Sony A7sIII - My Extended Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 сер 2024
- I had about 2 months to try out the amazing Sony A7siii, and here are my unbiased, honest thoughts (and lots of footage). I've filmed with Sony mirrorless cameras for almost 10 years now, so this camera is kind of a big deal for me. I had very high expectations, and the a7siii rocked it. Great job Sony! Thank you Kobe for always being there for me.

I love that this review isn't a guy talking to the camera but instead actually showing us footage from the camera
absolutely agree, I am not really interested in what is possible in theory as much as I really want to know the on set/on the go experience :)
Sometimes there is so much info to get across you’ve got to talk to camera. I had to script it and teleprompter it and I never do that as there was SOOOOO much to cover. Brandon really has made one hell of a beautiful review though! :)
So trueee 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Exactly my sentiments!
yes love that, this way we see how it performs while getting to know it
💪
Outstanding video, Brandon! Loved it. Great job! 🤓👍💜
Best moment: "I'm not Gerald Undone."
Gerald Undone, he's crazy!
Thanks Gerald! Loved your ultra-comprehensive review!
Gerald is actually crazy 😅, I’m glad all other gear reviewers respect your hustle
This man shot like 3-4 usable, beautul ads easily for this test god damn. Your shots are always so good, very nice test really admire your work 🙏🏻
I'm just laughing about the little "He's crazy" when you say you aren't Gerald Undone.
1:53
Even his intro says he is crazy
@@ShiroiRyuu24 that's why I love it so much. I immediately heard his intro song.
Hahaha true...
these video guys have reached the limit of their barrel borders. Now, they are all starting to cross-mention each other. Rats in the same barrel, looking for a new audience, avoiding eating each other.
Its actually scary how he is doing all by himself. No hired help. Just him moving a bunch of things and shooting different stuff. Very underrated
You are killing me with that color. It’s gorgeous
I barely comment on videos but this was lit, this is how a camera review should go down.. Well done!!
@@guerrerosdigitales younger than your girlfriend!
Sony doesn’t need a marketing team. They only need Brandon Li
lol One reason I switched to Sony was that they seem to cater to the content creators like no other company was doing for a while (except Blackmagic).
@@Deep-Travel Huh..... hmmmm So Canon and Panasonic does cater to content creators? Your comment is very biased.
Honestly Brandon Li's review feels like a review and nothing like the same thing ive gotten used to seeing through other channels. I'll get the R5 besides this as well but this was worth watching.
@@terrygriffin5201 what he meant was Sony is knocking it out the park with the a7siii in layman's terms 😛
so true
Love this Brandon! Great work!
Amazing review! love this, very practical! thank you~!
Been watching this channel for a month now... Fantastic straightforward reviews and tutorials, not a moment wasted.
Really great Brandon! Gorgeous footage!
I would avoid XAVC HS for now, especially in 422 as current graphics cards can’t decode it. 420 they can. XAVCS 120p is a better codec for now :)
Thanks Philip, I wish I had known this. Loved your review as well
Thanks, Philip.
May i know where can I find info about such hidden things?
kiranjotsingh malhotra you find it out after using it for many weeks!
Oh`
I thought there's blog/forum or something.
Btw your channel is amazing too, subscribed 🙂
Wouldn't you just then make proxies?
Amazing review Brandon. Anyone who makes YT videos knows A LOT of work went into that.. Super easy to understand review! Great job!
You are so honest. For UA-cam, that incredibly refreshing. Thank you !
Fantastic video, review, and pacing, thank you for not rushing anything, doing edit skips on your reviews and angles, and relaxing music as well that just makes you appreciate the content and camera even more.
Probably the most decent review i’ve seen in a while. Love the honest ending at the closure. You got me interested in your channel!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Love this video and review Brandon! Great work! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is a brilliant review, Brandon. You covered all the bases in a way that a working professional can appreciate. Between you, Gerald and Philip, we have been treated to some amazing content surrounding this camera. I should also mention that I love your filmmaking style. It feels fresh and unique which is no small achievement in this day and age. I recently moved back to smaller cameras after running with big setups for years - RED, FS7, Ursa Mini etc. None of them ever made me feel as happy as the A7SIII does. It just gets out of the way. Total creative freedom. And I think that is what a tool should do - empower the creator.
THIS is the type of review I LOVE. I cannot stand the reviews where people sit in front of cameras and just talk about the tech features, and show me the body of the camera. They literally show me little other than unrealistic autofocus tests. THIS review on the other hand shows me real life practical day to day uses for the camera from a filmmaking point of view.
Thank you for also talking about the profile, grading and the lenses you used for each shot. This was video was both informational AND inspirational. Great work Brandon!
This is by FAR the best review on the 7siii that's been made.
Wow what a superb ending. A really important message you added at the end there, and one that is all to often forgotten!
Thanks for all your videos Brandon.
Stunning review...I knew Brandon would be the one to really show what we can expect from this camera. Bravo, sir.
