Awesome build and video brother! Those kids are blessed to have a dad like you. I'm sure they love it, and it can also serve as an indoor treehouse, lookout tower, army base, etc. you know?! I'm 41 and would climb up there in a second with a plastic M-16 if my cousins were visiting and a battle broke out....lol them days! We never grow up at heart. Thanks and God bless u my friend.
Yay! Just the inspiration I was looking for. New to woodworking and I’m determined to build a loft for my daughters small room. (Single mama so I’ll be doing it on my own!) will credit you when I post the video!
Hello ! Any news on how it went ? I'm new to woodworking too and I'm planning to make this for my room but I'm kind of scared of failing haha Was it easy to do ?
@@jagdishchandrajoshi915 Haven't done that yet since I'm lacking the materials necessary for it, but I used games like the Sims to see how it'll look like in my room and I can't wait to make it whenever I can.
The only thing I'd be wary about. All the framing you're doing you're putting a single screw in every where timber meets timber. No double-screwing or glue-and-screw or joins of any sort. So you're relying on the shear-strength of single screws in some places where you'd REALLY want to make sure nothing breaks loose (like the step ladder). As taking the whole platform apart isn't feasible this is what I'd do. For those cross-braces on the platform itself, go back in and put an additional screw on each side. For the step ladder, just to be REALLY safe, pull it down. get yourself a bottle of decent construction adhesive or at least wood glue. Pull each step out one at a time. Dab the ends with glue and double-screw them back into the stringer. Then remount the step ladder (again, glue and double-screw). Sure, it'll cost you a little extra in materials, but it'll result in a MUCH more durable (and safer) project in the end. Also, OSB isn't exactly the greatest material to walk (or crawl) on. And you can get splinters. Consider half-inch sanded plywood instead or overlay it with some cheap hardboard panels for a nice smooth surface. Or you could just go with cheap rugs and stuff.
I personally don't think glue will help in anyway, I mean, I built a shelf by just using screws and nails to hold the woods together, I can put 8 tires on the shelf and the shelf will not collapse. I sometimes don't really get why people would put glue on woods....
altpath My college construction instructor didn't say that. His name is Larry (I forgot his last name), go ahead ask him whether he is experienced or not.
I got the wood from build yard, but it was not pre-cut. I think you would need the saw to cut them to your preferred size. Or you could ask to get them cut at B&Q. They do cuts for a small fee.
I thank you so much i wanted to do this to my kids room but didn't know how to do it your step by step will help me a lot ill save this an give you a update on how mines look. Very nice btw
i want to do something like this with a queen bed. but when i do i am going to use 4by4 post and group 8 bolts for my legs then i can take 2x6 and do it all right for $300 usd. it will be safe up to 8800 lbs. with a stairs and all. love to do a video if i do it. if i can find the money.
@@V4p3rcl0ud Hell, at that point, might as well start pouring some concrete with rebar and solid steel support beams. If a loft can't support the weight of a couple fully loaded semi trucks, then what's the point?

First of all nice video, second of all how much time did it require to build the loft bed? Just for personal references I want to do a cost calculation between do it yourself labour per hour and buying a finished product.
Nice. If you preferred you could just counter sink the horizontal lumber and screwed into the wall studs with 3" screws. instead of the short support boards.
The bed has been up over 18 months now in daily use by teenagers and sometimes adults when guests stay overnight - and so far it's perfectly fine with no squeaking, shaking or any other safety concerns experienced. So I am sure it will hold 220lb or more but of course I can't give any guarantees in any case.
I have disassembled mine after 2 years of use as kids sleeping preference changed. Now it's a single size loft area. Measurements were just wall to wall according to room size and your preferred width.
Aaahhhhhh the good old days when you could buy timber without having to take out a loan 🤣 28 lengths in 2022 would be the cost of a second hand car, let alone the OSB 😭😔
I have been asked to share a list of all used material for the bed. Please see at the end of the video at 4:20 there is a list of used material available. You can pause the video and write down or take a picture of it. For my main tools I have used a circular saw and a good quality cordless drill. You can see short videos of unboxing those tools by clicking these links: Cordless combi dril: ua-cam.com/video/Sn4FNhjtv2M/v-deo.html Compound mitre saw: ua-cam.com/video/4sQYx4EvWoc/v-deo.html
at approx 1.00 have you seriously cut the wood while its against the wall :-/ also i would have probably spent a few more quid for some decent ply and not osb.

