I just cannot express myself how I appreciate JP's ability to create such beautiful melodies in his solos. I've grown up with this since 1995 when I first listened to Awake.
@@TrebleForTheBass Anyone who thinks Mike Portnoy is the better drummer between the two knows absolutely nothing about drumming. MP is the better songwriter/producer though, I'll give him that.
It really is epic! I must say I wasn’t enthusiastic about the Dramatic Turn of Events album without Portnoy as it seemed to lack the raw aggression and adrenaline tracks that Portnoy contributed to in the past. but I gave it a few more rotations then realized it’s a pretty amazing body of work technically and creatively. and this track is brilliant…hard, edgy then soft and melodic with Petrucci ripping our faces off with an epic solo…but everyone contributed to this track and that’s what makes it so great IMO.
I can't get enough of Mangini's drumming. It's beautiful, melodic, and technical. He is the only drummer that has brought me feelings like that. To me, he is the greatest drummer in the world.
The fact the dude has ANOTHER drumset on a scaffolding above his already huge drum set is epic in and of itself. I never imagined anyone could match or even exceed Mike Portnoy. But man. I've NEVER seen the man make a mistake in all the hours ive watched him play DT songs
They are riding the whitewater rapids of music; in the zone. Thanks for pointing this out. I usually listen to audio while on another browser tab. Watching this actually gave me goose bumps.
There is Dream Theater and there's everybody else....fucking amazing. I am 66 and you don't get this many great musicians in the same band very often. Unreal....
I'm super happy you can dig these dudes at 66. Do me a favor and NEVER listen to the comments on UA-cam if you start to listen to them. Their internet fans are as toxic as the Star Wars memesters. Keep rockin'.
It's beautiful. JP gets a lot of shit for being too technical and solo less, but solo's like this are so well written and passionate. This one ranks right up with the Hollow Years @ Budokan solo for me. It's so full of emotion.
I remember when they played this in Sydney at Big Top, Luna Park... the crowd absolutely errupted when they started this song. Then there was this sense of unexplainable energy in the building. Everyone was just mesmerised by it. It's like they hypnotised us all with this. I'll never forget it.

A more talented band does not exist. Each member is at the apex of his instrument's contribution to the musical canon that is progressive rock music. They have extended the reach and challenged the musical boundaries set by prog's greatest bands-Yes, ELP, Rush, Kansas, Genesis, Crimson and Floyd et al. That is no easy chore, yet they have done it with great aplomb and top shelf excellence.
Dream Theater, is the best of the best!! Magnificent song and masterfully performed by one of the best metal singers of all time: the great James "the Pirate" LaBrie, great work Cap. !! 🎼🎙✌️🤘DT 4EVER
I agree, this is one of my favorite bands of all times.. I got to meet them, got to tell them that there music helped me through a hard time in my life.. I also got a shirt signed bye them.. It was a incredible night!!!
Honestly im not a fan of DT but man this song touched my soul, the chords progression, the arrangement so clean! They are so organized, pure pro! Respect for these legends! Rock on!
J'adore DT ! Je ne me suis jamais ennuyé, les concerts et les albums sont formidables, ils sont exigeants avec leur musique, et généreux avec le public. Merci les gars ! Vivement le prochain album !
Absolutely amazing and awesome. Dream Theater set the bar soooooooooo high and highly doubt that alot of metal bands out there can honestly catch up to them as far as ability.

As a relatively new follower of DT, I'm not sure if I might be lucky enough to not have to delve into the MP v MM debate 🙂 I saw DT in London UK in February '20 (having accessed D. O. T and worked back over previous albums) and I had a great time. I like music that tells story, paints a picture, conveys a positive message or takes you places. Thank you Dream Theater, Rush and Deep Purple for giving me those elements between you over 45 years 🙂
I just smoked a weed and heard this whole symphony and after hearing every detail of each instrument it's such a healthy therapy, a trip, it's magic, my God, thanx for the video
Always love the beginning of the song and the part at 6:41 which is so tempered in dynamics which sets up another cool guitar solo by the master Petrucci:) A very well shot and quality video if this song and performance, love it!

Oh wow, the part @01:34 when it breaks it just goes to the drums, bass, and keys gives me chills. Such a great song, with amazing composition. Thank you DT for doing what you do so well!!!!
So most of this album was written in the same structure as songs on Images and Words. This song has the Learning to Live structure. Listen to it. It has the same breakdown with the quiet drums bass and keys part
I just turned 65 this month and happened to stumble across the drummer auditions. I've been playing guitar since I was 10 and yet found the auditions very interesting. Great band! Hope they come to Charleston, SC area in the future.

Literally everyone on this band is like a total master of the instrument.
They’re masters absolutely!!!
This is the idea
Sangat jenius.
Berklee graduate moment
Yess..
Petrucci's tone is just phenomonal
Drummers practice to a metronome, metronomes practice to Mike Mangini. What an absolutely phenomenal drummer.
Xiyu Yang mp is better
Oh please with the MP is better comment! Fuck Portnoy! He left! He's out!!! Move on!
Are you joking? Hope you are not serious. Mangini compared to Portnoy is only a poor robot

in fact bro! I enjoy the 1996 g3 with Mike on drums for Steve Vai!!
9:18 John Myung and John Petrucci communicating telepathically
Holy crap that is perfect. He even nods like he received something back from John. HAHA
Totally dude.
totally agreeing with this fact😂

Give that bass player an award. Keeping up with Petrucci, nearly note for note, is just amazing to see.
J Myung never looked at anything but his playing. He needs to keep up to Petrucci
since Majesty days I think JP has been keeping up with Myung ;)

Porcupine Tree, Opeth and Dream Theater are the only 3 bands that give me these feels of such great complex writing. while also being beautiful

Together with At Wit's End and Pale Blue Dot now!
equilibrio perfetto fra tecnica e melodia, virtuosismo e pathos

Fantastic
With the sun in place
There's a test of faith
Streams of thought awaken
New realities
Singularities
Breaking all illusions
Sudden burst of heat
Burning source of life
Masterful destruction
Power's not an act
It's understanding truth
Changing my direction
Live in the moment
Breathe in a new beginning
Wisdom revealed
As I unlearn to learn
Life's biggest battles
Often are fought alone
My spirit brings me home
Emerald thoughts flow through my consciousness
Drawn to curses left behind
Test of will the threshold to one's faith
Starts a fire in the mind
Searching out
Reaching in
To arrive
Where I began
Sights remembered
In the light
Searching out
Reaching in
To arrive
Where I began
Sounds remembered
Come alive
Embrace the days
Don't turn away
Life's true intent needs patience
Karma starts the signal
