Heard them at the North Van Rec Centre circa 1973. Very impressive! (and I'd already attended concerts featuring the Beatles, Stones and the Chicago Transit Authority among others)
Let's start a credible organization that truly represents the greats of Rock and Roll. The RR Hall of fame is just a guy who has no merit, just political and personal views.
I feel The Guess Who is one of the more under appreciated bands from the their era. Of course, there's alot of those. But, they're the type that can put together a studio quality sounds at a live performance. There's alot of depth, alot of layers to peel back out of their arrangements. Great band.
I’m an American kid that grew up in Seattle during this period. This country had it’s share of great 70’s music that I enjoyed. But damn I loved these guys and especially Burton with that strong, silky voice. One of a kind! Thank you Canada.
Lady Suzette Burton Cummings once said he was frustrated because he had been lead singer on 20 million record sales and yet never had his name on a vinyl record
I can see that there may be those who might consider him among the greatest singers of all time. I can hear his voice singing without notice and pick it as him immediately. To say he is not among the greatest would be just plain wrong.
So proud to be Canadian. So proud to be an American. So proud to be dual, a half breed. Thank you dad (Toronto). Thank you mom (New York City). Came to this site due to the PBS special, The Vietnam War. Fabulous work coordinated by Ken Burns. The music throughout the documentary was spot on perfect. These songs are part of history. Part of forever. I was born in 1960 and feel so blessed to have lived through these years. Both the good and the bad. To have been exposed to this type of sound. To stories and feelings expressed musically. Powerful.
The BEST LINEUP!!! I've listened to this album back in the '70s until my ears bled, then cranked it up to #10 on my 33/13rd record player before I listened to HUMBLE PIE!!!
I'm from Syracuse New York and I've been listening to these guys for decades. I was fortunate enough to see them at the State Fair. They're still rocking and sound just as good as ever!😊
The REAL Guess Who, not those pretenders that are currently touring. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and this is sound that will forever be locked into my brain. No upstart cover band will ever touch the sound that these guys own, both the vocals and the music. Thank You Burton Cummings for being you!❤🤘🎤🎸🥁
Amen to that! I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I remember when "Share the Land" was released. My older brother brought it home. Instant hit! I seriously remember painting my own Guess Who poster and taping it to my bedroom window so people passing by would see it! They made me proud to be a Canadian.

One of my favorite bands of all time! Simply put there will never be music like this again. I was blessed to been raised in a time when real music was being made. They should be in the RR hall of fame!
Great song, great performance. Burton Cummings, a most unique voice and talent of the times. All band musicians providing BG vocals. Rare. Historic. A song about peace and brotherhood. Thanks Guess Who,
I was born 40 years to late only to hear the crap that is most of today's talentless music. My generation needs bands like guess who, these guys are amazing!
If anyone is wondering, Its Burton Cummings on Piano, Jim Kale on Bass, Gary Peterson on drums, Greg Leskiw( black hair) guitar and the late great Kurt Winter on lead guitar.
ShaolinDragon93 No, Randy left the group in very early 1970. This song was released in Oct 1970 so I would guess this clip would be over the winter of 70/71.
Great performance. Perfect harmonies by them while also playing their respective instruments. And near as I could see, they were not lipsyncing with a recording. Takes a bunch of talent to be able to do that.
I am in absolute awe of how good this group holds up live. Groups spend dozens, sometimes hundreds of takes on a song, and all the perfect parts are spliced together into a perfect studio track. And here these average-looking guys just absolutely kill a live version. What rare, unreal talent!
Wow, look at Burton Cummings and all that hair! They're all so young; this must be one of their very earliest shows. I also noticed he's not hitting the highs as with the studio version. I wonder why?
It got a lot of play. The Guess Who were an AM AND FM band-they made great singles and got kind of dismissed as not a together rock band. They were excellent writers and musicians.
Burton Cummings has for decades been at the top of my list of the greatest rock vocalists. Listen to this guy's range, power and dynamic ability. There may be others that are about as good, but none better. I'm from Seattle USA, not Canada but I am Grateful for all the amazing Canadian musicians (been a Rush fanatic since 1976).
In a complicated world of chaos, we need to bring back the great songs that have a vision and a dream and to do what it takes to fulfill the dream.... For peace and harmony. The Guess Who shared this vision in song.

