Excellent, real world review RM & I love the way you take manufacturers to task for needless fiddling and debate their cost cutting / revenue generation tricks. You're bang on about the clock lines - it was the first thing I noticed when I saw the bike at the NEC. Between this & the Speed Twin's illegible new instrument graphics, I think you have a point!
Thanks for another unbiased and informative review. So many on UA-cam these days seem to say they love every bike they test and rarely find anything negative to say. Maybe they don't want to harm their chances of getting more test rides and therefore views in the future. I've always felt you're honest in what you say and the Rocket score lets us know where the bike excels or falls short. Keep up the good work!
Really good review. Enjoyed the scenery as much as the bike. Up until 2 years ago spent 4 months of every year in the Algarvian sun with ger ladyship before she joined me in the UK. I've actually bought smaller every year for the last 15 or so. Currently cb500x which we both love, especially after our Greece trip. New subscriber. Thank you for sharing
Always amazes me that they make a bike that only someone with a 31-32" inside leg (Inseam) can ride, so lets say 6' tall, and then fit a screen suitable for someone 5'-4" It's too tall for me, and oddly the dealer network in the UK is not great, and has a poor reputation near me, so not for me. A good honest review as always! Thank you.
Hi, I've just test ridden this bike and have a 29" inside leg, the bike i rode was fine and I could put both feet on the ground no worries, I really like this model, try one...
@@36moto Thank you for the info and your experience with the test ride. The seat height is listed as 835mm (nearly 33") So, I can only think the rear shock compresses quite a bit. There's a new dealership opened not far from me, I may well go and have a look. You thinking of buying one after your test ride?
It looks as if Triumph have done a great job with the bike...I have to agree it does look great in blue. Good to see Michelin Road5s fitted as standard. The lack of a centre stand is a bit disappointing mind you especially for a bike that's being touted as a potential tourer. Great review and thanks for posting.
Great review - the bike looks fantastic in that colour, plus the weather there really brings out the blue. I've never been to Portugal, but looking at your mid summer UK weather that you're enjoying in January, I need to go to extend my riding season as my bike is tucked away for the winter now and has been for a few months while the gritters are out and about. Keep up the good reviews, very interesting.
All that salt on the UK roads is putting me off even driving the car. Never mind the bike. That film of salt is evil. I just drove 1 mile and its just coated everywhere!
Thanks, Edward. Yes, we're very lucky down here: winter only lasts from the end of November to the end of January, so we can enjoy our bikes almost all year round.
I totally get that. I spent the first 20 years of my life in East Yorkshire, followed by 30 years in the north of France, where the weather is actually worse than in the UK. It does occasionally snow in parts of Portugal, though not down here in the Algarve. My wife, who is Brazilian, has never seen snow or ice in her life!
Thanks for the nicely balanced review. I've been waiting for the Tiger 660 as I've been looking at this range (the bike equivalent of an SUV) for a while. While I create more space in the garage for another bike, I've been trying to decide if I should wait for this or go for the Tracer 7 or get an older Tiger 800. Currently using my partner's NC750X which I find is a perfectly nice bike to ride (we're both new riders) but, at 6'1", it's a bit cramped for my legs (although I suffer on the windscreen just as much as you described on the new Tiger).
I think it should sell pretty well. Adding a deflector on a screen that is too low should not interfere with your eye line anymore than a higher windscreen, plus the deflector also offers a greater range of adjustment.
Nice video and thanks for all of you honest reviews. It'd be great if you could do a couple vids riding the test bikes in the twisties (cornering/braking/couple downshifts) instead of just "cruising" around. Portugal has lots of nice roads!
Great review. I certainly agree with your perspective on the windscreen. I’d rather not have one, if the wind (and elements) are directed to my helmet. It certainly is a beautiful bike. Thanks for sharing. Be safe and take care my friend.
Fantastic review as always!! Despite all the hype from the media, was looking forward for your review on this bike. I tried the Trident last year, loved it, but what kept me away was the lack of pillion comfort, or even a decent space - for that matter, for the Mrs. Does the Tiger 660 offer a better comfort for the passenger, so Mrs and I can tour with.. err.. 'confidence'?. ☺️😄
Thanks, Prajwal :) There's definitely more room on the Tiger. The only problem for the passenger would be clambering up onto the high rear seat. You need to try it :)
love the bike less room for a pillon all the better if it means the misses aint getting on it and ruin my fun plus i take all reviews with a pintch of salt as you have to test it for yourself to get a feel for it and if its the right bike for you
Really enjoy your videos and unbiased reviews. Love the subtle dry humour and your comment about the new seat material “offering as much grip as the condom” made me laugh out loud. 😆👍🏼
Hey mate just found your channel. I like your reviews, not the most entertaining but you tell me what I want to know. I am very fussy and I appreciate the honesty.
Hi there! Very good video as always. You thank about the CB500X a lot but the real competitor from Honda is the NC750x. I got one. 😁 Try to test ride one NC and then compere to the tuger 660. Many thanks
@@kelljah it does it job perfect. If you ride normaly and in sport mode is more than enought. Only if you try to be Marc Marquez in public road you will fill the diferent.
I would like to see what you think of the new Ducati monster 950. But i have no idé what kind of bikes you can get your hands on. Thx for the very informative first thoughts.
