Tony Levin is just effortlessly cool. What a legend.
Levin is fucking incredible
Portnoy having the time of his life. So good.
Every time ever. Such a presence on stage.
Makes me want to learn more and quit the drums at the same time. God!!!
@@ayushsuyayush no! Just play at your level and be happy to play drums it's good for health!!!!!
we too :)
I’ll ignore the fact he interacts like a jazz drummer in a rock setting or the chops. But I miss him in DT. He’s second to Bonham for me, but had he been born earlier mighta given him a run for his money. Portnoy is such a clever drummer
From 3:45 to 6:15 Petrucci hits more notes than I've ever played in my entire 20 years of playing the guitar
The truth fucking hurts
So true.
lol
Wut?
:D Looks like he didn't play guitar for more than 20 years. He's so hungry and kind of "Hey! Look at me, so fast and awsome! Let me play alone this game."
those guys are far beyond the human limits of musicianship
josé guilherme thomé they are very good. Not metal but check out karn evil 9 2nd impression, from Emerson lake and Palmer. Or just the the whole album brain salad surgery

Are you from Québec? My grandmother was a Tardif from La Beauce.
yep! from Montreal though
C'est une version avec Derek Sherinian au clavier qui me ramène ici et... bon bah y'a pas photo Rudess a carrément plus de doigté. Et c'est vrai que cette version est super. Bonjour de la Belgique !
Absolutely. Unbelievable.
WE NEED the Liquid Tension Experiment's 20th Anniversary Reunion Tour!
Nicolás Serrano C. Yeah tony is down you just got to ask jordan john and mike.
Well ...
Dreams come true now!
New Album in 2021 !
LTE3 announced! And I'm so excited!
3:07 what an amazing groove, there is no one like Tony
Look at Mike in 6:11 hitting the pad to his right, which apparently doesn´t produce any sound. That is his call to end the improvised solo section and head towards the next riff section of the song. When he hits that, the rest of the musicians hear a percussive signal in their in-ear monitors so they don`t need to be looking at the drummer all the time to know when the solo should end. If you pay attention closely, he uses the same type of pad in 0:14 (this time in his left) to count 4 and allow he and John start at the same time without having to use 4 stick hits or 4 hi hat notes heard outside by the people. He used this stuff too when DT played Metropolis live in that part when lights went out producing a silence that apparently wasn`t counted along with a click track or anything like that. That mixture of a heavy amount of improvised stuff but yet being held inside a really controlled environment instead of your typical free jazz band wankery where everyone does whatever they want whitout a defined direction, has been for me the most clear and cool defining element of this amazing band. They jammed a lot, but not to the point of getting you bored. And besides that jamming, they had songs with motifs and arrangementes composed in the studio and studied later, even if they were produced in a short amount of time like LTE 1. I am not sure if I really want them to make another album if the honest musical chemistry between them is not really back after the differences Mike had with Jordan and John, but I am surely thankful to them for making this great music that I still listen after so many years.
Interesting!
i really had no idea this existed
wtf i dont understand any words you say
@@markabellar4152 just look at mike in the beginning of the song, he hit something that doesn't make a sound to us but all of the band members can listen to
@@MpSniperM1911 i think most of live is like that.they use that tool right?
Tony Levin on the Chapman stick. That guy has always been amazing.
Love how they keep smiling, like "you hear this shit we're playing?". Can tell they're enjoying themselves.
This is the gold standard for bands that endeavor to play "tight" !
Yes! This is what I want. Blazing, howling electric guitar that pushes music right to the edge, not just raising the roof, but blasting the roof into a million pieces. The whole band is amazing. What intensity from everyone!
So impressive when the lead guitar and keys do unison runs together.
6:54 Jordan plays it off so coolly. They effortlessly adapt. This is the purest form of a supergroup.
they opened a 2 hour concert with this song. already played 2 bilion notes or something
Hahahaha, true!!

@@mr.know-all6984 yeah man. Check out The Down Troddence
I was thinking if they did this song and were like "have a good night" i would still be satisfied.
John Petrucci's arm is illegal in 11 countries.
LMAO xD
He is considered a Deadly Shredder. He was never arrested because he is not a Hack.
Miles Elzinga 🤣😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 best comment of the year
Haha good one
Favorite part 1:01
If we could plug that song's energy output into the electric grid of a city, it would have been enough for a whole year.
The best part about all of this is that is not just technical playing for the sake of being technical. So much feeling and groove behind this. It's like Edgar Winter's on steroids
2:37 "yea, I'm doing light-speed arpeggios"
"This shit is easy" Face.
I already knew, Petrucci was insainly good, but this is just... dam. I wanna start learning guitar just so I can quit it because of him.

