What is the best exercise to help get pain relief from knee arthritis?

  • The best knee arthritis exercise really depends on where you are in your knee osteoarthritis. Treating knee arthritis really is a process and cannot be fixed by one single exercise done repeatedly over time. This is why sometimes an exercise will help for a while and then eventually the pain might return.
    People that suffer from knee arthritis often find 1 exercise they like that makes them feel better - like cycling for example. Then they’ll invest in a bike and keep doing that with hopes of making the knee arthritis problem go away. But that’s just not the full picture for treating a knee osteoarthritis problem. Once the knee improves, then it’s important to start to work on exercises that progress you through the next phase.
    In this video, Dr. David overviews the different phases of knee arthritis and shows you examples of what exercises you might be doing depending on what phase you’re in for your knee arthritis.

    Seriously you're my mighty knee guru forever and the miracle I was looking for.
    I have done everything to work with this arthritis pain. The list is very long... Acupuncture, Qigong, physical therapy. The fact that you are so specific with your physical therapy and so thoughtful is amazing. I am so incredibly grateful to have found you on UA-cam. I like others and considering purchasing the knee arthritis recovery program in the near future. I just found you yesterday and already I could go to the gym and to some of the range of motion exercises you recommend and I'm using my glutes when I walk so I can walk. That's one day I'm really looking forward to what happens after a month or 3 months or a year of following your program. May your life, your family and everyone that surrounds you be blessed!!!

    I enjoyed this video because I've been debating getting your course. This video gave me a better view of what it would be like. I have severe arthritis and definitely caused a major flare-up over a month ago that I never experienced these past eight years. On Friday, I had gel injections in both knees and will have PRP injections in a month. I also started to wear a brace at that time. I loved it from the get-go, and I really think it helps me. I have been using a cane, which ended up causing my other knee to begin to hurt.
    I happened to watch a video where you replied in a comment, linking a site to find a manual PT. I was excited there were two people nearby. I have been hesitant to have physical therapy. I watched a video where you talked about doing what you need to do to help yourself - having an injection, going to physical therapy for example. Saying this did help me move forward with what a doctor I had seen suggested. I have been doing three to five of your exercises overall and a few others here and there for several weeks, and I have been doing better - before I had the injections/wearing the brace. Thank you so much.

    After going to several PT places, and a partial replacement, I finally found a good PT place. You are even better than that! It’s unfortunate there are so many mediocre PT out there since it’s so important. I’m so appreciative that you make such good You Tube videos. Thank you

      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Рік тому

      Hey @Tours-DIY-Reviews-HowToDo, so glad the glute exercises are making you feel better! In most cases you will not get rid of arthritis completely. However, the purpose of what we are doing in these videos is to get rid of muscle imbalances that are causing the knee pain. Once we get rid of these imbalances the joint will be in a good position to allow healing to occur. It is not likely to completely get rid of the arthritis, but it will allow for noticeable improvements. If you are interested in learning more about knee arthritis, we have a great playlist that may help. Here is the link:

    A couple of weeks ago, I overdid it with pickleball and leg machines at the gym. I was afraid I re tore my meniscus! I have been babying my knee with ice, NSAIDs ever since and doing tailgates, so maybe another week or two of glute work before playing pickle ball again? Would swimming be okay now and stationary bike?

    When I try the clamshells, even though I can feel my glutes working, I feel pain in my knee. It's like there's a tendon, or something, that's wrapped around the inside of my knee that's being pulled. And that hurts.

      Hi Lydia, Thank you for mentioning this. You want to do it as many times until you tire out the glute muscle but are still able to control the correct form. It would also be great to be able to do it several times a day if you can.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Рік тому

      Hey @lorralorra9133 that depends on what you can tolerate without making anything hurt AND still using the glutes WITHOUT using the quads. Some people can do 10 second holds just about 20-30 times per day and others need to be doing 50-100 reps per day. The more you can tolerate the quicker you can gain strength. Just don’t use your quads too much or you’ll make your knee pain worse.

    I am a fitness instructor who specializes in PIlates. I think you need to be careful with the advice you are giving. It is important to move everyday. We need to maintain heart health as well. Yes, activating the glutes is very important, but no muscle should be stressed more than other muscles. One should also have strong quads and hamstrings. Surprised you do not mention core. Abs take pressure off the whole body, when properly engaged, Too many doctors advocate for elimination of movement when they should focus on modifying the exercises people enjoy doing.