This is from the Johnny Cash Show, I remember being allowed to stay up later just to see this, and being glued to the TV. Great Performance by the best version of the band.
makes me homesick for the northland every time i see this..damn, burton could sing the shit outta this. ps...F the R&R Hall of Shame. Who needs their lame 'validation'.
danielbooneify Yes one day somebody put fecal matter in a disk drive, hit go and out came the first piece of rapcrap. Rap is non musical 4/4 talentless computer loop generated garbage.
Teresa67 Factoid true music lovers can respect all types of music like i do and just fyi rap is 40 years old before computer looped garbage was even invented. However not a fan of todays rap no need to take a good song hun and turn it into a rap thing lol
danielbooneify Rap is not music. Music is played by musicians. Rap is generated by:.........anyone with a $29.95 walmart keyboard, and some brain-dead "poetard" rhyming into a mike. Music and rap are mutually exclusive, one cannot be the other by definition. Rap is crap. Full stop.
Teresa67 Factoid well i study music and theory and i have to disagree usually people with no musical ability are the biggest critics. Not saying you but in general. I personally know many musical people that are very much into hip hop and rap. ITS ALL PART OF THE BIG PUZZLE. DO I LIKE OPERA? NO BUT CAN I RESPECT IT YES.... FREE YOUR MIND
I went out of my way to thumb down this video for one reason and one reason only... because of you! It's self-appointed pukes like you that think their taste in music is god-given and infallible that make the rest of us want to reach through the screen and wring your scrawny little neck. I'll bet there would be a lot fewer thumbs down if you climbed up out of your mother's basement and kept your arrogant opinions to yourself. Certainly among my all-time favorite bands and rock and roll voices but I'll thumbs them down just to piss you off!
A completely live performance for a Johnny Cash TV show, I believe. Bands today use recorded music in concert today. Pop music has gone to hell from these days.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steppenwolf_(band) Steppenwolf is a Canadian-American rock band, prominent from 1968 to 1972. The group was formed in late 1967 in Los Angeles by lead singer John Kay, keyboardist Goldy McJohn, and drummer Jerry Edmonton (all formerly in Jack London & the Sparrows from Oshawa, Ontario). Guitarist Michael Monarch and bass ...
Burton and the Guess Who are both frightfully underrated! The were great live and could do amazing covers of other band's songs! There were quite a few stellar Canadian bands in their day, but to me Guess Who was the best!
GREAT, GIGANTIC, EXCEPTIONAL, OUTSTANDING, SUPERB ....... THE GUESS WHO!! HERE MY ALL TIME FAVORITE OF THEIR FANTASTIC SONGS: SHARE THE LAND!!! with the unique voice of BURTON CUMMINGS!!!
Great performance; just like the studio recording. Thanks for sharing this video. I agree with Dave White; that is not Randy Bachman on lead guitar. It is Kurt Winter. Greg Leskiw is the other guitarist.
It was banned in Texas and a couple of southern states for having “leftist leanings.” Bernie Sanders is saying far worse things today, all I was saying was we should share the land. We close our shows with that song now. It's just really meant as an optimistic statement about the future.
I just want all the Canadians to vote for for Trump in our upcoming election.......I know you are blown away by that statement but think about what the Dems want all the illegals to do.
What immense talent. Burton Cummings. Randy Bachman. I identify with the vocals and the guitar because I do that. The entire band is like WOW. The songwriting is great. Hit after hit. Some say its pop and Top 40. I like it, especially this song
Burton Cummings had one of the greatest, and most unique soulful voices in rock, period.
Totally agree. 💯
I so agree! One of the very best!!
agreed. 100%
Agreed! Perfect....
Stand Tall. Yes he has the voice.
One of the few bands who could actually play live and sound just like their record. Great band!
Absolutely 💯
I totally agree!
Heard them at the North Van Rec Centre circa 1973. Very impressive! (and I'd already attended concerts featuring the Beatles, Stones and the Chicago Transit Authority among others)
You're absolutely right on brother. But in the swinging sixties hippies didn't like The Guess Who and the Beatl
Led Zeppelin couldn't, they sounded awful live.
To the 590 who disliked this song: you don’t know real music. Period.
Nathaniel Mack Agree.
They Swifties and Beiberettes.
How could Anybody Not like this song/band?!?! That’s just Wrong.😢 (or maybe they’re just Babies that never knew what Good music was! 🤷♀️ ✌️😊
Let’s get the Guess Who nominated to the R&R Hall of Fame in ‘22. It’s a crime that this seminal R&R band isn’t there already
Let's start a credible organization that truly represents the greats of Rock and Roll. The RR Hall of fame is just a guy who has no merit, just political and personal views.
@@ericstandefer9138 exactly
@@knk4ever83 Madonna's in the RR Hall of Fame & the Guess Who is not, maybe they should call it the Bullshit Hall of fame. . .
RR HOF is a joke
I totally agree they need to be in the rock and roll Hall of Fame ❤
This song... Burton's voice and piano, the backup vocals, the subtle bass, the guitar solos and the fantastic drums..all make a perfect song.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sucks not having this band in it.
they can induct rap band s but not thing legendary canadian rock band
come on Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this doesn't add up
The first 8 words of your comment was sufficient.
Amen
Yeah them and Chicago
Yes, unbelievable !!!
Should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame!
I guess they don`t want to pay the 10,000 dollars it costs
I agree with you Christopher...
The "Hall of Shame" is a f*cking joke...the list of great musicians not inducted, and the list of nobodies who are, is beyond contempt.
So should JGEILES band.
They should have been inducted at least 15 years ago. Shame.
I feel The Guess Who is one of the more under appreciated bands from the their era. Of course, there's alot of those. But, they're the type that can put together a studio quality sounds at a live performance. There's alot of depth, alot of layers to peel back out of their arrangements. Great band.
Collin Morris could NOT agree more! 🙌🏽🙏🏽
Collin Morris well said!!
Amanda 6nyFa.mmlml
i absolutely agree. i saw them in a cabaret show in Reno and it was incredible. Burton Cummings wasnt with them but they were still incredible.
Collin Morris their still good

