I purchased this gun and is perhaps the best shooting gun I own and is now my EDC.
....I own one....I'm very glad to hear your positive feedback ! .....
This gun is amazing! They have fixed all the issues with the mags and the trigger is much lighter after a little break in.
....I own one....I'm very glad to hear your positive feedback ! .....
Just picked up the last one in my area. With covid and unrest in Europe, online orders are a nightmare, just about the best CC weapon I've handed in my 60 years.
Thanks for the review

Not sure why everyone is knocking this gun. It’s just another option to choose from. Good on S&W for doing something totally different and putting this out there.
"Totally different" I think Sig, Springfield, Kimber, Colt all beat them to this gun several decades ago. This is about as "new" as another pocket knife.
Different for Smith. Not talking about about Sig, Springfield and the others.
@@cdlund2840 Umm….metal frame ambi slide release and double stack micro 9 compact… drink more coffee before posting your nonsense.
@@RoadieWingZZ I bought my first S&W in 1975. A S&W model was my first, second and third duty gun. I have owned more than 2 dozen. How much experience with the brand do you have? My guess is very little by your comment.
@@cdlund2840 Sadly your “guess” would be wrong. First S&W acquired in 1973. Lost count of the total number, but easily over 30 that I can specifically remember with 9 in current lineup. I stand by my earlier statement.
Awesome review Alan. It’s always good to see your reviews, coming from you a man who knows his stuff about good quality guns. Great job .
Geez they're going to eat into their own Shield+ sales with this thing. Also, the ambi slide lock/release is a huge bonus compared to all the other micros out there.
Their official micro
I wish the shield plus was in 45
@@justinsmith7245 That .45 round is hard to put in a micro. The Shield 45 is substantially larger than the Shield. Got rid of mine
@@rayhanes1347 I used to own the XDs in 45 and it rough to shoot. 9mm in these tiny guns so far more reasonable.
I don’t think they’re necessarily eating into their Shield Plus market share. IMO, the CSX & Shield Plus appeals to two different types of pistol shooters. They’re just covering all their bases. There are polymer framed striker fired pistol guys, there are the other guys that like a metal framed, single action pistol with a safety, & then there are revolver guys, that Smith has the J-Frames for. Only thing they’re missing is a DA/SA pistol.
First video I have seen from you guys. This man is a great presenter. I like this a lot. Thank you for reviewing this gun.
I appreciate these videos... I think you folks do a great job with explanation. Pros, cons and such... always looking to learn more
Happy New Year, Allen. Nice review, thanks!
Good lighting, good audio, informative and I really appreciate the trigger discipline/safety emphasis. Well done!
1:13 So put your hand in front of the muzzle and pull the trigger. Ban this channel and ban this reviewer.
Great wring-out. Covered all the bases. Interesting iteration for this model. Long live single-action autos.
Another well done, informative video. Thanks.
Almost there. If it were da/sa I’d love to carry it. Just so off maybe it’ll come around but the modularity is a great start for an all metal handgun
Looks like a combination of my Sig p938 and the M&P series. I kinda like it
First time viewer to the channel. Great presentation. Subbed. I really like this pistol. It isn't perfect but, it does pack a lot of sorely missing features from most polymers into a very attractive small package. Well Done S&W. I hope they offer it soon in the 'new' .32 auto mag (30 super carry) as it would instantly increase capacity. I'd like it in a DA/SA, no trigger safety, option too.
Thanks for the review. As always your channel rocks! 👍
Nice review - thank you! That sleeve in the 12 rounder magazine is probably there to protect the ejector when slamming the magazine in.
All I wish is for a company to make a double stack hammer fired double/single action pistol in the size of the Springfield hellcat/shield… no safety just decocker. They were so close with this one
Very informative evaluation. 👏
Great preview. Good looking gun.
I have a S&W m&p 9c and it has flat bottom bags and one with a pinky rest. That to me was the best 2 mags that came with a gun from S&W
Definitely interested in checking one out, might be my first S&W.
Well presented! I've never seen your channel before for some reason, I guess UA-cam finally woke up. Nice to see a new hammer fired design. I'd like to a new small alloy SA/DA hammer fired 9mm, optic ready with 12 rounds and a de-cocker. There just aren't that many handguns that excite me right now. It kinda started with the p320, I just don't like it. Sig come back and make me my pistol! Will be watching more of your stuff and if it's close to this good I'll be subscribed. Thanks for the vid.
Another outstanding review. I may look at this pistol to replace my M&P EZ9 which is a great gun but want something a little smaller. The size, capacity and exposed hammer are very appealing to me. Happy New Year everyone.
The one thing I don't like about my Shield EZ is the internal hammer. I wish they'd have made it external.
Can’t wait until they hit the market. I’d be interested in something a little larger in SA too.
