Man, you do it with such a ease.... Thanks for the in depth info. Short, to the point, concise.
Some others would produce one hour long teardown. You covered putting it apart and putting it back together in less than 6 minutes. Thanks a lot.
you're welcome 👍
Well, it's easy for those who do it for a living every day and with the magic of video editing. Even pros sometimes make mistakes and nick a cable. After 22 years of fixing phones, sometimes it happens to me too., but that's how you learn.
You are an absolute hero for any phone repair shop. Thank you!
Really good teardown. Short but concise and full of detail. Exactly what you want.
Thanks!
Might be a weird question but can the back glass be removed and made to be transparent? I really love the transparent phones like in Jerry Rig Everything videos!
I tried to remove the glass, it looks like it should be replaceable but the adhesive is really strong so I did not want to risk cracking or breaking it so I left it alone. But even if you clear out the back, on this phone you wont see anything since the glass sits over the aluminum uni body of the phone, there is only a square cut out for the wireless charger but aside from that you would not see into the phone.
gonna have to wait for a dbrand skin unfortunately
@@neolordie wait for Jerryrig
would love to just replace it with some plastic panel... more reliable, thinner and less weight))
@@neolordie skin is released
Hi man, great video. My main mic stopped working - is this replaceable, or i need to go for a full mainboard replacement? The only mic i can find for sale is the upper one (with the flex cable). Thank you!
yes! finally the teardown i needed most.
👍😀
OK Great, thank you but how do you repair/replace ONLY the back part protecting the cameras, please? can you show?
I broke the back glass and the camera protection, unfortunately. Would be great if you could provide also where to find such repart parts on the web.
Then, once all parts are back together, is the phone still waterproof??
Great job on this teardown, thanks for providing!! I am eagerly waiting for a motherboard swap to be released for these devices so we can either prove or debunk the rumor that they are serializing parts to disable functionality..
Thanks! ya if I had another one on hand I would have tested it out but didn't have another one. I'm sure someone will do a video on that maybe ifixit or someone else pretty soon.
Fantastic teardown, vey glad to see how easy it is to replace the screen. Now we just need Google to actually SELL US the screen!
I'm glad they didn't serialize components like Samsung and Apple, they deserve credit on that!
Battery could be a bit easier to replace, and the soldered on charging port really sucks.
Thanks again for these teardowns!
Thank you and You're welcome :)
Nothing in this teardown either confirms or refutes serialization. We simply don't know until someone attempts to swap components from two similar devices.
@@MikeTrieu Not this teardown, his 6 Pro teardown, he did exactly that. Swapped components to test what would work. Only thing serialized is the fingerprint reader, which makes sense. And Google provides you the calibration software to re-calibrate a new fingerprint reader, which is unheard of and a huge step forward for right to repair. ua-cam.com/video/qyEmChOMAN0/v-deo.html We can assume this applies to the regular Pixel as well.
So my glass that covers the camera is broken to where my camera is not usable, is it possible to just heat up that piece of glass and replace it or would it require a full teardown to replace?
Let's say you want to add mmWAV antenna? Is that an option because i really didn't want to get a locked verizon or att model just to get that but would like to add later if possible.
great video. on the board, where can I find the JTAG port? my phone is broken, trying to recover the data.
Every damn time 👍👍👍👍👍
i am waited for this one 🤩🤩🤩
👍😀
Thank you for pointing out the soldered on charging port!
Hope devices will be more modular in the future, once Right To Repair passes...
You're welcome. Yea hopefully :)
Sorry but has nothing to do with right to repair. Watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/Utlh5diSmWU/v-deo.html&ab_channel=LouisRossmann
It is when phone manufacturers use a certain chip that the manufacturers of these chips (eg. TI, Samsung etc) are not allow to sell or like Apple that even genuine Apple parts (e.g. from brand new phones) can't be swapped between the same two devices because they don't have the same serial number.
Soldering a USB C port to the main port is not like that. It worsens the reparability, but it does not make the operation impossible like in the mentioned cases.
@@b0nz1official I know what you are talking about, but in my opinion, easier repairability also counts to R2R.
@@user-bp8yg3ko1r There is an engineering and durability reasoning for such choices. Not everything can be made modular while meeting goals set by the team for longevity.
The same thing goes for those being upset about the how complex these devices are to disassemble. You can only do so much in such a small space.
@@user-bp8yg3ko1r Then watch the video. Louis Rossmann is probably one the most famous proponents of R2R. And he explains in detail why there is a huge difference and he doesn't want to force companies of using parts that are easier to repair because it could slow or hinder progress.
He even explains that he is worried that people don't get the difference and you clearly are a candidate.
I replaced my pixel 6 screen and have no touch function, is there a reset necessary? does this mean I may have damaged something else?
loved it! Wish they used split battery tech for a faster charging solution :(
