    Just over 1800 rounds through my CSX, and I've had no problems or complaints. My only advice would be, if you buy a new gun you should definitely spend the time shooting it to get to know each gun's personality.... As for me, great job Smith & Wesson I find it much better than my shield!

    I’ve put around 700 rds through mine including 150 today alone. ZERO problems with the trigger. Just in case y’all missed that, ZERO PROBLEMS WITH THE TRIGGER. It’s very accurate, great feel in my hand. Love that it’s hammer fired, I carry cocked and locked. No issues with the back strap either. Excellent firearm!

      I rented an extended range session with this gun against my Carry Shield. I suspected something was up when the rangemaster said if I liked it, he would make a screaming deal on it for me.
      I really wanted to like it, especially if I could get a deal on the gun. After putting several full mags through the gun, operationally, its fine, the accuracy was good, but that trigger presents a bit of an identity crisis. It should shoot like a hammer-fired single action (1911ish) but shoots like a striker-fired double action. I realize that is not operationally how it works, but to me it is how it feels, and therein lies the problem. In the end I just didn't like it, but that is why there are hundreds of different choices when it comes to guns.

    Thanks for this. Hogue has confirmed that they'll be making a grip mold for this gun as well, so that'll fix any grip issues anyone had. The false reset also goes away after some breaking in, reportedly.

    Having went to school for gun repair and servicing about 50 years ago, and still keeping up with the current technology this article is spot on. This particular pistol is average and actually works very well. If you want the reset to feel better and smoother you can fire a thousand rounds through it and the trigger group will wear to a smoother release. If you want instant results take it apart and stone all rough parts and use a honing grease and this will solve your " I want it now." I have worked on four pistols of this type for people that purchase3d it and were concerned because of misinformation. That being said there are many self appointed experts on the internet as well as uninformed, unknowing critics. This particular gun is a good one. The information given in this post is accurate and factual! Please keep up the good work and excellent reviews. My hat is off to you.!

    Traction Grips has a set of grips for the CSX. It wraps around the front strap, covers the bare spots on the grip. Cost less than $10 and is applied in about 10 minutes.

    G4 I'm in the same boat as you.
    I purchased one when they 1st came out, never seen a review until long after.
    The "trigger issue" is (and I agree with you) a non issue. I never noticed it until I watched reviews.
    Something I have found, after shooting about 3000 rounds through it, is the false reset is nearly non existent.
    I think the S&W haters just had to find something to hang thier hat on with the new csx

  • @jamesgreenbaum5729
    @jamesgreenbaum5729 Рік тому +2

    S&W CSX is designed for close body concealment. It is not intended for target shooting or ninnies who want to ride the trigger in an attempt to shave 1/10000ths of a second off their score. In a defensive situation it is doubtful that anyone would have the time to listen or feel for the false reset. There is not a firearm in existence that cannot be defeated by the operator's failure to fully release the trigger. Someone started the discussion which has become an obsession in these reviews. To be fair, it would be great to show a comparison of how any gun can be rendered useless by not allowing the trigger to reset.

    I love my CSX. Crisp 5.5 pound trigger that feels better than the one on my Shield Plus. Lighter and much smaller too. Incredible build quality and value. My only complaints..and they are negligible..are the very light return trigger spring and the lack of factory night sights. And both of those will be fixed shortly..along with the wraparound traction grips I just ordered.

    Good job of addressing the "so called issues" on the CSX. Every gun has it's own little quirks to figure out and get used to. EVERY gun. It's the owners responsibility to figure them out and learn what to do about them. My neighbor and I finally got to handle a CSX last week and it's an awesome gun. He's going to buy one. He SHOULD have bought the one we looked at because now they're out of stock. But, after watching your videos and handling one, he's ready to purchase. Thanks for everything you guys do.

    All the "UA-cam Pros" are playing games shooting at targets. None of targets can injure, shoot or stab them, or kill them. However, I believe shooting off of reset will not be an issue when the pressure of an actual self-defensive response is used.

    I've had one since it was released I shoot it pretty darn good. My front strap is solid as of now and as far as the trigger goes I have no issues with it. There might be a false reset but honestly I've never noticed it when at the range. It's a close range carry gun it doesn't have to have a perfect trigger. It's definitely good enough as far as I'm concerned.

    Now I'm used to shooting a 1911. My first shot l took...yes it is a little weird with the trigger on resetting.
    But after putting around 1000 RDS through it, it's not bad. You have to make adjustments from a 1911 to the csx. Or any other hand gun.Over all it is a nice gun.

