you prolly dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my gf these days :)
Awesome video. Looking at getting an A1. It looks like the A1 has more noise reduction than the A7siii. In the Cat scene, I could see more detail in the fur while going full screen on my 27" iMac.
Lizzie pretty sure in Cine4 it cleans up at 2000iso. It’s 4 and 1/3 stop above the native iso in all PP and 100iso is native for Cine 4! I could be wrong but 99% sure!
I then did 10 tests at 4K120p and here are 2 of them. 1: Setting: 4:2:2 10bit xavc hs 4k120p 280mm Auto shutdown temperature: standard/high (twice each) 2: Sony Alpha 1 switched off for 3 hours to cool down 3: Room temperature 18 degrees Celsius, start Sony Alpha 1 4: Auto-off temperature/standard Recording time: Overheat protection flag appears at @ Camera overheated and temporarily unusable at @ 5: Cooling continues for 3 hours. Auto shutdown temperature / high Recording time: Overheat protection flag at @ Auto shutdown: high, without further recording A little better than auto shutdown: standard My friend also has a Sony Alpha 1, his room temperature: 22 degrees Celsius, same preset (settings), same cooling time, auto shutdown: standard, start to unrecordable, is 39 minutes, twice as long as my recording time, I would like to confirm if different people have the same model of Sony Alpha 1 with different overheating and different time to record 4K120?! Can you answer this for me?
Being new to Log profiles…. Just wanted to understand, wouldn’t slog(2&3) introduce noise in shadows when used in low light situation from what iv heard, that the slog profiles are best suitable or used in well lit / daytime situations…
The A7SIII and the A1 use the same sensor, the former just uses an older revision of it and does pixel compositing (4 adjacent pixels act as one larger pixel) to get the final ~12MP.
Great job Lizzie! I was not impressed by the A1’s sharpness to be honest but it is such a good all-rounder. Just out of curiosity, why not use Heif 10 bit to test this instead of 8 bit jpeg? Could help pointing out more differences in color dynamics. It still is a huge upgrade to my older A9.
Hi Lizzie! Thank your for this video! I wonder why the A1 always looks out of focus compared to the A7SIII though. Was it out of focus or is it sensor related?
Thank you Lizzie! You mentioned this is jpeg only for the A1, was it also jpeg photo on the a7siii? and what're your thoughts on the raw video output for the A1?
what the hell is the jello effect at certain ISO's at 3:00 in the video? Is it just random timing and your tripod/cam setup is vibrating or does that happen every time with those ISO's?
Thank you for this video.. I havs e both camera .. A1 is noices in lowlight ...i have use both in some project .. i like to use much sony a7siii for lowlight ... thank y
for some reason, there's less detail in the fabric of the chair on the A1 side especially on your Cine-4 test, you might have been a tad out of focus which would skew that test.
I want to see what the cameras do when you throw it in a dark dungeon pitch black basement, and just run that sweet creamy 4K run and gun auto settings. That's what we're here for.
It's pretty clear that when you reduced the image size of the 50MP A1 images to match the abysmal 12MP A7Siii images for this video, you didn't specify a Bilinear or Bicubic Sharper image resample, which is why the A1 images look fuzzy and low-res.
Is that true for video too? Well, it shouldn't bc it's still 4k, but I can't get my head around the fact the 4k video of the cat was so much more mushy than the one with the a7sIII. If it's pixel binning it should be worse but you shouldn't be able to see it without pixel peeping
I've been wanting to see this comparison so I'm stoked that you posted this! Not like I'll get the a1 soon but who knows if by the time I'm ready to upgrade to either the a7siii or the a1 I can choose what would best for me!
@@LizziePeirce i feel like if you're wanting to have a photo first and video relatively second/somewhat first too then the a1 would be great. The a7siii is more for only video in my eyes and photo as a last resource. Still great!
