Knee arthritis (osteoarthritis) is one of the worst things a doctor can diagnose you with. It’s devastating to leave the doctor’s office with pictures in your mind of your knee x-rays and the stiffness and discomfort you’ve been living with in your knee joint.
It feels hopeless at times because most people in the medical field don’t give much hope for knee arthritis.
    They tell patients things like:
“It’s only going to get worse as you get older,” or
“You’re going to have to give up being active like you have been,” or
“It’s age-related and runs in your family, so there’s not much you can do,”
…and the worst to hear is:
“It’s just a matter of time before you need a knee replacement.”

Very Helpfull !!!. I was able to lay on my table today, facing down, and almost reaching my head with my feet from behind! My husband warned me to not get crazy. The glute muscles are indeed working,!!! But yes I did over do it! a great feeling! Thank you, thank you!!Dr! I wish you were a traveling doctor...lol

Your videos have been so helpful. This is my second flare up with stiff knee, constant pain and a muscle that prevents me from weight bearing in the mornings. I usually use a walking stick plus hold onto the walls or anything else for support. My husband helps me on occasions. With your exercises I am now in the down turn with the pain. Because I am going camping with my Rolling Solo ladies group I have been so worried that I could not go due to loss of mobility. I still have 5 weeks before my long trip and can now look forward to being able to drive. Thank you so much. I had even booked in for an injection to be able to travel. I won’t need that now. I also have the documents to visit a specialist for a knee replacement which I am sure I won’t need in the next 6 months

I want to let you know how much I appreciate your videos. I never miss a chance to check out and follow your advice. The advice you offer has helped me tremendously. I have bone in one knee and very little cartilage in the other. I ride 5 miles a day on my bike, most always 35 miles a week. Thanks to you I changed the way I ride to use my glutes in place of the quad muscles making me so much stronger than I was. I've been able to avoid a much dreaded knee replacement and rarely have to take an Advil. This is only one example of the tips I've picked up from your videos. Thank you so much!

This has been so well timed for me! I’m now 6 week post TKR on the left knee and doing well however I tried a new exercise with my physio a couple of days ago (half squat) and I now have a very painful sharp pain in the inner aspect of my right knee which had a lesser degree of OA and had been fairly comfortable for a few weeks, till now, it now feels worse than my left knee! 😢 I was in a bit of a panic till I saw your video as I’m keen to avoid a replacement on that side too! 😳I’ll rest with analgesia as much as I can but still have to exercise my new TKR. Hope this settles! Thank you for your expertise, appreciated. 🥰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧

I do public address for my local high school and have to go up 30 large steps, meaning about a 14 inch gap between each one, to the press box. Once to twice a week. My arthritis really flares up later that day or evening after going up and coming down those steps. I do use your advice going up and down by turning my leg/foot out to the side, but it still makes it flare up for 24 hours afterwards. Any advice for that? I’ve tried taking Tylenol an hour before hoping that will help, it does some, but the flare up after still happens.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  9 місяців тому

Hey Doug, great question! The reason we turn our feet out while going up the steps is to make it easier for the glutes to do the work. However, it is still very important to concentrate on the glutes during each step. Just because they are in a good position does not mean they will activate subconsciously. Hope this helps!

Why cant Drs. Diagnose the root causes of the knee pain.. as well as other pain???
Or is it that they dont want to.
I also have some sort of muscle injury in the quad on my right leg.
Is it real or referred. Doing exercises tells me that the injury is local. I still have concerns. 😢
I can bend the knee. But it hurts like HELL. And there is a n injury to my quad thats holding me back.
Strengthing other muscles is not complicated to ME...i get it. Imperative t o do.

Consious about and continiously focusing on relaxing the overpowering muscle, front thigh, which is suspected being too strong in exercise, that seems to be working, I find.
By the way, this is why I do not really "exercise". Instead I TRAIN!
