Awesome Chuck. I am so glad you went in depth on the trackball setup as well as the RGB add on. I am a bit lost as I only see one area on the whole board that's labeled GND. I already bought the Ultimate I/O from Andy.😀
Are you talking about the USB card that's optional with the trackball, or plugging it directly into the Ultimate I/O ? Email me at mavericksarcade @ gmail :-)
@@MavericksArcade I am referring to the optional RGB add on card, more specifically, the add on that lights the trackball. There is two connections. The first goes into the Ultimarc I/O which makes sense, but the other single prong connector that plugs into the card has to be plugged into a ground pin. I only see one ground pin labeled GRD on the Ultimarc card. Apologies for asking such a simple question, but the last single pinned connector has my progress halted.
Great video Chuck! Only part I'm still missing (as is every U-trak trackball video) is how to properly setup the onboard mouse buttons R/L from the USB dongle. It was the main motivator to go with this unit for me (USB & buttons) but finding a tutorial on how to setup the wires/buttons is like searching for the holy grail. Any help you can offer??
The Trackball is not being recognized when I try to set the Track X/Y Analog bind in MAME. I've changed multimouse, trackball_device, and mouse_device in the INI file like yours, but still no luck. The trackball is however functioning as a mouse pointer in Windows and even in the MAME Tab screen, just not when I try to set Track X/Y Analog. Using IPAC2, MAME UI 64. Any help is appreciated.
Interesting, are you using the trackball with it's own USB connector or using the iPAC board to control it? Shoot me an email at mavericksarcade@gmail.com to keep the convo going, discussions on these comments become easy to lose :-)
Great video. Your vids made me pic up the ultimate io and the ultimate buttons. Wanted to ask, how to get the mouse buttons with the I pac ultimate io? Thanks in advance
you would configure that in the WinIPac application and save to the controller. You could also do this as a ALT control, so for example, if holding start or coin insert, then another key to make it be a mouse button, that way you wouldn't need a dedicated button for it.
Chuck...you mention the trackball bezel and the different size hole saws required. Is there an advantage of using or not using the bezel? Love your vids man...very informative and helpful!!!
It depends on where you'd like to increase it. Within Windows you could change this through the normal settings like you would change a mouse sensitivty. Through Mame, there's sensitive settings that are separate.
@@MavericksArcade I see, so i would definitely need to purchase the ipac board to run the rgb led? I thought i could plug the rgb board into one of the 5 volt connectors on a led usb encoder. I have a 4 player panel all hooked up to a pi 4 using led usb encoders that are powering led buttons and wanted to add this trackball. However I dont understand where the ipac board would connect to since the encoders are connected supplying power etc.
Hi! Thank's for your priceless video demo! There are many kind of BALL for the Trackball... ( FireBall, Pearl, CueBall and Blue Translucent... ) Wich one you are using is this demonstration? Thank's!
Did you end up removing the trackball before painting and placing the graphics and if not, was it difficult to cover before painting? Thanks for the video.
Yes, I basically just temporarily lined everything up at first to make sure it would fit. Then everything was removed during the painting process. Check out my building my cabinet video for the painting. Again, be aware, I suck at building and I suck at painting. I'm considering rebuilding the cabinet at some point, or maybe I'll leave it, just because it's mine and I made it :-) Haven't decided yet, but here's the building video :-) ua-cam.com/video/gJxQX04iSvw/v-deo.html
Thanks for the great video. I have an I-PAC 2 and as far I understand it has the connections for the trackball. Do you know if it is connected to the I-PAC2 will work like a regular mouse in windows OS? Would the USB controller make it work as a mouse?
question !!! when you select the usb option , does it mean you dont need to plug in a board ( ipac or whatever ??) or it is just plug and play in a usb port ??
Correct, the USB option allows the device to plug straight into a USB. You would only need to plug into a separate iPAC or Ultimate board to control the LED if you decide to go that route :-)
I believe it will because it should just be detected as a generic mouse type device. I haven't personally tested it, but I've heard other people have been able to do it without problems. :-/
Hey Chuck. Thanks for your vids! Very informative. Had two questions I thought you may be able to answer. I'm planning a Raspberry Pi3 build, and was considering both the Ultimarc U-Trak & the Spin-track. RPi's OS is Emulation Station which uses Retroarch, if I understand correctly. The Rpi has 4 USB ports, I'll use for Ipac4, keyboard, Utrak, Spintrak. You think this will work theoretically? Or will the devices confuse one for another or reassign IDs.