I really like this thing!!! I view it as a replacement for my old 938 or a smaller version of my Wilson Professional. Running cocked and locked on a CCW is normal for me so I'm interested to see how this thing shoots for myself.
Nice reviews. Thanks!
Have a wonderful New Year
Thanks for showcasing this new Smith
O'boyo that is Exactly what I've been looking for (and saying that Smith should reintroduce the aluminum frame 9mm's) and not have to get into the Wilson, Staccato, High-end $price range$
I love the M&P 2.0, I have the full size and the compact full size in 40 and compact in 9mm both with manual safety. Love the feel of both guns easy to point and shoot both are soft shooting. I will be keeping both, i would not trade either one. Grate guns right out the box.
Nice looking firearm and good review. Thank you.
Wish they would have gone with their older double/ single action, like they had on the models 39 & 59s. Those where great guns, just meant your 1st shot was a double action pull, could carry with safety on, and round in the chamber ready to go.
I own a few 2nd and 3rd Gen Smiths
But I really love the 1911 ergonomics and triggers, so Learn to carry Condition 1
@@christopherbishop4927 In, say, appendix carry???????
@@robertl6196 I don't point guns directly at my junk
What do you think of this gun compared to the Sig Sauer 938 Legion? Which is better?
Great information, thank you.
I am an advocate for striker fired for most people, especially new shooters, and still think that's the way to go. However, as a secondary or for someone looking for something with some uniqueness or style? Yeah absolutely. I'd love this as something I carry occasionally versus as my main go to, but I'll be waiting for a DA/SA. Great look though, love the skeletonized hammer.
I’m excited about this and will buy one but I want the big brother version to hit next!!!!!
Great looking pistol, can’t wait to see one at my local gun store, I bet this will be a hot seller for a while. I wonder if S&W will come out with a 45 cal version too? As always good video by you, thanks for sharing.
Ambi Alan
Welcome back
You rock
Thanks
I wish it was in .45 ACP, but I have to admit it still has my attention
This is the first review I have seen of this firearm. Want to check out the S&W M&P 10MM too.
Should have made it to take the shield plus mags. And to add my 2 cents should have been da/sa
I love mine. Being a lefty hard to find a fully ambi micro compact. This definitely covers that for me. Used as my work edc, but i switch to my hellcat osp when off work.
Ccw perfect, for my needs, and also will be good as a backup for hog and gator hunting. Gear starts adding up after humpin a few miles in the bush.
Finally a non striker fired pistol.
Finally? They are all over the damn place

Nice review; thanks!
Always appreciate your work Allen! I am curious what your opinion off the trigger is? Other than gritty? Nutinfancy said it was horrible, over 7lb pull on a single action. Wonder if you just glossed over that as to not shame S&W, or maybe your example was better?
This gun really does it for me, I hope they do a .380 version!
Why?
@@unknownunknown3025 Because people are idiots
@@unknownunknown3025 baby hands 😂
@@unknownunknown3025 380acp should have less perceived recoil with a greater capacity....? Who am I to say though I don't own any 1911's in 45acp, mine are All 10mm
@@christopherbishop4927 380 would hold the same round count as 9mm, maybe 1 more round. 9mm has hardly any recoil.
Ambi safety justified the SA choice imo. This might be my next carry. It's between this and the new Ruger .380
Really hope they ditch the trigger safety, and really really hope they come out is a bigger version of this. Bought one, I like it a lot. I’m used to the trigger - it works. I don’t fear it would fail me.
Love it. Far better than my m and p shield 2.0 by a lot.
I don’t think they’re necessarily eating into their Shield Plus market share. IMO, the CSX & Shield Plus appeals to two different types of pistol shooters. They’re just covering their bases. I agree. This and polymer striker fires are apples and oranges. More choices are a good thing. (I love my Shield Plus, btw!)
It’s a nice gun but my preference is in steel vintage looking guns. Colt 1911’s, Colt Mustang. Great video
S&W needs to put factory night sights on it
Everyone keeps hating on the trigger but in my opinion it's a plus with a 6 & a half pound trigger pull and a dingus safety you can carry this gun cocked and unlocked giving you the advantage of a single action pistol but with a double action trigger granted it unconventional but I'm digging it
I think this but with a single action double action trigger would of been a winner but this looks interesting. My first carry gun was a p238 years ago n this reminds me of that.
Hopefully they'll make a full size one with a rail. Then I'll be interested, especially if it takes regular M&P mags.
Affordable 2011 like Firearm? Hey Smith, you listening?!
Good review…thanks!
Great video
Thank you
Just picked this one up from my local gun shop yesterday. It is very nice, feels solid, and I have smaller hands but I'm able to get a full grip on this. It feels like it has enough weight to mitigate recoil. Just imagine it the same as a Sig 938 but a bit larger.