    The “false reset” goes away. It’s an excellent pistol and in my experience, what I put in the sights at any distance I hit. Well balanced. I did have an issue early on where it had a defective component in the slide assembly that was corrected under warranty and I have shot over 1000 rounds through it since S&W replaced the slide and it has been trouble free.

    To be honest and fair, those were his 1st shots and he did mention that every gun requires a little getting used to. He didn’t call it a crappy trigger. He just doesn’t see any point in a trigger safety on that kind of gun. I tend to agree, but I also agree that with training you can make it work. I would also point out that he shoots a lot of guns in those conditions with gloves on and doesn’t have that problem with any of them. I’m getting a CSX tomorrow, so I’m glad I’m aware of the false reset and I’m certain I can deal with it.

  • @user-ln1ph7tt6d
    @user-ln1ph7tt6d 10 місяців тому

    My CSX "false reset" went away after about 200 rounds. My trigger breaks consistently at 4.5 pounds and that's fine because it has a thumb safety. My only concern was the three dot sights. I painted the front sight with fluorescent green paint and it helped a lot in target acquisition. Comparison with the Sig P365 created a conundrum. Took a while to decide that I was more accurate and enjoyed shooting the CSX more.

  • @toobeer
    @toobeer 2 роки тому

    I went deep into the internals of my CSX and polished all parts that rub together to smooth it out without shooting hundreds of rounds.
    After careful inspection, I determined the so called "false reset" although there, was a result of what I will call the safety bar coming off the firing pin stop plunger (similar to the one found in a Glock). The bar snaps off the plunger and that manifests itself as a reset before the actual reset which happens when the trigger bar goes forward of the sear as the trigger is released.
    I blocked the firing pin stop plunger in the depressed position which is the operational position it takes when the trigger is pulled rearward. This took the plunger completely out of the operational picture, put the slide back on and tested for the false reset. It was completely gone.
    The spring under the plunger is quite robust which I think leads to the reset feel as the safety bar that depressed the plunger in the first place slides off of it upon reset.
    Polishing components did help, but minor altering of the plunger did the most good. The false reset is mostly gone and the firing pin safety feature still does its job by not letting the firing pin go forward unless the trigger is pulled.

    Thaks for the review that I have found to be much more informative & revealing of the CSX. I agree 100% with your findings. This is a great c/c pistol for me. It is not realy a tactial pistol as a Sig 226 or other tactial pistols that are set up for quick bumps/reset and tactial response. As for a good trustworthy c/c pistol with a 12 round mag , I find it very appealing. The trigger is what it is for genralized c/c pistol. It's all metal which I like, pin fired and very accomdating to a 1911 as I have been used to most of my life. Like another gentleman stated, I have ran about 2k of rounds using different manufactors ammo with only having 2 missfire being both times with crappy reloads.

      Exactly!
      I've seen the issue on another gun channel and they demonstrated exactly that point
      The magazine swells when fully loaded making it nigh on impossible to insert into the gun.
      The fault also was identified:
      Stripped the magazine and found that during production they did not affix the top of the magazine spring to the follower.
      Once they reattached abra-cadara no more issue!

    I hear two consistent complaints about the trigger. The “false reset” and the trigger weight. The false reset is a non issue, however i can agree with the weight issue . If you have a 1911 style single action trigger but it’s at almost 7lbs, then is it even single action anymore lol.

    I don't shoot off of reset. For me personally, If I need to defend myself, I can't imagine that I will feel that reset whatsoever. While I do want a gun that's trigger resets as forcefully as it should, this isn't a range toy, so I think that it's questionable to make a massive issue out of the reset. Not trying to seem like a jerk, just trying to keep a real world perspective on this.

    Its got that metal frame gun's gun kind of feel and weight to it and a lot of safety features. It seems like a good starter pistol for someone who might be slightly more sqeemish about guns and doesn't want something that feels like a toy to them.

    I ride motorcycles, precise throttle actuation is a must, it's in constant use.
    My new gun, not so much, brought it for a specific reason, the guy sneaking in my daughter's bedroom!
    After that, fun toy to look at, with a great story.
    Sure hope it isn't my Son-in-law getting off early.

    Im more comcerned with feed/jamming issues the other kimber and sig micros seems to have. Many bad reviews where the guns have to be returned. I am leaning s&w for capacity and reliability. Trigger reset is a non issue as well as more that 20 yard accuracy. Doubt i would try to shoot that far

  • @GreenFloyd

    What's the big deal with the trigger? If you wanted this as your main edc gun wouldn't you drill and practice with it? I felt like if I had it I'd know subconsciously after two clicks the trigger was successfully reset and in a defensive situation I'd be fine as long as I practiced with it especially if you had practice with double action pistols and etc. But I really think this isn't a serious issue or a deal breaker. I think it's up to personal preference and comfort.

