I think you missed a big part of trackball options. Suzo happ has a “HIGH Lip” , “HIGH Ball” , and a standard lip and ball option. They aren’t all the same and not made with the same housing form factor.

I have the first one you showed. I bought it for a bar top with limited space. I am not happy with the response of it though. It is ok when moving it slow but if moving fast it lags and there is lost motion. I did manage to bend the optical pickups and get it a little better but still not too good. I will be building a new control panel and replacing it with a happ 2 1/4" .

Unrelated question, please: on the wall behind you, is that the backdrop for a 70s baseball game that featured a mechanical bat that you used to hit metal balls? I loved that game.
What size hole do you cut for the ultimarc trackball ?? is there a good tool or bit to do that?? sorry if I missed that ?? Can you use a plunge router to do that ?? You likely use CNC machine ?? Ordered some stuff from you guy's recently; excellent customer service. Received everything in a timely fashion, thanks so much. You are highly recommended in my books. Great video's too btw.
It's a 3" size hole for the Ultimarc trackball. There are templates you can download from Ultimarc's website. If you have the trackball already, measure the outside lip around the trackball mount. If you have the bezel it will cover up any small improfections to might make during the process. If you need anything else feel free to ask.
@@RetroactivearcadeCa thx so much Casey for the swift reply. I heard it was 3 1/2. I have been doing test cuts in scrap pieces of MDF anyhow. Adding a few pinball buttons, USB extenders for joysticks, and HDMI extenders in the side of the control panel which i used Pine. Test cuts all around. The 1 1/8 Diablo panel/spade bit from home depot has made some really nice holes for the buttons and extender's. Thanks, I'll try the 3", maybe i have one in the garage and dont have to buy the 3 1/2. Maybe I could try using the router for that too. Just got a nice new Dewalt plunge router not long ago. Just need a proper circle jig for a router.
@@Dubbloseven it is probably 3 1/2" because the actual ball is 3" but as I mentioned, there is a bezel you can get with it that will allow for you to be a bit bigger and will hide any imperfections like not being a perfect circle etc. Good luck! Sounds like your prepared!

Do you think it's possible to replace an analog stick with a trackball & do they have the same wiring as most arcade sticks?

You will have to get an analog trackball for sure! A USB trackball will not work at all, Check Suzo Happ to find one used for that game.
I have one of the big Happ trackballs in a dedicated 19" Ultracade (2005'ish) that seems to have stopped working (neither axis registers movement.) Any tips on where I should start troubleshooting? Do the green boards go bad?
So are those USB track balls just plug-n-play and recognized as a mouse? Or is there some software you need to install?

With the setup you have your only option is a USB trackball.
So if I have a Pi and RetroPi, can I use a USB controller board and plug the 2" trackball into that, then plug the encoder board into the Pi by USB?
Yes you can use a USB hub to add more USB connections to your Pi and yes you can plug the USB trackball into that.
I currently have a cocktail running the icade 60 in 1, is there a way to use the Ultimarc U-track for this setup? looks nice and easy to install ;)
Sorry there is not. There are specific 60 in 1 trackballs that have the connection required for that board. There may be a way to hack your cable but you would have to figure that out on your own.
can i make this ps/2 one work on win10? ive got a ps/2 port on my mobo but besides the led, nothing is happening

I have a random question, if anyone could please help? I’m trying to wire an ipac 4 and there’s only 2 slots for ground wires, and I have 4 Sanwa JLF sticks with the harnesses. Also can I connect my 4 admin buttons to the button 8 slots since they’re all not being used otherwise? 🙏
Hi, The 2 slots for ground wires is one more than you need. You should daisy chain all your grounds together so make sure to splice you JLF Joystick grounds into it as well. Yes you can use the 7 and 8 buttons slots for your extra admin buttons and then program them to what action you need them to do withing MAME or all your other emulators.

I have an Alf 412 will a trackball hook up to this unit? I'm having issues with it . I bought an USB trackball 1st happ that didn't work then I bought a non USB happ also.. any help would be greatly appreciated!! 🙂

You can only use a 60-in-1 trackball with a conversion harness to the game Elf boards. There is a small rectangular pinned connector input on the side of the Elf box, that is the only way to connect a trackball. USB trackballs will not work on a blue Elf board, that USB port is for a controller only.

@@wilturner29 if you can get the Game Elf harness and hack it into your happ trackball it will work. But you need the harness for sure. The 60 in 1 3" trackball is identical to the suzo 3" trackball except it has different pcbs where the opposite are on yours that have specific pinouts for the Elf harness.
@@RetroactivearcadeCa ok I have the harness but it's still not working 😕. Do I have to go into the menu settings?
@@wilturner29 possibly, you can try that but usually it should just work. Remember, it will only work on trackball games such as Centipede etc. It will not work in anything else including the menu.

Do any trackballs work with Android TV / game box?
To be honest I am not sure because I have never tried it. But I can say that if you plug in a USB mouse and works then a USB trackball will work as well. They work exactly the same.
@@RetroactivearcadeCa would you know if there is a Jamma board that will work with the Android box and the stock arcade1up Golden Tee trackball that I could try this with?
The stock trackball has a 4 pin connection. Or would you recommend using a trackball with a USB connection?
There is no way that all those platforms are compatible with eachother. The jamma is its own setup and is not compatible with anything else even though it is android based. You could hack it but we don't support that.
@@DLWang USB trackball would be your only hope on any of these platforms. You could use the the pinned trackball but you would have to convert it to a USB connection to input it into your android box or jamma anyway.
I have a Suzo Happ trackball although when I looked at it before installation it had chinese branding on it. Could you tell me what this might be? Because whether it is a genuine Happ trackball or some kind of replica it is very high quality and rolls buttery smooth.
First off, they are all made in China! Suzo Happ just assembles them in the USA and says it's made in the USA. They upgrade the bearings and wires but they are essentially the same. Second, if it is a Suzo Happ brand trackball it will have their logo on the bottom, if it is a Chinese logo it is a clone or replica. They are all made in the same factory so its not nessisarily a bad thing unless you paid the retail Suzo Happ price.
@@RetroactivearcadeCa It had chinese characters on the bottom. Same unit as the $180 color changing ball on Happ website, but was $100. Regardless, its performance is fantastic. I was just curious. Thank you.