I have had the same thought as you about the cruise control. With an electronic injection engine it is very simple to add a cruise control. Any brand could do it to any platform and set its brand apart from others for increased sales. The problem in this case is that the tiger 660 would be i direct competitor to the tiger 900. This is why it doesn’t have it. You can easily see examples of this. If you look in triumphs parts cataloque the cruise control button for the t120 fits the entire 900/1200-platform. The street twin and t100 doesn’t have it because they would compete with the t120. The street scrambler would compete with the scrambler 1200. The speed twin would compete with the thruxton. According to my Triumph dealer the function of cruise control can even be activated in the ECU on those models, making it even more obvious that it a consious and tactical move since it fits in the parts catalogue but is not available in the accessories cataloque. If im not mistaken i think both the trident and the tiger 660 already have throttles prepared for cruise control disengagement, much like the one that is fitted to the tiger 900. As ive also seen that you like Honda i might also mention that Honda fitted cruise control to their rebel 1100 because it doesn’t compete with anything else that Honda is selling. The nc750 does though, especially with the nt1100 but also with the cheaper version of the africa twin. This is also why neither xadv nor forza 750 got cruise control but this was a major oversight in my opinion since the direct competitor of those models is the tmax which has cruise control and much more. You might otherwise think that cruise control would be a cheap way to make the forza more attractive than the tmax especially combined with the better mpg that the forza offers.
@@RocketMan_Moto so do i and it feels like the most logical choice would be to fit it on any bike that is designed to do high amount of miles like the tiger 660 for example that is already reinforced in the subframe to carry heavier loads and has panniers and a top box in the catalogue. Unfortunatly the decisions on this matters is made by the marketing team rather than the product developers.
Hello, I don't know much about the Algarve roads, mostly just the ones I use when I go there, not too far from you, starting point closer to Lagos, you have N120, good fun twistie road, at some point it divide in 2 N120 and 120-1 the older part is a lot more fun IMO, not so good asphalt but also no traffic and fun curve after fun curve, enjoy and thank you for the review
@@RocketMan_Moto Hope to do the full N2 this year, add it programmed for last year but opted for "Picos da Europa" instead, wich if you don't know I highly advise, a bit of a travel from Algarve but specially for bike riders xtremelly worth it, closest thing we have to Alps nearby. On my early recomendation I was going more in a "twistie" aspect of the road then a scenic one, although its not ugly has well.
Agree about wind noise factor on nakeds vs screens. I discovered that on Bonnevilles: better off for me with no screen. I compromised with my current (dare I say it - f900xr) by getting a MRA Vario which is quick to change and does a fair job of wind shielding. My guess on your next new bike? - the new 2022 Honda CB500X…
really great review!! I tested it today and your review is spot on.. Is the rear seat too high for the passenger to be comfortable? One of the very few negatives was that It did not seem like its a good bike for going two up.. could you please comment on that? I could not test that as I was alone.
Beautiful bike and a GREAT review!!! For my needs: I wish it weighed less, had a seat about 1.5 to 2 inches lower, had another 1 to 1.5 gallons to the gas tank, and had better wind protection (bigger windshield and handguards).
@@RocketMan_Moto Yes. I don't understand why manufacturers can't give riders what they've been wanting for ten years! They come so close, but just keep perfection tantalizingly OUT OF OUR GRASP!
Thanx for that review. Feeling lack of engine sound, mate) Still will be looking out to purchase one in a year. I own a MT-07 and it does not have a nice tank for a longer trip.
RocketMan - thank you for this video. As I am searching for this type of bike now, would you think this bike will do for occasional long weeknd trips with Mrs and some luggage? Are there any panniers for a small Tiger?
Am considering moving from a 2019 765 RS to this - Fundamentally trading in better components and some engine numbers for comfort and practicality, while retaining the peppy triple. My riding is 100% commuting anyway. As a past owner of the 2017-19 765 RS, any thoughts?
Interesting move, but one I totally understand. If you’re only using the bike to commute, the Tiger makes a lot more sense. I basically sold my 765 because I was sick of going everywhere « at 100mph ». What you’ll lose in sex appeal, you’ll gain in comfort and practicality👍
I agree with your scores except styling I would give the trident 8 and the Tiger sport a 7 which ultimately puts the trident on top. That being said I don’t really think either one is better it depends what you want the bike for. For a weekend toy, fun sporty B road blaster = trident. For a practical but entertaining commuting, longer journey bike = tiger sport. The problem is sometimes we need/want both so unless you get both you pick your compromise.
Nice review I've been thinking of replacing my 2 bikes with one do it all bike and this is top of my list. However I have owned a Versys in the past and the screen on that was just awful and so noisy at speed I'm guessing this is the same? I think they do a bigger screen but these are normally pretty ugly. This must be an issue with this style of bike? Shame no cruise control and it seems a bit heavy and quite tall as I'm only 5 foot 9. Too tall?
I was surprised how tall the Tiger felt, but this may be because I'm used to the very low Speed Twin. You would really need to try the Tiger for yourself.
Good over all review of this good all round bike 🏍👍🏻,,, & envious of the weather there 🙁,,, ps Nice jacket 🧥 with the Petina look any heads up to what it is ⁉️cheers mark 👍🏻 All the best from Blighty 🇬🇧🍺👍🏻
Another great review. I have two bikes, a KLR which has little power and is primitive and a Street Triple which is well mannered and tons of power, but wouldn't mind something in-between. I'll just have to wait for the off-road version of the Tiger to become available and lets hope they have cruise control as an option :)
Thanks for another entertaining and informative review. I would be very keen to park one in my garage, however as Triumph Australia has decided to supply us with a learner edition only, meaning engine stiffled to 44hp, I will give it a miss, quite disappointing really.