They should work, but I've also seen people use USB hubs on the Pi3's to add more ports. I believe they should all work because they do not need drivers to function. I'm just not sure about LED possibilities - I've not tested using a Pi3 yet.
Hey thanks for reply. As far as the LEDs I was going to buy the Pearl Translucent and I only care to have it light up blue. Couldn't I just take the blue wire and ground wire and tie them into an12V power supply?
Thanks your videos have saved me days of hair pulling lol. If your looking for ideas for videos then may i suggest setting up Retroarch emulator with the I-Pac
I'm actually looking to do that and also Hyperspin just so I can understand some of the issues my other subscribers are mentioning - Also RocketLauncher
How deep is the drill going to mount those first pieces in the wood? I make cabinets out of clear acrylic (and prefer to use 6mm) but i think id have to step up to much thicker for this trackball. thanks
OMG, those cabinets must look amazing, please email me some pics and your contact info, that'd be an awesome interview in the future :-) Anything less than a half inch and they'll poke through, perhaps, double stack the portion surrounding the trackball for extra depth, that or you could just make a small cavity on the top side of the acrylic and a spacer under the acrylic... that way, the ball would be flush and not pop out the top too far, and it wouldn't get ugly looking :-)
Dear Sir, I watched your video on track ball installation with the U-HID Nano. I have a precise scanning device that we use for the propeller industry. I have the USB U-HID NANO with cable and want to wire it to a push button switch. This is used to switch the scanner to on off scan mode. Currently we use a right click mouse to do this but it is very awkward. If I can mount a small push button switch on the scan arm it will make the process much faster and ergonomically better. Can you help me with this install? Regards, Gary
You'd be better off reaching out to Andy from Ultimarc to confirm how to do this. I will be doing something similiar soon because I need similiar functionality for a photo booth that I'm making so my customers can press the button to take the photos. When you get the answer, please pass it along to me via my email. :-)
Thank you for the video! could you please confirm the name of the USB you're connecting the U-Trak to? is it "U-HID Nano PCB with USB cable"? Thank you.
Since you are using the USB Interface are you using it for the left/right mouse buttons? if so does this mean you need to connect two extra buttons for the left/right option?
I have friends that have setup left and right mouse buttons on the console. My arcade uses a wireless keyboard with built in touchpad so when I need mouse functionality I use that instead. But, if you want to use your trackball like a mouse you could setup mouse buttons
Maverick's Arcade my utrak with mouse buttons used to work but have now stopped working. Only the trackball works to move the cursor. Left and right mouse buttons do not do anything. Im restored my computer and installed windows 7 and then did all the updates and that is when I noticed that the mouse buttons for the trackball do not work anymore. I have the ultimarc USB trackball controller with my raspberry pi hooked up, do you have a video on how to get it to operate on games like centipede, etc? I looked through your videos, I can't seem to find it.
I'm not sure about how it would function on the Raspberry Pi, I honestly have not tried that yet at all. I know with MAME I would simply go to the section where I setup the controllers, click the command, then roll the mouse to capture the direction, but I'm honestly not sure. The bezel will help dust/dirt and other junk for getting in there. Granted, it will still collect dust, but less dust from being brushed horizontally.
Chuck, great video, Is there any way to increase the sensitivity of the trackball?
It depends on where you'd like to increase it. Within Windows you could change this through the normal settings like you would change a mouse sensitivty. Through Mame, there's sensitive settings that are separate.
Yes you could hard power the blue channel only and that would work. Personally I have the ball light the original game color whenever possible
Hi, yhe LED connection. Would i be connecting that to one of my usb LED encoders to power it up? Thanks!
Yes, on mine, the trackball is plugged in using USB for the inputs, but the LEDs go into my iPAC controller :-)

My pleasure!
Does it matter the position it faces? I have limited space and have to make it crooked in position to miss my joystick!
There is an up arrow on the device that points to the correct orientation. Because this emulates a mouse, there is definitely an up/down direction.
Could this be used with a 60 in 1 jamma board?
I'm not 100% sure. I use the USB connector for mine so it's 100% independent. I would check with Andy at Ultimarc to be sure :-)
Is this translucent or the white trackball ?
You can get either. Mine is translucent so the RGB lights through it nicely.
