they would move around a bit inside without being adhered down someway, but other companies like xiaomi have much better design as far as the battery adhesives. They are like pouches that can be reused and is much easier to pull out the batteries.
"seven T4 screws" i heard that "74 screws" since i'm a repair technician myself i almost had a heart attack thimking i have to unscrew 74 screws in a single phone, my dude you almost killed me lmao.
Thank you for the teardown. From a security point of view does the locked fingerprint scanner mean that if the phone is locked one can't simply swap screens to gain access?
You're welcome. Correct, but the finger print reader itself is not what stores the finger print. It's stored on the device itself. The fingerprint reader is just a reader so if it goes bad, or you break your screen, it's going to be a pain to replace etc. However I do understand the security point of few if people are able to make 3rd party readers for the phones which don't meet the standards of google or the manufacturer and thus can be more easily fooled to reading fingerprints close to but not exactly a real finger. Has its pro's and cons but at least from what was leaked before (that the cameras might not be user replaceable), the cameras are replaceable and not locked down so that's a good thing.
I can't believe he gives the pixel 6 & 6pro scores of 6 & 5.5/10 respectively. All because the adhesive was "too strong". All the screws are the same and the whole thing comes apart easier than almost any other phone. I wonder if he's ever tried taking apart an iPhone? With his scoring skewered so much, it'll be negative numbers.
Do they give you a schematic? Is the charge port soldered on or on a flex cable? Do you have to remove the screen, the most expensive part of the device, to get access to everything else or not? It's fair everything considered.
@@rossmanngroup I've seen a lot of your videos so I know where you're coming from. So, with all due respect: 1. The schematics in your possession, are they easily obtained? (& at what $) 2. The skills and knowledge to understand them and all the equipment needed to diagnose and conduct repairs, how many consumers possess all that? 3. I've been charging between 2 & 5 usb-c devices daily since 2017, not one has failed yet. (3 failed micro-usb's meanwhile) 4. As for the screens, yes indeed, some require more heat and caution to remove. However I'll happily take a job replacing both sides of a non-Apple phone, over just the back glass of an iPhone. ✌
I rate it based off both replaceable parts and ease of the disassembly. If the disassembly was from the back vs the front where the screen is (since most people can easily damage a working display trying to replace an internal component or part) then I am sure I would give it a higher score. Also the fact the charging port is soldered onto the board makes it much more difficult for most people to replace vs a charger port that would be on a flex cable that is user replaceable without having the know how of soldering. I have taken apart hundreds of iPhone in my day and always prefer to work on androids personally. I wouldn't rate an iPhone in negative digits, but most probably in the 3-4 range due to the amount of different sized and type screws and time it takes to take the entire thing apart.
Yes it's optical, it looks really flat but from side you can see it has some thickness to it. When I left the screen off from frame if you stop the video when the screen is on its side you can somewhat see it.
That is ridiculous. Information isn't even stored on the fingerprint scanner. Previous models of pixel could have the fingerprint scanner replaced with no issue. Looks like Google is trying to pull an Apple on us. And, soldering one of the most used parts (Type C port) is just stupid.
Hi, after further testing, once the fingerprint calibration software from googles website is installed, and then the phone is factory reset after, the new fingerprint reader works. Also ya sucks the charger port is soldered onto the board.
You would need to install new original pre cut adhesive that is made for the phone. Usually they become available with replacement parts on the market.
OK Great, thank you but how do you repair/replace ONLY the back part protecting the cameras, please? can you show? I broke the back glass and the camera protection, unfortunately. Would be great if you could provide also where to find such repart parts on the web. Or maybe you could repair it for me if I send it? Then, once all parts are back together, is the phone still waterproof??
There aren't any original replacement parts for it that I was able to find, but there is this one which I will link in this comment. But it doesn't look to come with the replacement adhesive strip. You would need to heat up your original glass cover with a hair dryer and pry it off, apply new adhesive strip (if there isn't one included with it you can buy adhesive to cut down and use) and re apply the replacement. so there were reports at one time the 6 pro would have stainless frame and the the cheaper pixel 6 would be aluminum, so is the the main frame of the 6 pro stainless?
Hi. I didn't really look into that. But when looking at the video and from what I remember when I had them open, from the most part they looked to be the same but there was a subtle difference in the color on the inside of the frame. It can be possible that one is stainless. The pixel 6 looked darker compared to the pro if you compare both videos.
hi when im on the phone other people can hear me clear but i cannot hear them and my speaker phone is not working either so should i replace both ear speaker and bottom main speaker ?
How about a camera replacement update? I just replaced mine and all I get is an error message. It will not work at all. Black screen and it force closes. Putting the old camera back with a cracked lens works fine.
Sometimes you need to do a software update on the phone and if it doesn't help, factory reset on the phone so it programs the cameras and syncs with the main board. But make sure you backup your data.
You just need to follow the steps on the website (pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/) If it fails, and you have replaced your fingerprint reader, it might be due to a none original scanner or defective reader etc.
@@PBKreviews I used a cheap data cable. This was a customers phone. I went to the website but the software said it failed but it didn't say what failed. I did went to the site and put it into fastboot mode. I'll see what I'm doing wrong. *sigh*
@@jasongreen809 It could be the cable or the drivers on your computer as well. When you run the software, does it detect the phone? if it does then the drivers are not the problem and might be the cable.
It detects the phone. But it says failed and nothing else. I told the customer to backup the phone in case of a factory reset and bring your original cable.
All things considered, the fingerprint scanner should be married to the board for security purposes. I know if my phone was stolen I wouldn't want someone with the knowledge of swapping a screen to be able to access my information by doing a simple screen swap even though one could log in to their google account and lock the phone, not everyone knows how. Considering everything else can be replaced from the looks of it it's a good thing.
After further testing, once the fingerprint calibration software from googles website is installed, and then the phone is factory reset after, the new fingerprint reader works.
Kindly thanks for your nice video! As I also saw your Pixel 6 teardown video, it has different location of haptic vibrator and it seems better in 6 pro (as I heard from some reviewers), is it correct? Secondly, the charging port of 6 pro can be released from motherboard and easy to change, and it's not changeable on pixel 6, right?
You're welcome. Both 6 and 6 pro charger ports are soldered onto the board. The haptic feedback motor location isn't going to really affect anything much. Since when people play games or run other apps when the phone is horizontal, it doesn't make a difference if its on the top or bottom. But I guess in vertical when you might be texting or other such actions, it might be better to have it on the bottom but again I think the feel from the haptic feedback should be felt pretty evenly throughout the phone.
@@PBKreviews Kindly thanks for your reply! So, it will be hard to fix/change the charger port if it has some problem? Luckily that we still have wireless charging))