Cheers mate! Another bang on review with respect to what I’d like to know, delivered with aplomb. I did get the red though 😁; can’t be too similar to my buddy’s GSXR-S CC (color wise at least). Ta…
Another excellent review! you hit on the things that matter to real buyers/riders. I kept thinking that it sounds like Suzuki VStrom 650 with a Triumph triple and modern electronics. Hmmm…
Looking at the Triumph lineup with cool nakeds, retro styled and adventure bikes it was obvious it has a gap for a all-rounder. Well it was obvious but I am still a bit surprised that Triump decided to design this bike. Good job 👍
I agree with you this Tiger is actually really rather nice as far as adv GT bikes go. A lovely shade of blue as well, the same as on my Sprint ST1050. Maybe Triumph are starting to respond to the howls of derision over their recent moribund paint schemes for their new bikes. Shame Triumph couldn't have continued this nice blue onto the fairing of the rear subframe rather than reverting to depressing grey/black plastic. Nice to see Triumph have spec'd it with Michelin Road 5s. Good tyres. Agree with you on the dash, that is if we could see it for the reflections, agree the lines and circles make it look rather 1980s. I'm hoping you'll be able to get your hands on the new Tiger 1200 to ride and review but realise it would probably not be a bike you would buy. You are in the best possible way fast turning into a rather likeable curmudgeon. BTw like your brown leather jacket from the sleeve which I caught a glimpse of in the mirror a few times whilst you were riding. Do you do product reviews? Might be worth reviewing or naming your jacket with an affiliate link ;@). Are there any fixer upper properties left on the Algarve at very low prices? Have been looking at some in what look like abandoned villages in other more remote parts of Portugal. Don't know if they are a good idea or just sinking ones money into a deep black hole? Thanks for another entertaining review. ATB.
Thanks, Alex. Tiger 1200 will be coming as soon as Daniel gets his demonstrator. Jacket is a Furygan Coburn. Nice idea, but I don't really getting into all this affiliate and sponsorship stuff. Property is expensive down here, but you can pick up some bargains if you're prepared to move, say, 20-30km inland, away from the popular areas by the coast.
@@RocketMan_Moto Many thanks for your reply and answers. Furygan - French brand. Thanks for the tip on property. I think this is the last winter I'll suffer in the UK. It's just too bloody cold and miserable in the UK during the summer and to have the same again in winter is just depressing. Been saying it for years, should have left before the Brexit fiasco but we are where we are. The thought of proper hot long summers is intoxicating. I'm used to the heat living in South of France for 3 years and then Australia for 2. Many thanks again.
The dreary weather both in the UK and the north of France, where I lived for 30 years, was what pushed me to come down here. There are downsides, of course, but the climate is lovely. As you say, the months of interminable grey skies up north are just too depressing.
@@RocketMan_Moto Heavy leaden low cloud and unremitting cold and damp although today here in the East it has been clear blue skies with lots of sunshine for the most part. Cold though. How do you manage with day to day communication, I mean in terms of speaking Portuguese? It's a famously difficult language to learn and master or maybe you are fluent? Or maybe everyone speaks English? Interested to know.
In India, tiger 660 is priced almost similar to Honda cbr 650r & Suzuki vstorm 650. I know honda is kinda sport but still what would you choose if you have these 3 options ?
On the cruise control , I completely agree. If a bike is "throttle by wire" (which I'm sure a real lot of bikes are these days. My former 2018 Street Triple S 660 was, and my Speed Twin is), I don't see how offering cruise control is that complicated. Throttle by wire already has the electro servo mechanism opening the air intake flap, and they're all electronic fuel injection these days. Cruise control is just a couple of buttons wired into the ECU ( like it is on my Speed Triple ) and a tiny bit of computer programming. My Speed Twin should have cruise control. I really like it on my Speed Triple. It's useful for keeping to 30 and 40 MPH limits !
@@RocketMan_Moto Yeah probably. The Tiger 850 I think has the awful T plane crank like the Tiger 900. I really don't see the point of making a smooth triple like a twin.
@@RocketMan_Moto It's not that I dislike twins, I've got one ! But why make a triple like a twin ? I've heard the twaddle Triumph came out with, but I don't buy it. If the Tiger 900 or 850 had a 120 degree Triple, and a 17 inch front wheel, I could be interested . As it is, I'm not.

Once again, great analysis. I don't like adv bikes...never did, but, as you say, the looks on this being better than the trident really touch a string in my heart. Again not really for my usecase and dailly scenario (99% comute) but nonetheless a very nice option if I start doing some weekend "outandabouts". My final list for now is the z650rs new, or the Z900Rs / speed twin second hand. But first, FED in USA has to get their act together because I am loosing too much money on the stock exchange, instead of winning :D.
A preowned Speed Twin will provide a lot more thrills than either the Trident or the Tiger 660 :)

@@RocketMan_Moto true...but a 1200 to 99% ride in Lisbon still makes no sense to me... even the z900Rs seems a little too much... :/ and I am no hooligan to get me thrilled on a motorcycle that way... well maybe a little bit :D
Love that colour. Once again very watchable review thank you. Could I use your channel to raise a point RM, with regard to screens, I don't know if you mean buffeting from a noise point of veiw (ear plugs usually negate this, do you wear them), or physically as in a head wobble?