11 years later and this is still one of THE greatest musical performances I've ever seen, in person or in video. Petrucci's solo is actually beyond human
Nobody talks bout Tony Levin? That man it's beyond awesome.
Tony is a God.
He's a legend, but his talents are wasted in this band. Just Petrucci and Rudess trying to figure out who's the fastest and loudest.
I'll talk about Tony.

Been listening to this song for 10 years but been a while since I seen a live performance of it. Mind 💣💣💣💥💥💥 every time. It's better than the record version. They were all so in sync with each other back then. Every second of their songs. The skill of jp and Jordan rudess to play note for note with each other will never not amaze me. These guys were and still are some of the best ever musicians on the planet. I gotta go watch it again then again and again.
I totally hear you, the same has happened to me since I first listened to this song. What a nice musical journey it is! Cheers!
Looks like one of them is going to levitate at any moment
This is outrageous, men! hahaha
Lol xd
😂😂😂😂 ikr
And that one is Tony Levitin
Looool hahahahah
I’ve been watching this performance for about 14 years now
I remember when my guitar teacher showed me this video 6 years ago, change my musical perspective absolutely
I commented on this 2yrs ago. Proud to say still watching and listening. Haven't seen a match for these 4 guys. What a collection of amazing talent. All 4 are gods of music. I will NEVER tire of this performance . EPIC.
crazy horse29 Unmatched indeed!
THIS PERFORMANCE IS UNBELIEVABLE !!!
I always love seeing such outstanding musicians performing for 2+ hours. Just 4 amazing people across the stage doing their magic.
This is a tsunami of notes. Great Music. It transmits power
no it's a storm, and the rain is acid
Its just ridiculously not fair how talented some musicians are. Four absolute masters of their craft.
These guys are insane. Doesn't seem humanely possible to play any faster than they are. Wow. Awesome dudes.
Did anyone notice that Jordan Rudess have some problem with his keyboard when it comes keyboard solo part?
Jordan keys solo was supposed to start at 6:33, and it didn't. You can see John, Mike & Tony face at that time, confused what happened to Jordan because Keys solo is not starting until 6:52 😂
Jordan said "wow" at 6:59 telling other that he almost failed keyboard solo part 😂
The same problem happen to John Petrucci in "Universal Mind" in this concert. His guitar amp down right in the middle of Jordan Rudess Piano Solo. Portnoy have to write message on a paper and run to Jordan to tell him continue the piano solo a little bit longer while John amp being restored 😂
Maybe you can take Jordan's place in the band !
for a 2 hour show 2 mess ups with technical problems isn't that bad.
Pringka Arwanda I respect you greatly for noticing that
He had a technical problem with the new Roland Phantom G8.... It was the newest keyboard by Roland at the time and he agreed promoting it. At the show in Chicago it completely went bananas and they had to continue playing without a keyboard. The video from that show turned into one of the most sought after, because they had to turn it into an open jam session and the guys switching instruments..... Here is a link of them with JR on lead guitar and JP on bass: ua-cam.com/video/k-gcWMjotgE/v-deo.html
Dude!! good call !! They were like we have been grooving this long don't fuck it up!!! Jordan covers well and I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out!!
This has to be one of the greatest live solos ever
que bestialidad este tema ... hace 25 años que lo sigo escuchando y está cada vez mejor!
Like a fine wine! 🤙
Te entiendo. Yo siempre lo escucho de vez en cuando... En la medida justa para no cansarme ni dejarlo olvidado.

Damn !!! These guys are amazing. Petrucci's solo is unbelievable.
Whatever instrument you play,. this should inspire you to get better at it. Utter brilliance.
Absolutely brilliant ! Petrucci is beyond flawless its guitar playin at such a magnetic level .. That opening jam was just mind blowing ! So awesome !
I was still in high school when this came out. A friend lent it to me on CD, and I played it on loop in the background while studying for finals, barely paying attention at first.
I hadn't listened to it before and had no expectations whatsoever. Then, after 3 or 4 full repeats, all of a sudden something clicked. I looked up, I started actively listening to it for a while, and realized I what an absolute masterpiece this is. One of my all time favorite albums ever since.
It's so good, that I actually have fond memories of studying for finals thanks to it LOL.
Pure Petrucciness