What is the clear notch at the bottom on the Pixel 6 Pro, between the charger and the speaker port. I saw that it connects inside to something. Is it a light sensor or LED?
I know this probably sounds crazy, but do you think it would be possible for the Pixel 3XL's autofocus front-facing camera to be swapped in place of the 6 Pro's front camera if I tried? I watched your videos on both and the components seem to be a similar size but the flex cable sizes are quite different and not sure if they use the same connectors at all. What kind of finger print reader is it? Optical ones use a camera and throw light onto the fingerprint to read it and ultrasonic readers don't need light to read them. The pixels don't have a camera reader but throw light onto the finger anyway. Can anyone enlighten me?
Yeah that's what I suspected because of using light. But that sensor they are using is as thin as a sticker, much thinner than a camera sensor normally is. I've not seen one like that before.
I believe its optical, also it's not as thin as it looks, it is thin yes but not as thin as a sticker. If you watch @1:10 in the video (when the screen is on its side before I disconnect the cable from the board), you can see it from the side and see somewhat the thickness of it.
well if you think about it the finger print reader should not be swappable bc someone could swap it with their fingerprint reader and get the phone to open. It's really a very respectable security feature to make sure no one can get in to that phone who does not own it.
You can't just swap it with your own fingerprint reader, the phone still has security features in place which reads and verifies the installed fingerprint reader to be the same make from google etc. Also I am sure the fact that its required that the calibration software as well as a factory reset is required after installing the new reader, ensures that any "hacked" or altered fingerprint reader/software would be wipped/cleaned before that fingerprint is operational.
@@PBKreviews ok i see it now, google was making it to be an astonishing work of silicone that i was expecting some shiny piece of metal, thanks for pointing that out for me.
The side buttons on my Pixel 6 are a bit wobbly, they have a bit of play. I don't know if it's normal and repairable. It's not noticeable when using a case though.
I think its normal, the ones on these pixel 6 pro are somewhat the same. Not really wobbly but not completely affixed either. They need some range of movement so they don't grind or get stuck easily.
After further testing, once the fingerprint calibration software from googles website is installed, and then the phone is factory reset after, the new fingerprint reader works.
It's not as easy as said n done. Since liquid metal is highly conductive, you cant just apply it as is. If it spills on or around the chips, it will definitely short the phone. Would require a closed compartment so the liquid metal doesn't spill out, so its not like thermal paste that you can just apply on top of the processor and not worry about it liquefying and spilling from the sides.