Thanks, Graham. I was referring to the buffeting, but you're right that I should have been less ambiguous. I agree earplugs are the way to go for less noise :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Thanks, I get questions about the screen on my bike, but the answer will only be relevant if the person asking wears ear plugs as I do. Some screens create head movement bit not necessarily noise, if that makes sense.
Great, honest review 👍🏻 Does it still have the annoying woolly low speed throttle response of the Trident? Are the ergo’s, knee position in tank, reach to bars, better for the taller person than Trident?
Yes, I think a beginner could handle the Tiger 660. It’s not too big/tall or too powerful. Enough fun to amuse you for a couple of years while you hone your skills👍
Really enjoying your videos, honestly. Still, can‚t help but noticing that on your `board`, there are 9 Trumpets out of 25 bikes, 5 of which are at the top, and two more at 9th and 10th place. Other manufacturers deserve more reviews! :)))
I quite agree. Unfortunately, there are very few dealers down here in the Algarve, so I have to ride what I can get. Things are about to change, however, as you will discover in my next video... :)
I'm on the fence between the 660 or 850.Can you do a review on the Triumph 850.I can't figure out which one to get.I like the water clearance on the 850 for the exhaust for flooded streets.
Hey Rocket! I'm going to the Algarve now in April 2022. I'll rent a bike from Soulful-bikes. I wish you had a video with some tips about the best motorcycle routes and places to go in the Algarve🙂
Two areas I would recommend: around the town of Monchique to the west, and the N2 road north of Sao Bras. But Soulful will be happy to show you some good routes. Please tell them you have seen my videos. Have a great holiday :)
Being a new bike there is no discount available so that's about £8,400ish I think. The Tracer can be had for just over £7,000, that may make a difference in comparison to somebody considering the Tiger 660 or the CB500X
@@RocketMan_Moto I actually bought a used Tracer 7 yesterday with loads of accessories for under £6k with only 3600 miles. It's not my main bike so I really couldn't justify the £10k+ that the Tiger would have cost once specc'd up. I though that will do me for a year or two until deals are available on the Tiger 660. Each to their own though. You live in a great county, I love Portugal.
I’m interested in CB500X and this one. Saw both your videos. Nice ones. Few questions if you can throw some light between them- 1. How’s the wind screen of Honda compared to the Tiger 660? 2. In CB500X u mentioned that there is vibrations above 110kmph. Can u say at what RPM? What about the Tiger? 3. Is comfort on Tiger better than 500X coz I feel the Honda s seat is bit bigger for both rider and pillion.
The Honda is much less powerful, but more comfortable and the windscreen is better. Vibration is present on both bikes, but in about equal measure. The Tiger is possibly a little better. Hope this helps :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Thank you. I’m bit of Honda fan. Plus I suppose Honda will have lower maintenance cost. I’m 90% city commuter. And 6ft tall, so searching for a tall bike with comfortable ergonomics n overall riding comfort. I prefer to ride max upto 80-90kmph on highways
Always the same problem with the air protection; why manufacturers don't offer different types of windshield for different riders heights? I remove the oem from the cb500x and installed a small one just to protect my chest and allowing my head to stay in clean air flow.
What pads did you say you picked up for the Trident? Any other mods you can think of that you didn't mention in your videos for that bike? Love your videos btw, so much great info in a wonderful package :-)
Thank you, Cameryn. I replace the standard pads on most of my bikes with the appropriate sintered pads from EBC. They improve the initial bite considerably.
Nice review ..... the 660 Tiger does nowt for me though, the 850 Tiger is just under £1000 more expensive but offers much better engine performance (ample for 2 up touring), lower seat height (in both of it's settings), far far better brakes, better wind protection, not a lot more weight and more of a nod to light off roading with the 19 inch front wheel.
I'm tempted but I'm finding it hard to steer away from the 2022 Versys 650. For reliable touring I just don't have the confidence to trust a Triumph to make a ~4k tour of Europe without an issue. Throughout the whole of the marketing release for the 660 Triumph don't claim it to be reliable as a selling point, that's a worry for me.
@Space Cowboy I'd 'stick' with the Versys if it was me to be honest. Not saying the Triumph is unreliable, but the Versys has a proven track record of being 'bulletproof'. I think you should also consider the dealer support near where you live and their reputation for both bikes. Oh, and I'd never buy a bike that I thought "I just don't have the confidence to trust a Triumph to make a ~4k tour of Europe" I did over 3.5k miles touring Spain in 2018/2019 I never once thought my 35 year old Honda 500 would have any reliability problems...and it never did! If I was taller I'd buy a Versys 650 tomorrow. :-)
@@paullee6663 Agreed. I like touring Scandinavia and I'd rather break down on a Kawasaki than a Triumph somewhere in the middle of Sweden. Plus the stories of the aftercare regarding Bonneville owners is putting me right off owning a Triumph for anything but UK riding.
@@S.p.a.c.e.C.o.w.b.o.y If you are touring Scandinavia and other parts of Europe the Kawasaki is the better choice (IMHO) The dealer support (outside of the South East) is not great even in the UK. To be honest I very much doubt you will be troubling the 'breakdown service' for many years with a brand new Kawasaki 650 Versys. :-)
As is fairly common amongst moto journalism your understanding of preload, compression and rebound could do with a bit of a tune up. Preload changes ‘sag’ and ‘ride height’ so ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ are really misnomers - similarly ‘comp’ and ‘rebound’ are more exactly referred to as ‘slow’ and ‘fast’ - take a look at a good book like ‘sport bike suspension tuning’ by Trevitt for a more accurate understanding. I do like your vids and enjoy your thoughts - best
@@RocketMan_Moto Just had a chat with Daniel. He's as great as previous times. We talked about your review of the new Tiger 660. I might order one of them by the end of the month. Most probably the Trident as I could flat foot it and the tiger I can't.
