Pool came out great! However, for pools this covered in slippery algae, you might want to consider wearing a helmet for this initial rinse phase. One good fall backwards can really mess up your life. Stay safe out there!
Commercial pool guy in CA here. I’ve been there. Great job! It’s always satisfying cleaning a green pool and seeing it crystal clear on the other side. Well done fellas!!
My husband worked in the pool industry for 40 years, acid washing pools along with computer instructions. His body is covered in basal cell carcinoma and was just told he has lung cancer. I worked at the same place and I have pulmonary fibrosis. It is a very dangerous place to work.
@@sandyhughes1520 Thanks for your contribution. I'm sorry to hear of you and your husband's health problems. That's a truly awesome pool there. Wow. Nice and deep. I absolutely HATE all these shallow pools everywhere now, and all overheated so you can't even cool off on a hot day. Give me one of these any day! Thanks guys for your beautiful restoration job! One day I dream to have a pool of my own, likely smaller but just as deep, so I can swim down and graze bottom in the cold, clear water. You did a fantastic job!
Right, big enough for the whole family on a hot southern summer day. Sad part about it is that most people can’t swim these days. Me and my siblings knew how
Fantastic work ! True story, one of my earliest childhood nightmares was of a disgusting green pool and there were terrifying creatures in it! Not going to lie, I was really creeped out by this pool when you first arrived. Your hard work produced amazing results!
A suggestion. Get the cheap dollar store dish washer gel detergent stuff and bleach and spray that all over the surface and wait. The gel mixes with the bleach so it stays on the surfaces of walls and curves. It melts algea and mildew. After it dries then pressure wash it. Guaranteed it works better than the acid you first used. Its bleach so plan accordingly with the wind so you have an escape route you don't want to block yourself in with fumes. Remember chlorine and chlorine bleach will eat through materials if they get around it enough so plan accordingly. Probably still safer than acid and cheaper as well as more effective.
Also a hot water blaster would probably saved a couple of passes. And with a rotary head unit much easier on the arms and body. Learned this as a cellarhand in large wineries. Great work and results though guys!
You need to find sodium hypochlorite, you can buy a mixer gun which mixes the chemical with soap so it becomes a foam, very fast to cover the whole pool and you just leave for 15 minutes and then rinse no heavy scrubbing needed it stays on the surface even on the sides of a pool or walls your cleaning, it will save you hours of work and with the mixing gun you will probably only use one or two barrels of chemicals and a little soap, your acid falls off the surface before it’s dissolves the dirty, great job just the time and effort not necessary, watch external cleaning videos on UA-cam in the U.K. as we are very wet here and everything turns green in winter, you will see the chemicals and gun mixer being used by all the cleaners here ✌🏽
Sodium Hypochlorite is just plain pool chlorine. It's as thin as the hydrochloric acid that they are using. In other videos where they use an X-Jet to soft wash apply the SH they add a surfactant that thickens and helps to foam up the SH so that it sticks better to increase the effectiveness during it's dwell time. This acid is a much stronger cleaner that actually dissolves or etches a little bit of the pool's gunite removing not only algae but other stains like orange, red, and yellow rust stains that SH would do nothing to. You really wouldn't want it on the surface any longer than necessary. That's why it instantly turns the surface white and then they pressure wash it off rather quickly. In some angles you can see what looks like smoke or steam from the acid giving of gas as it etches the surface. Cheers!
I see a lot of comments that say do it this way or that way is faster but wouldn’t you want someone to take their time so you can get the best outcome instead of doing everything fast Great job to the man cleaning this pool
When was this pool built? Looks like something from the 70’s. I don’t think they build them like this anymore. Quite a large pool. Beautiful shape. That was a LOT of work!
I agree, a surface cleaner is definitely a time saver. I used one to clean my 400-foot driveway in just a couple of hours. It also provides a more even cleaning job.
Watching the chemical reaction from the acid hitting the algae was awesome to see. The two of you knocking it out in a couple of days is some boss type work. 🫡
Everything was so relaxing: you have an amazing soothing deep voice, your speechless teamwork brings very calming strength, and raw watersounds or music are perfect! I have to mention that the yellow t-shirt + camo workpants + black rubber boots (and blue gloves!) suits you both very well...
