    Fantastic. The dilema about the manual is this guy covers things on "setup" that nobody else covers. Thank you sooo much!

    Jim, it turns out I was just about to buy that very flash, so it was very timely for me to hear the ins and outs of this particular flash. Thank you Jim both informative and timely for me. I would have been very annoyed to not find the problems you went through. This will be very helpful for many people who buy this flash.

    I get tired of people saying the reflector and diffuser are not useful. They ARE if you know how to use them.

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 7 років тому +2

      So true. But you never hear reviewers saying bad thing about B1 diffuser.
      Jim, that flashtube you can handle with bare hand (provided its not hot).
      This has a safety glass dome over the flashtube.
      While the round flashtube should be handle with glove, cloth or clean after touching it.

      Jim.....They're also great with a diffuser on them in small portrait situations. I might have been taking you too seriously, but I keep seeing the same comment about the deflectors time and again. In your defense, I will add....."if the shoe fits, wear it." The lights are great and the HSS capability is priceless!! I have three 600's and two 360's. Indoors and outdoors are no problem with these lights!

    The good thing about Adorama's Flashpoint version is all the acessories you get with it and the bag. Those are all extras if you buy the "original" Godox branded version. The screen is also different colours depending on the branding.

    You said you don't like using the jog dial to select groups -- no problem, you can change the "operating method" by holding down the CH button for 5 seconds. With the alternate method ("Method 2"), you choose groups by clicking the GR button, then use the jog dial to change the group's setting. I prefer the default "Method 1," but at least you have a choice! This info wasn't in my Flashpoint printed manual, but IS in the downloadable manual available on the Godox website..

    ATG & Edward with Godox backing have done it again.
    These have put a big dent into Profoto B1, Phottix Indra500, Quantum & Pocket Wizard.
    So many beginners, hobbyists and amateurs (claimed pros that are working and shooting at home) can now use their amateur cameras like those SLT-A99v, A7 & A6000 series to get great results of full radio control ATG's TTL and manual light powers.
    So good buy to these weak candlelight flashes (600EX-RT, SB-910, HVL-F60M) that always provide harsh lighting.
    ATG/CheetahStand/Godox (not spaying paint for camera stores) are not shipping the Sony version to major camera stores until late July.
    Very nice and sharp video review, Jim.
    Jim, make sure you get the ATG's XP1200 not the XP600 extension head.
    A A1 XP2,400 is only available from ATG. And this is what many pros are willing to pay.

    Jim thank you for the very useful tips! I just purchased one of these lights to go with my Ad360ii's and a pair of V860ii's that I really like. Figured I would go with one bigger light and it looks like this with its modeling lamp will fill the void for a battery powered light in low light. No more carrying around LED panels to light with. Thanks again!

    The "fix" with the clips didn't work because they are plastic. Use a small furniture sticky pad (thin) placed under the slot where keys are inserted. the plastic tabs will never stay in place when pried up. The "pads" will support a 48" Octobox without any play...and will not loosen.

    The strobe doesn't get that hot and its a dome glass on top of the strobe. But some domes are UV coated and a good idea to use clean hands or something to hold it, (dont let it slip!).
    But its not like a halogen bulb and will not effect the heat. Thanks for an informative review. Nice to know about some things you experienced.

    Here's another poorly-documented quirk: You mentioned about the firmware update to keep the modeling lamp from switching off when you press the test button on the transmitter, but after updating the firmware you'll find that it switches off the recycle beeper instead! No worries, it's not a bug -- it's caused by custom function 08 on the transmitter, which turns the beeper on or off. By default it's set to "off" (why???) so all you have to do is set it to "on" and your beeper will keep beeping. This is a capable unit, but some of the default settings Godox chose seem very weird!

    @Jim Setzer, do you have to use their remote trigger/transmitter setup? I normally use the Phottix Odin system which has been really nice. I have always used several TTL Metz speedlights for my setups but I really need something to overcome the sun during midday. I was hoping to keep my current Phottix without having to buy an additional and potentially unnecessary Flashpoint transmitter system. Also, how do the transmitters/receivers plug into the light? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

    • @ImagesbyDesign
      @ImagesbyDesign  6 років тому

      You could put the 580II in optical slave mode and it will fire when it sees the Xplor go off. But it can't be included in any TTL calculations. Or, you could pick up an R2 Receiver and put it on the 580 II shoe then you'd have more control (TTL, power level, etc.) from the R2 Transmitter.