  • @frankoftheforest

    for being pretty much the first single action micro double stack. you would think the trigger should be the main attraction. that's why everyone is hating on it.

    I really enjoy the fit in the hand and how mine shoots, but Smith and Wesson QA let a bad one slip by and I had the misfortune of buying it. Mine has a defective and very loose safety lever on the left side of the frame, which presses in and gouges the frame if you try to engage it it with your thumb the way one would if you were right handed like I am. The temp fix is to engage the safety from the right side of the frame with my index finger before I holster, then disengage the safety normally with my thumb when I draw. So far my attempts to reach Smith and Wesson by email have gone unanswered for 3 weeks. I will try calling them to see how they want to deal with fixing it. I will update here on how well they handle it.
    Again, I really love the idea, how it shoots, and the form factor, but I wish I hadn't gotten unlucky with the one I bought (though googling it seems like a handful of other people have my issue too).

    I am really excited about the possibilities for this pistol. I WANT it to be great. And certainly any trigger CAN be learned. But to me (I'm not a fan of striker fired triggers), the biggest selling point of single action is an awesome trigger. The trigger plus the grip strap weirdness plus several reports of full magazine issues are enough for me to wait and hope S&W comes out with an improved version. But I certainly get your point and the fact that you still like it so much says a lot.

      Trigger issue works itself out the more you break it in by firing. I've seen a lot of owners say it goes away with a couple hundred rounds. Lots of youtube reviewers aren't gonna get that many rounds through a new pistol for a review unless they're really about it. If you think about it, time and ammo are more of a concern for a gun reviewer so there's gonna be a lot of people without broken in models because of it.

    I like my CSX but the only issue I have with it is the 12rd mag is a absolute BASTARD to release the slide when it is inserted. I have to use use my thumb and fore finger on each side to release it. Its fine with the 10 rd mag though. Seems like my 12 rd mag is a bit out of spec or something.

    It seems to me the trigger is catching on the firing pin block when the trigger is released.
    If you remove the slide and carefully pull the trigger and let the hammer down then push the disconnected down(located on the right side of the pistol). Then the trigger will reset with out the false reset.
    Seem the part of the trigger that depresses the firing pin block when firing is catching in the firing pin release button when the trigger is released.
    Rounding off the back edge of the firing pin blocker MAY solve the problem.
    I don’t know. After about 250 rounds I have no problem with the gun as it is.
    I’m not a gun smith and this is only my opinion.

  • @Scooter-dm3qo

    Watch Hickok45's second video on his sample. At one point he completely remove his finger from the trigger and even then the trigger doesn't reset. IMO there are two issues in play, a sub optimal design for the trigger group and variations in Manufacturing that make these pistols not worthy of consideration for Defense.

  • @nunnaurbzznzzz1734
    @nunnaurbzznzzz1734 Рік тому +2

    Someone needs to open up the pistol and examine the trigger and action movement to see if they can figure out what is causing the "bump" during reset.
    I would not be surprised to find out that it is a burr or rough spot in the action that can easily be stoned smooth!!!

    • @g4outdoors
      @g4outdoors  Рік тому

      I wouldn’t call it a double reset, but that is what it is. The first reset is the trigger safety the second reset is the sear reset.

      @@g4outdoors Something must be hanging up but is getting worn down smooth if owners are reporting the click is gone after putting 500+ rounds through the pistol.
      I would love to see a teardown side by side comparison of a newer pistol and one that has been broken in.

    I'm a trigger reset snob, and those guys are straight up making sht up and need to stop riding their reset so hard.
    The Fake reset is OBVIOUSLY not a reset.
    The only actual problem with the CSX is the garbage 10 round mag that refuses to seat unless the slide is open.
    (therefore you have to use the 10 round as a backup mag, while the 12 can be used like any other mag)

    trigger reset is an important part of shooting fundamentals for beginners, once skills are refined, you focus more on the beginning of the trigger press. Ultimately, Trigger reset is not what aims the firearm and it is not what sends the round downrange. Some folks are too obsessed on something that ultimately does not matter in a gunfight. My 2 cents worth..

    They made this gun to look like a mini-1911 such as the Mustang, or P938 that uses P365's magazines, kind like best of both worlds. But unlike the other designs it doesn't do a good copy job: instead of 1911 style grip panels it uses M&P-like grip module, so the sides are completely slick when you use the small grip; and instead of tried and true front checkering, they glued a piece of rubber in there like an after thought. It's such an half-assed job that instead of homage it's more like insult to John Browning :)
