of torque is somewhere near the lower middle of the wrench's range. Electronic do not have this issue and they use sensitive strain gauges. i..e dont use a giant 200 ft-lbs torque wrench for sparkplugs
Good info
Very straightforward video. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. It’s right to the point and easy to follow. Much appreciated!
I try my best to keep the fluff out!
Thanks man you the truth!! I trust watching your videos when ever I work on my Mazda 6!!
Thank you! I try! I’m just glad that my videos are helping people!
Great Video, I liked how you used your hand to install the spark plug, some people show power tools to install screws and socket wrenches to initially install the plugs, which can lead to stripping.
People use power tools to install spark plugs? I couldn't fathom doing that in iron heads, nevertheless aluminum.
Nice. Envious of that clean engine bay!
I try to blow it off and wipe it down every time I wash the car. Take about 10 minutes!
Nicely done. Easy to follow. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
quick and concise video. thank you!
You are welcome! No need to drag out a easy process!
Great video. Thanks for including torque specs. I'll be able to do it myself. Cheers.
Thank you. That was the first time I have torqued spark plugs 😊
Thank you for thorough vid. Just saved me about 250.00
I am glad it helped! It’s very rewarding when you can tackle something like this yourself!
This is a great video. Thank you!
You are welcome!
Great job on this
Thank you. I hope the video helps!
Great video saved me 90 bucks
I called the dealership and they wanted to charge $350 to change the spark plugs out. That is ridiculous.
They want to charge me over $800 in Canada in Canadian dollars! wtf😡
Dealership wants to charge $352.54
Are you serious? Thats Highway Robbery!
Nope. Mine wants that too. It's because they suggest you use the platinum spark plugs. It's the parts that are expensive. Not the labour.
the plugs are about $15 each. thats $60 for 4 spark plus. Thats $300 for labor
@@DariusBuildznah its 50$ a spark plug what are you talking about 🤣😂
I heard Skyactiv does not perform well with those generic NGKs, if you compare them against the MAZDA original ones, the electrode gap is smaller. Each original one is about 27 bucks. So Dealer is charging around 200 bucks labor..
Man I love Mazda.
They are good cars! Mine is approaching 250k now!
@@DariusBuildz wow that’s encouraging to hear! Bought mine brand new off the truck, just passed 80k!
Regular maintenance and a lot of highway miles!
Thanks for this video
Most welcome!
Awesome thank you!
You're welcome!
Great video! Minor correction; this semi does not apply to the Mazda 2.5 turbo engine (mainly CX-9 and some CX-5/CX-30/3s/6s that have that turbo engine.)
That part # from NGK is DILKAR7M8 or Mazda # PY8V18110.
Manual also calls for a 40k mile interval on that turbo engine.
Having owned a few Mazdas with the 2.3L and 2.5L naturally aspirated engine, this turbo requires more maintenance and 93 octane fuel for best performance. Also 5W-30 oil vs the usual 0W-20.
Good info!
But is the process the same, easy on the turbo?
Agreed, but premium here is 91
Excellent 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for the video. Would this procedure be the same for the turbo 2019 cx5 reserve?
Some have said that it’s almost the same procedure but something is slightly different from the comments I’ve read for the turbo models.
@@DariusBuildz ok. thanks. I went to the dealer to today for a fuel pump recall and they reminded me it was time for my plugs at 60000km. I'm in Canada and they quoted me $440. Insane. They told me the part number after I asked for it. I'm going to do it myself since I don't have rocks in my head. The part # given was PY8V18110 so it seems like its the same plug.
Thanks!
Oh man! Thank you so much!!
@@DariusBuildz you deserve it. Well explained and no fluff. Right down to business. Perfect.
would you recommend this same spark plug type for the 2018 Mazda 6?
If it is the non-turbo, yes, as it is the same exact engine.
Hey I see you have probably a chain cover oil leak , I think I have the same problem . THe oil residue on the left of the engine on top of the alternator. I think it is not a big deal yet since it is not a leak . What do you think ?
the dirty spot by the alternator is a mix of valve cover seepage and when the belt tensioner was leaking. If I ever do the valve cover, I'll clean it.
Dealership wants 400+tax to replace mine so will be looking to do it myself
$400 is ridiculous for a pretty easy and non labor intensive job like this
What should I do if the coil pack bolts don’t loosen?
If get have never been off they may be a little corroded, so you may have to give them a little extra force to break them loose
What could I use? Bc the bolt spins but isn’t coming out?
Girl here! Can we get a list of every tool used please? About to make my first solo young adult Home Depot run to attempt to fix my car!!!
👋🏽. Some stuff is in the description. You will also need a 3/8” ratchet, and a 3/8” extension. Spark plugs can be had at your local auto parts store as can the magnetic spark plug socket. Make sure the spark plugs are oem replacements and they should be $13-$14 each and not $5.99.
My spark plugs are partially covered by some sort of faceplate that needs to be removed to access the bolts. Removing this plate and the accompanying wires looks like it will take a lot of deconstruction. I have the 2018 mazda 6 top trim level. Any ideas on how to remove this?
It should be 4 8mm and one 10mm holding down that bracket on top of the coil packs then it should lift up enough to access the bolts on the coil packs. Your coil pack bolts may be held down by 8mm bolts instead of 10mm bolts. You may also have to pull out the vacuum line coming from that top plate to lift it up as well.
Hey
The spark plugs fits also to mazda 2 2016 1.5L?
I am not sure. You will have to consult Mazda, or the auto parts store for the correct spark plug
Hello. I appreciate the video. Very helpful and informative. But NGK94124 spark plug are not for a 2019. So it’s NOT for 2014-21.