    These new strobes make my Alienbees, and Photogenic Studio Max III's seem like dinosaurs ! With TTL, HHS and Multi, these things work more like speed lights than strobes. I remember when Flashpoint/Godox first came out, I tended to avoid them despite the very attractive price, because they had not been time tested. Now not one day goes by without somebody posting something about a Godox product. It reminds me of when Yongnuo first came out, same thing. Although the features of this Godox flash seem very attractive, one has to wonder how many times one would use them in a studio, especially a small studio ?

    • @ImagesbyDesign
      @ImagesbyDesign  2 роки тому

      Thanks Harry. These continue to be my studio workhorse strobes, 5 years since I bought my first one. I very rarely need a full power pop, so a battery charge usually lasts a few days of shoots.

    I have the Flashpoint Xplor 600 TTL R2 strobe along with the Godox X1 T trigger. Everything works fine except the TTL compensation. I am not able to adjust that from the trigger itself. I have firmware version 2.2 on the strobe and it does not give me an option of choosing sony, just canon and nikon. Not sure if this is the issue. Can you tell me if your trigger can control the TTL compinsation. I'm having such a hard time figuring this out! Thank you and awesome videos! I subscribed!

    • @jimsetzer5780
      @jimsetzer5780 4 роки тому +1

      Hi Joe. First, on the strobe, the setting for Nikon/Canon is only for when you are using optical slave mode so the strobe can understand those signals coming from the on-camera flash. It makes no difference when using radio communications, since X1 normalizes all of the different camera protocols. Since you said Sony, I'll assume you are using the X1 S trigger. Yes, you can compensate TTL. Press the GR button to select the desired group, set the mode to TTL with the MODE button then use the dial to set the amount of TTL compensation. Press the GR button again to apply. Hope this helps. The Godox manuals are translated from Chinese and very hard to follow. Download the manual from Adorama. It's not perfect but explains most things better.

I can lock in the flash output by pressing the FN button for off camera wireless flash utilizing my Phottix Odin HHS system and also adjust the flash output up and down 1/3 stops wirelessly on mutiple Nikon SB800 flashes and it will maintain the same flash output until I unlock the flash lock by pushing the FN button on said Nikon camera body. Here is my problem: The flash only syncs with the iAuto mode for my a7R2 or a6300. In any other mode the flash fires, but not during the time the shutter is open. Any ideas?

    I have 4 Flashpoint Xplor 600 and 2 flashpoint speedligh†s and am very happy with them. I would give them all 5 stars. Is there any way to turn on the lights from the strobes and the speedlights and de-activate one or more from the R2 Transmitter?

    • @jimsetzer5780
      @jimsetzer5780 6 років тому

      If you are talking about the modeling light, you can turn them on/off from the R2 trigger by double tapping the [CH] button. Unfortunately, it broadcasts this to all lights on the trigger's channel so you can't select them individually.

    • @charlesday2570
      @charlesday2570 6 років тому

      What I meant was †o turn on/off the strobe itself. From your answer I gather that this cannot be done

    • @ImagesbyDesign
      @ImagesbyDesign  6 років тому

      Correct. You have to turn them on/off on the strobe body. But if you just leave them on with sleep enabled (essentially what you're asking) I'm guessing the battery would last a week or more waiting for you to wake it up.

    Is the firmware that is on the Godox site the same firmware needed for the Xplor 600 and the transmitter.

    • @frankyvee1
      @frankyvee1 7 років тому

      So I purchased the Flashpoint Xplor 600 TTL model and I'm unable to get my computer to recognize the micro usb port. I want to flash the firmware from 2.2 to 2.3 and when I plug in the usb cable I don't get the USB confirmation sound. However I do get the USB confirmation sound when I plug in my R2 transmitter. I think I have a bad USB port on the Xplor 600B TTL. I'm going to send it back if I don't hear back from Adorama if I'm doing something wrong. I have flashed several other speed-lights ie. TT865 and V860II using the G1 software successfully.

    • @frankyvee1
      @frankyvee1 7 років тому

      Yes I did all those things you mentioned. I even tried different USB cables and different computers one running Win7 & Win10 and nothing was being detected. I sent the strobe back to Adorama today. I will order a new one once I get my refund. Can you point me to where or who is saying there are issues with the firmware ver 2.3 for TTL model. Thank you so much for replying.

      Thnx Jim, I already took the plunge and installed firmware ver 2.3 on my Xplor 600B and all seems to be good. Thanks for the update.

    I've been wanting to get some Einsteins for high speed sync. Any reason I should go with something else instead?

