I was hoping you would build the 6 banger, since almost everyone goes with a crooked 8 LOL
Take the heads off because you will end up with a rebuild gasket kit anyways. Then you can really clean it up and check piston wall clearance. etc. Trust me it doesnt take long and you will need head bolts because they are torque to yield.
Take the balancer to get it balaced, believe me its well worth it. If you run Hyper eutectic pistons dont rev it over 6000 rpms. Your stock rods are actually quite strong and the vortec heads flow way better than the old camel hump heads. Change the valve springs and have them check for coil bind with your new cam.
Mook,
You’ve got to take the Snowmobile Car to the local grocery store!
Film the reaction of loading the groceries an pull starting the car.
Mook, I see your cat's name is Hobbes. I used to have a serval named Hobbes.
I love mooks energy like there’s no not smiling when watching her
It's easy when you're young and healthy. I felt that way, too when I was her age.
@@patrickamcguire8749 i mostly never smiled or have been energic.. :/ and now im 25...
@@MrBanaanipommi I'm 53 and bounce around! Look, when we run, we place our foot on the ground and push with our muscles and its tiring. When the Japanese run they float and merely tap the ground to move forward - try it, suddenly running is easy. Its a state of mind. Your body is the manifestation of your energy so sort your energy out and the body follows! Ommm... its free and lasts a life time, best of luck! :o)
P.S. And I live in miserable, cold, miserable, wet, miserable f*cking Britain!!!
What I would not give up to have a good ole fashion farm girl like Mook... I am still at a loss for her real first name...
Come back, we miss you! 🙏🏼
I've been dealing with extreme stress, depression, and anxiety quite a bit and watching junkyard digs and this actually helps quite a bit.
Same. Agreed 💯.
Me also pimp. I did find a 1970 Mercedes’ Benz 220D to start restoring. I was told in therapy that a hobby might help me out. So that will be my first project. With little to no experience 😬
same here! wonder why, lol!
Same. I have been going through a hard time and their videos help me relax
Get up,get out and do something and find a meaning with in yourself.
I would like a part 4 please :)
Yeah! What happened to part 4?? 😮
Yea still waiting Did you change your mind
@@Music32ist still waiting
You guys are the last of the quality entertainment left on the planet. Just 2 goof balls recording themselves being, themselves. I fckin love it.
Mook, you’re just plain awesome. Who else would combine an engine teardown with a hot sauce challenge?
I haven't even watched the video yet, and now I'm excited
The Hot Sauce segment was an awesome surprise, that was a great idea to include it. As a viewer of Hot Ones, I found it to be highly entertaining, you totally nailed the spirit of their shows. Thanks for the great content.
Does anything warm your heart more than a wonderful young lady who knows her way around a wrench!! RESPECT!!!
Kind of
Watching Mook eat hot sauce has to be one of the best comedy routines I've seen in a long time!
it's been a long while since i've done a hot sauce challenge, i suspect answering questions gets more air passing thru the sinuses and spreads the pain around a lil' bit more :)
After hours of watching nothing but the worsening news coming out from the Ukraine, this was just what I needed. Thank's Mook and Kevin.👍
You guys are a kick.in the pants really enjoyed the video keep it up
I don’t think it’s worsening news
@@chuckschob107 it’s bad news if your Russian lol
Don't watch that Shit, Dude! Bad for your mind worrying about shit you can't do anything about.
Too bad those in Ukraine can't just change the channel
Always a good day when mook uploads
Yes, I have been waiting for another Nova fix from Mook!
Mook, I really enjoyed our time together. It's been about 40 years since I was elbow deep in blocks, heads, valves, cams, I remember just how much fun I had back then!!! Enjoy that Nova, I would if i could!!!
We need more Mook, and more burnt Chevy!!!! You guys are great!
Ya this channel has been around for a minute. Great fun. And you have enough for binge watching.
This was actually pretty relaxing. The sound of the shop heater running in the background, the goofy banter, and just wrenching on stuff.