I used to acid wash and paint pools decades ago but never with a power washer. That was excellent, and makes me miss those days but I don't miss the acid fumes. Do you use soda ash in the end to neutralize the plaster? I used to. Also the waste water was always a concern flowing down the street. Hey I was young and there weren't many restrictions back them. I am sure I cleaned a lot of car tires in the neighborhood - or damaged them. Who knows?
Wow... you guys did an awesome job. Those corrosive chemicals you needed to use are terrible, though. Do you need to reclaim and treat that waste water and chemical treatment?
Easily reaching 10:1 dilution with all of the pressure washer discharge. Plus, it was diluted in the big grey drum before they used it in the watering can.
For future reference, you always want your pump pushing uphill rather than sucking from up high. So the gasoline powered pump should have been down in the pool with you for best performance.
I'm not knocking your video AT ALL...especially for those viewers who enjoyed it!!! I was a pool contractor in Florida, by the Gulf of Mexico, and this video is "part" of my story regarding pool care....especially after hurricanes!!! In Florida we would come up with the occasional alligator or water snake as well!!!
Great work! However my only concern is why don't you guys invest in a pressure washer surface cleaner to quicken the process of getting all that green build up off the pool floor
Im so intrigued! What chemical did you use?? Ive never seen something come so clean that easily, what reaction did it have? Did it heat up or was it water vapor, did it react to the algae stains etc?
You should get a dirt eater tip for your pressure washer. It spins and cleans alot faster. I used to use them for cleaning crab pots.I think I got mine from tractor supply or grainger.
What a great job you guys did here! The pool was both enormous and thoroughly disgusting!.....It looked as if nothing could ever restore it and one wonders how those in charge allowed it to get into that state. Well done and I enjoyed watching its restoration!
Wow what a great job. Very fun to watch. I bet it wasn't so fun to do though LOL. Very satisfying. I am now going to go see if you have more videos like this lol
You guys are really hard workers. I bet your sore from all that. You rocked it though. Great job! I gotta subscribe so i can watch more of them. Thanks guys. Keep up the great work!
What a work! Turned out great! Some question tho… is it the editing that makes it seem like you don’t give the chemical time to do its thing? Because it appears you immediately rinse it away from the surface. Or is it because you use a higher percentage of bleach that you need to do that, otherwise it bites in the pool? Also, why is only one of you wearing a mask? 😮 Working so close together must mean both of you must getting hit with those toxic fumes. Or… I dunno. 😅 please take care of yourself and keep up the good work.
Yeah it’s editing and you have to also take I. Consideration that the chemical can damage plaster (Pool surface )… so quicker we wash it off the better. He just didn’t want to. Thanks for the feedback
Not sure if yall have tried it before but with the algae. Possibly try 10% pool bleach mixed with water and a surfactant. Possibly dilute it to a 4-5% mixture. Should will kill all the algae it touches but not sure what y’all have where y’all are at
Yes there are some cause we just bleach the heck out of the pool And leave it for couple days to circulate. But in some cause it’s too bad so we just drain and acid wash it
Look into what's called a sludge sucker. It attaches to the end of your pressure washing gun and creates vacuum which sucks up the water with the attachment and drains the water down the thicker hose it comes with. Could work for when you are left with low water and lots of sludge that the pump can't handle. Also look into a bucket sprayer. It's a lid with a 1 gallon per minute pump and a runs off a drill battery (12v or 18v). You can suck up that acid and spray it from a 5 gallon bucket with a hose rather than the watering can or adapt it for a larger bucket. Could be useful for you. You should also use a surface cleaner (16") since it looks like you're using a 4gpm machine (4" per 1gpm is recommended). I use a 16" with my 4gpm machine.
Great job with that pool transformation as I was watching a video. I was just thinking about my Auntie pool. We stay in Miami in her pool has been swimming with algae frogs little fish for 15 years and her pool is not near as big as the pool that she was working on, she needs help. I used to clean kitchen exhaust systems, we'd apply the chemical detergent with a pump up spray bottle, the injector made life so much easier!
I am ignorant in the ways of deep cleaning a pool and chemical disposal. It looks like hard work. I'm curious where all the acid that was used is disposed of? Thanks