    • @ImagesbyDesign
      @ImagesbyDesign  6 років тому +1

      The advantages the Einsteins have are 1) made in the US - PCB service is excellent 2) T0.1 time of 1/13000" if freezing very fast motion is your thing. If you get the Adorama XPLOR 600s, they will have excellent warranty in the US as well. 2) The T0.1 time at 1/256th power is 1/10000" so pretty darn fast in their own right. 3) the radios are completely built in not like the dorky plug on top module of the Einsteins. 4) much less expensive, and 5) battery fired - I can't say how useful this is both on location and in-studio (less wires to trip over).

      The Einsteins don't have HSS.

      Jim Setzer Yes I see where you addressed it. Also saying "time will tell". I would just like to find a way to make a more snug fit with my modifiers. If you ever hear or see one maybe you could address it to the public! I'm a subscriber!!!

    I've always liked photography as a hobby but just recently decided to take it to the next level. Made an investment:
    • Canon 5D Mark IV, Canon 70-200 2.8L Lens
    • Couple of Canon 600EX-RT II Speedlites with Canon ST-E3-RT Trigger
    • Now expecting a new Flashpoint XPLOR 600 HSS TTL
    QUESTION:
    Will I be able to use my Canon ST-E3-RT Trigger to trigger the XPLOR? Or will the XPLOR's R2 Trigger, trigger my Canon Speedlites?
    Please advise and THANK YOU for your insight!!!

    I have 4 Flashpoint Xplor 600 Strobes R2. When I press the test button on the Transmitter all strobes fire but when I press the shutter release on the camera to take a picture, the flashes don’t fire. I have checked a lot of video tuts and no one mentions this problem. Here are my settings. Chanel 1 on strobes and the transmitter, all strobes on wireless radio, groups used A, B and C, Transmitter switch on and Mode is M on all strobes and transmitter. What am I not doing right? Please advise.

    • @ImagesbyDesign
      @ImagesbyDesign  6 років тому

      Seems like a physical connection problem. Does your camera show that a flash is attached?

    • @charlesday2570
      @charlesday2570 6 років тому

      The R2 is securely mounted on the D810. Where would I find out if the camera sees the flashes.

    • @ImagesbyDesign
      @ImagesbyDesign  6 років тому

      In the viewfinder or on the Info back display you would see a lightning bolt arrow icon that shows the camera recognizes that a flash is installed on the hot-shoe.

    • @charlesday2570
      @charlesday2570 6 років тому +1

      You put your finger right on it. It's a connection problem. I put the R2 transmitter on the camera and turn on the flash, press the release and nothing happens. I don't see the Lightning bolt either. I put my SB910 on the camera the lightening bolt shows and flash fires. This proves that it is not the camera.

      Adorama has very good customer support. If it's under warranty they will replace it (probably just send you another one) and if it's out of warranty, they may agree to sell you a new one at a reduced price.

      Devon, Adorama has bundles if you need a trigger. Otherwise you can buy them separately and there are now three different models of triggers you can buy: The original R2/X1 T that I show in this video, the R2/X1 Pro, (Reviewed at ua-cam.com/video/Hxg4Uu_K1h0/v-deo.html) and the new R2Pro Mk II (Adorama only) (Preview at ua-cam.com/video/BKeGHaGRKLo/v-deo.html with a full review being recorded now.)

      Thanks for the reply. Yep a AC power option would be nice.
      What is the fastest T1 speed for the ad600? Indra's are also around 850$ now I guess?

    • @tubelator
      @tubelator 8 років тому

      Yeh but the indra does 1/15000th t1. Which is a big difference if you like to freeze water/motion. The 1/10000th is almost as fast as the HSS itself.

      "Intended for photographers on the road, the Indra500 TTL Battery Powered Studio Light from Phottix offers a design driven by portability, flexibility and power. Both power cord-free and sync cord-free, the Indra500 is also hassle-free thanks to the Odin receivers for Nikon and Canon cameras built-into every unit.Phottix starts with a flash head with all the qualities of a studio flash such as 500Ws of power, adjustable from 1/128 to full power over an 8-stop range. Recycling time is 0.1 to 2 seconds with the included Li-ion polymer battery and 0.1 - 1 second with the optional AC adapter. Action-stopping flash durations as short as 1/15,000 (t.1) sec. are possible at reduced power settings for freezing splashes or peak-moment sports shots."

    seems a bit complicated. I've been using the profoto's. They really simplified everything and the hss/ettl is even easier then the native canon flash with canon body.