As someone who loves trying new hot sauces too I loved this video😂. I feel your pain Mook! Would've been epic had Kevin's last question been a proposal! 🤣😂
I have been wondering when he's going to pop the question. If he hasnt already.
Time for Kevin to put a ring on it!!
@@mozzle1250 I hope he films the proposal cos I'm sure all their fans would love to see Mooks reaction. And me.
@@jmasonrcingabout273 I thought they were already married!
Mook gotta say I give you credit for sitting in the engine bay while doing the hot sauce challenge, cause I know I’d never be able to sit there and do that. I’ve had to many episodes where the hot sauce has turned my insides into molten lava, and I need the quickest line to the washroom. Can’t wait for the next instalment of the Spicy Nova, Booger Truck, The 89 or the dump truck.
Mook and Kevin, gotta say you guys have given me some pointers. Much appreciated. Currently doing a teardown of a 65' mustang coupe. Literally found it in the junkyard. Needs a lot of work. Whole front end, floor pan, and interior. Ill definitely be checking out QA1 for some parts.
I quite like the fact that Mook's style of humour gives Kevin license to be a bit more silly than he is on his channel. He seems more relaxed and is clearly having fun with this.
The hot sauce had me laughing so hard, by the end of the taste test Mooks face color matched the burnt Nova paint.
Keep up the awesome content, can’t get enough. 👍🏻
The really bad part will come tomorrow when all of that sauce has to exit! Where do you think Johnny Cash got the inspiration for his famous "Ring of Fire"? I agree with Mook that the best tasting is the real Louisiana Hot Sauce. I use that on almost everything but ice cream!
Don't torture women.
Dang
Love the shows, great content guys. Kevin those plugs are actually the factory plugs. Ignition system was moving towards the 100,000 mile tune up aspiration’s. Great ignition system and very simple. It is actually designed for those plugs. Just wanted to help you out sir. I’m a 15u also active duty about to retire. Worked in a GM dealership when I was younger. Keep the Pontiac and Nova content coming brother.
so when will part 4 be here?
The hot sauce segment is absolutely hilarious. Mook, you are a trooper!
I hope the machining of your block and heads is not going to take four million years, looking forward to seeing that engine back all shiny.
Quite a classy seat to do the segment in, the Nova engine bay XD
Tis a better throne than any kings of yore! :P
You should keep old driveshaft yokes from as many different transmissions as you can and label them for what transmission they come from, then when you have to remove a transmission simply put a yoke in the end of it tie-wire it to tail housing and no more messes to clean up, also if you order a new or rebuilt transmission they come with plastic plugs keep them as well!
That is ideal, I often use a spray paint cap and 100mph tape
Part 4? WE NEED CLOSURE!
Just discovered you guys the other day and have been watching several of your videos. I love the will it run type of shows and have enjoyed the progress on this Nova. I laughed so hard when you read the "firing order" Im currently working on a 72 GMC truck and hope to get it running soon! Keep up the awesome content!!
This is why I love classics, they have a roomy engine bay, parts o'plenty, affordable to a point and aren't a ratnest of unnecessary wires.
Kevin dancing in his merch properly made me chuckle.
I've just seen Pole Barn Garage callout the the Spicy Nova for a drag race! Hope you win 😉
So its been approximately two years and counting since you two worked on this.
I'm starting to wonder if this car will ever get finished. I keep looking for new videos on this but nothing.
In fact Mooks channel hasn't had any activity in quit some time.
It'll be nice to see her working on cars again. Especially with her sense of humor.
Kevin: Did you drop anything down the intake
Also Kevin, literally minutes before: free throws 16 bolts down the throttle body. 😂

So Close Kevin
Nooo,I'm the first one here
Fifth I guess. Love your content guys, peace!
😂😂
Dammit
That’s so funny! My best friend growing up got his parents Nova when he graduated high school. When you said you weren’t thinking of putting a back seat in, it made me think of his, because he also yanked out the back seat 😂. He fitted it out with a toddler sized mattress so if he was at a party and couldn’t drive home he’d crash back there 😂he also used the hole in the back wall to toss his beer and other booze bottles into the trunk and from time to time he’d drive to the packie to turn his bottles in. Hadn’t thought about that in a really long while, thanks for pulling it out, those were the best times!