The 94124 is indeed for the 2014-2021 NA 2.5. And it’s the OEM Plug minus the mazda logo on it. I’m sorry wherever you got your wrong info but you should look into it a little bit more. You should start at NGK’s website possibly.
Did you experience loss of power by using those Amazon NGK non OEM?
The Mazda plugs are just rebranded ngk plugs. Mazda doesn’t manufacture spark plugs, oil, etc. it’s just rebranded stuff from other manufacturers
Same plugs works for 2.0 Mazda 2018 skyactiv?
I am not sure. You will have to go to ngk’s website and input your car to get the correct plug for your car
Should you take plugs out when the engine is warm, or cold?
Plug manufacturers say cold, but I’ve never had an issue on a car that’s been sitting with the hood up for 30-40 minutes. Your milage may vary so follow the spark plugs manufacturers guidelines
what's that number counter thing next to the engine?
It’s a volt meter
Hey i was checking the size of the socket, when i was checking to buy in amazon it says that I need 14mm socket?
9/16 is roughly 14mm.
Thank you for the video, very helpful👍🏻 got my 2014 mazda 3 gt done, only thing I didn’t do was to to
Put the bolt back after a pulled the coil pack as I was scared that i might drop it in the hole😊.
Nice! I need to get one of those magnet trays for jobs like this
Plus should NEVET be hot when removing them from an aluminum boock engine. The metal swells with heat and you can ruing the threads in the head. Make isre the engone has been sotting overnight and is stone cold.
Also if you use NGK plugs, do NOT use anti seiz they have trivalent plating with acts as anti size coatingm if you use the grease it messes with getting the right torque
So what happens when you take it to a shop to get them changed? It sits maybe 45 minutes and they are changing them out.
@@DariusBuildz they are really risking stripping out the threads on the head is what they are doing . The spark plug manufacturers websites will tell you also to let the engine get cold before removing plugs, ALWAYS. In cast iron heads, warm is fine but not on aluminum.
In all my years I’ve never had an issue with aluminum heads. And majority of people havnt. On paper it make since, but in reality, how many times in the grand scheme of things has it actually made a difference
@@DariusBuildz Ok, There's no reason both the plug and engine manufacturers recommend removing plugs from cold engines with aluminum heads. The anecdotal evidence from you supercedes the advice of those other people. Carry on and good luck
It’s not just me 🙄. It’s literally any and all shops, dealerships and garages. And the manufacturers just list it for legal reasons that way if something does happen that are not held responsible. That clearly does not make it the end all be all
My dealership just quoted me almost $300 as well.
And it’s wild considering it’s not a big job to do.
$337.88 before taxes to be exact. Its just ridiculous!
Don’t try to get by using a 1/2 socket connection if you don’t have a 3/8 connection. Your socket will get stuck in the plug hole
I never tried using a 1/2 socket to do spark plugs on any of my vehicles, but with the 3/8 being so snug, I can see how a 1/2 drive would get stuck.
Adding this here for me later :)
I used Mazda spark plug part number PY8V-18-110
Mazda Spark Plugs are rebranded NGK’s with a higher price 😊
🙏🙏
I hope this video helps you in the future!
Any need to disconnect the battery?
In the workshop manual is says to disconnect the battery, but I have never disconnected the battery to do spark plugs in 20 years. It's up to you if you do, or don't.
but you definitely unplug the coil packs before swapping plugs@@DariusBuildz
Key moment for everyone wanting to do this right. Find out what the correct gap is and gap the plugs. You have to do this. Not doing so ( for Any vehicle according to vehicles specification) can and will cause problems.
Gapping the iridium plugs can and will damage the electrode. These arnt the old school $3 copper plugs. Anyone reading this, do your own research before gapping any iridium or platinum plugs.
Its important check or adjust the gap, you can get it on the user manual
I don't suggest checking the gap on iridium plugs. That's a easy way to mess up the electrode. Small variations in gaps are fine since they are so efficient.
what a voltage meeter U have on the right side ?
Got it from Amazon: amzn.to/3tTrXRE
@@DariusBuildz ok . its all time running and getting power from battery ? or switch off after few time ?
its on all the time they way I have it setup running directly to the battery
Thanks
No problem!
URGENT ‼️ I am not able to insert 4th pipe(from left) in right now. It does not sit properly no matter what . I tired 100 times and it’s not sitting. Please help !
You mean the 4th spark plug?
Hi. Im here to ask about the tools you used here. I'm sorry I know you are already saying the tools you are using but Im not an english speaker and also not familiar of different english accent. This is hard for me to understand specially when you were saying the tools u are using 😂 I'm sorry. Please help. Thank you.
I have a link in the description for the magnetic spark plug socket. The coil pack
Bolts are 10mm.
@@DariusBuildz thank you
could you recommand NGK Spark Plungs for mazda CX 5 2500cc skyactive 2015 ?
It should be the same spark plugs as it should be the same 2.5L Skyactiv engine in my car.
@@DariusBuildz thanks you i will try this to my car.
what is your sparks plugs still running fine after 2 years use or how many miles you use this sparks plugs ?
@@musthofakamalsyarani7250 your owner's manual will list the exact replacement spark plug for your car. The iridium plugs generally last about 100,00mi.
At the mazda dealer rn, they want $447 for parts and labor
Oh my. Thats wild they want almost $450
Original Mazda plugs are from $27-$36 depending from which dealer you buy it from. I will personally stick with the original ones, the electrode gap is smaller vs.NGK. I also read many comments saying those NGK does not work well and have issues. If you are doing it yourself, suggest you to buy original ones (with the Mazda logo)
