      I prefer the pixel 5 and 5a, the 4a is much more easier to break or damage the screen prying it off compared to the pixel 5 and I feel like the disassembly process is easier on the 5 and 5a compared to the 4a.

    Great video, you seem very knowledgeable. I just broke my 5a screen and have been searching online for help. I've seen a lot of other people on Reddit who have the exact same issue as me. Dropped the phone, bottom right corner was cracked and the whole screen stopped working. Do you know what in the bottom right could be so fatally flawed that so many people have the same issue? • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  Рік тому

      Hi, you can use a hair dryer as well (heat is needed to loosen the adhesive a bit to make it easier to pry the screen off). You can check to see if your screen cable may have gotten loose or you may have a hairline crack in the screen somewhere from a drop that you can't see which is causing the display not to work. I doubt it would be battery related.

      While metal is used in the construction of the 5A, it doesn't form a perimeter around the phone or the screen. My previous phone was a Moto Mx4, and even with a glass back that thing was indestructible because it had metal surrounding the entire phone. On the 5A all you have is a plastic bezel protecting the screen, and apparently that bezel has some weak points.

      @@PBKreviews I has two cracks under the glass. Looks like the OLED cracked but not the glass. It fell from about 2-3ft while in its case. I've dropped my Pixel 3XL many many times while in its case. I've never damaged a phone so easily. As far as the cost is considered, Google wants $229 for the screen and their authorized repair place said it will take a week to get it. I'm not sure what the labor price would be on top of that. I ended up removing the screen and am not waiting for the replacement screen I ordered on eBay for $180. It's slightly cheaper but will be here by tomorrow. Again, this phone seems very delicate when compared to previous pixel phones. Although this is my first experience with an "A" model. Maybe they're not designed to be as robust? Idk. Since I've had the Google G1 in late 2007 this is the first time I've ever cracked a phone display ever!

  • @EricS-uf9mv
    @EricS-uf9mv 2 роки тому +1

    What is your professional opinion about Google claiming the Pixel 5 & 5a screen gap issues having absolutely zero negative impact on the phone's IPX rating? It seems to me the whole point of the water gasket under the screen is to PREVENT WATER from entering the main body from between the screen and the casing right? Otherwise, why is there a water gasket between the screen & the body? Google says having random gaps, of various tolerances, in random locations all around the screen (but w/ some phones having NO gaps) is a intentional design design. They further claim having the water gaskets breached has NO detrimental effect on the phone's water & dust waterproofing. That's obviously bullshit, but I'd like to hear your take. From your teardown, it's obvious the Pixel 5a's internals are not themselves waterproof. Meaning there's no magical waterproof coating layering every single electronic component inside the body of this phone. If there were, then there'd be NO REASON for water gaskets around the screen & USB port, right? So it seems obvious if a gap exists between the screen & the body, a gap big enough to side an index card or credit card thru, then obviously there's plenty of room to allow water & dust/dirt to ingress into the Pixel 5 & Pixel 5a's main body. That'd be "bad" right?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 роки тому +1

      Well they are right and wrong as well. Even though there may be gaps on some units in certain areas between the screen and frame, the adhesive that is all around the screen is thick and stretchy so imagine it like gum, its stuck to the screen and frame but may be stretched in some areas without having any openings. However where I feel this may be an issue over time is that adhesive coming in contact with water and debris over time may render it weaker and not hold as well so then possibly causing it to give way over time. Again I think it should be fine but if you work in an environment where there is a lot of exposure to water and debris, I would probably go with one of their newer phones/designs. For the 5a, I did not notice any gap as well as the many clips all around which securely held the screen down in place on top of the adhesive. It was definitely harder to pry off compared to the 5.

    • @EricS-uf9mv
      @EricS-uf9mv 2 роки тому

      @@PBKreviews Thank you for replying and offering a very thorough answer. Much appreciated! So basically the gaps are a potential point of weakness. How much of a weakness depends on the environment the phone is exposed to, and I imagine the amount/quantity of gummy adhesive coating the area under the gap - and probably the overall size of the gap itself I would think. Seems to me Google's mfgring tolerances aren't very good overall. I'm gonna hold off on both the 5a and the new 6. I'm sure more issues will pop up. Will probably wait one year or so - give Google time to fix their QC. Thx again!

    Hey, can you test two things for me please if possible?
    (1) How much charging time does it take to fully charge?
    (2) what is the touch sampling rate and peak Nits of Brightness of this 60Hz display?
    Thanks a ton! Getting it imported from US and brightness and charging can be a dealbreaker.

      Hi, I don't have the phone with me anymore, I usually go through them fast to move on to the next phones to take apart. Sorry :)

    Wow. Just look at all that wasted space that headphone jack is taking up. What were those uncivilized neanderthals at Google thinking? Absolutely disgusting.

      I guess it depends on who you ask. Some people will only buy a phone with a headphone jack and some never use it.