We need Nova updates Mook! (And more hot sauce 🤣)
Good deal pulling the heads off and clean the carbon off the Pistons and sending the heads to the shop to have them reworked because vortec heads are notorious for having cracks.
Mook, you are nuts, so darn funny, a girl after my own heart, love watching you two, haven't laughed so much in weeks, your attics in this video were hilarious,.. xxxx

Ive been going through a tough time with stress and troubles with my girlfriend and i just wanna say that you and Kevin's videos help me out. They help me relax and you guys are a blast to watch. I cant wait for what you do to the Toasty Toad Nova "Spicy Nova"
Yay. Thanks for making today better Mook. I enjoy seeing content on this cool old HOT rod. Today is just going even better.
Growing up my dad had a 70 drag ready, I was never old enough to talk to him about it! I do remember it! Rip pop's! 💯💯
Mook is a natural mechanic! She could build a engine on her own. Go Girl!
.002 is 2 thousandths not 20
And you should always mark the rod caps so you get the right cap on the correct rod. Chevrolet isn't stamped from the factory and same for the main caps.
good catch. I was wondering how many people caught that.
Great episode, glad to see the Nova getting new powerplant. One suggestion for the future, hit all rusty surfaces under the car with Rust-Oleum rust reformer. It'll at least slow down the deterioration, if not completely stop it. It also makes a great primer for underbodies.
A bigger engine will reduce both traction and mileage, both of which will cost far more time than slow acceleration! If the v8 has higher compression is better tuned, and is matched to a higher cruising gear, that might make up for the mileage. An aluminum radiator, rear mount battery and posi might make up for the traction too, but would still do far better combined with the I6.
Also, for rust, it is far quicker and more thorough to repeatedly go to a self serve car wash and spray wax the underside and everywhere that might rust.
If they install a starter in the v8, before putting it in, they can compression test it.
I feel like there should be a way to clean carbon off the valve seats without removing the heads. fuel detergents? disconnect egr? advance timing a bit and run fast at high revs to burn it off?
can i ask something Bart? is Barthalomew your real first name ? i usead to have a friend in dallas who had the first name "bart" but i liked to call him his first name!(bathalomew)
@@katieb777 Nope, not Bartholomew 😉. And I've never made it to Texas. I've been halfway around the 🌎, but never got to the East Coast.
mook and kevin what i use when pulling an engine and trans. at the same time is the slip yoke from an old driveshaft stuck in the trans to prevent leaking works realy nice
up until 1971 in canada, the chevy ii/ nova was also called a pontiac acadian, a rebadged chevy.
Mook you're such a delight. Look forward to seeing that spicy Nova doing a big spicy burnout when it's done. The hot sauce challenge was hilarious. I used to love really hot stuff but with age now the gas tank is a little more touchy, lol.
I agree Billy!
Mook, you and Kevin are so hilarious to watch and that hot sauce challenge was just a plus and so funny but you know what I can't wait for? Seeing you driving the "Spicy Nova" down the highway when it's finished. Love your videos and keep them coming!

Engine hoists are perfect for testing the tensile strength of anything you forgot to disconnect. 😂
When installing the new engine, remember to install a flexible grounding wire from an intake bolt to the firewall, or you will have wierd electrical problems. Not like it will solve everything, but without the ground strap you WILL have problems.
Its been four months. Need more mook content.
Would have personally loved a six hop up, and maybe a 5 spd. with split headers, etc. as others have said, but hey, its your car. Since you have that old v8 stting there. You guys take care. Love the vids! Todd Konoske the retired trucker.