Having owned the F900XR, I would definitely take the Tiger over it now. I was lured into the F900 by the brand image and all the gadgets, but it was a pretty dull bike to ride. That Loncin motor is just too linear. The Tiger is more fun.
@@RocketMan_Moto thank you for your reply. I am thinking of buying a brand new tiger, or a slightly used bmw. 🤔 Anyway, safe rides 🚀man. Just subscribed. 😉
Just noticed your channel. Great review. I'm a bit of a Triumph fan boy too. P.s. preload adjustment only affects ride height and sag, not spring stiffness. 😉
Curious to know your opinion on this VS a F750GS. The BMW is about 1k€ more in Portugal and if both bikes are fully optioned the difference goes to around 3k. Could a lightly optioned GS be "great value" vs a fully loaded Tiger? All the best.

I'm beginning to think that the Trident 660 would be perfect for Thailand: tractable, fast enough, light, good handling. Trouble is I prefer twins. What do you think of the Street Twin, RM? I am 1.85 and 87 kg, so about the same size as you. Maybe the seat height is a touch low, but I like the sound of peak torque coming in at 3,000 rpm. The usual first-class review.
Thanks :) I find the Street Twin a little lacking in power - at least compared to the Speed Twin - but, as you say, the big torque low down does compensate for this. The Trident is 'good enough', but that's also why I sold it - it's only 'good enough' and I wanted a bit more excitement. My friend still has his, though, and loves it, although he did intimate to me last night that he was thinking of upgrading. Don't know what to, lol.
@@RocketMan_Moto Maybe I should splash out on a Speed Twin. 12,700 GBP in Thailand, though. The Trident 660 is only 7,100 GBP. That is some difference. The 660 makes sense.

Thanks, Denis. Still haven't decided what to do for RocketWife, but her using the car and me getting a second bike is looking ever more likely - a win-win :)
The tiger can add the luggage at a later date for a much more reasonable price than the tracer 7, so you can sneak that expenditure past the wife easier. It looks better too.
I would disagree: 99% of bikes to me are too noisy and I'm looking forward to when silent (electric) machines are the norm. There are only a handful of bikes around at the moment, normally those with large engines, that make a decent sound. 125s are the absolute worst, lol :)
Can you tell me someone if bike good enough for long trips in Europe??I have currently Honda 125R and want next bike Triumph 660 my tall 176cm.Not sure if may be take Triumph 850 or Tracer 7....Thanks for any advice
Hi, Andy. I would be perfectly happy touring on the Tiger 660. It's powerful enough, especially if you're coming from a 125, and offers good levels of comfort and luggage carrying ability. I personally would choose it over the Tracer 7, because the quality is higher.

@@36moto Thank you for the info and your experience with the test ride. The seat height is listed as 835mm (nearly 33") So, I can only think the rear shock compresses quite a bit. There's a new dealership opened not far from me, I may well go and have a look. You thinking of buying one after your test ride?
@@paullee6663 yep it felt fine to me, cheers
It looks as if Triumph have done a great job with the bike...I have to agree it does look great in blue. Good to see Michelin Road5s fitted as standard. The lack of a centre stand is a bit disappointing mind you especially for a bike that's being touted as a potential tourer. Great review and thanks for posting.
Thank you, Alan. Oh yes, I forgot to mention the centre stand - another oversight by Triumph :( It will still sell though.
Excellent review. It amazes me how you seem to get the newer triumph's ahead of the UK you tubers. Thank you
Apparently dealers in Spain & Portugal get the bikes before anyone else. Not sure why but it works for me😀
Johnny Ive is back with a bang!
Lol, heard that one before😊
Thanks for the nicely balanced review.
Thanks, Sheldon. I'm the same height as you and found the Tiger easily big/comfortable enough for me, although I do tend to prefer small bikes.
It does make me smile when they make these 'smaller cc' bikes so heavy. All those extra 'safety and emission features' no doubt!!! Good review.
Thanks. I agree 200kg is a lot - half of it probably goes on the cat', as you say :(
In this case it's the steel frame instead of aluminum.
I've been waiting for this video for weeks !!!!!
Hope you enjoyed 😊
First time I see honest review!!!!!Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative and logical. I am now firmly set on Tracer, thank you.
Enjoy :)
I think it should sell pretty well. Adding a deflector on a screen that is too low should not interfere with your eye line anymore than a higher windscreen, plus the deflector also offers a greater range of adjustment.
True. It will definitely sell and it deserves to👍
Nice video and thanks for all of you honest reviews. It'd be great if you could do a couple vids riding the test bikes in the twisties (cornering/braking/couple downshifts) instead of just "cruising" around. Portugal has lots of nice roads!
You’re quite right. Unfortunately, dealers won’t give me the bike for long enough for me to ride up to more exciting roads.
Ah, nice, had a quick search for this today to see if u uploaded
Thanks for your support, Darren😊
Great review. I certainly agree with your perspective on the windscreen. I’d rather not have one, if the wind (and elements) are directed to my helmet. It certainly is a beautiful bike. Thanks for sharing. Be safe and take care my friend.
