Congratulations on the Cutlass making 3,000 mi - 17 😉 it look like you guys had a blast and I really enjoyed your version of power tour. Keep up the great work and the awesome videos 👍✌️🇺🇲
Question Mook, my sister started working as a mechanic and gets offended when men but especially women say “nice to see a women doing this job” but I think it’s just a real observation as it’s less common, have or do you get offended by people saying that?
Saw that you already got the front shocks replaced but it you find yourself replacing others like it in the future, take this for what it is worth. Yes, the center stud always spins when trying to remove the top nut. What I always did was get the appropriate sized socket (1/2 inch I believe it was) and the longest extension in my tool box. Then, I would put the socket on the nut and use the extension for leverage to snap the stud off (grab the extension at the top, and push and pull towards the front of the car and back rapidly). Usually, after a few seconds of doing it, the stud would heat up enough to reach its fatigue point and just snap off. Just a trick an old GM tech taught me when I was starting out in the 80's.
Came here to say the same. Never try to unscrew those nuts, always break the stud. Use a long extension, or the socket on a ratchet will work, too. Then you can bend the stud, turn the shaft, then bend the stud in a different direction. Continue until stud breaks.
1:26:00 after having recently done my suspension, I didn't torque down the brake caliper bolts and they slowly walked their way out until it started rattling, so I torqued it down and everything was peachy. Point of the comment, it's nice to see that even people who spend a lot of time working on cars sometimes overlook these things and it wasn't just me.
Hey! I know that Slo-pra! Great video! A trick I learned from an old mechanic for doing GM front shocks: Put a 9/16ths deep well socket with the longest extension you can muster on the top nut. Rock the extension front and back until the nut and the top of the shock shaft shear off. Then shock is off. Don't care about keeping the shock intact as it gets tossed into the trash.
My son is United States Marine! I was at 29 Palms and it was nice! Everything is duty free and seemed like a good deal! Our Military deserves all of that and sooo much MORE! Great video Mook!!! Congratulations Kevin on a Million!!!
Hey! I just found your channel and I really like the vibe of the videos and the content! It's a bummer to see there are no new updates. This was finally something chill and friendly that I enjoyed way more than the usual dry shows. Hope you'll continue!
A tip for removing shocks - Use the appropriate socket on top bolt, use a long extension and go through wheel well into engine bay. Use socket and extension to lever the top of the rod back and forth and it will break off. Much easier that fighting the rusty hardware.
My buddy's uncle told us that tip/trick back in 1987.....I have always busted the top nut off every front shock ever since. No that technique is not in any manual, but so what.....the shock is going in the metal recycling pile
My momma had a 72 Cutlass with a 350 Rocket in it. Didn't have the most power ever, but that was the smoothest running engine I have ever experienced. And it was super quiet.
When are you going to be putting out more content Mook? I enjoy watching Junkyard Digs but on your channel or Digs, you’re my favorite part. You are so freaking funny and you teach me stuff about vehicles, that I can then pretend I didn’t watch on my UA-cam while we watch it on his and know what I’m talking about and throw him through a loop(make him think I know more than I do). Please come back!!!
I tour'd 2020 with a rebuilt 87 Dodge Daytona. Drove all the way from Las Vegas, Nevada to do it. That car made it the entire drive. The only problem on return was a couple belts and something pierced my windshield reservoir. Me and my girl made our own set of goals as part of the tour. Wink wink. My dumb brain decided to loan it out to someone for a couple days...and they totaled it. I would rebuild it, but the frame was bent way out of shape toward unrecoverable. Love you guys both! Your personalities are perfect for this kind of video and I hope for your successes in the future!
Where’s MOOK!!!! Girl you rock!! Make Jesse Combes PROUD! We miss you!! All I see is JYD out there having a grand time. You need to keep in I want to see booger truck if not gift her to me
C-119, C123, and C-7 Caribou. 2800 and 4360 ci piston engines I love it! Much bigger engines than the Olds. Congrats on your million, of which I'm one. You guys rock!! Respect from Nor-Cal.
