Thank you! I didn’t know when I ordered my DIY security system I would need to have a doorbell already and drill holes. I’m not a damn electrician. Thank you!🙌🏾
Always love watching your videos and definitely agree that the wired doorbells are much better than the battery versions. I guess this install is a good solution, if there was absolutely no way for you to drill any holes at all, but I would imagine if you could drill a small hole, you could feed the ac adapter wire through the wall and just mount the doorbell on the outside of the house without the BOA mounting bracket and it's related hassles, and having wiring attached to a moving door.
Wired is definitely better! I have friends who don't have any wires and went with wireless Eufy doorbells, and though they "meet" the doorbell needs, it doesn't capture everything like a wired with the pre-roll and such.
Is there a way to do this but also be able to connect to a non Wi-Fi system? We have a Swann completely wired system and no Wi-Fi in the home. I'm struggling to figure out how to be able to have a doorbell cam, if it's even possible.
I’m confused, how does this enclosure stop people stealing the doorbell unless at least some of it is wedged behind the hard plastic pieces, surely you can just pull the plastic out as it’s flexible and then just pulled the doorbell out of the enclosure as it’s not actually screwed to anything
@@5phany5 that’s unlikely to work, superglue is unlikely to bond strong enough to keep the plastic in place, especially plastic on plastic, perhaps some epoxy glue might work, but I wouldnt trust an expensive doorbell to an extremely thin connection of glue that I’m fairly sure an opportunistic thief could pull out of place with only a small amount of effort
@@LifeHackster absolutely if the guy has a screwdriver he’s stealing your doorbell, I’m just not sure I’d be confident using that particular holder unless it wasn’t trivial to yank the doorbell out, definitely a gap in the market there for a no fixing wired doorbell holder
You can use the adapter I mentioned it will work and charge your battery doorbell …except for the eufy 1080p grade battery doorbell which you will need a micro USB cable.

Another good review! Which doorbell are you currently using? You were a fan of ring pro before and kept going back, but then the Eufy wired dual cam. Did you decide to switch after all?
My vertical door gap is really small, like 0.1-0.2cm, I do not think these plates that use vertical door gaps will work for my country's doors. Is there any alternatives to no screws installation but still have a casing, preferably metal ones to hold doorbells?
Depending on which country one lives in, will this fit most run of the mill UK doors? Some Asian countries for example have thinner door than UK ones for example. Thanks in advance.
@@LifeHackster yeah my family has the security system and we are almost paying 80$ for a smart hub with sensors with a doorbell camera and an outdoor camera. when we get out of our contract we will probably go with cove.
since the doorbell sits on the door itself this means the wire is flexing and could fray over time. This is why electronic deadbolts always use batteries.
using a mount like that is the only way I can think of that you'd be able to use the ac adapter like he shows, it is against fire code to run non romex power thru the wall
Idea is cool but the plastic screen can still be ripped out if the theives want a free door bell camera. Respectfully I wouldn't recommend this route to anyone.
Why do you move the power supplies around so quickly, so that I can't see the output of the power supplies? Please hold the power supplies still for about 15 seconds, or verbally tell their output values.
I don't see how a small doorbell camera is going to be hard to steal in that setup. Also don't wired doorbells run a bit hot and need a metal plate on the back as a heat sink? Being surrounded by foam would be detrimental to the life span of the unit? Nice idea though. A 3D print of a custom enclosure would probably be optimal in this case.
This is to discourage people from messing with it. If a person is really wanting to steal your doorbell, they will take it even when it is bolted down. True on the heat issue. I ran this for several days no issues but I’ll do a long term test and see if this will hold up.
3d prints have problems with warping from being too hot in the sun, unless you are doing resin printing but those are brittle and would crack apart from very little force
@demarko9999 When you say a security door, do you mean something like a screen door or a storm door that goes in front of your front door? How does that work when you have to open the security door? Does your security door open inward or outwards?
@@speckledbird it is mounted to the top of where the regular door is, it's not physically attached to my metal security gate. the USB is thin enough to go thru the door and I tack the wire just like the video to the nearest outlet next to the door
Well, this most certainly would not fit our door (our door overlaps with the frame, and the door has a multi point locking system, which is engaged by lifting up the door handle, then turning the key 360 degrees in the lock direction, to unlock, the key is turned 360 degrees in the unlock direction, then the handle is pushed down, and depending on the configuration of the door, the key may need to be turned in the unlock direction to retract the latch, our doors are configured so that no key is needed when they are unlocked)
my blink video door bell works great without any of this and costs 35 dollars, unreal value. i wired it to the chime which I think allows a few more features, rings the chime inside, and saves battery. yes a wired one will be better but i think you need to take the L on this one hackster 🤣 This doesnt seem like a very elegant solution. However I think video doorbell makers need to make one that has wired features with just chime wiring. Even a tiny amount of power should be enough if they tried I assume. I mean cameras work over POE that I doubt is pushing much juice. Same thing I think camera makers need to work on cameras that have wired features and quality, just are wireless with a solar panel/battery combo for power. Noone seems to do this but it seems like it should be possible. Whoever does these idea first will make a lot of $ I think.

You can use the adapter I mentioned it will work and charge your battery doorbell …except for the eufy 1080p grade battery doorbell which you will need a micro USB cable.
On the power adapter, what is the output? Is the output 5V 2A DC, or 5V 2A AC? OR a higher volt and higher amp?
The output for video doorbell adapters are 18 volts AC or 24 volts AC.

It's good people living apartment building no screws
most doorbells are only two screws, easily filled with caulk or wood filler ect when removing
So you are saying I can just use a ac outlet and maybe drill a a small hole and connect it to the camera and run it to my outlet.

True..but there is slack on the wire clips and it might take a lot of door openings and closings for the wires to give in.

Finally
If you have a glass or old school screen door then I guess it wouldn't work too well.
A security door perhaps?
Actually, the motion detection should work through glass on truly wired doorbells because they don’t use PIR sensors.