This is the best review i have seen so far. Amazing work, and thank you for taking the time to show us not just tell us. Brilliant!
By far my favorite review of the Sony A7sIII yet! Thank you for the mountain of sample footage, especially showing us the real world dynamic range performance.
This is the kind of review that I need. "Show me, don't just tell me". Thanks, Brandon!
The end is the most important part of this review!
I'm blown away by quality of your video. I've seen hundreds of tech reviews, but Your way shocked me. No talking heads, stopmotion to show in/out of focus, PiP with zoomed head, elegant graphical design of whole video. Man, really new quality in tech review. Chapeau bas.
Your reviews are so in-depth! Thank you for this.
You're insane. Such quality for a review, loving your content.
Loved it Brandon!! You have an excellent approach to reviewing gear from a creative perspective. Also thanks for the fun collab on grading and the shoutout! That 10-bit footage can be stretched a long ways!! Cheers!
You’re the man @photogabi
The review I’ve been waiting for! Thanks for this!
The best tech creative review I’ve ever seen. Got my A7Siii arriving next week and proper excited by this.
19:30 Kobi calling to say she is tired of doing the modeling for new camera reviews 🤣Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the A7SIII.

据说最近被举报了 一都好吧?
I'll never be able to watch a review the same way again. You just took it to another level. Well done!
Great work Brandon! Your videos are always a pleasure to watch.
To be honest, it would be such a relief and load off just to shoot standard profile and have to do minimal coloring. I really liked the HLG profiles on the A7III, so i might go with that unless i REALLY need Slog3. Great review, amazing footage. Thanks.
after shooting with bm cameras, i'm a sucker for flat footage. it is what we use for work, and so i'm like sold on the idea of log footage now. the standard did look nice in the footage. agreed, super review here!
Still waiting for mine... After watching this one the waiting gets harder every day😅
Great review!
Great Great Great Brandon!! Amazing footage! Love your work man!
best review so far! thanks brandon
Left Brain + Sony A7S III Review = Gerald Undone
Right Brain + Sony A7S III Review = Brandon Li
Incredible work, man. And the kind of landscapes you have access to... holy shit!
And Philip Bloom, a mix of both ? lol
Phillip is maybe more story and feeling (and then technical AF tests featuring cats)
Loved this video, super informative! What kind of mic set-up did you use while filming the talking parts and did you notice any autofocus noise (without a mic)? Thanks!!
Thanks! Comica Boom X-U microphone, AF did not make any noise
Great video showcasing different color palates and camera actions. I just watched it over and over couple times lol. Thinking of getting one, now convinced a must buy for my project. Thanks Brandon
I really appreciate including the examples shots where the auto focus was challenged. That was very helpful. Loved the entire review. And I'm not really a Sony guy. Yet. What a fantastic effort on your part to put this together. Much appreciated. If Gerald is the tech nerd, you are the run and gun nerd. Plenty of love here for Mr. Bloom and Kasey as well. You guys are awesome.
and THAT is how you do a camera review. Lots of sample footage. So much effort went into this.
Your grade has improved a lot! Also the ProMist filters are making your footage much better
Very little color grading on most of this footage. Yeah I like the promist
hands down the best review of the a7siii!!! amazing work on this Brandon Li :) this is what camera reviews should be!! :) actual real life shooting scenarios all explained and awesome crazy footages as well!! big fan of your work!
My man this is hands down one of the best if not the best review I've even seen, beautifully done. Cheers my guy
The two reviews I needed yours and Gerald's.
yep
Add Philip Bloom's review and you have a nice trilogy.
Speaking of Gerald...why does everyone else skip over ISO 16000 when testing the ISO on this camera? After Gerald showed the big improvement in noise when you move from 12800 to 16000, this is the ISO I'm most interested in seeing during any ISO test.
who is gerald?
Ashmaterial search for a UA-camr channel called Gerald Undone. He’s really good, very technical most of the time, but really useful
best review, amazing footage. thanks bro.
여기서 볼줄이야...오늘의 카메라부터 보시죠
Dude, your review was captivating. I love this style of review a whole lot more. Thank you!
you went above and beyond with this review and I appreciate it so much!
What no one here seems to understand is that Brandon could make cell phone footage look stunning. Thank you.
Appreciate that ethics statement more than you could ever know. This rule (should be a law to be honest) should be upheld to a MUCH tighter regard on UA-cam's end. It is disgusting that huge youtubers are able to deceive their millions of subscribers by uploading content that was entirely paid for or sponsored and then playing it off as if its an honest review or a product they picked up with their own money.
So thank you for the integrity and here's to hoping that this is the new standard for all youtube content creators.
Which UA-camrs?
@@drgjengdahl2709 The Northrups play that game with their viewers
@@hubbablahloo1843 do you have evidence? Or just suspicious🤔
@@drgjengdahl2709 can't "prove it" per say but they follow the same set of behaviours youtubers in other parts of the site that got caught doing promotions without being up front about it. If you go over to "Flash Film Academy" he did a video about this very thing.