How do you like the trigger so far ?
@@stoegerstewie8351 It feels really nice after about 200 rounds. Like Alan mentioned, it needs a break in period. The first 100ish rounds it was a bit rough. But closer to 200 rounds it starts to have a more crisp break. There is a bit of take before you hit the wall, I'm guessing it could be from the trigger safety on it. It's not gonna be like a Staccato trigger like @Trey Scott would like but it's feels solid in the hands, the textured backstrap and under the trigger guard gives it great feedback and feel in the hands when shooting it.
Can't wait for the 4" optics ready with a rail.
Yes sir as soon as that comes out I’ll buy it.
Isn't it funny how the manufacturers are gradually moving back to the 1911 pattern? 😏
I bought one and it’s a solid handgun for sure. Only issue is when the ten round magazine is loaded to capacity the magazine expands by .010 of an inch and won’t seat. Eight rounds isn’t a problem and the twelve round works fine at capacity.
mine had the same size spring that the 12 rd mag has.i cut 1 coil bent the end just like factory an it works perfectly now 10 rds easy n all good
it's another damn fine lookin' S&W
Good to the point review….👍😊
Hope they make this in .45ACP. In the 80s I carried a STAR PD and felt confident with the 6 round magazine load. Things have changed, though, what with mobs attacking people.
Agree.....I have a pristine PD that has had some mods done to it....including having it Nickel-Boron coated for rust resistance and wear protection of the aluminum ( in-frame) feed ramp. Very accurate......very reliable....but yeah, 6 rd mags. But then again..... 45 ACP. Very under-appreciated gun that stands the test of time. Just a tad larger than the CSX. With modern loads and 10-13 rds....the CSX looks good. (LATER EDIT).....wow....what is it with all these guys in the comments section wanting SA/DA?. What an awful setup. Heavy first shot with a light 2nd shot that will never place the first (quickly needed) 2 shots in the same place. Why do people think this is so great? Single action cocked-n-locked and swiping the safety off while bringing the gun "up" wastes no time at all. And the potential for a much cleaner, crisper trigger using a SA-only setup. What's the problem other than having a preconceived bias against this setup?
Had one, thing was a brick, wish I still had it.
Great review; however, the best part was about the finger discipline "FIX IT" lol
Ah dawn it. I just got the Mossberg MC2SC.... But I also really like this new CSX!
You made the right choice..
If it was DA I’d be trying to preorder. But definitely keeping an eye open for this
Thanks for the info. We already have people calling our shop but haven’t seen anything from the distributors. I really didn’t see this coming. Although I’m in my 60’s and love 1911 style pistols, it seems this is only going to appeal to a small populace of the carry market. I would much rather S&W bring out a Plus version of the Shield EZ .380. That would sell like crazy and it’s a proven platform. We sell a ton of the current version and my wife carries one. Lastly. Does the CSX footprint compare more closely to a Glock 42 or 43? No video I’ve seen mentions this.
Video was great...Thanks!
Not sure why people are scared of carrying a SA, if you get a good kydex holster, its practically impossible for the trigger to be manipulated in any way while its holstered, plus it has a safety.
I also see some people who are die hard "No carry gun should have a safety" bashing on this. That comes down to training yourself to unholster the handgun and flicking that safety off as you come on target. It's just muscle memory training. I remember a video I watched about an Uber drive who was being car jacked, he was carrying a Glock 26 I think, we all know obviously they have no safeties. When he saw the opportunity, he pulled out his Glock and tried shooting the guy but his gun never went off. The crook then fled when he saw a gun pointed at him. The guy then realized his glock didnt go off because he never touched the trigger. He was just pressing his finger hard against the frame where it normally rests in trigger discipline. Sort of as if his normal firearm handling muscle memory took over.
Many years ago, I saw a guy empty his Model 94 Winchester at a fleeing deer. All the while yelling “There he goes!” Nope, he never pulled the trigger… Boy, did we have fun with him on the long walk back to camp!
Gotta have the little S&W.
Safeties are important on single action guns like this. People who have only ever shot Striker Fired guns, which are basically long two stage single action triggers because of takeup, dont know what a true Single Action gun is
A lot of people are not competent or comfortable enough to carry a firearm, and they nurse their incompetence by carrying with an empty chamber, and or DA/SA and striker fired guns. A proper holster and trigger discipline are the best safeties anybody could have.
If not for the fact I live in Commie California I would definitely get one. I love the 1911 and prefer metal guns.
They .380 idea is also great
Looks good. Thanks S & W. Price point is a little high though.
I'd be curious to see a comparison of this pistol to the m&p shield plus.