Best Shred ever, by the God himself! Thank you, John Petrucci, for inspiring so many musicians, and just being a monster player!
How freakin cool is Tony Levin?! Amazing musicians. Like of all them, obviusly, but I really love him and the way he plays with everybody of every type of music
I still seriously can't get over Tony in this video. He makes it look effortless to play the Chapman Stick like that.
Not only are all the solos from them amazing but can we stop and admire how tasty the riffs and grooves are in this song outta this world good.
This is my first time hearing of or seeing this band....UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE! INSANE TALENT BEYOND MEASURE!
Oh !! How can it be more awesome Petrucci is killing it what a machine
I'm here for like a millionth time.
I love how this performance is second nature to them, considering how skilled they are.
This is some next level song writing skill. What a performance from the guys in Liquid Tension Experiment, every member is absolutely on point. Keep rocking people of UA-cam! 🔥🤘🙌👍👏👊🎶🔥
Mr(s) Sheehan and Petrucci are amazing . Mr. sheehan is by far the greatest guitarist of color I've seen in my 60 plus years; an honor sir
Watching this masterpiece live brings more charm.
THE BEST IVE EVER HEARD PETRUCCI !!!! NO QUESTION !!
All of creation has conspired for these 4 in this very moment. Jesus Christ my face melted 💀🔥🌌
Cant judge a dt song after one listen, i ll be back here after listening it 99 times consecutively
And with Tony Levin, what a treat!
Guiness world Record: "Most difficult song to play... ever!" - Winners: this four insane musicians.
I would say that the title would belong to pi by after the burial. But sure. I can imagine this being just as hard to play.
Someone here isn't aware of the existence of Animals As Leaders. And that's only when it comes to metal
@@saranoxxis I know who they are. I was just praising Liquid Tension Experiment, just that.
Frakcture by King Crimson, Black Page by Frank Zappa and Entre dos aguas de Paco de Lucía. Those are the most difficult pieces of modern music.
First Fragment… look them up.
Crazy play. Amazing
What a extasy of sound, and music !!!
Every one of these musicians are arguably the absolute best in the world at their instrument. And they're in the same band. I don't spin up LTE or DT when I want to hear the best songwriting of all time, but if I just want to be blown away by raw musicianship I really haven't found a better option yet.
They're songwriting is fine. Not every song needs to be written as verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. Progressive rock/metal shouldn't be used to describe a genre but a way of structuring songs differently. Saying a genre is progressive makes little sense since all good music progresses. Its about pushing boundaries not sticking to the same confines as pop music. I'm sure they could write 3-5 minute hits but that's not what they are into.
Awesome! Been a Tony Levin fan since 1981. I did hear a riff very similar to one off of Return to Forever's Romantic Warrior album...
After all these years, they're back :')
Wow!!! That was like an orgy of sound, heavy yet the groove is ass kicking!!!
What a bass man, just awesome.
3 years ago I commented how Petrucci was awesome in this song, I'm here again to say I'm fucking impressed again by his guitar playing
the musicianship is mind blowing.
Hell yeah !! Dream theater !m! Both guitar and keyboard solo Was Insane !m!
Son increíbles!! Como haces para no comparar con cualquier otra banda. Son de otro planeta !!! Son fantásticos
Tighter than two coats of paint. Just amazing!
Petrucci is and forever will be a god on guitar.
Absolutely love it. Talk about a jam session. I came here after seeing a Rick Beato video. That bass player blew me away with his skills so here I am. Unfreekin believable. More please. Finally, something new and worthy of my time
Wow ! !!!!!! Perfect !!!! 😱😱👍
that moment when you realize there's a whole wide world you haven't even met
Damn true QQ
I like to think I'm pretty well educated when it comes to guitar and technique, but to this day, whenever I see Petrucci do his thing at 5:05 I can't believe it. I seriously can't believe he just did that, even though I saw it with my own eyes.
I mean just look at it, it doesn't even look human and I'm not trying to be funny. My words are insufficient to describe it so I'm not even going to try.
That's John Petrucci for you.
Try Guthrie Govan ;)
David Black I love Govan.
awesome,right? :)
It's impressive but I can't hear the notes, the effect sounds like shit in the mix. :/
Still a ear-gasm!, i used to running hearing this master piece.
Petrucci's solo on this one is absolutely lethal.
I’ve never seen anybody make a keyboard look so cool.
I think it's safe to say that while they were active... during the 2nd Album and tour, Liquid Tension Experiment was the greatest band in the world. Not an overstatement.
And So It Goes instrumentally... yeah

I love that happy and content look Tony had at 2:06!!
A pleasure listening to a bunch of top-notch musician play their hearts out - no special effects, no stoopid costumes/makeup, no dancing girls - just playing their asses off! Love it !!! And they're obviously having fun doing it...