Well, here I am in little old New Zealand, in the middle of winter, watching a couple of very entertaining people take a 50-year-old Cutlass on a near-3000 mile trip in a week. Would I want to be there in person and experience that? From the readying of the beast for her tour of duty and the scenery of the countryside as you both settle into the mammoth task of completing the first leg, I was dubious. I could hear the 'wug-wug-wug' of the driveshaft U-joint as you coasted to a stop each time and thought that it was either a U-joint, a brake binding or a wheel or diff bearing going west.....and as it got worse, not better, the brake idea was thrown out and I just hoped you'd get home. Man, there are some beautiful areas in your huge country! As you cruised down between states and met up with different (and familiar) people, the Cutlass was definitely proving her worth. Nothing like cruising in a big comfy car as she eats up the miles on a long trip, eh....although think Ike might be a bit seasick when he gets home from the lack of shock absorption up front of that big wagon! Lovely to see the huge array of vehicles of all ages, makes and conditions as they rumbled, roared or cackled by and the size of those venues could probably be twice what they are and still have issues fitting them all in before closing time! Totally awestruck by the number and SIZE of the performance parts shops you have over there - and even of the general parts stores like O'Reilly's. Over here we have nothing that could compare with the huge range they all have available and I must admit to being quite jealous of that! Guaranteed if you headed down here, you'd take one look in a Repco or Supercheap Auto and laugh your heads off.....if you weren't totally frustrated because you had to wait for several days for them to order in the part you needed.....and that's even in the biggest city we have! Glad you took advantage of the sales at Summit though - even if there are no plans for what you bought yet! This Power Tour video is different from others in a lot of respects as it shows the true human element and not just hyping up the event itself. Mook - your voice-overs are great and I love the little witticisms that get injected - it makes the video all the ore authentic. The fact the Cutlass was able to do the near 3000 mile trip with a couple of niggles just goes to show what a great car it still is after all these years and I'm glad it was just a U-joint out of whack.....so you gave it a couple and put it back in and she got you home! I'd be very proud of that car if it had done that trip for me. Absolutely loved the commentary from both of you as well.....and would I ever want to do a power tour in a 50-year-old classic? Damn right I would! Where do I sign up for the one in 2024? ....and where should I start the tour? ....and where can I find an Olds Cutlass? I guess I will just have to find out, eh? All the best
Heya, Mook! This is THE VERY FIRST AD that I've watched in its entirety. You're a BORN spokeswoman! Lol. Great video! Wish we could have been there on PT with you guys. ...maybe next year... -Vic and Johnny
I didn't see any of it because I have sponsorblock. I do not watch promospam, but it says something about her videos when main highlight for some people was the AD. Let's just say Kevin is way better of a spokeman and a mechanic :)
That a really nice car and I think personally that you should drop those points and condenser and put a pertronix 2 or 3 and that would make a huge difference. I did this conversion on mine and it starts and runs a 100% better.
You did an excellent job at saving all your video with the voice over. Those are memories that will last a lifetime. I`m glad you guys are having a good summer.
Mook, I wish you were still doing these great videos . Your decision is yours . Really hate to see you stop doing videos. I started watching your channel, and your channel led me to other channels that I really enjoy. You are very loved by your fans . Happy vibes your way.
So the outside U-joint snap rings are probably a LOT better because you're absolutely 100% SURE they're in and locked, however the are a NIGHTMARE to get out sometimes, especially when you're on the SIDE OF THE ROAD or in a parking lot and you're under your brother's 89 OBS truck and when they manufactured the truck they used up whatever they had on the shelf at the GM assembly plant and you're stuck with 2 different sized joints on the same end. Yeah. Dealt with that once in the rain at 2 am. Fun stuff
Congrats on driving nearly 3000 miles on HRPT2023 and congrats Kevin on reaching 1 million subscribers!! Awesome milestones and beautiful trip across the country.
Hi Mook, if you're tired of UA-cam, then please be honest with your 260000 followers. Or give a short sign of life. It's always frustrating for everyone when you suddenly don't see or hear anything more from the content creator. 😞
Cool video! I’m a Red Seal diesel mechanic from Canada, an older guy I used to work with for a few years before he retired a couple years ago had a 1955 /56 Chevy. He and a couple of his friends always went to Minneapolis every year to the car shows, they would load their cars up on trailers though to haul over the border. They would spend like 4 days and it’s all I heard for about a week at work there following week lol. He loved it.
1:05:25 good idea doing a time lapse on Mook finishing a cinnamon roll Kevin. My 11 month old daughter thought the sped up voices was the most hilarious thing.
