• Knee Arthritis Help
Stiffness from knee arthritis is a symptom of worsening knee arthritis. It’s a good symptom that will tell you if you’re getting better or worse.
If you can improve your knee mobility and be less stiff, especially in the morning when you first wake up, then you have a better chance at keeping your knee arthritis under control.
Getting your knee arthritis under control is vital to reduce swelling and increase how much time you can tolerate on your feet without making knee arthritis worse.
It’s possible to completely get rid of knee stiffness from knee arthritis if you are not too severe in your condition. You can get back to being active around your home and even exercising without getting more stiff in your knees.
The trick is to fix the root of the problem. Our 28 Day Knee Health & Wellness Boost Program is a program that focuses on treating the root of knee arthritis.
It can help you achieve more knee flexibility and strength.
It's a 100% online and on-demand program for improving knee health. It's packed with exercises, advice and coaching from Dr. David.

At 72 I have Arthritis in my knees. I must subscribe to about 20 different physical therapists here on You tube. You by far have been the most help to me in my particular case. You give very detailed instructions while demonstrating exercises. Then you always back it up with what the exercise does to help the condition. Thank you so very much and have a great day!

I have liquid removed from my knee and got steroid shot and in 3 days liquid came again and getting worse again. I need to remove liquid again and my knee is swollen and painful and why steroid medicine doesn’t help? Doctor told I need knee replacement servers. Can I avoid it
Thank you Dr David for this advice. I spent 18 months in denial and my knee was a puffy mess. But now I have tried these exercises and also pay attention to how my left knee feels, not overdoing it. Much better! I used to have that problem of staggering out of bed and when standing up after sitting for a while. Now I dont have that anymore, and it is improving weekly. Thank you! ❤

Thanks David, i have meniscus tears, so exercises may help me. I won’t over do it that’s for sure. I didn’t realise how stiff my knees were, until I entered a pool with a deep step, I had to have help. Walking up the step was ok. Thanks, I really like your exercise. 😉

Hey Yolanda, you are so welcome! Thank you for the kind words, we really appreciate the support!
I over did it at the gym a couple weeks ago on the cardio strider and while I know I have ligament problems, I also have a lot of arthritis in my right knee. Since I started doing these arthritis exercises, my knee pain has gone from a 9 to a 3. Before I get out of bed in the morning I do these and what a difference. I also have been doing them several times a day. Thanks for these!
Hey Doug! Thank you for your feedback! We are thrilled to hear that you have seen a significant decrease in knee pain after doing the stretches on this video. It is not uncommon for your knee to get flared up from doing cardio, this usually occurs due to the natural tendency of the quads to take over and put excess pressure on the knee. The stretches in this video are a good start but you also need to spend some time strengthening the glutes so you could potentially improve your condition.
Here are some glute exercises for you:

Thank you! I'm finally figuring out several things I have been doing incorrectly for years thanks to much of your advice. I absolutely cannot do repetitive activities day after day (exercise bike, walking) and much mix things up. I also think stretching too intensely is a problem. You have pointed out points that I no other PT has and it's helped me so much. Hopefully others will find you sooner than I did.

Thank you so much for making this information available for people that are having problems with their bodies as we are ageing etc. I especially appreciate when you explain why something should, or should not be done, as it makes it so much easier to follow when you understand why it should be avoided, or encouraged! I've had this diagnosis:
Moderate medial tibiofemoral compartment osteoarthritis. No appreciable subchondral insufficiency fracture.
Medial meniscal degeneration and extrusion with radial tear of the posterior horn.
Focal chondromalacia patella.
Moderate suprapatellar bursal effusion. Prominent suprapatellar plica.
and was worried that I would create problems in one area or another if I did exercises. But I will give this a go. Thank you again!

I may try these, however, my knees never stiffen up, they just are very painful, more so when coming down steps. I go to rehab for balance after a stroke, and due to my back and sciatica issues. They actually help my knees at times, except for knee bends or slight squats.

Hey Melissa, we are so happy to hear that we are able to help you! We appreciate you letting us know and would love to hear an update!
Hi again. Since I last commented on your post I was doing pretty well and felt things were going in the right direction. I had watched your cycling video too and had started using an indoor cycle a little and everything seemed to be going OK. Then last Thursday (5days ago) I did something which seems to have made matters much, much worse. I am in a lot of pain. I am hoping that if I can describe what I did, you might be able to give me an idea what happened and how I might address it.
So I was at work sitting at my desk. A colleague needed to use another chair in the office (normal type of adjustable office chair) which is normally used by another colleague. The chair had been set all the way down to its lowest point and she needed it higher. She could not move it. I tried to help her by pulling the lever and lifting the seat with my hands (she was not sitting on the chair) but it would not budge. Therefore, without thinking about whether it would be good for my knees, I sat on the chair, grasped the lever and pushed down hard with my feet against the floor while lifting the seat with my hands. It worked and the seat came up- but as it did I felt something nasty happen and was immediately in a lot of pain- much more than before, and I wouldn't say it has improved at all since. My mobility is now really down and I am in a lot of pain, especially during all the usual difficult situations (going downstairs, getting up and down off chairs and getting up after sitting for a while is pretty excruciating. Also my sleep is disrupted.
I would honestly welcome any advice you could give me. I am already referred to physio and muscular skeletal services here in UK but no appointments likely any time soon.
Sorry for such a long message. Kind regards,Melissa.

Thank you Doc David. The knee pain started when I walk 8 kilometers back and forth last January 21st. The pain occurs when at rest but if am in mobility or woke up, then the pain subsides. But no swell and my left knee doesn't turn reddish.

Hi doctor
You are welcome 🌹🌹
Ok I've been watching videos for inner knee pain. Your recommended exercises really help. Thank you. Well this morning I woke up and my knee feels like there is something in it to prevent it from moving. Like something stuck in the joint AND it's on the outside of the knee!!! Now what do I do???
Hello David, thank you for your reply. I was diagnosed with stage 4 on my rt knee. I have had pain while walking, but after doing a set of exercises especially for the knee. Like srengthening the muscles that control knee movements and legs, I have almost no more pain while walking, bending or doing sit ups. Thank you.
Hey Martin, you are very welcome!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!! It makes us really happy hearing stories like these, because strengthening your body WORKS!! Keep on working at it!

Hi dr David....why am I unable to sit on my heels like before? Are there exercises I could do to improve this issue?
Hi Dr.David, i've been follwing your channel since a month. I suffered 'Fixed Fexion Deformity' of the knee after overworking of it since few months. My MRI diagonosis says chondromalacia patella , poplytieus tendonosis, ligament sprains and lateral meniscus horizontally teared on anterior horn. X-ray report says intitial stage of OA; RA- factor tested is negative. My Dr. said to keep doing the knee stretches regularly. Its been 1.5months , off painkillers now; knee extn can be done but hyper-extn not yet; still can't bear load while walking with crutches. The vastus lateralis still seems to be in atrophy. PLS SUGGEST SOME MORE TIPS/ REMEDIES IF ANY. Best regards ~~Sourav (from India)