Thanks, Willy :)
@@RocketMan_Moto I suppose CB500X has a reachable seat height for pillion.
love the bike less room for a pillon all the better if it means the misses aint getting on it and ruin my fun plus i take all reviews with a pintch of salt as you have to test it for yourself to get a feel for it and if its the right bike for you
Really enjoy your videos and unbiased reviews. Love the subtle dry humour and your comment about the new seat material “offering as much grip as the condom” made me laugh out loud. 😆👍🏼
Thanks, glad you enjoy the videos :)
Hey mate just found your channel. I like your reviews, not the most entertaining but you tell me what I want to know. I am very fussy and I appreciate the honesty.
Thanks, glad you enjoy the reviews :)
This bike is a winner! Seat height is less than Versys 650. Many features better the Versys 650, which I believe is it main competitor.
They will sell many
Hi there!
Very good video as always.
You thank about the CB500X a lot but the real competitor from Honda is the NC750x.
I got one. 😁
Try to test ride one NC and then compere to the tuger 660.
Many thanks
I would test more bikes if only the dealers were more dynamic😊
I’ve considered the nc750x 2022, my only concern is the single front disc?
@@kelljah it does it job perfect.
If you ride normaly and in sport mode is more than enought.
Only if you try to be Marc Marquez in public road you will fill the diferent.
I agree that a single disc is usually enough, but it just smacks of penny-pinching to me. I will always prefer the feel of 'too much' stopping power.
Thank you for another brilliant review
Thank you, Martin :)
I saw and sat on one at my local dealer back in December. A really nice bike, but I think I'll be keeping my Trident.
I don’t think it’s worth ‘upgrading’ from a Trident
I would like to see what you think of the new Ducati monster 950. But i have no idé what kind of bikes you can get your hands on.
Thx for the very informative first thoughts.
Thanks, Thomas. The closest Ducati dealers are in Lisbon and Seville, both about 2.5 hours drive away, unfortunately :(
@@RocketMan_Moto Okej, sorry to hear that. well well, keep up the god work!
Thanks :)
Honest and insightful review.
Thanks😊
You make a good point on seat heat having just tested one . Could be an issue for many shorter riders.
Yes, surprisingly tall
I don’t have any use for a cruise control on the Algarve roads, but I totally understand that for many people it’s a deal-breaker
The prettiest roads I have found around here are the N2 and the mountain roads near Monchique
I've heard the MRA screens are good. The new CB500X definitely is tempting... ;)
really great review!! I tested it today and your review is spot on.. Is the rear seat too high for the passenger to be comfortable? One of the very few negatives was that It did not seem like its a good bike for going two up.. could you please comment on that? I could not test that as I was alone.
I haven't tested it with a passenger, but going on my experience with the Trident, I'd say there are better bikes out there for two-up riding
Beautiful bike and a GREAT review!!! For my needs: I wish it weighed less, had a seat about 1.5 to 2 inches lower, had another 1 to 1.5 gallons to the gas tank, and had better wind protection (bigger windshield and handguards).
Thank you. I agree, especially re. the height. I was surprised by how high the seat felt.
@@RocketMan_Moto Yes. I don't understand why manufacturers can't give riders what they've been wanting for ten years! They come so close, but just keep perfection tantalizingly OUT OF OUR GRASP!
True!
Yep - seat height will put many shorter riders off -real shame when it ticks most boxes
You can get a lower seat or get it lowered snd in a 660 cc range you wont get a lighter weight bike
Thanx for that review. Feeling lack of engine sound, mate) Still will be looking out to purchase one in a year. I own a MT-07 and it does not have a nice tank for a longer trip.
Exactly the same sound as the Trident👍
RocketMan - thank you for this video. As I am searching for this type of bike now, would you think this bike will do for occasional long weeknd trips with Mrs and some luggage? Are there any panniers for a small Tiger?
I think it would be a great bike for what you describe. Yes, Triumph offer panniers for this Tiger.
Agreed👍😊
Good over all review of this good all round bike 🏍👍🏻,,, & envious of the weather there 🙁,,, ps
Nice jacket 🧥 with the Petina look any heads up to what it is ⁉️cheers mark 👍🏻
All the best from Blighty 🇬🇧🍺👍🏻
Thanks! The jacket is a Furygan Coburn :)
Another great review. I have two bikes, a KLR which has little power and is primitive and a Street Triple which is well mannered and tons of power, but wouldn't mind something in-between. I'll just have to wait for the off-road version of the Tiger to become available and lets hope they have cruise control as an option :)
Thanks, Daniel. We may get an off-road version one day, but I doubt it will get cruise control. Let’s hope I’m wrong😬
Thanks for another entertaining and informative review. I would be very keen to park one in my garage, however as Triumph Australia has decided to supply us with a learner edition only, meaning engine stiffled to 44hp, I will give it a miss, quite disappointing really.
I believe you also only get the restricted version of the Trident, too? Very strange decision…😟
Correct, Triumph Australia need a good talking too!
I'd love to hear their reasoning. I believe it's the only market in the world where they don't sell both versions.
