- • Contra set, couples facing each other in lines with gentlemen on callers right
• 6 to 12 couples per set.
• The top of the set is the end nearest the dance caller or the source of the music.
• Count off by couples, 1-2-1-2-1-2 to the bottom. Also termed "take hands 4 from the top".
• 1s are called "active" and progress down the set; 2s are "inactive" and progress up the set; at the ends wait out one cycle then resume as the other couple.
• Gentlemen face down the set; ladies face up the set
A rigadoon step pattern uses four counts: left, right, bounce, bounce.
1) slight hop in place, extending your L foot diagonally forward and L, heel tapping the floor and toe pointing up.
2) slight hop in place, extending your R foot diagonally forward and R, heel tapping the floor and toe pointing up.
3) slight hop in place, both feet together.
4) slight hop in place, both feet together.
The dance starts at any time, in 4/4 time.

The dance repeats from the beginning.
As a music teacher trying to visualize the steps as written in some of these books, videos like this are my savior. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense until you see it!
Awesome. One can't say enough about how great this is, how great the dancers are, every single one of them.
I came for the music and stayed for the dancing. ❤❤💛💙
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!
Fantastic! Everyone happy and damn good dancers. I'm smiling my head off!
That's dancing! Simple, active, and a heck of a lot of fun.

I adore this: good social fun, with people of all ages and shapes joining in
This must be the best way to get at some good exercise. I did some square dancing in my time and it was so much fun. Physical and mental exercise put together in a special package. Too bad someone decided it was not "cool" anymore and it is gradually fading away. These are our "roots". Our society is getting so sedentary because we spend too much time pushing buttons and not enough time dancing.
The song of the goblet of fire also call quidditch world cup
Remembering p.e. classes in jr hi 1961😊 We were reluctant to learn these old folk dances because we thought it was dumb. Looking back, we did enjoy the workout and sometimes we were partnered with the cute boy we had a crush on.
I think I'll teach my great grandchildren how to do this.
It's always as nice way to meet people...
OMG this is the cutest video that I've seen so far 😍😍
The first couple moved just like fairies gliding over the forest floor. Amazing!
Yes,they were light on their feet
Cool!!!
Awesome!!!
I wish I could join you.
This reminds me of when I use to go barn dancing as a kid, not the same as this. But still just as fun!
This brings me so much joy to watch!
So much fun to watch this. I used to do English Country Dance, which has many of these steps. Now that I'm old and feeble, I can barely hobble through a nice slow pavanne.
Bellissimo Mi piace !
Very joyful
very nice! Thanks for posting!!
Looks like a lot of fun
Amazing
Loved, loved, loved this.
Am I the only one who thinks this song is perfect for the Good People (Na Daoine Maithe)
That's awesome.
Awesome !
This looks like fun.
I want to learn this choreography (and it is great to be Celtic).

How very lovely. I loved it kids!
The red head guy in the green t shirt is a really good dancer.
And so is his partner.
so fun!
Okay, now I'm just imagining Skulduggery Pleasant dancing this wayXD
Just like the Harry Potter and the goblet of fire the quidditch world cup

Does the 2 couple who ends up sitting out at the end then become a 1? I am confused on this part and can’t seem to work it out completely
Are you using recorded music for the dance in this video? If so, can I ask what the recording is? Thanks

What is wrong with the picture?
The dancing is not that cool, but I would like to dance it
Why is it not cool. Are you gay or something.
It’s not Irish dancing, just skipping to the music.
not a good size of image. And the moves are always the same.
That's the point of a pattern dance, and this video is basically just for teaching purposes.