Damn...the A1 really does render the a7riv, A9 AND a7siii obsolete. I guess I just mean it really is the best at everything for a Sony hybrid camera. I’m so tempted to dump the a7siii for this but I always prefer having two bodies 🤔
i still go with the a7siii because of that low light babyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, i'm sorry but i'm so lazy with light manipulating. pop in my a7siii as my streaming, weddings and i don't have to worry about anything
Nice work Lizzie I would be interested to see how some long exposures at low ISO look. Thanks for sharing, already liked and subbed, when it's time for my to leave GoDaddy I promise I will use your squarespace link. 😉👍
Enjoyed that you two were outside freezing your as*es off in TO while I got to watch this amazing test on the big screen in 4K with popcorn & too much wine by a crackling fire on Vancouver Island! THX!!! Sony's nailed it with this one. I have my cabin up for sale so I can buy one, and selling both cars so I can get a couple of those G Master lenses. All we really need here is my mountain bike anyway right! However... this True North scientific test doesn't mean much to me as I shoot Panasonic (because I know how to focus;) eh. Luv your channel! Cheers
I know you said not to look for sharpness but,.. did you have any trouble focusing with the A1?? maybe the lens? all shots look a little less sharp than the A1, any comment? really it would freak me out if the A1 was softer than de A7,... great video by the way, as wedding filmmaker the A7 doesn´t seem to have much sense, I rarely use more than Iso6000. Thank you very much!!!
Not into video BUT stills comparison just wow think you can skip the video stuff and just a stills and something in astro Milky Way never above 6400 even with a f/4 because shadows and detail are so easy to bring out. and even the old 1635 has no coma and with NPF rule no star trailing!
Are the photo/image tests sony A1 jpegs vs. Sony A7Siii raw files? Just thinking jpeg fixes noise in camera. Is this raw vs raw? Thanks in advance for any reply.
The photo comparison seems more like a difference in NR than in noise. The A1 seems to have less noise in the blacks only because the JPEGs have such strong NR. I assume the a7s3 photos were raw since the noise texture seemed much better preserved than JPEGs usually do. I've found from lots of testing of Sony mirrorless cameras that you have to pay as much attention to noise reduction as noise since Sony uses extremely aggressive noise. It is very effective at removing noise but you have to look at detail very carefully and look for very smudged detail. The a7s3 likely outperforms the a1 at high ISOs even in stills given how little detail appears to be retained on the a1 despite low visible noise.
Did we like this or do I have to go outside and freeze my but off again in the future?
No, no. You’re good!
you prolly dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my gf these days :)
@Abdullah Daniel yup, have been using instaflixxer for since november myself :)
Gerald - Let him do his thing 😂😂😂 Why did this kill me so much. We can’t complete with that wizard
Seriously why even try hahaha
Haha you’re amazing 🥲 love this video!!
Great camera test Lizzie, thanks!
this is the the video I’ve been waiting for!
I GOTCHU
I hear ya about filming in this Canadian weather, especially last week during the polar vortex!
I'm so over it! But the snow sure looks pretty out my window
Yes that's definitely a positive! Makes for some great drone footage too
For grain, just use neatvideo to clean it up.
Great video! Big fan! Woot woot!
My favorite A1 review video ! Super glad I found your channel
Subbed... Very cool video. Love the comparisons, the references to other creators, and your whole style/vibe. Good stuff. 👍
Awesome video. Looking at getting an A1. It looks like the A1 has more noise reduction than the A7siii. In the Cat scene, I could see more detail in the fur while going full screen on my 27" iMac.
The banding is CRAZY... What did you shoot in ? 8bit?
Just got my a1 last week - to replace my a7R3 and a9. I also shoot from Riverdale across the river. A lot. Since I live there. I'm loving this camera!
I think atmospheric affects had an impact on perceived noise in this test.
Finally!!! SOMEONE UPLOADED THIS!