This brings back memories of my '71 Cutlass. Although it was a 4 door, it was a cool 😎 car. Did the shocks just like you, but in '86 on a farm income, the rears got J.C Whitney helper springs over the rear shocks which really worked well. About 200,000 I replaced the timing chain. You could literally take the chain off the sprockets without taking the sprockets off. That's how stretched it was. Also found a 4-barrel intake and matching carb at a local yard. Replaced the sloppy distributor with a reman and it really made that 350 rocket 🚀 motivate. Huge difference! Oh, I also did rebuild the carb. Never had a stumbling issue after that. Replaced the ⛽️ gas tank. Replaced the cracked windshield with one from the scrap yard. Did a lot of other things to the interior such as new carpeting, stereo, the usual. Sold it to my cousin. Then he sold it. Oh well. 😊
On GM older front shocks.. it's been a minute.. but use a deep well 9/16 with a 3/8 socket with a tall 12"+extension.. while pushing down on the extension.. pry it towards the front grill and windshield.. back and forth..the shank on the shock(being hardened steel) will snap or crack below that upper nut.. did this all my years as a ASE mechanic.. never failed me
Those classic Oldsmobiles from the 60's and early 70's were such great cars and the Olds 350 is bulletproof. I've owned at least one classic Olds since 1975 and currently have a Rallye 350.
I've never been so Happy to pay my Taxes, if it affords you guys a deal on a Hotel room. This was fantastic! Keven, Thank You for your service, in keeping us Free.
Well done Mook. Those race tracks are great, we took our company cars to a driving school at the Calder thunder dome in AUS once and took em on the oval, we were supposed to stick to 80 and we were all doing 110-130 in stock company sedans. Good fun. Well done again, kevin was handy too 😂. Congrats on the Million too 👍
Sorry about rockingham guys but jeez I wish I would’ve been there able to meet you guys. That’s where I grew up I live 30 mins away now. But you and mookers make my days working at the plant bearable. Absolutely love you guys and thanks for all the help yall have given me in your videos.
Also I’ve watched alll the videos multiple times. I even just let your videos play as I’m falling asleep. Like the playlist of farming and everything brother thanks for being a great person. You and the whole crew angus mook Jessie Luke Dylan just the best kinds of people love you alll
Hell yeah it'll survive the 2,900 miles. It's a old Cutlass. My first car was a 70 Supreme. Car was reliable as hell and I wish I'd hung on to it. Good cruising on the tour and stay safe.
What a journey and, other than a few minor issues, very much trouble free! That old Cutlass absolutely deserves a good spa day or two. 🙂 I need to come to terms with Power Tour really being more of an east coast thing and wrap my head around making it a truly cross-country endeavor. Looks like a LOT of fun... but it's a pretty daunting prospect. Lastly, congratulations to you both on the 1M mark for JYD. It might be Kevin's baby, but Mook is a huge part of it's success, too. Amazing how far you've come since that kind of shy & awkward girl in your first appearance!
you'll probably never see this comment but i like passing on info lol, i work at a big suspension place here in Queensland Australia, and ALWAYS have trouble getting old rusty shocks off, until an old fella showed me a trick about 20yr ago, on top of the shock you'll see the stem with the thread on it, on top of that stem is usually about 20mm of blank rod, grab a grinder and grind some sides into that blank area, grab an open ended spanner for the size you cut and you'll be able to hold the shock still while undoing the jam nuts and hardware, 2min on the grinder saves you a BUTT load of frustration and time 👌keep up the awesome videos Mook! i love ya work
This video was my first introduction to your videos! I really enjoyed this! I watch lots of your videos! You both rock! And Mook your just too cute! Congratulations on your wedding! Looks like it was fun! Anyway, I hope you guys are having a great day! I think I might go and watch your clapped out Impala video, AGAIN!!!! IT CRACKED ME UP!!!!!! ✌️
Hello Mook never commented before but when replacing your shocks instead of fighting the top nut. Take a socket that fits tight and a long extension and pull the extension and just break the top right off way easier and huge time saver give it a try it will help you on many projects.
I LIKE...REALLY LOVE THAT 72 CUTLASS...SAME EXACT COLOR AND MODEL MY GRANDMA HAD!!! BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES...ICE CREAM RUNS...FIREWORKS TRIPS...LAZY SUNDAY DRIVES...❤
Seeing Mook jumping mailboxes "running" down the side of the road hit home soo hard, in a good way. Every summer as a kid we drove 3200 miles round trip Nevada to Dakota and back. Datsun 210 , power nothing, no AC. I got horrible car sick if I tried to read so it was just my imagination and a window for 26 or so hours each way. Miss your content.
