Don't be so hasty. There is great music today too - just as much. You are hand-picking some of the best music of the era. There was a shit ton of actual crap then too.
This song and many others like it got me through basic training and AIT in the summer of 69 .. Shipped off to Nam in Dec 69 and thought I'd never hear it again.. but here I am in 2021 and still listening to it.. AWESOME
Glad you made it back, much respect, thank you for your service.

I miss the 60s more.
Not much.
I grew up in Cleveland, home of RHOF, and I'm ashamed that this talented group isn't in the Hall They deserve to be there. I will never understand it. So many hits.
Clevelander too…..it’s an embarrassment to the RRHOF. And Cleveland
RRHOF is just made up for the owners to make money yes? Steve Miller is still pissed yes?
I consider the RRHOF a bit of a joke. Think of all the great artists and bands who are not included, and it's staggering. Jethro Tull, Soundgarden, Motorhead, Joe Cocker, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and of course, The Guess Who. The excuse given most often for the exclusion The Guess Who is that they were too commercial, and focused mostly on AM radio hits. Yet the Hall includes such artists are Abba, The Beach Boys and Blondie, all artists known primarily for the AM hits. Plus, to call it the ROCK and ROLL Hall of Fame, and include such artists as Joan Baez, Harry Belafonte, Nat King Cole, and Neil Diamond, makes the whole thing a bit of a farce. Unless you consider "Song Sung Blue" a Rock Classic, then there is absolutely no hope for you.
They probably get the shaft because they're a Canadian rock band. That's the only reason I can think of why they continue to get snubbed by the RRHOF.
I think the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame only focuses on hard rock
How did we get from this best of times to the current worst of times? God save America.

Burton Cummings is one of the most talented musicians and singers of all-time. Guess Who should be in that joke Rock Hall of Fame along with Grand Funk Railroad, Humble Pie and Ten Years After
An actual band that can play and has a song. Unheard of today. So beautiful.
And they don't need a sound booth to make them sound good, they sound as good live as they do in a recording studio......
This stuff today has no soul.

That 🎵 is Beautiful.
Burton Cummings co-wrote and recorded this song when he was just 19 years old. Think about that kiddos. No computers. No auto-tune. No software program BS. Just a pen and paper and a voice and actual instruments and a brain. It's amazing what human beings can accomplish when they are challenged instead of handed a crutch and sold victimhood :) . Yeah, you won't hear music of this quality being created ever again, unless somehow someone creates artificial intelligence capable of human emotion and talent...
One of the top voices in the Rock Industry.

Best comment on YT....and true taboot!!
c'mon every generation says that...Elvis and Kiss were the "end of the world" when they emerged
@@andrefecteau No, this is different, I'm sorry. I recognize your point, and yes, every generation complains about the ones that follow. But the music industry, imo, truly has made a major shift away from the *culture* of music, to a sterile, forumulaic world where profits not only trump creativity (that was arguably always the case), but have displaced it. The complaints about Elvis and Kiss were content related. My complaint is more fundamental. There are no more Guess Who's, Grateful Deads, Joan Baez's, Bill Monroe's... I could go on for pages. Live music and quality creative works can be found, on the outskirts, on tiny indie labels or the occasional offbeat venue. That's about it. And I see no light at the end of this tunnel.
@@andrefecteau Given the state of "Popular" music now-a-days I'd say this sentiment rings true. But my assessment comes from the mind of a jaded music fan who adores the classics so take it with a grain of salt :)

I have just turned 70 so grew up with this stuff. Saw the Beatles at Festival Hall in Brisbane in 1964(I was 13). Loved the music back then but never really thought too much about it. It was just there. I have only just discovered Burton Cummings(hard to believe, I know) and this song has now rocketed to the top of the list as my favourite song. It is only now that I can appreciate just how talented these artists are. Can you imagine Justin Bieber still being around as long as these people?

The bands first gold single reached # 6 on Billboard in April of 1969 . This song almost never came to be if not for producer Jack Richardson . He mortgaged his home in order to get the group to RCA studios in New York to record These Eyes in late 1968 . We never new about this very " gutsy move " as Burton puts it until years afterword . This action by record producer Jack Richardson turned into a 14 album recording association with the Guess Who and RCA . From their first ( RCA ) single These Eyes and album Wheatfield Soul through the(LP) Power In The Music released in July of 1975 . After a finial 60 city tour Burton left the Guess Who in September of 1975 .