Hopefully that six finds a home in something small that it has no business being in 😅
I’ve been vicariously living through you and this nova! The nova has been my Dream car since I was a kid. I WILL own one one day but until then I’ll continue to look forward to these videos. ❤️
The easiest tear down I've ever done was on a Chrysler 318. The lifter valley had ports machined into it where the lifters interface the cam, so you could push the lifters up from the bottom where it contacts the cam.
this seems like a good place to mention generally to the audience...easier to pull the camshaft out of nearly any block if the crank and connecting rods are taken out first, less likely to nick a camshaft bearing when you can reach in there to guide it.
Hi junkyard look and partner!!!! Long time no see! I'm an old guy, 74 yrs old, I've enjoyed many many of you guys vids. Was wondering where you had been. I bought many ' muscle' cars after my ( drafted) stint in the US Army, 1967- 1970. 101st Airborne. I never bought a new muscle car , I bought em used needing tlc. People always try to relate money comparisons from my era to today's money. I can guarantee you that means squat. I bought many 60s muscle cars one in particular was a'69 hemi GTX, black paint red leather interior for $800 bucks from a Chevrolet dealer in my hometown. The car was bought new by a kids dad, the 16 yr old had no idea how to handle it, he dented all corners of it, beat it to death, then parked it in the yard. The dents weren't death bashes, just poor handling and town parking dents. It ran, but poorly that's how come I got it cheap. I towed it home, put it in my garage and had my first real project. At the time I also had a '65 GTO , and a ' 67 Chevelle 396, both bought very used. But they were drivers. I found that the kid had only one set of points in the dist , regular has in the tank, very dirty oil in engine. I pulled it and broke it down, it was more than I could do myself, I wrote to Big Daddy Garlits, asked him ,( it was winter time), and asked for tips on what to do to the engine I wanted all the hp I could get, but I wanted to be able to hear the cam, lope, but be able to drive it on the street. He was so nice and helpful to me, he sent me a book of specs on the 426 hemi , porting tios, what crane cam and valve springs to buy, the best bearings , and to have the machine shop line bore the cam area and the main bearing crank area. Plus assembly how to tips, etc. I am so grateful even today when I sold the cars years ago( I sold it to help finance my first house, I got married😣😣. Anyhow, I detailed the interior, bought new bumpers, repaired minor dents prepped it for paint while I rebuilt the engine. Don also told me about Mallory electronic ignition available in california, which was one of the best improvements for power. So I finished the car installed the engine all clutch components replaced, carbs professionally rebuilt, . Now this was a monster car, I loved it I ran only Sunoco 260 plus AVgas as Don recommended at least 108 octane fuel. Man oh man this car would go!!! I had to practice driving it in order to be able to bring her out of the hole without trying the tires. This was by far my favorite car. Point is I can guarantee you guys regardless of what you hear about 69s money, $800 bucks cash was easy for me to come up with them no matter how the bean counters correlate it in today's $. I paid $500 for my 65 GTO, 1100 $ for my 67 chevelle, both bought in 1971. They were running and driving cars.I have never been rich always a blue collar working stuff I saved my money tho, and bought what I wanted. The GTX was my all time fav ride. Say what you will about the Chrysler 426 Hemi but I can tell you it was a most amazing powerplant, beast of power, badass motor. Keep putting up vids I'm anxious to see your projects in the road!!!welcome back Mook!!!!!!!!
God bless Mook and Kevin, your energy together is a joy to see,
and your spicey interview was insane, love you Mook 😘😍
We all need a Mook in our life!
Mook, where is part 4?? BTW, the hot sauce segment was funny as hell!!
I worked at a packing plant. One order was for Buffalo Wings n Things sauce. We packed a semi trailer full. This stuff was so hot, that you could stick half a toothpick in it, and then throw the toothpick in a pot of whatever you were cooking, and it would be the right amount of heat. All the best to everyone. Chef Scott
I love the fire extinguisher interior handle idea!!! I've seen fabric in the hobby store with hot sauce bottles on it so whatever seats you pick out you can get someone to make you some seat covers to really mach the look ;p
I would have done anything to keep that six.. I just love how they sound... but everyone wants a v8.