Thanks! and yup would have been good if they did.
@@PBKreviews I came back here to know more about the device. I am now a proud owner of Pixel 6. ^_^
@@prakharagnihotri5579 I'm here for the exact same reason. Would you recommend this device for long term use?
@@jvbenjamin Yes I would. 100% but i have a feeling that Pixel 7 will have all those tiny issues (that 6 has) solved and improved on. So if you are not on a budget constraint and can wait 5 months, Pixel 7 would be a better buy. 6a looks beautiful with that handy form factor but pixel 6 will still be a better overall device when comparing the two. So if you want one NOW close your eyes and get the Pixel 6. See if you can get a carrier sale price of $549 that would be sweet. Only get the 6a if you are tight on budget or want a small handy phone And pixel 7 if you can wait a bit.
I have a feeling that the Pixel 7 will be $100 more than 6 (ie; 700 dollars) so you have enough time to save up.
Another first from PBK reviews
This is great editing
Thanks
Thank you.
Thanks for the video
You're welcome
You make it seem so easy.
👍
That main camera is enormous for a phone. I'm looking forward to seeing what Google is able to do in the coming months as they tune their image processing for the larger sensor. Right now they're still using basically the same image processing that they've used for several years with a much smaller sensor, so quality is only going to improve with time.
Phone cameras are becoming an overkill. IMO For the average person even a 3-4 year old phone takes perfectly fine pictures. Pros are better off with high quality digital cameras with replaceable macro and tele-photo lenses.
@@BillAntit's more for video everyone wants a 5k recorder in their pocket so companies are racing to make that happen.
@@cavc1979- Most people can't tell the difference between 1080p and 4k especially on a relatively small phone screen, it's a waste of storage.
Great video sir!! Sir I replace my screen and now the phone will not recognize the Sim card would you or anyone else have any recommendations? Thank you
good job man.
Thanks!
Would you say the battery is easy to replace?
Thanks for the info. I was able to successfully repair my stuck lock button :D (just needed to shoot some isopropyl alcohol and air into the gap behind the button). If I want to re-glue the screen down (for water & dust resistance) what sort of adhesive should I use?
You're welcome. This is the first teardown I ever watched. Good Job right there. I got a pixel 6, overall I I loved the phone. I have one problem tho, the fingerprint scanner. It's even slower than the Samsung I used for years. I saw its sth, attached to the screen. Is it a new tech? Google said they wanted it to be more secure and it's a new technology. What do you think? Thanks
Thanks. Yes its attached to the display and a lot of newer high end devices have the in display finger print readers. I personally don't love them since they are not as fast as the physical ones in my opinion.
If the volume buttons are not clicky, might need to disassemble the whole phone?
Damn, it worked. Here's a coment for your algorythm! Thanks!
Thanks :)
Where is the USB Type C controller chip? What is it, and who makes it?
Amazing
👍
why does the inside of my phone look different from yours? is yours stock?
Of all the people I've seen try the battery on this thing, I've never seen them try to use that "pull tab" to try to slice the adhesive which I'd bet that's what it's intended for.
lol :)
Where is the other microphone, the one at the bottom of the phone, not the top one that you showed
I don't know if this has happened before, but here it goes.
My Pixel 6 suffered from a swollen battery and it pushed the screen away from the frame. I went to a Google authorised service center to get the battery replaced. A day later they said that they could not remove it. The reason being that they were unable to remove the screws. They even asked me if I had gotten it checked somewhere else. Of course I hadn't. They suggested that the screws seemed to be worn and gotten stuck. Im not sure if this was a manufacturing defect, but this spelled the end of my P6 journey. The screen now hangs by the flexible connector. Pity that the phone had been dropped just once and was in perfect shape with no cracks or dents. And barely 1.5 years old.
You can always use a power drill with a drill bit small enough to fit inside the screw head, and drill slightly into the screws to break off the heads. Then you can use a clamp or something similar to grab and twist the broken screws out and replace them with new screws.
In bright sunlight on white background I can see the shape of the proximity sensor through the screen. Thought I had some burn in but now I understood.
So only one speaker at 3:27 the bottom. Thank God I almost think that my phone got a faulty speaker as only one side produces sound.
Does Pixel 6 has sound dampening foam in loudspeaker same as other flagships have?
Yes it has it on the top speaker but not the bottom. The pixel 6 pro had it on both top and bottom speakers.
Is this the only youtube channel, where latest phone gets teared down first
excellent video! I have the pixel 6 but when I open tik tok or some video chat app with several people (only audio) the phone heats up a few minutes after opening the applications and if it heats up something strong, but the heating only occurs on the left side device (side, front and rear frame). This does not happen with other apps, and with games I have not tried it but I suppose it is the same. do you think it happens due to a software or optimization problem? the truth worries me: /