Very helpful review Brandon! Love the film scenes you did as well.
Always some of the best filmmaking videos on UA-cam Brandon 👍
Didn’t disappoint on this one. Excellent.
10:46 made me have tears in my eyes.
I'm buying this asap.
Seriously when you did the comparison with Dynamic range. Standard and then Slog3. I Litterly went shook at how clean and good the image looked.
i was "holy shit. sold" lol
You liked the slog3 better?
@@guerrerosdigitales he is admiring the standard mode
Why is there a weird artifact pattern on the back wall? Grading makes it less obvious, but it is still visible, especially in Slog3.
your videos have always been worth watching..love how simplified your videos are..
Your videos are always stunning 💗💗💗. Watching this from a large screen just makes me wow
love gerald undone reference... you tube today it's like infinity war cross over... I Love It
6:35 wow, wth is that? I really like this shot.
This was a very helpful review. Huge thank you!
Best review on UA-cam, really enjoyed it!
Love this video
6:53 beautiful shot. I love a review that shows extensive footage rather than talk about it. That standard profiles looks even better now. The shadow recovery looked great! For documentary work, that could be a great option. The Catalyst software stabilisation deep dive review is pretty exciting. Software stab is where its at, its far superior now..with the GoPro and iPhone as huge examples. Please Sony just integrate it onto FCPX!
Fcpx integration would be a dream!
Such a great video, Brandon!!
Best review I've seen in a long time. So creative!
Great Review Brandon, thanks for all the effort going into it!!
In regards to the editing performance 7:44
There are 3 Codec Options (XAVC-HS , XAVC-S & XAVC-I) it is a bit of a misconception of a lot of people that these offer different image quality (they might differ slightly in some very fine motion detail like rain or forest leaves). Really these codecs offer different workflow-choices (filesize/editing performance)
XAVC-HS is meant to give you small filesize with its efficient compression but the editing performance of it is terrible.
XAVC-I will give you great editing performance (similar to ProRes which is an All-Intra Codec aswell) without need for proxies but you'll have really big files (and in scenes with a lot of movement and fine detail the compression could be better).
XAVC-S is sort of in the middle: the filesize should be within the other two and the editing performance is not great but allright.
So i think you should never choose your framerate depending on the editing performance. It's a creative choice after all and there are plenty of codec options to support your desired workflow.
in fact HAVC-HS (H.265) edits very smoothly on current Macbook Pro line (both last Intel core i9 and the new M1Pro and Max) while the 10 bit h.264 has more issues there
1:10 I can't listen to this song without thinking of the team deakins podcast
Ah that's what it's from!
This is so detailed and very helpful. Nowadays it's so confusing with which camera system to go, and these kinds of reviews are priceless. Keep up the great work 👍
dude it just like watching a fantastic movie when watching ur UA-cam review, thanks a lot for making this video!
I hope Kobe's getting paid for all these acting shoots she's been on. Great review my dude 🙌 I'm stoked to see the video on the catalyst stabilization
Standard profile definitely looks better to my eye than SLog, no matter how you edit it. I find the same thing happens with many cameras. Sometimes those flatter profiles don't necessarily give you more "latitude" as promised, but they're just flatter and softer profile curves. I notice this with the GH5 as well, no matter what approach I take to grading if I shoot their extremely flat Vlog profile I can never quite pull that data back to where the cine-D would have been. Perhaps shooting 12 bit could fix that, but it does beg the question how "flat" of a profile is truly necessary in order to get a good shot. If the standard doesn't look good then there is a good chance it's just not a great shot to begin with.
You need greater skill to deal with log formats. Brandon's not a technical grader or colorist.
I'd personally only use it in combination with a technical LUT like Leeming to bring it back to REC 709 and not have to do everything by hand.
@@rsmith02 Yeah absolutely, it takes a lot more effort, time, and skill. Skill of which even if you do possess it still takes a lot of time and value matching to get right, so for a lot of people it's just not worth the effort when a standard natural or flatter profile out of the camera looks so excellent to begin with. Like CineD on the GH5 for example, or natural flat on the Nikons.
Nice review man! Loved it!
Me imaging the days of filming and editing that went into this.. wow man! Thanks for making this for us! I can't wait to use this thing for my channel
I noticed something very strange, at 12800 ISO there's quite a bit of noise but suddenly when it jumps up to 25600 the image is clean again.
How?
its the dual ISO, at 12800 the second native ISO kicks in which makes it cleaner
@@azizadmary5118 there is no dual iso. the camera just boosts its noise reduction at that iso
@@jimiernola8540 I'm pretty sure it actually has dual ISO...
@@draedan5161 it does not have dual native ISO
@@jimiernola8540 why would they do boost abruptly at a random ISO? If it were so they'd just bump it up gradually in proportion as ISO goes up. This is a dual ISO sensor.
maaan, there are tons of effort in here. respect. thanks for this sincere review.