Thank u so much this is perfect for my old bunk bed

Benjamin Cheng wood glue is stronger than nails or screws. any experienced wood worker will tell you that.

Benjamiin Cheng I guess for aesthetics or lazyness maybe idk
Could even make it taller for the "adult sized kids" in your life. Great 💡!!!!! Love it!!!!!!!

Brian Reynolds 8800lbs? You planning on a fat chick party? Hell it'd hold my Jeep with a few fat chicks IN IT. That's just plain overkill man.

In my opinion only. It is the best if you put or tell all the size of materials
I love this!
How has it held up?
Me encantó, justo lo que buscaba 🖤🤗
How did you make the legs flush with skirting board in way
So nice
How do you support the timber on the floor? Is it screwed to the floor?
Could I have in a room where there's no brick wall, but only stud partition?
Gracias por las simples ideas para mejorar un espacio interior.
This is great. How are the boards screwed to the wall? Did you attach to studs inside the wall?
Thanks. Yes they are all screwed into the studs
Good job
Thank you
Do you have any suggestion to build this kind of project, but my walls are kinda weak.. 😢
Is it possible to open the window? Every bed needs air, you should make wholes in OSB.
Yes window opens fully as it's supposed to.
so i guess the question is... how is it holding up?
i'm curious!
I wonder how it’s holding up in 2021

You've given a list of items you've used but said 28 lengths of timber, is all timber the same size? I hadn't realised
Yes all timber I used of the same size
@@geekwise you didn't read my sarcastic comment properly, I meant is all wood in the world the same size, since you haven't mentioned any sizing
My dad is going to be making me a loft and it is going to look like that
Grace Tomlinson how did it turn out

Would be nice if you gave dimensions of the wood also.

Dont laugh but I am 220 lb adult. Would this hold me? My bedroom has high ceilings but is very small.

What size of screw did you use when you fixed the six legs on the wall? and could I know each size of screws used on the respective positions?
Pretty !!!:O
that is a good bed just wondering how those legs are going to stay in place
The bars installed between legs and wall hold them in place.
This is super cool
Olivia AnnaSue Thank you
Amazing
Lol his kids room is the same size of my own room 😂
I have ceilings like this ! I want to make one like this for my room !! do you have measurements

Loft bed looks nice but sleeping next to roof😭

What dimensions would I use if my ceiling is only 7 ft tall and my mattress takes up a foot as well
It's better idea 👍
are all the wall on the side concrete? I was wondering of building my own but its impossible if the walls are chalk
Video is great but the music is so repetitive
Would this be too unstable if it wasn't drilled into the walls?
yes it would be unless you use a thicker size for the legs and then further connect the legs with slats.
geekwise True I know my old childhood bunkbed lumber was thick for legs and frame itself and had huge thick bolts
U mean an exelant job
me gusto mucho el problema en q nose q medidas utilizaste
How long did this take you
total time approximately 7 hours
Thanks
About how much would it be if i have someone to build this for me ?
No idea how much someone would charge. Best to send the video to a carpenter in your area to get a quote.
What size of timber ?
2x4
How much would u say all this cost to make?
I've spent about £100 3 years ago. Now the material prices may be a bit higher. I would estimate you can get it done for around £125
ステキ‼️
How much your expenses
good jov
Do you recall the dimensions of the room?

You didn't tell us the size of the timber:(
Was it cls studwork? 38mmx63mm ?
should have left the bed with the airflow.cause of mold
2x6's probably would have been better for the spanning portion...

Where did you buy the wood?
from a local timber warehouse
nice job
Bienvenidos aaaaaaal corral 😎🤪......

why not just build the ladder into the frame on that side? save some floor space
Also with small kids stairs are better than a ladder. I would put a rail on those stairs though.
А КАК ОКНО ОТКРЫВАЕТСЯ?
