I can see your point, I'm from Ireland and for it to be traditionally Irish it would be much faster. But the Russian elements make it very interesting 🙂
This is absolutely lovely! As a retired Irish dancer married to a Russian man, I found it very interesting to hear Russian-influenced Irish music and see Russian-influenced Irish dancing! For example, the scoops with the arms are not what you would see with traditional Irish technic, nor were some of the moves when there were gaps between the legs (when they were in parallel instead of an overcrossed fifth position, with a triangle-shaped gap between knees and ankles). Also, the bows at the end were Scottish style (Irish dance doesn't use second position or plies). But whoever choreographed the dance obviously was very familiar with traditional Irish dancing. Really amazing work!
Yes, you are right, the choreographer danced in RiverDance, and before that in the Ensemble of Igor Moiseev, Higher choreographic education received at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography (mga), and he began as a child in the same children's ensemble named after Loktev.
@@AntonGloba That is so interesting! Thank you for your response! I love the Russian dance in Riverdance, so it was awesome to see these two styles combined.

Speaking only of what I saw here. Little Russian girls performing an Irish dance. Like someone speaking a language not their own with a beautiful accent.

These instances are called cultural appropriation, which is RACIST, and it happens more often than you think.

So much thought and practice went into this. Even the height of each girl was factored into the choreography... For example when they broke into two groups dancing in a circle.... Each girl that came together were height matched... The entire thing is really impressive...

You're right! This is because Russians know how to transform the culture of any nation into Russian classics! It is a pity that Europeans and Americans have a prejudice against the Russians "bear, vodka, balalaika." Using this dance as an example, you can see that the Russian people have a really high culture!

The tune is Irish but the the arrangement sounds very Russian. Interesting.
Edit: to everyone commenting, obviously this is due to the fact that it’s a Russian group performing an Irish dance (I did read the title of the video). My point was that the result is interesting.
It says, Loktev ensemble. That's a russian surname. So probably it is composed by a russian person.
Yes, it’s Irish dance performed by Russian ensemble
aoitennyo that was my first thought! I took a little Irish dance and my first thought was...whoa, this sounds 100% like a Russian adaptation. Fascinating.

Absolutely amazing! The dancers, the musicians, and the music. They deserve a standing ovation.

Maddie - I was just wondering what the Russian dancers had to do with Irish dancing...thanks
What a fascinating blend of Irish steps and formations with Russian Classical Technique and Training! Bravo, girls!
Those were my thoughts. I'm a primarily Irish dancer who has some exposure to Russian folk dancing. And it's clear that they're primarily Russian folk dancers in the way they execute the movements, but they're also fantastics athletes and dancers in general.
I was a Ukrainian dancer and wholly agree with all these comments.

Its acculturation.

@@AdiiraKuro Sometimes, Americans use other cultures to look cool and "exotic" and don't care about honoring the culture. Sometimes, they mock a person for his/her cultural food and clothing, and then later, they post sns pictures of themselves eating that food and wearing those clothes to look cultured and sophisticated. These instances are called cultural appropriation, which is RACIST, and it happens more often than you think.