@@TiggerLyOne I knew the security chip part, but just worried that replacing the sensor may setup for some exploit. Probably just silly thinking though
Why are batteries glued in when they are in tight location with no ability to move around anyway?
So they don't jiggle.
@@justinsielicki I would think they wouldn't jiggle even without the glue
they would move around a bit inside without being adhered down someway, but other companies like xiaomi have much better design as far as the battery adhesives. They are like pouches that can be reused and is much easier to pull out the batteries.
@@PBKreviews Yeah adhesive is crazy.

where can i buy the screen?
"seven T4 screws" i heard that "74 screws" since i'm a repair technician myself i almost had a heart attack thimking i have to unscrew 74 screws in a single phone, my dude you almost killed me lmao.
haha
anywhere I can buy a motherboard replacemement for it?
Amazing
Thank you!
@@PBKreviews Do you know if it will would if used with a digitizer?
@@big_boy_chris not sure what you mean

would need to be one that is compatible with in display fingerprint sensors. Or else it would have issues reading fingerprints.
oh thank you for explaining that I will do exactly as instructed 😳
You're welcome :)
So, with all due respect:
1. The schematics in your possession, are they easily obtained? (& at what $)
2. The skills and knowledge to understand them and all the equipment needed to diagnose and conduct repairs, how many consumers possess all that?
3. I've been charging between 2 & 5 usb-c devices daily since 2017, not one has failed yet. (3 failed micro-usb's meanwhile)
Eh, the logic board position is not on the top like most android do ??
no its an L design
No cooling pipe?
Nope

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's not an optical fingerprint sensor, is it?
Yes it's optical, it looks really flat but from side you can see it has some thickness to it. When I left the screen off from frame if you stop the video when the screen is on its side you can somewhat see it.
@@PBKreviews Hmmm, always thought it needed to be some sort of macro camera 🤦🏻♂️

How would one keep the water resistance after opening the phone?
you have special machines for that
You would need to install new original pre cut adhesive that is made for the phone. Usually they become available with replacement parts on the market.
@@PBKreviews you also need to apply the correct pressure for the correct time in the correct locations after the original adhesive is placed.
Here is a link for the adhesive installation which may help understand how its done and the link to the part. You're welcome. I don't know exactly which antenna is related to it to be able to tell.
so there were reports at one time the 6 pro would have stainless frame and the the cheaper pixel 6 would be aluminum, so is the the main frame of the 6 pro stainless?
@@PBKreviews sometimes, as in you know this works??
Yes!
What do I need to check, the fingerprint calibration failed and I was in Factbook mode

@@tientomsk yes correct, you would need to find a repair location that can do soldering to replace it.
@@PBKreviews Hi, I just received my Pixel 6 yesterday and I realised that the screen color is a little bit yellow tint in comparison with other phones, like my old LG G8. Is your same yellow tint?
What is the clear notch at the bottom on the Pixel 6 Pro, between the charger and the speaker port. I saw that it connects inside to something. Is it a light sensor or LED?
Not sure exactly what you are referring to. If you can circle it on a screenshot and upload it online to show me, that would help.
Just really miss the autofocus from the 3XL's FFC as the 6 Pro uses a fixed focus lens instead. was wondering how feasible you think that kind of Frankenstein swap would be. And thanks for the great video as always! 😁
Hi, Thanks! If the connectors are the same and flex cable length and location etc, it might be possible but there may also be software issues where the phone might not read it properly. Wouldn't know for sure till you tried. :)
Thats a really nice video. I was suprised that you can change the camera system. Because I read somewhere that the camera is calibrated to the logic board/ mainboard. But maybe that leak from the repair gudie was wrong?

What kind of finger print reader is it? Optical ones use a camera and throw light onto the fingerprint to read it and ultrasonic readers don't need light to read them. The pixels don't have a camera reader but throw light onto the finger anyway. Can anyone enlighten me?
I believe its optical
Yeah that's what I suspected because of using light. But that sensor they are using is as thin as a sticker, much thinner than a camera sensor normally is. I've not seen one like that before.
I believe its optical, also it's not as thin as it looks, it is thin yes but not as thin as a sticker. If you watch @1:10 in the video (when the screen is on its side before I disconnect the cable from the board), you can see it from the side and see somewhat the thickness of it.
Everyone skips over the WiFi and BLE antennas in all these videos. At least this one shows the backside of the motherboard for more than .1 second.
Bohot badiya
Thanks! :)
well if you think about it the finger print reader should not be swappable bc someone could swap it with their fingerprint reader and get the phone to open.
Why does yours have a white pin stripe on the back glass?

The side buttons on my Pixel 6 are a bit wobbly, they have a bit of play. I don't know if it's normal and repairable. It's not noticeable when using a case though.
I think its normal, the ones on these pixel 6 pro are somewhat the same. Not really wobbly but not completely affixed either. They need some range of movement so they don't grind or get stuck easily.
I have a tiny bit on my power button. P6 pro. I didn't notice any but thought I'd try after reading this. So not sure how much that qualifies as.

use thermal paste liquid metal in the phone
It's not as easy as said n done. Since liquid metal is highly conductive, you cant just apply it as is. If it spills on or around the chips, it will definitely short the phone. Would require a closed compartment so the liquid metal doesn't spill out, so its not like thermal paste that you can just apply on top of the processor and not worry about it liquefying and spilling from the sides.