I've owned the exact same car (different color combo) for the past 7 years and in the last two years I've kind of lost my drive to fix things so I can keep driving it, but now this gives me a new desire to bring it back to what it used to be, a car that I drove around all summer and I can't wait to bring it back to that point. Thank you for giving me the push to bring it back to it's former glory, my vinyl top also leaks but only in one place instead of multiple, I guess I'm lucky lol
I consider Junkyard Digs both Kevin and Mook, you guys better show us that million subscriber play button when you get it lol. I’ve been a subscriber since his high school days waiting for him to get back from deployments just for him to post a video lol I can’t believe yall were that close to me and I didn’t know it. Literally roads I drive everyday ashemont, plank/chicken rd. I’m glad you guys got to enjoy our area and state.
Mooooookie..... I worked with a guy named mookie. He was a fan of a baseball player. Fkn Cutlass Supreme! Those cars were badass ! As a kid I saw one candy apple red with a white top. You're a cool chick. Not afraid to get dirty. Cool. Kevin and you seem like a great couple. Fun channels. Love seeing old heaps brought back to running condition. Be safe ...rock n roll
Something to consider about the fuel gauge- I replaced the tank (new 19 gallon tank on my 74 F-100 pickup) and replaced the fuel sending unit also. Never could get it to work, even got a replacement for the new unit at the parts store but had the same results. One of my Ford trucks forums mentioned this was common with many vehicles of that era using new/modern sending units. They suggested getting one from Taiwan (purchased from National Parts Depot) that still uses the copper winding that the "contact" slides up and down against for the variable resistance. Sure enough, it works GREAT. If the one you are using has the "digital" resistance thingy on it instead of the wrapped copper wire and contact thing-it very well could be your problem.
MOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!! OMG!!!! THAT FINGER THING YOU DO OUT THE WINDOW JUMPING OVER THINGS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD!!!!!! WOWOWW!!! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT DID THAT!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT MOOOOOOKKKKK!!! JUST SAYIN!!!! THANKS, F. M. V.
Mook I am so glad you got the CUTLASS!!!!!!! That is one of my PENULTIMATE CARS!!!!!!! The paint looks so good! I also love the COLORS.....you do not see that combo on the road!!!!!!

Love the Cutlass.. nothing beats the A-body GMs.
My son is United States Marine! I was at 29 Palms and it was nice! Everything is duty free and seemed like a good deal! Our Military deserves all of that and sooo much MORE! Great video Mook!!! Congratulations Kevin on a Million!!!
Great trip! Thanks for taking us along. Well done on the Million subscribers to both of ya!
Hey! I just found your channel and I really like the vibe of the videos and the content! It's a bummer to see there are no new updates. This was finally something chill and friendly that I enjoyed way more than the usual dry shows. Hope you'll continue!
keep em commin mook , cant wait to see what those heads go on, congrats to you guys and the cutlass for finishing the trip with minimal problems
MORE MOOK! PLEASE!
When making gaskets a spent shell casing from a freedom seed works greak to cut the bolt holes and come in many fun calibers
Mook! We need you! You are the salt of the earth!
Makes me want to go on power tour next year, looked like a great time!
Please come back!!!
i hope all is ok because she has not been in any videos for a long time now and you dont even see mook on kevins videos ????
@@jfc213im curious as well to what is going on
She got creeped out by the weirdos on the channel.
@@Zestypanda that’s sad 😞 and just ridiculous some people got to be idiots
I think something happened IRL as well, some YT creep showing up at her job or something. People just can’t let people be people. 🤷🏻♂️
Always a good day when mook or kevin posts 🤘🏻🤘🏻
At 79 there is not many things i enjoy anymore but you guys make me smile and you mook are a treasure . please don't leave
Where’s MOOK!!!! Girl you rock!! Make Jesse Combes PROUD! We miss you!! All I see is JYD out there having a grand time. You need to keep in I want to see booger truck if not gift her to me
Not happening.
C-119, C123, and C-7 Caribou. 2800 and 4360 ci piston engines I love it! Much bigger engines than the Olds.
Congrats on your million, of which I'm one. You guys rock!!