Lizzie, does the A7S3 in April 2023 now with Cinetone offer any advantage over the A1? Thanks for your time.
I then did 10 tests at 4K120p and here are 2 of them.
1: Setting: 4:2:2 10bit
xavc hs 4k120p
280mm
Auto shutdown temperature: standard/high (twice each)
2: Sony Alpha 1 switched off for 3 hours to cool down
3: Room temperature 18 degrees Celsius, start Sony Alpha 1
4: Auto-off temperature/standard
Recording time: Overheat protection flag appears at @
Camera overheated and temporarily unusable at @
5: Cooling continues for 3 hours.
Auto shutdown temperature / high
Recording time: Overheat protection flag at @
Auto shutdown: high, without further recording
A little better than auto shutdown: standard
My friend also has a Sony Alpha 1, his room temperature: 22 degrees Celsius, same preset (settings), same cooling time, auto shutdown: standard, start to unrecordable, is 39 minutes, twice as long as my recording time, I would like to confirm if different people have the same model of Sony Alpha 1 with different overheating and different time to record 4K120?!

Good comparison. Thanks for this video.
Cinetone announced via firmware update for A7Siii today!
I think there was news today of S-Cinetone coming to A7S III as a firmware update!
tq gerald undone for his urge to sony to put it there
this was a great test and video. Liked and subscribed!
So a7siii is still better in low light video usability then? The skyscrapers at the beginning, the A1 lost a lot of detail compared to the a7siii
Personally I felt like the A1 at 12800 had a lot more noise than the as7siii
This was so helpful, thank you!
06:42 indoor photo jpg test !! A1 is better. No wonder A7s3 has a little more noise than A7R2 in photo in general. Nice comparison.
thank you! I look forward to see more with the A1!

Loved this. Thank you so much! It helps.
Cool test! Good job
Thanks for this! Interesting to see how the low light performance of both of these cameras side by side.
Also, CBC news vibe lol
Does the ISO still matter if you shoot in RAW?
Global rule: No light, no movies ! ☺️

Should 12,800 be the minimum iso or the maximum iso ?
Hi Lizzie! Thank your for this video! I wonder why the A1 always looks out of focus compared to the A7SIII though. Was it out of focus or is it sensor related?
You can clearly tell she didn’t focus correctly. Safe to say user error not sensor related.
Thank you Lizzie! You mentioned this is jpeg only for the A1, was it also jpeg photo on the a7siii? and what're your thoughts on the raw video output for the A1?
This was my only question. Thank you!
Great review! Very interesting results. Keep up the great work. :)
Awesome comparison !! thanks so much ... and i note: The cat sleeps better with the a7siii :D
Lizzy: A1 vs. AS7III Low Light Test

but which is better from 1000 to 3200?
what the hell is the jello effect at certain ISO's at 3:00 in the video? Is it just random timing and your tripod/cam setup is vibrating or does that happen every time with those ISO's?
Was really waiting for the “This ISO may be bright, but not nearly as bright as Chris’s smile” joke.
omg you're a genius. Why didn't I consult you!!!!
Thank you for this video..

yeah but what were you shooting on during the beginning introduction outside??
Do a7siii have noise reduction at 12800 for stills?
for some reason, there's less detail in the fabric of the chair on the A1 side especially on your Cine-4 test, you might have been a tad out of focus which would skew that test.
Thank you for you video, is any good photography school or course in Toronto?
I want to see what the cameras do when you throw it in a dark dungeon pitch black basement, and just run that sweet creamy 4K run and gun auto settings. That's what we're here for.
is cinitone or s log 3 better for most flexibity and data when color grading?
Intro be like 6:15 pm news shot from tower
It's much warmer out here! Come visit!
Is A7s3 obsolete now?
It's pretty clear that when you reduced the image size of the 50MP A1 images to match the abysmal 12MP A7Siii images for this video, you didn't specify a Bilinear or Bicubic Sharper image resample, which is why the A1 images look fuzzy and low-res.

im sad that the a1 just kicked my dream cameras behind but its okay i’m still buying the a7s3
Great video! Thanks for putting in the work. Your approach definitely puts a smile on all our faces!

A7siii video in low light is better.
There's no point looking at the photos, even a7iii beats up a7siii in photos.
Love your videos!!!!!!!!!
Ooo this is super interesting, I would bet the a7siii would be better in lowlight! Excited to find out! 💯✔️🔥

what about using a speedbooster
the UA-cam compression is driving me insane. I see a lot of pixelized gradients!
cine 4 cleans up at 12,800 iso???? hmmm. i think its only slog3

Yup, I'm wondering if she used jpegs for the A1 versus raw for as7iii..I hope not because the results were pretty great.
A1 is monstrous
no bears were harmed in the making of this video :p
Science!
Added in a bear for texture 😂
Looks like 99% of all youtubers related to cameras are Canada based :)
How many of you just hate these comparisons and the cameras failing even tho you can’t afford them 😂😂😂😂😢
Hi Lizzie 😊
Its 1am in morning thanks for clearing that up.
Hey Lizzie , how ya doin' ? hope you and Chris are ok :-)
We're doing well thank you :)
Thanks for the comparison lizzie
bear modeling now ha (:
NICE 👍
Don't bother doing the disclaimer, everybody's doing that nowadays. I'm feeling like: OK get on with it pls.
use 10bit... the banding is just disgusting. yt clearly prefers 10bit and makes it clean.
That banding is so bad, The A1 doesn’t look the same as the A7s3 at 128000 iso
Is poopoo 💩 a technical term? Shout out to Julia!! Otherwise, too expensive. Cheers!