It's normal for it to heat up due to the fact the point of the heat transfer materials on the inside are to exchange heat from the components out to the outside of the phone. Also the main board is located on that side you are feeling heat, so again should be normal. But if it is extremely hot that you cant hold the phone then might be an issue with the phone or software/app you are running.
They had a mmWave antenna *placeholder* ?! Does that mean there are some variants of the Pixel 6 that do have that antenna installed? Does the mainboard even have that antenna connector?
Yes, the Verizon version will have the mmWave antenna. You can see the solder points on the board next to the battery connector where the mmWave antenna connector would be.
u r fast man...❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks 😀👍
@@PBKreviews speechless 🤣
my lower speaker broke , when can i get one?
Great video as always. Is the pixel 6 and 6 Pro manufactured by Foxconn like previous generation Pixel devices or another manufacturer and if so in China or Vietnam. Also will you be doing a teardown of the 6 Pro. Thanks
Thanks! I believe they moved it back to china for the 6 and 6 pro because of covid regulations but not sure which manufacturer. I will probably be doing the 6 pro as well, but I don't have it on hand yet. Will see.
@@PBKreviews Thanks for the update 👍🏽
You're welcome :)
They nailed it with the 6 Pro.
👍
Hey, i got a question, basically my Google pixel gets hot as some games, and the heat appears to be pretty much where the screen connector is, does it mean that the connector is defective? Or might something else cause it? Because sometimes it can get hot as a pan.
same as mine. but i noticed that it only heats up on the aluminum frame and the heat is not dissipating that much to the screen or the back. seems like the passive cooling graphene size used here is pretty small plus the poor thermal of the tensor itself due to samsung's less efficient fabrication
@@jpara_dise that might be it, but it's so long ago that now I'm having the new Pixel 8 Pro, the heat problems are completely gone, only if some weird programmed apps are running it might get hot, but not at any normal games, so basically Google learned from previous problems.
@@Bl0wUMind good for you. Seems like tensor g3 is a true upgrade from the tensor g1 chip
So to replace the charging port I have to take out all the pieces of the phone? :(
I got water into my microphone by mistake. It's pixel. How to fix it, none of my videos are recording sound properly
Wow great job PBK. I am so suprise about top speaker size. So big, and bigger than top speaker any smartphone with dual speaker and it's about same size as bottom one. Maybe has small foam ball inside. Thats company also think to make great audio and not only performance new Tensor chip and great software from this Google company. And how about version 6 pro.
Thanks! Yea the top speaker was surprisingly large and also has the white foam balls but the bottom didn't seem to have the foam balls. I will try to do the 6 pro as soon as I am able to get one in.
Oh I see. Thank you PBK. Thanks for your full explain. Great teardown video.👍👍👍
@@zuhayrzainuddin1150 you're welcome and thank you!
So theoretically I just need to remove the display and have instead access to the battery after removing a few screws and the display swap seems easy af as well? That's great, means that in case of the 5 years of updates I have to swap it it's pretty easy to do.
On the other hand: if the USB-C port dies there's the whole PBC to replace...
Yup. The charger port will require someone with soldering knowledge to be able to de solder it and solder a new one on. Some repair shops do it.
@@PBKreviews honestly I managed to screw up my display only once and the only thing I had to do was a battery swap on a OnePlus 6 + the USB-C ports are dust eaters, so cleaning that one with some Tweezers. The phone I screwed up the Display was a sony Ericsson. Fun story tho: had a empty glass on my table with a spoon in it and knocked it off the table while my phone was laying on my PC. Catched the glass, but well... Display got spooned, lol :D
Managed to modify a Dell Streak 5 to give it more internal storage, was fun. One of the first Android devices back then and the only thing you had to do was swapping an SD-Card on the PBC. Repair wise I really loved that one back than
@@L1ghtbirdy yep some things were a bit more simpler back in the day.
Would a 3rd party repair shop replace the graphite heat transfer film if they replaced your battery?
If they have the part I would assume so but most likely only authorized service centers like ubreakifix which get parts directly from the manufacture would have the graphene heat transfer film to replace. However, if they carefully peel off the film and not damage it, it can be reused.
It's nice that the video is short, but I feel like too many important things were cut off. For example, the double-suction-cup tool looked cool; but was very upset its use wasn't demonstrated!
Yeah, I don't go too into detail on those things because I feel if someone doesn't have any experience at all and doesn't know how to use any of those tools, it wouldn't be a good idea for them to do it in the first place because so many people end up damaging other parts along the way trying to fix one thing. So I just try to show the stuff people want to see like internal build, cooling and basics on internal part removal vs how to use a suction cup tool. Entertainment wise yeah its a good idea, but educational wise not so much I feel. For example, I've had people who don't even know which button is the power button on the phone try to take their phone apart and damage it when they shouldn't have been attempting it in the first place :)
so to change the battery you have to pull the screen out? :(
Yup unfortunately