New Zealand is the same only the restricted versions
Cheers mate! Another bang on review with respect to what I’d like to know, delivered with aplomb. I did get the red though 😁; can’t be too similar to my buddy’s GSXR-S CC (color wise at least). Ta…
Glad you enjoyed it :)
I have a grey tiger 660, and I have long legs and can flat foot. I gave it 10/ 10. Like you honesty
Lovely bike. Ride safe😊
Another excellent review! you hit on the things that matter to real buyers/riders. I kept thinking that it sounds like Suzuki VStrom 650 with a Triumph triple and modern electronics. Hmmm…
Thank you :)
Looking at the Triumph lineup with cool nakeds, retro styled and adventure bikes it was obvious it has a gap for a all-rounder. Well it was obvious but I am still a bit surprised that Triump decided to design this bike. Good job 👍
A Tiger 660 adv bike could be interesting
I found the 650R a bit bland. The Tiger/Trident has a more exciting engine. I don’t generally like the finish on Suzukis
I guess they just want you to upgrade to the Tiger 850. VW refuse to offer a sunroof on the Polo for the same reason...
@@RocketMan_Moto Yeah probably. The Tiger 850 I think has the awful T plane crank like the Tiger 900. I really don't see the point of making a smooth triple like a twin.
Agreed, the Tigers are to vibey😩
When we lived in Cascais, I had a CB500X and a f900xr. I’m not sure the Speed Twin would have worked so well there.
Yes, I get what you mean. And I agree.
What"s the MPG for this bike please?
Very relevant for a "GT" or daily use bike IMO.
Thank you for your (otherwise) very comprehensive reviews.
Thanks. You’re right, fuel consumption was something I forgot to mention, but as I only had the bike for a few hours, I didn’t measure it😬
Another great review, Rocket. Many thanks. I like the Tiger but my local dealer hasn't one in stock yet. Would I fit on it? I'm 6' 3" and 18st.
More than likely
I'm only 6'1" and there's plenty of room for me. My Speed Twin did feel cramped when I got back on for the ride home.
Great, honest review 👍🏻 Does it still have the annoying woolly low speed throttle response of the Trident? Are the ergo’s, knee position in tank, reach to bars, better for the taller person than Trident?
Same throttle, yes. Better for a taller rider, definitely.
@@RocketMan_Moto Wonder if that can be mapped out, really don't like it. Also keen to see if they release a 660 XC to rival the Tenere 700.
I bet they do, but I doubt we’ll see it this year
So long as its blue and sunny lol. Its always sunny here in good old blighty!!!!
Excellent consumer advice from RM😂
Beautiful bike!! Do you think it is beginner friendly? Thanx 👍

Yes, an odd choice
great review, i appreciate your thoughts. the only decision left is color.
Thanks. Has to be the blue :)
@@RocketMan_Moto ha! well, i do have an electric blue truck...
Matching bike and truck!! :)
Being a new bike there is no discount available so that's about £8,400ish I think. The Tracer can be had for just over £7,000, that may make a difference in comparison to somebody considering the Tiger 660 or the CB500X
Good point, although here in Portugal it's almost impossible to get any sort of meaningful discount on bikes.
Sound as if you’ve got yourself a great deal👍
I’m interested in CB500X and this one. Saw both your videos. Nice ones. Few questions if you can throw some light between them-
The CB500X is better in town, but lacks power for the motorway
Interesting that you tried a yamaha tmax at some point. I saw it on your scoring table. Did you do video review for that?
No video, I didn’t have my camera on me🤦♂️
Always the same problem with the air protection; why manufacturers don't offer different types of windshield for different riders heights? I remove the oem from the cb500x and installed a small one just to protect my chest and allowing my head to stay in clean air flow.
Different screen sizes from the factory would be a great, and relatively inexpensive option to have
Hello enjoy your reviews, would you take this over BMW F750 GS
Thanks, Bobby. I haven’t tried the 750GS, but I have tried the 850 and used to own a F900XR. I think I’d take the Tiger 660, yes👍

Can't disagree with that
I'm tempted but I'm finding it hard to steer away from the 2022 Versys 650. For reliable touring I just don't have the confidence to trust a Triumph to make a ~4k tour of Europe without an issue. Throughout the whole of the marketing release for the 660 Triumph don't claim it to be reliable as a selling point, that's a worry for me.
I've owned half a dozen Triumphs and never had a problem, but I agree that Japanese bikes are hard to beat in terms of reliability.
Done 6500 miles on the 660. No issues.
@Space Cowboy I'd 'stick' with the Versys if it was me to be honest. Not saying the Triumph is unreliable, but the Versys has a proven track record of being 'bulletproof'. I think you should also consider the dealer support near where you live and their reputation for both bikes. Oh, and I'd never buy a bike that I thought
"I just don't have the confidence to trust a Triumph to make a ~4k tour of Europe"
I did over 3.5k miles touring Spain in 2018/2019 I never once thought my 35 year old Honda 500 would have any reliability problems...and it never did!
Thanks for the heads-up😊👍
Would it work for a beginner?
Great review! Can't wait to see it for.my.self.in a few days at Triumph Algarve.
A great beginner's bike, if you're comfortable on a taller bike. Please tell Daniel you saw my review - it will encourage him to lend me more bikes ;)
@@RocketMan_Moto I will!
Let me know how you get on👍
@@RocketMan_Moto Just had a chat with Daniel. He's as great as previous times. We talked about your review of the new Tiger 660. I might order one of them by the end of the month. Most probably the Trident as I could flat foot it and the tiger I can't.
That Tiger 660 does look nice. I like that it's capable of some ADV riding, although more on the road side of the ADV mission.
It is a very nice bike, and one that I would now choose over the Trident, if only for the extra leg room :)
Would you buy this over the f900xr?
Which is more comfortable for the driver and the pillion?