TY! An over-zealous, under-educated cop DESYTROYED my UNIQUE( as in NO PARTS AVAILABLE/ANYWHERE) pocket rocket that I had carried going on two decades. I searched high/ low for a similar replacement. Closest was LC/EC9 Ruger. No major complaints. I own/enjoy sev Rugers. HOWEVER, this CSX is exactly what I was looking for!! No rail 4 position-givaway-lights. 1911 style op. 12 cap. And best of all, NO DAM OPTICS ON A BELLY GUN!! I can use that 2-3 lost seconds wasted on acquiring a "sight picture", to actually focusing on stopping an attack. Which can be accomplished by pointing a finger, and pulling a lever@ a target within point blank range.(after all, how many attacks occur half a football field, or farther, away?)
I want to hear more about this unique gun and how it was destroyed.
@@sundriedplatypus sure! North American Arms, Kansas City, Kansas. P-model sumpin. Made under franchise from Walther. .22 cal, 7+1 mag. Visually looked like 1911.( they also made 2 other models. the Luger lookalike was P33, and the Bersa lookalike I dont remem that model # either. Made 1993-1994. One run contract. Over/Out. Very accurate to 25yds. Cheap aluminum, wears fast. (pocket carried for 16-17 yrs, daily) hammer block safety, 12lb trigger safetyDa/8 lbSA. Wuz confident in both gun and my ability. No more. Cop dropped it bbl2pavement while attempting to unload it. At that time, I was unaware of exact damage. Even after checking @ range, unaware until 3 or4th range visit. Vertically, shoots normal.Cant right, same. Cant left, locks open after EVERY shot. After much examination, found it was made w/2.5 mm+ ball bearing. Found bearings online. Works w/heavy grease for short period, then new bearing falls out. NOT suitable for self-defense. Still take it to range, just make sure to hold vertically. I miss my buddy everyday! I just today found out about S&W CSX in 9 milliliter(spelling is correct). It may become my new buddy.
@@michaeldaltonsr8954 A sad story. Thanks for sharing.
I would have been all over this if it was double single action. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
Agreed! If they made this is DA/sa id pre-order it. Id love an optic cut but ill take anything double single in this size and capacity.
Looks kool but I’m already use to my g19 or czp07 with wml
looks great, I would buy it if it had a rail. id like to be able to see what I'm aiming at!
I'm looking forward to a Performance Center version
Thanks Allen.
I'm sure Trijicon already has night sights for it and someone is already working on laser/lights that can mount to the trigger guard (Crimson Trace 🤔). Like the Shield Plus I would think they will offer a red dot version down the road and possibly different calibers as well. I like the looks of it and think it will do well. Thanks for the great work and God bless 🙏🛐🗽🦅🇺🇸👏👍
Thanks for sharing
Saw one locally, looks like a winner.
Love it, but I'll wait for the performance center treatment.
I want this with the same grip length but with a 4” barrel.
Can't wait for the M&P performance center version.
I’m sure someone would love it
Call me back when the DA comes out.
Good video.....
You really need to compare this CSX new gun to the length of the Hellcat and the P365...... '
You really SHOULD do a comparison video asap.... I would love to see how it sizes up
to the 365 ..... BE the first one to come out with the comparison...... Thank you
I suspect S&W isn't allowing them to do that as a condition of getting this gun for free before it hits retail. Did you notice how he compared this gun with single-stacked subcompacts but didn't even mention the P365 that this was clearly designed in response to and as competition for?
Nice little gun.
I'm interested . but wish it had a optic option...for now I stay with the m&p sheild plus.....for carry......let it come out and prove itself first......I'd carry my fullsize 1911 but weight all day is to much
Awesome!!
I would consider buying this of the extended the barrel to a glock 19 length an kept the grip the same
I guess I'm old fashioned I still like a gun with a hammer
Gonna bet me one of these on oct 29th gun show. Selling my pos kahr k9.
Always love this type of pistol expose hammer all steel, only thing though I do not like the ability to wreck your slide when the safety is on like you said if you’re going to carry a firearm you should be competent with it and know not to put your finger in the trigger guard as you’re racking the slide, to me I would think in a high-pressure situation it would be much easier to realize what is going wrong with your gun not firing if you cannot rack your slide because your safety is on rather than you racking your slide and your gun still not shooting and high-pressure situation it is things like that they can get you killed while you’re sitting there pondering what is going on with your firearm
Would love to see this in DA/SA with a decocker only, no safety.
The whole marketing concept behind this SINGLE ACTION subcompact was to offer a choice to people who DON'T want DA/SA with decockers, no safety i.e. Glock Culture.
I'll buy one.
Gonna wait for the 2.0 version before I get one
Ikr
A compact 2.0 would be better for me haha
If that was DA/SA i would be all over it. Not a SAO fan. My 1911 buddies will be on it like stink on poo. Many carry Mustang clones. Good review.