Your Welcome.......from Winnipeg.
Burton Cummings has the most unique voice I've ever heard and The Guess Who's hits wouldn't have been the same without him.

He does.
That ending though. Gave me chills. One of the greatest harmonies ever. Rock n Roll hall of fame missing these guys.

It got a lot of play. The Guess Who were an AM AND FM band-they made great singles and got kind of dismissed as not a together rock band. They were excellent writers and musicians.
This whole album was brilliant - even some well played jazz on it.
I always loved the guitar solo. Better on the actual recording than it is here.

God we had it so right back then. Why did so many turn away from such a brilliant philosophy?
Because people are greedy and selfish...
and because we have too many diferent nationalities living in our country these days and also folks just dont care now days

That they'll be givin' away
When we all live together
I'm talkin' 'bout together now
Maybe I'll be there to shake your hand
Maybe I'll be there to share the land
That they'll be givin' away

Can you play their games
Without losin' track and comin' down a bit too hard
Oh
Maybe I'll be there to shake your hand
Maybe I'll be there to share the land
That they'll be givin' away
When we all live together
I'm talkin' 'bout together now
Maybe I'll be there to shake your hand
Maybe I'll be there to share the land

Teresa67 Factoid true music lovers can respect all types of music like i do and just fyi rap is 40 years old before computer looped garbage was even invented. However not a fan of todays rap no need to take a good song hun and turn it into a rap thing lol