Does the bmw worth the extra money?
Having owned the F900XR, I would definitely take the Tiger over it now. I was lured into the F900 by the brand image and all the gadgets, but it was a pretty dull bike to ride. That Loncin motor is just too linear. The Tiger is more fun.
@@RocketMan_Moto thank you for your reply.
I am thinking of buying a brand new tiger, or a slightly used bmw. 🤔
Anyway, safe rides 🚀man.
Just subscribed. 😉
Thanks for the sub😊
Just noticed your channel. Great review. I'm a bit of a Triumph fan boy too.
P.s. preload adjustment only affects ride height and sag, not spring stiffness. 😉
I stand corrected. Thanks, Bob :)
@@RocketMan_Moto 🙏
Curious to know your opinion on this VS a F750GS. The BMW is about 1k€ more in Portugal and if both bikes are fully optioned the difference goes to around 3k.
Could a lightly optioned GS be "great value" vs a fully loaded Tiger?
All the best.
It's a personal choice, of course, but having owned (and quickly sold) a BMW F900XR, I would definitely go for the Tiger now.
@@RocketMan_Moto i own a f750gs, and must say its a fantastic bike to ride, i got a xr900 while my bike was in getting serviced, and boy was i disappointed, although in fairness, i think it looks better than mine, 👍👍
Another good review.
Thanks😊
Hey nice video thanks thinking of getting this bike, I have lived in the Algarve for 20 years are you a member of any rider groups ??
Yes, ASB and MC Portimao
@@RocketMan_Moto Thanks yes I am a member of ASB, but have yet to get out with you guys
Welcome anytime😊
Thanks for the video! How would you rate tiger 660 against nc750x?
Edit: never mind, I got to the end of the video and noticed the table haha.
The Tiger is much sportier than the placid NC750X
I agree it does make sense… but the Speed Twin is just so nice. It felt like a V8 after the Tiger😬
@@RocketMan_Moto Yep. I want one for my blasts to the Mekong. In Portugal, I have, amongst other bikes, a Buell Ulysses. You'd enjoy its torque.
Nice😎
Hi RM.
Great review as always. Totally unrelated, what did you get for your wife in the end? It was funny watching the recommendations. 10 would say X is crap and another 10 would say the same X is the dogs B. You may have already mentioned, but I blame my grey hair if so!
Den
Thanks, Denis. Still haven't decided what to do for RocketWife, but her using the car and me getting a second bike is looking ever more likely - a win-win :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Rocketwife 😂 how does she like being referred to as that?
I didn't know he was selling his wife ?
She's Brazilian and, quite rightly, doesn't watch my videos :)
I'm sure she'd fetch a good price :)
The tiger can add the luggage at a later date for a much more reasonable price than the tracer 7, so you can sneak that expenditure past the wife easier. It looks better too.
Lol, true :)
As always, thanx for another great review. If I were in the market for new bike, I´d always look here first. But I´m not...so I won´t. :D
Well, at least you watched. Thank you😊
@@RocketMan_Moto well, watch your Videos is a must...If one wants to be in the market for a Bike sooner or later 😜
It’s only after watching this, otherwise interesting review, that I realised that 30-40%+ of what you love about a bike, is the sound that it makes
I would disagree: 99% of bikes to me are too noisy and I'm looking forward to when silent (electric) machines are the norm. There are only a handful of bikes around at the moment, normally those with large engines, that make a decent sound. 125s are the absolute worst, lol :)
@@RocketMan_Moto 😅 have to say though, if the sound is awful it’s equally important to know
True enough
So is the engine tuning the same as Trident? You mention low down torque? For just riding around for fun the Trident is more fun?
Exactly the same
I think you have the same complaint with Triumph's triples that I have ... they all seem to buzz despite claims of smoothness.
Tbh, this was the first Triumph I've felt vibrations with
They gargle
Hey RocketMan why the speed twin get an 8 in styling and the Bonneville a 6?
More modern components give the Speed Twin a sportier appearance. It’s all subjective😊
Wondering how would the SWM Superdual X would compare...
No dealers here
Hi!
Can please give a good review on Suzuki V-Strom 650 2022
I'll try to get hold of one
My favorite color is red but I saw the blue irl and it looks beautiful
The red is nice, but I don't like the decals that come with it
What do you think about Tracer 7 comparing to TTS660? Which one you still to choose?
The Tracer has been updated for 2023, so I'd probably go for that now. The Trident is very good, though...
I hope that spring comes soon to Czech Republic from Algarve :)
Hang on, it will arrive up there very soon :)
What about the Kawasaki ninja 1000SX? :-)
Hi RM.
Have you come across the MAN Journals. He has a garage to die for and I suspect shares some similar tastes to you. Would recommend a look. Only 1k or so subscribers which is staggering considering how good the content is. It is like he is having a conversation with himwhich is good.
Regards
Den
I’ll have a look. Thanks, Denis👍
I'd like to know how this bike compares to the V-strom 650.
Always difficult to get Suzukis down here - no good dealers :(
Hi, would this be a good bike for a 6.2 tall (188 cm) and 275 pounds (125 Kg) heavy rider?
I think the height/space is ok, but you’d need to dial up the compression a bit on the rear. Should be ok, though👍
@@RocketMan_Moto thanks
Nice weather 😁🌴👍
Spring’s here😊
Triumph Tiger 660 > Yamaha Tenere 700? Are you nuts?
It's just my opinion, I'm not asking for blanket agreement