Would of liked to see you take the graphene tape off of the back of the phone, also remove the buttons like you said.

Yup lol
Did you switch components from another pixel 6 device to check if it is blocked like seen from Apple?
Hi, no I didn't have another one on hand to test that out.
@@PBKreviews If you could do that, it'll be super appreciated. Please let Louis Rossman know of the result, because according to a repair manual that was leaked, the camera(s) is software locked to the mainboard, making the phone less repairable for no good reason.
If you let Louis Rossman know with evidence, then we can either name and shame them or clear their name, depending on the outcome.
Perhaps this could be a part of your Pixel 6 Pro teardown review? If you do and Louis Rossman mentions you, it'll attract many more viewers too!

what model is the display? display code?

(Google Translate) Hello, may I reprint some of your videos of dismantling the phone to the Chinese Bilibili video website? I will try my best to translate the video into Chinese and add notes, thank you!
Hi. As long as you dont remove the logo on the video, it should be ok. 😀
The display sounds very "hollow" when tapped, you don't get this with a Samsung for eg. It's feels "cheap". I guess this is because it sits over the battery?
It's possible its due to the fact the screen doesn't have a metal back plate or any backing and the plastic boarder of it has it siting slightly above internal components so nothing actually touching it directly so might be giving it that hollow sound when tapped.
@@PBKreviews Thanks. Would this make it less strong or more likely to break in a drop?
@@BatfinksWings shouldn't affect it plus it has gorilla glass victus so should be strong.
My charging port got bit of moisture and now only slow charging works but even that only with Type A ->Type C charger cable. Type C -> Type C charging cable doesn't let any voltage to phone.
So I'm saying biggest problem with pixel 6 build is that charging port module is not replaceable. Noticed same thing continues with pixel 7.
Yep, soldered charging ports on main boards suck. You can try to use a toothbrush to brush out any corrosion inside the charger port itself to see if it will help.

