If a band can hold your attention through an instrumental section so long that the singer can just leave the f*cking stage, that's a great band.
Genesis did that with the last section of The Cinema Show, pretty sure. Also a great band.

I never did drugs but I experienced a lot of pleasures, but all I can say is that I have never been happier and more ecstatic than how I was during the 3 hours their concert lasted last summer. Maybe it's unusual to find your deepest pleasure in music, but I'm so glad that I found it. Dream Theater for life!

Change of Seasons is an epic track. It's different. Repeantence and dissapear could be boring and slow for some.
I think Best of Times and The Spirits Carries On are their most emotional songs.
Pedro Antunes Indeed another nice candidates, but IMHO The Ministry of Lost Souls is their most emotional :) Surely for example Goodnight Kiss always gets me crying (specially if I hear it from Score, where James does an HEAVENLY work).

i'm crying with this song. it's amazing from DT Ever with epic guiter played by Petrucci.
I tend to cry too when im drunk lol cause then the lyrics is so deep and meaningful, when im not drunk I just enjoy the pure amazing musicianship and complexity of the song
So is no one going to talk about how good John's vocals sound on the "Goodbye" part in the last chorus?
He is making the low vocals, and James the high ones.. I mean it sounds great, but not really comparable to his guitar playing
OllingProductions I'm simply a sucker for vocal harmony, and JP is killing that one. Don't know why it jumped out to me so much, but it did lol. And don't get me wrong, I'm a guitar player too, and JP actually happens to be my favorite guitarist, but yeah, he's not doing much that stands out on guitar in that exact spot, and he's just got some really good tone going on his vocals in that "Goodybye" harmony bit. Got the same powerful feeling from his vocals when he sang the "One Last Time" bit in Finally Free at the Breaking the Fourth Wall Show.
I agree, the harmonies sound better than just the regular version, adds variaty and "uniqueness", but technically its not really his vocals that shines through, but James' as its James who sings the second voice which dominates over the first voice or the "melody" as its located above the melody tone.
Though, he doesn't sing bad at all, and it is very clear how he progressed over the years.
Im attending my 8th concert with them in February, SO EXCITED!
OllingProductions Yeah, the higher harmony that James sings here live is in the recording as well, but the melody dominates it. In this live show, James is just a touch louder than John, but we can still here John very clearly, which to me, brings out not only John's great vocal tone in that part, but the harmony as a whole, and how beautiful of a harmony it is. I've only seen them once, back in April, where they did the Astonishing live, and that absolutely knocked my socks off. Will be sure to see them every chance I get.
5:35 is an especially stand-out moment

Only one that I think is missing here is A Change of Seasons, so many great songs.

John Petrucci's guitar has a line directly to my soul, amazing what he can do with such simple melodies.
Yes. He's obviously one of the very best with the shredding, but his ear for melody (and that divine tone) are what make him my favorite.
This song makes me feel nostalgic and sad about something that never happened. Dream Theater are true artists.

One thing about Dream Theater is that when I listen to them, I become fully immersed in the story they tell through their music. Literally opens a portal to another dimension. It's so magical.

Amazing.. just amazing.One of my all time faves of DT. I love the soaring melody lines in the outro and the heavy riff in the solo section. The mood and feel they create with this song is so tangible. They allow you to visit different worlds with their music. I love it.
Can we just talk about Petrucci's tone at 3:15 for a moment. Probably my millionth listen, but it destroys my soul every time.
I honestly can’t name a more skilled band than dream theater. Each of their members is the best at their instruments, and combining that with Labrie’s voice is just insane. I can’t wait to see them live.