Rap is not music.
The band was really giving everything they had. You could see it in the harmonies. Great live performance
83 dislikes are selfish people who never share anything.
No... they are not of this time and do not know what real music is.
@@GTGTO-su8bp I'm not of this time period. My parents were just kids, but I love the guess who, the message, and the music ❤️
@@darrelcarmichael8114 you must be fun at parties
these guys not one hit wonders
This clip of music and visuals is a Canadian Treasure and Beyond! Thanks for posting!!
548 people who down thumbed this video are confused. That is the only explanation in my world LOL
Loving this song in 2019
Great song! Boy could Burton sing!!!
A completely live performance for a Johnny Cash TV show, I believe. Bands today use recorded music in concert today. Pop music has gone to hell from these days.
How old was Burton Cummings here? Man can't be more than 20?
The Guess Who, BTO, and The Band... three great Canadian bands.
Negus Negast steppenwolf was an American band!!
Conservative America singer is Canadian
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steppenwolf_(band)
Steppenwolf is a Canadian-American rock band, prominent from 1968 to 1972.
PabloCruise91 you do realize the guess who and BTO are basically the same band
Ernie Gomez because they share 1 member? How does that make them the same band
I love the lead singer's voice and hair...
***** OMFG that is the funniest thing that you said there. *Justin Beaver*, they should make a commemorative postage stamp out of that.
Burton Cummings! Great voice!
+Craig Winter And Randy Bachman on the Strat :)
+Joey Herring I didn't realize that Randy Bachman helped to form The Guess Who. That's cool.
Joey Herring , You are absolutely correct sir! BTO! Also, the father of Tai Bachmann("She's So High")
Great lyrics, great band, Burton sings the heck out of hit, and Canada begins to find a national pop-culture identity.
HOF are you listening?
great song please check out The Guess Who - Share the Land Album Review on my channel
One of the greatest voices in rock.
Saw him last summer in Detroit, he even retweeded me. HIS VOICE STILL SOUNDS THE SAME.
Now that's real music-brought tears to my eyes
"smiling, laughing...digging each other"
Amen.
Love it
I have loved his voice my entire youth to now ❤
One of the best bands ever ! I'm 69 and I'm still listening to them. ☺️❤️
This group sounds every bit as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. Such talent is so rare.
Burton and the Guess Who are both frightfully underrated! The were great live and could do amazing covers of other band's songs! There were quite a few stellar Canadian bands in their day, but to me Guess Who was the best!
great voice
GREAT, GIGANTIC, EXCEPTIONAL, OUTSTANDING, SUPERB ....... THE GUESS WHO!! HERE MY ALL TIME FAVORITE OF THEIR FANTASTIC SONGS: SHARE THE LAND!!! with the unique voice of BURTON CUMMINGS!!!
My first concert, how lucky was I!!!! :-)
My sister 1st concert too..Garfield park in indy
Tell your sis she is LUCKY. B. INGROFF KIND!
Great performance; just like the studio recording. Thanks for sharing this video. I agree with Dave White; that is not Randy Bachman on lead guitar. It is Kurt Winter. Greg Leskiw is the other guitarist.
Class act!!!!!
It was banned in Texas and a couple of southern states for having “leftist leanings.” Bernie Sanders is saying far worse things today, all I was saying was we should share the land. We close our shows with that song now. It's just really meant as an optimistic statement about the future.
Man, no studio fluff here! These guys are flat out musicians!!!!!!!! Pure talent!
I just want all the Canadians to vote for for Trump in our upcoming election.......I know you are blown away by that statement but think about what the Dems want all the illegals to do.
No autotune with this group
+Ralph Christ Yep, no autotune. Back then is pure talent.
What immense talent. Burton Cummings. Randy Bachman. I identify with the vocals and the guitar because I do that. The entire band is like WOW. The songwriting is great. Hit after hit. Some say its pop and Top 40. I like it, especially this song