I agree, especially with gas prices steady rising also I just read an article that said they are practically indistructable with minimal maintenance.
@@terrythompson5025 the engine was on its way out, especially with that oil coating it. and the power was so lackluster, i can understand the gas prices but atleast they didnt do anything too outrageous. And, v8s can be really strong too but they dont plan on anything serious so i find it a logical 1st step in the right direction. Plus, the original motor *was* a v8.
I have seen several of these with factory 6's, they are much better in a truck though. Put a nice webber on them with a cam and headers and you have torque machine..for a truck with the right gearing.
@@dm9p probably why he called it a ricer. The I6 made more noise I’d guess.
Hey Mook! Just discovered your and Dig's channels ... About your love with hot sauce- I'm the same. I'm actually an r&d person for a hot sauce company out of Virginia. If the burn from a sauce is too overwhelming for you, drinking water only makes it worse. Water (or anything with water in it) only spreads the capsaicin oils around your mouth making it seem much worse. Try eating a wedge of lime to curb the heat. Citric acid will break down the capsaicin. Any sauces made from scorpion peppers or hotter will not work with dairy... The higher levels of capsaicin will cause the milk to curdle in your stomach. Hope this helps!!
I re watched this specific vid because the hot sauce segmant, Plus seeing that inline getting gutted never gets old.
Mook is always entertaining, but this is hysterical!
Thank you for being so awesome and genuine.

Lol the 5 speed manual right after the bomb sauce 🤣
Its so funny, remarking about how small the rod caps are, how tiny everything looks, but a ford 302, no matter how good the rods are, will crack the block in half with sustained 6000rpm. It can also be built for 1/3 the price. There arent many downsides to a 350 chevy
It's weird as folks have cracked blocks at 400 crank hp and other have kept going at 600+
Revving the 302s really does seem to tear them apart.
Main cap girdle helps a bit, but there's also some strengtheners available.
Bullsh!t! I turn my 302 6200rpm every weekend all summer, with factory bottom end, and I have alot less money in my 302 than alot of people have in there small block chevys, small block chevys are not as great as people make them out to be
Hey Mook... Hope you're having a nice day...... Missing your content and seeing the progress of your Nova. Hope all is good with you. Craig. 🙂
That is so funny. "it has no taste, it's just a weapon".
That was a great segment guys.
More episodes please! Mike u/k . Love the car!
I always pull heads if I'm that deep into an engine build, your right there and it gives me atleast, a peace of mind knowing everything is good from top to bottom ❤️❤️❤️ plus it makes it really easy to take outside and pressure wash the block off with some decreased so the paint sticks well, and it gives you the chance to clean all the crap build up out
My thought too. It's already stripped down, you pulled the pan, might as well pull the head and do an actual inspection and clean up the tops of the pistons and the combustion chambers
LoL loved this episode. The nova is coming along great. I don't know if you can save the paint with some flat clear coat but I think that would look so cool. And the hot sauce ending was great. But I'm looking at Mook thinking she needs some milk instead of water.
Beer eliminates the burn.

Yay mook! Your back! Will get stuck into this!
That spider injection system was more then likely the reason that engine ran bad. It’s a great system when it works right but has its issues and is very expensive to fix.

OMG you guys make me laugh so hard, love the channel. Especially love the Nova. cannot wait to see her develop. God bless
45:09... engine machinist here.... that disk in front of the timing gear is a oil slinger... it's job is to make sure the crank shaft seal isn't fighting the oil and the oil is getting sent to the chain instead of just drip oiling. This is common on efi motors to keep sensors away clean and also mopar ran them as well as high performance and marine applications.
I don't know wtf I just watched all the way fully but it amused the freaking hell out of me lol!
Well dang , I was hoping that y’all were going to hot rod the six kind of like Ike from Cars and Cameras did on his Chevy . But a 350 will be cool also !

Inline 6 engines are underrated and too often overlooked, they are awesome platforms to mod and build a high hp reliable engine.those rod bearings are questionable at best.just spend the money and build it.