Why does it look like there are so many empty spaces vs the iPhone for example?

@@PBKreviews so I'm paying for empty spaces ;_; guess it explains why theyre able to make this cheaper vs other flagships
Much better than Samsung, toik a few tips from apple
where is the best place to buy screen as quickly as possible
You can get it from here, they are reliable and from the looks of it cheaper than the ones on ebay. www.mobiledefenders.com/oled-display-assembly-for-google-pixel-6-black.html
It only has one speaker on the bottom?
That's what am asking
seems like so much empty space inside. They could definitely pack it all denser, and make the form factor smaller. (except the thickness of the camera bump)
In some ways yea but also the more compact and closer everything is, the more heat is boggled up and also makes for repair jobs even more difficult. Also the battery needs some room to expand during charging and so forth. I'm not an expert in electrical engineering or how they engineer the boards, so I can't speak on the behalf of how they arrange the layout and why they couldn't make the board smaller by arranging the components and chips closer to each other. :)
Your very first.

@@PBKreviews thanks!
I wish you would have taken two identical phones and tried exchanging the parts to see what Google disables. I saw the leaked document indicating some parts are serialized in the firmware on the main board to prevent people from repairing their own phone, similar to what Apple has done on the 13. Only Google or an ASP will have access to software to restore functionality. Obviously, if Google is doing that, there is no possible end-user repair without losing functionality. Score should be zero.
I did do that on the pixel 6 pro disassembly video, you can check it out on my channel :)

Where is the storage?
its soldered onto the motherboard under one of the shields.
I have heard some folks say that the pixel screen feels hollow when you interact with it. I have not touched a pixel 6 yet, but can someone confirm or debunk this?
It's probably because of the fact the screen sits on top of a plastic frame that borders the sides of the screen and the center is somewhat hollow but very slightly. However the glass is gorilla glass victus and is strong so there are no worries of it breaking. Also most other phones have a metal plate or backing where the back of the screen is adhered to that plate so this one doesn't do that which is another reason you may hear that hollowness when tapped on etc.

Kind of confused why we couldn't just repost the original teardown video that Google took down prior to the October announcement instead.

It's normal, its the OIS (optical image stabilization) for the camera.
Pixel phones look so dated with that silly wide bezel over the cameras on the back. But hey, there's a sucka born every day. lol
lol
Bro where is the cpu??
It's a System On a Chip. The entire board is apart of the CPU.
My screen is now broken lol
oh lol sucks. On these, it isn't as easy to damage the screen taking them apart as most other phones, but yeah the risk is always there with phones where you have to remove the screen first.
Why tf doesn't this channel have an iphone teardown?
the iphone is too many parts that need to remove. he is maybe not too experienced to disassemble iphones.
update : the iphone is expensive
I have a few, but the main reason is that a lot of people are able to get the iPhones early or right before release and they upload teardown videos on them quick so there tend to be numerous teardown videos on them and isn't worth me spending the thousands of dollars on them when I won't get many views on the videos to recoup the costs etc. Hope this explains it. But when I am able to get my hands on one early, I will definitely do a video on it. :)

Almost every new phone is harder to repair, the fingerprint scanner is a complication when It comes to screen replacement, also the charging port soldered to the motherboard will be hard to repair. I hate those phones which are hard to repair.
yep, I have a feeling that the screen replacements will probably come with the fingerprint sensor pre attached.
According to your opinion, what is the overall quality of this phone? How many points you will give to this one out of 10?
Repairability I gave a 6/10, quality of the phone is good and is an aluminum uni body so that's a plus as well.
Sanu labda nahi te Tera khana kharab ho saleya har phone nu khol deta h
Not sure what you are saying
6/10 seems kinda high tbh, this looks quite difficult and not repair friendly at all
Most people break the screen and screen replacements on this would be pretty simple since it opens screen side first. The rest isnt too difficult but just time consuming. But ya the charger port isnt easily replaceable.
