Those rotary joysticks are extremely difficult to find today. I have been looking (without success) for a rotary joystick for MONTHS. I have no idea why they're not being made anymore but you sure are lucky to have them my friend. Thanks for the video and for sharing your knowledge with us.

check out Ultimarc - they sell a kit which will convert a couple of the sticks the sell into a 12 point rotary stick

Those SNK rotary sticks are so cool :) I think I'm going to have to built a dozen arcade cabinets for each of the different control types and monitor orientations. I want a vertical cabinet, horizontal fighter, 360 optical wheel cabinet, 270 pot based racing wheel.. etc. lol Otherwise, I'll end up building a HUGE, MAME cabinet with an ugly Franken-panel with every controller under the sun. I'd rather just have multiple cabinets even if several of them are mini arcade1up style cabs.

it might be best to wait until the price of lumber comes down enough before building multiple cabinets, otherwise I am trying to come up with a way to make interchangeable modules, I just need some time and motivation.
I don’t want to have to swap an entire panel out, I’m aiming to just swap the individual joystick or couple of buttons in different layouts where each module is maybe 5 inches wide or some thing.
so I can eject an eight way joystick and swap in a four-way, or Rotary, swap out a spinner for a track ball and things like that.

Go go gadget arcade!!! What's your favorite retro game?
I have a real classic dig dug. I started to build another real donkey Kong..have all the parts. And did the blueprint for the cabinet side. It's as far as I got though ..ready to cut the wood and paint...just no time. I have a mame board to put in it.
Love your project! I never saw a spinner before..never heard of that game you said it's in

One of the first games I played in a mall arcade was Dig Dug and as simple as it was, I was too un-skilled so I remember thinking it was a waste of money and I switched to Space Invaders on the other side of the arcade. I wasn't any good at that either but it felt like I was getting better value.
The first game I liked a lot and put a lot of money into was Roc'n'Rope, although I could have sworn it was called Rope Man. Maybe just the marquee said that. Simple 4 level game along the lines of Donkey Kong for simplicity.
As I got older, the games that stand out are Twin Cobra, Contra, Ikari Warriors. I could keep putting money into those no problem. Contra was the first game I bought for the NES after I got it. Also spent a bunch of quarters on Double Dragon, Karnov, Galaga, 1942, Spy Hunter.
I have 3 sheets of plywood in the basement (I snuck those into a drywall purchase since it's probably the only way I'd ever be able to transport something like that) but I think I should finish the basement before re-visiting the cabinet planning.

@@GadgetReboot Good job - I hope we get to see it one day soon. You may inspire me to finish!!!
I need to clean the garage first, and when I do then I will allow myself to continue.
Someone of your caliber can surely figure out DigDug. The trick: Get as many points as you can early on. Always drop rocks, never pump them unless to stun. Dig the paths to the rock long with no espcapes. Get them following you so you can get 2 at once. Now I'll take any tips you can give for Donkey Kong. I really suck at it but love it.

Great video! Unfortunetely I have 28mm button holes in my cabinet with Ultralux LED super clicky buttons which are all soldered. I am thinking about re-drilling or filing the orginal holes to make them 2mm larger and buying a new wiring harness with bare wires at the iPAC end and terminated spade connections at the buttons. Alternatively can you recommend any great quality authentic arcade 28mm buttons that are close to the Sanwa buttons or concave buttons?

I only have these buttons that I believe I got from happ controls between 15 and 20 years ago. I hope to actually build a cabinet and put the stuff to use relatively soon compared to that, I am about to move to a hopefully bigger better place. Maybe then I’ll have more insight and need to search for more parts and see what’s out there.

how the hell do you map it? i cot an ipac controller, but as it has one usb, it overrides each player setting. rather than letting me setup each player individually

Is it 15 pin like the old PC analog joysticks? I wonder if this type of interface to USB would work www.amazon.ca/PCCABLES-COM-Adapter-Rockfire-RM-203-gameport/dp/B01HC36MA4/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=RM-203&qid=1611009108&s=electronics&sr=1-1

Hello bro I would like to ask you a question about using Happ arcade products with the ipac i was wondering if you can tell me if this 6 speed shifter for need for speed can work via the Ipac control interface
    na.suzohapp.com/products/accessories/50-0414-31
The problem with this shifter is that it actually only has 4 micro switches and has several gears assighned to each macro switch to work. Would that be a problem for this interface ?

    • @GadgetReboot
      @GadgetReboot  3 роки тому

looking at page 20 of the need for speed service manual
      service.globalvr.com/downloads/nfs/carbon/040-0182-01a_Carbon_Dedicated_Service_Manual-web.pdf
      and this wiring diagram
      service.globalvr.com/downloads/nfs/diagrams/cbn_std_detailed_wiring.pdf
it looks like it’s just 4 normal single pole single throw switches with a common ground, and iPac works on common ground so it will wire up and the switches can be triggered, then it’s just a matter if the software knows how to use those switches.

@@GadgetReboot thank you for the reply. Therefore the Ipac can recognize gears 5 and 6 as sperate button inputs? I would like to use this shifter for initial d on teknoparrot.

I just returned from bringing some arcade parts to a rented storage unit actually, I’m in the process of selling the house and it will be a while before everything is settled but I have three sheets of plywood waiting to build a cabinet from.