I was 13 when this sobg came out in 1969 and recall remember the 45 RPM record I used to play and heard it all the time on the radio in 1969 ! Always had my own radio age 11 and 12 I had a radio that had wires and headphones and a grey small radio age 12 to 15 had Mom and Dads radio from 9 or 10 till I was 12 years old ! Had a portable radio age 15 and a round ball type one too age 15 to 18 !
Songs like this carry the memories and wonder of my youth. They gave me insights for living through many of life’s firsts, and a language to think/sing about my experiences while ‘growing up.’ They resonated with the forces of my budding youth and my emergence into an adulthood. They were messages of curiosity (many quite philosophical); of idealism and disappointment; of love and rejection; of the libido for risk, trouble and discovery.

Hi Cheryl , How are you doing?
Wow. I came to listen to a good song and made the mistake of reading comments. You guys need to realize that music didn't begin or end in the 60's and 70s. There was great music before and after. Just because it's what was popular when you were young doesn't make it the be all end all of musical history. I love that music and it's impact is undeniable, but nobody can be paul or mick or roger or jimi or Janice forever. Styles of art change and evolve. Always have and always will. It's not the millenials fault or the zoomers. It's just life. You don't have to like it but quit making things out to be bad or somehow detrimental to the art form just because it's not what was on the top 20 in the 70s or 60s. That is why you will hear kids say "ok boomer" just like how you would roll your eyes at older people complaining about rock and roll when you were younger. Life is beautiful. Embrace it and live the message you spread around back then. All we need is love.
This music, regardless will always be relevant, no one will remember current music, but they will always remember music like this.
@bluesman0903 How can you be so bold to assume something like that? I don't think the music of the early 60's is any more Relevant now than anything else. Relevant is defined as "appropriate to the current time, period, or circumstances; of contemporary interest." Now, take a look at what the top trending music over the last year is. The last five years. The last ten years. Where is the "Relevance" you speak of? Influence sure. But not Relevance. There hasn't been a number one rock song that made a huge impact in a long, long time. Country and hip hop are far more relevant currently. I love the music of the 60's and 70's. I know how important to the story of American music it is. It is not the only important music in the history of American music though. That would be the music that came from Apalachia back in the 1800's that gave birth to blues, country and rock and roll. The 60's were part of it. Everything was part of it until now. As time goes on the greatest from each generation will be celebrated and the older an artist becomes, the less relevant to the current sound they also become. Because that's how art works. More people recognize a picture of taylor swift right now than a picture of Robert plant. And in 30 years that will still be true. But at that time, more people will recognize what's popular then than they will taylor swift. And so on. That's what Relevance is all about.
@@johnny5fingers0966 I don't think it's a bold statement at all, I think it's 100% correct. In today's music you don't even have to know how to play an instrument and still make a record with the assistance of modern technology. A band like Zeppelin never used auto tune, they were true musicians, and not wanna bes.
@@johnny5fingers0966 I couldn't pick Taylor Swift out of a lineup, nor do I care to.
@bluesman0903 you know Led Zeppelin has been sued and lost in court repeatedly for plagiarism, right? They stole music blatantly from other musicians and never gave credit or compensation. I love Led Zeppelin, but it's a bad example. And if you're on UA-cam or pay attention to music or even the media in any way, you know who taylor Swift is. And if you dont, the world has left you behind. You can't re live the past. You have to embrace the future. Artists in the past used studio musicians just the same as today. I study music studio and recording along with the history of american and english recorded music quite a bit, and I will tell you confidently that a top selling artist with zero talent isn't a new phenomenon. Look at the writing credits on songs. It's not uncommon. Ai can write songs for artists now, but what's the difference? If the person posing to be the songwriter didn't write it? Sure, someone wrote it, but what impact does it have really? A sham is a sham. Industry created bands and artists have always existed. As far as nobody remembering current music, just look to the next generation. The future. Take a bunch of 18 year Olds and ask them all to point to a picture of janis joplin, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, etc. Or name a song. About 5 out of ten can do it accurately. Give them a list of musicians that have been popular in the last 10 years, and I bet you get close to 100%. There's your evidence. The ones that are interested in music history will seek it. The rest are product of environment and what they encounter every day.