Respect from Nor-Cal.
THE TIMELAPSE THO 😂
I Think that needs to become a regular segment in the Junkyard channel episodes
Notification SQUAD Have a nice weekend!🔥🔥🔥
Let’s go mook
Mook, I wish you were still doing these great videos . Your decision is yours . Really hate to see you stop doing videos. I started watching your channel, and your channel led me to other channels that I really enjoy. You are very loved by your fans . Happy vibes your way.
Thanks for bringing us along on your guys Hot rod power tour Road Trip Mook and Kevin @Junkyard Mook @Junkyard Digs
Hour and a half of the Mook! Yes please.
Fun stuff
Make some more videos
Nope.
Congrats on driving nearly 3000 miles on HRPT2023 and congrats Kevin on reaching 1 million subscribers!! Awesome milestones and beautiful trip across the country.
@JunkyardDigs deserves 1 million subscribers for a lot of hard work and down to earth fascinating content
Hi Mook, if you're tired of UA-cam, then please be honest with your 260000 followers. Or give a short sign of life. It's always frustrating for everyone when you suddenly don't see or hear anything more from the content creator. 😞
You leave that comment 11 months after the video is uploaded? SO freeking weird.
Weirdo. Leave her alone. She owes you nothing. You’re why she left.
At least they can spell.
UPDATE your channel ….
No.
1:05:25 good idea doing a time lapse on Mook finishing a cinnamon roll Kevin. My 11 month old daughter thought the sped up voices was the most hilarious thing.
Looks like there is rain coming hurry get the corn in Kevin and Mook awesome hotrod powertour 2023 video @Junkyard Mook @Junkyard Digs
Oh well. 😊
Makes me miss the 73' I use to have. Fun watch.
I've never been so Happy to pay my Taxes,
if it affords you guys a deal on a Hotel room.
Congrats on the Million too 👍
Don't forget a windshield reseal job. Glad to see that the old beast had very little in the way of problems on the trip.
This was incredible! Thank You! Congrats to Kevin as well for the 1Million!
That summit racing is just like the one near where I live. I guess they have a universal layout and theme.
So proud of the mook and Kevin channels,1,000,000 is amazing dude so happy for you guys.thanks John from Arizona
You’re so intelligent where are you from geek
@WoodenKatie Ironic, you questioning his intelligence. Where’s your punctuation, Katie? 😂
you'll probably never see this comment but i like passing on info lol, i work at a big suspension place here in Queensland Australia, and ALWAYS have trouble getting old rusty shocks off, until an old fella showed me a trick about 20yr ago, on top of the shock you'll see the stem with the thread on it, on top of that stem is usually about 20mm of blank rod, grab a grinder and grind some sides into that blank area, grab an open ended spanner for the size you cut and you'll be able to hold the shock still while undoing the jam nuts and hardware, 2min on the grinder saves you a BUTT load of frustration and time 👌keep up the awesome videos Mook! i love ya work
This video was my first introduction to your videos! ✌️
Thanks for taking me along on the tour. Congrats on the million mark.
Chipmunk Mook eating a cinnamon roll is completely adorable! Thanks for the smiles!
Thanks for taking us along on Power Tour! Y'all are a lot of fun to travel with!
WE LOVE YOU MOOK, WE NEED JUNKYARD MOOK VIDEOS
I've owned the exact same car (different color combo) for the past 7 years and in the last two years I've kind of lost my drive to fix things so I can keep driving it, but now this gives me a new desire to bring it back to what it used to be, a car that I drove around all summer and I can't wait to bring it back to that point. Thank you for giving me the push to bring it back to it's former glory, my vinyl top also leaks but only in one place instead of multiple, I guess I'm lucky lol
I consider Junkyard Digs both Kevin and Mook, you guys better show us that million subscriber play button when you get it lol. I’ve been a subscriber since his high school days waiting for him to get back from deployments just for him to post a video lol
I can’t believe yall were that close to me and I didn’t know it. Literally roads I drive everyday ashemont, plank/chicken rd. I’m glad you guys got to enjoy our area and state.
I'm new to jyd and just to let y'all know I'm enjoying the channel i wich ever time you put out a channel ty
This era of Oldsmobile cars was truly the golden era of the brand.
Stands way higher with new coil springs and Shocks Very nice @Junkyard Mook
41:57 I didn't know Mook could rip such a fine burp. Bravo!
