To properly check fluid level: fluid temp. 122 degrees Fahrenheit engine running. The stick will read considerably higher without the engine running. When the engine is running it's pumping fluid up into the transmission and torque converter lowering the level in the pan. The stick is marked for a running engine. The fluid temp. Is also vital. The temp. changes the fluid vescosity. Temperature makes a huge difference when checking levels. Mazda transmissions are good but you must follow specs. This fill is likely low. Follow the service manual!
l would have cleaned off the old RTV from the transmission housing as well. It would suck if the pan would start to leak after all that effort. Also, I buy the original ATF FZ from Ravenol. The Liqui Moly stuff isn't exactly specified for the Skyactiv FW6 transmission.
No, it is harder because of the RTV silicon that you need to apply on the pan. Also, it is difficult to detach the pan. For me I feel Toyota is the easiest

Hi, I know Skyactiv transaxle there are manufacturing in Thailand and Japan(not sure), but I never know before the original filter part why must be USA only. But the price no expensive ( In Thailand). Thanks for your VDO.
yes, they can be problems if you mix different transmission fluids AND the wrong spec fluid will not work optimally in the transmission. Yes, it initially hurts buying 5qts of Mazda fluid, but you have peace of mind knowing it's the right fluid; no chemistry project mixing in additives to convert the wrong spec fluid
This is why I l like gear box tranny easy to change fluid. Cvt transmission it’s complicated and no room for error. Otherwise it’s going to cost you grip if mess up this procedure.
Everything was superb. Only thing I saw wrong was using a nipple to refill the fluid. What made you use the RTV gasket maker over buying a filter with a rubber gasket? Seems like you are creating work for yourself when you change it next time.
The "filter" doesn't have a gasket, it snaps into place with O-ring then 2 x 10mm bolts. The gasket maker for the pan is O.E.M. far better sealing that old school rubber gaskets that degrade over time.

great video. I think you'd save some time with removing the air box again and checking the level after the job and everything if you simply measure what came out and put that amount back in. Assuming there's no leaks that would have led to a loss in the oil level.
I just bought a new pan for this job they're really cheap. Also you should have cleaned the old rtv off the transmission. I bet you that pan is going to leak. Lastly there is no compatible fluids for this transmission other than the OEM Mazda FZ fluid plus if you use something else you're mixing fluids as only about half the transmissions full capacity is drained this way.
You still can change it, if your transmission have no problems changing the fluid will not cause any. If it already have shifting or slipping problems changing fluid might fix them or make them worse.
You could go crazy with cleaning that, but might risk it scratching the metal either in the pan on the engine side and then deal with seal issues. The left RTV is only thin layer on the surface. No leaks at all.
Hi, i have this situation, Mazda 6 , 2014 automatic, i drive 60 km/h , i stop accelerating and then i push the gas pedal again, doing this i feel a play between transmision and wheels and also a noise' clunk' . Is this normal?
Sounds like you have a very similar situation as with my 2003 Ford Explorer 4.0L SOHC. Let up on the gas, then give it some gas and hear the clunka-clunk sound. It's definitely something you should look into. Perhaps the tranny needs a partial rebuild at worst case, or just some more fluid at best.
I got a question i got a 2015 mazda 6 transmission with 141000 miles. My transmission is still working fine never done a transmission change on the vehicle. Is it to late to do a transmission oil change with fiter change. Is it worth it.
Doubt it. I'm doing mine at 120,000 miles. I believe only older American made cars have issues changing the trans fluid late. Japanese cars are built built the best so I doubt you will have issues.
if you have no issue with the transmission so far, changing the fluid won't create an issue. but if you already have slip or harsh shifting, fluid change might fix it or make it worse.
It’s only a couple of bolts extra and you get to install a new filter as well. I would recommend putting the extra effort when working with transmissions.
no, you do not need to drop the transmission pan; however, w/o dropping the pan, you can't change the transmission filter. Also, w/o dropping the pan, you will only be exchanging a partial amount of the fluid (even less than if you drop the pan, but still not all 8 qts). If you don't drop the pan, in my opinion, you would need to drain, then refill the exact amount...then drive for 10-15 miles and drain again and refill the exact amount to get the most new fluid in and the most old fluid out. The main benefit of NOT dropping the pan is having to replace the rtv gasket. The drawbacks are you can't change the filter, clean up the inside of the pan and magnet, and you use twice as much transmission fluid if you do the drain/fill cycle twice. Even getting 4-5 qts of new fluid in is better than none, but you have to realize the remaining 50% is the older fluid.
Is it necessary to wait 24 hours to pour the tyranny fluid? I've seen multiple mechanics just wait the 1 hour make sure it seals then they pour the fluid. After pouring the fluid its then recommended to let the car sit for 24 hour so that the seal can cure. Or do I have to wait 24 hours like you did to then pour the fluid?

Transmissions are sensitive parts, they don’t deal with combustion which makes them a bit complicated to be diagnosed for problems. Dealerships assumes that because there is no combustion no need to do fluid service on that and transmissions should be kept sealed. Also, when there is a high mileage on the transmission, there might be wear on the clutches and clutches material are just closing the gaps, by doing fluid change you are exposing all those gaps and transmission might act crazy or need rebuild. If you are having no issues with the transmission and not very high mileage, go ahead and do the service.
... it is a liability thing. Once they crack the transmission pan, all responsibilities are on them/the tech. Also, Mazda specs the fluid as 'lifetime', so there is no provision to change the fluid. Same goes for the rear diff (on AWD CX-5). If the trans and diff are ever submerged under water, then by all means, change the fluid. Again, it is a dealership liability issue.
