I get the genuine impression that you just decided to make a video on a game that you liked, which is something a lot of other small creators miss when they're desperately scrambling to do something wacky for more views. You still have some habits I don't like (transitions are a bit dubious) but considering the kind of high effort videos you're attempting and the frequency of uploading, I think you're doing absolutely terrific. 😃

Ah, it's one of these days when I get the urge to start a new EU IV campaign because I bought 3 DLCs and there were 4 patches since the last one. Then I think about my obligations to my kids, my marriage and society and instead decide to rather watch another random "EU IV in 20XX" review instead. Mr. Toastoffire, I have to congratulate you. This one was the best and most entertaining I've ever watched. Your references to Dunning-Kruger and Marxism also helped me understand why I like this game so much. And "All war is based" is the most I've laughed in weeks. In fact, this was so entertaining that I might now have to actually subscribe to your channel ... and actually start that new EU IV campaign anyway. You win some you lose some, I guess.
Kudos to the great description of the game. As an eu4 player who recently reached the 2100 hour mark, the music comment is far too real. I can't remember when I decided to just turn off the music forever, it was just a long time ago. The game never gets boring as the next match can be very diverse from the current one, but boi aint it a timesucker

and my most recent fun campaign was a month ago as poland. with 3 mates playing the expanded modset with some hardcore AI the ottomans declared war on me which was a big mistake as i had managed to stack about 90+ ish cavalry combat ability the winged hussars arrived
You do a great job of keeping a balance between getting into (interesting) details and not turning it into a newcomer guide, it's very enjoyable to watch
For a lot of people who mainly play the multiplayer, they never buy the DLC's, since the aspect of the game they find most interesting will already have a host with them anyways. However occasionally they want to either host themselves or play something in singleplayer, for which the subscription service is more usefull. Though I think its only Europa Universalis and Crusader kings 2 for which you'd need to have the subscription for more than 7 months to equal the costs of the DLC's, the others have a lower number of them since a lot of features are just part of the free updates
The Algorithm is drawing viewers to you, like me. I really appreciate this sort of comedic video game reviews. Admittedly there are similar, more popular reviewers I am more familiar with, but you have your own style and vibe and that's great to see. Thank you for these vids!
What I really like about this game is that it doesn't why away from all of these horrible historical events like slavery, ethnic cleansing, genocide, razing & pillaging. And mass murder on an industrial scale in a pre-industrial setting. I always return to this game about once a year.

Nah I don't really play with mods. I think Paradox games function best within their niche, so you'd play crusader kings for the medieval politicking, europa universalis for the colonialism, hearts of iron for the wartime logistics, etc. If you don't like/can't get into EU4, I don't think mods will really help.
Actually Europe is quite Europe centralised game, in late game as asian country player I often suffer. The reason is not that I can't cath up and be on par, with all odds on approximately same level, europeans still will be stronger as mil tech goes further. In the beginning attack and defence amount is the same for any place. Africa, eurasia and america has the same around 2 or 3 total points on attack and defence, but on mil tech 20 there will be difference in 5 to 10 points, which will allow european to wipe asses of the far natives, as long as dice and size is not against them. I personally played around 60 hours before I realised that converting to your faith is quite important. And yes, I know this video was published a year ago, just wanted to tell it.
I liked HOI4 & Stellaris both.. but EU4 idk I can ever get into.. maybe with the subscription service I might give it a try for how darn cheap it is..even if I absolutely hate the idea of it.
I know right! It feels like such a scam, but it's also the cheapest thing paradox has ever made. The steam subscription will auto-renew though so be careful about that, I didnt realize until after finishing the video

It was for the sake of the "four X's joke", and being able to break up the video accordingly. Those 4 Xs are the major thrust of the gameplay, so I wouldn't say it's a misnomer.

Never really could get into this game. Probably because it focuses too much on map painting. Unlike CK2 or Vicky 2 which gets you more immersed in the world. Recentlt picked up Hoi4, which i taught would be like EU4, but the immense mods in the game make it enjoyable. The amount of stories written by people is insane. Games like TNO allow you to not even play.And you can also dont touch combat just by battleplanning to victory.
There are two mods I would recommend if you want a more immersive experience in eu4. Anbennar, an original setting, fantasy total conversion. It has a lot more emphasis on guiding you through the story of your nation, and there's a lot to dig into with the setting. The other one is meiou & taxes, though fair warning the mod has pushed the game far beyond what is was meant to be capable of so it runs quite slow, but if you can get passed that it's an extremely indepth and rather complicated look at the time period with an emphasis on nation building as much or more so than conquest.
@@ordinalchaos Anbennar actually got me back into EU4. Felt more like playing CK2 lol, I was super sad when CHAD JADDAR died. That guy is a legend, and the memes about him going to spread his faith while banging other species is epic. But I eventually lost interest in the campaign as Jaddar died, and the mission tree felt a little stale. I lost connection with my nation's leader. It's just some random person I thought of as Jaddar's heir, and I felt less immersed. Honestly, I thought Jaddar's daughter would inherit lol, but it being some random guy just took me out.

Considering the impact they have on my gameplay, you would think that more attention would be given in humanizing them . But unfortunately they're just a faceless number. I miss Gigachad Jaddar. I did heard of Meiou and taxes, especially of its complexity and similarity to vicky 2. Like im no pro, im actually a noob who doesnt know how to handle estatss and stuff,i dont know whether ill be able to pick it. But the main problem is that these mods are laggy af. My Laptop can barely handle Anbennar without chugging, qnd their playing to add Asia soon...

As it is, I didn't even notice he died for a fat minute. Try playing Esthil into Black Domain. You end up with a lich leader that is at the center of your nation through to the very end.
I installed the game... Didnt know on what to click... Then left... In HoI 3, I just wrote -no neutrality and just started conquering day 1 xD in stellaris there was something to do since the start too although i got bored too.. I think I'd like CK more than EU
