Hello dr. thanks to you, I have just cancelled my knee replacement operation. I don't know how it happened, but your video came out of the blue and caught my attention. I think the angels were helping me. Watching some video's and reading the comments made me realize that my knee is not in a bad condition as I have been told. It seemed like a smashed potato on de foto to the surgeon, but I can swim, walk, take care of my household and myself. I am 73 year old female and in good health. I recently stopped with the gym school and pilates, which did not help but has worsened the pain It was the best desicion I have made, at least at this stage. So I am going to start with strenghtening my glute muscles and avoid the knee replacement surgery for ever! Thank god I found you.
Hey Nevin, we are so happy that we were able to help you avoid knee replacement surgery!! That is awesome and we appreciate you letting us know! In case you are interested, we also have a knee arthritis recovery program available that can help to rebuild the health of your knee. Since watching your videos on how to walk and how to engage your glutes in the process a few months ago my knee and hip pain (IT band) has all but completely disappeared. What was most frustrating was that EVERY other physio out there was saying keep your feet pointed straight ahead while walking which making it worse since of course it keeps you from being able to completely engage your glutes. I can’t thank you enough for your dedication to teaching us. I wish nothing but the best for you David.
I've started backward walking and it's helped a lot, I actually did some a few years ago but only up and down hills to get thru some walking paths. I can't say if it will get me pain free, but have asses the kneesovertoes program and so far I'm impressed. I was looking into knee replacement it was getting so bad.
Thank you Dr. David! ♥ I must say the first thing that helped my knees after a bad flare-up was the "tailgate swinging". Only a few days after I started swinging the knees improved! I am also taking the supplements you recommended and doing glute exercises + walking cautiously with glutes involved. This has improved my knees so much over the last 2 months, I would never have thought it possible! Thank you so much!
Hey there, you are very welcome! We are so happy to hear that our recommendations have made such a difference in your life! Thank you for letting us know what worked best!
I'm only to happy that I found this, your channel. I was born knock kneed, pigeon toed and bull legged. I was very flexible. I had a failed left knee replacement 16 years ago which lead to disability. I'm a natural healer. Worked on many people since 6. I drink bovine no additive collagen every morning. I just turned 70. 3 years ago I fell off a ladder which my femur and Tibia were replaced left side. I use natural unadulterated oils, milk. But my eating habits could improve. Of course I went to an orthopedic mostly to see that the right knee cartilage medial is worn..right side is good. Besides losing weight 5'1 about 160, going to pt starting this Monday, should I go to chiropractor? I also have a little bit of scoliosis right side (Dr who replaced hip said the right one should be..I said no) You are a wonderful find for me. Thank you for your dedication!
Hi Doc, thank you for sharing these videos. Could you please also share your thoughts on Barefoot foot shoes vs using arch supports and whether backwards walking can help knee pain? Would really appreciate that. Thanks!
PLEASE MAKE A VEDIO ON RED LIGHT THERAPY FOR KNEE PAIN & PROBLEMS . PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AS THERE ARE SO MANY PPL TALKING ABOUT IT TO COMBAT KNEE ISSUES. THANK YOU
Hey there, collagen is gaining a lot of traction! It is theorized to assist cartilage repair, but more research should be done to determine whether it does make a noticeable impact. Hope this helps!
Before my knee surgery I loved walking and now with my new diagnosis of knee arthritis and hip bursitis it's so painful 😢 Thank you for all your videos with all this important information. Also do you suggest any specific knee support to relieve pain when walking. All that I have tried either don't fit or slide off?
Hey Yolanda, there are many kinds of knee braces and each of them have a specific use. There can be many things causing your knee arthritis, so it becomes difficult to predict which brace would be best for you. We have a great video differentiating knee braces in case you are interested in learning more. Here is a link: “Choosing The Best Knee Brace For You | A Physical Therapist’s Guide” ua-cam.com/video/gEaHje4YbJk/v-deo.html "Comparing The 4 Best Types Of Support Braces For Knee Arthritis Pain" ua-cam.com/video/GblgIlWdp-c/v-deo.html
Thank you Dr. D for your knee arthritis program! 🙏🏻My left knee responded beautifully (stage 2-4 OA w/meniscus tears & Bakers cyst). My right knee then blew up and MRI does not look good-advanced OA. I’ll find out more in two days when I speak with sports ortho. In the mean time I am continuing the exercises I learned from your program and using your information to modify some exercises given to me by sports PT. I was an avid hiker and MTBer so this is devastating to me. I have two flights of stairs and because it’s painful to walk down I go backwards with NO pain! Of course I’m super careful and hold onto the railing. Besides the tail gate swing (has everyone at PT gym curious), low resistance stationary bike has helped. What are your thoughts about walking backwards on a treadmill?
Hi. Thanks for this invaluable advice which you for free. I was diagnosed with knee arthritis. I have been following your exercises. Am 58yrs and weigh 96kg i thought walking could help. I recently started walking and I feel pain on my ankle. Is this imbalance or not
Hey there, great question! This can also be a muscle imbalance at the ankle. Here is a great video of exercises that can help with that in case you are interested in learning more: ua-cam.com/video/T81YSH0g3RU/v-deo.html
I find the longer I am onbmy feet my knee pains...I keep on swinging my leg , strenghen glutes and drink the supplements you advised. Bless you doc. South Africa.
Hello David , Been watching so many of your knee video the information is very helpful. I waiting on a MRI as I have had knee pain for 4 weeks where I struggled to walk , now it seems to got to the point I can't bend my knee and tender on the inside of the knee . I tried your exercise get more bend , as in bend a little wait then bit more the knee makes so much noise as I straighten. But then do get a bit more bend . I have a feeling it's meniscus problem going by your videos . I live in the UK so it takes a long time to see someone. Would it be a good idea to wear a knee brace or will this not help? Thank you for all your videos Dean
Hi, D Sotec! We are so glad this information has been helpful to you! Braces are an excellent tool to use during the first stages of recovering from a torn meniscus. However, if there is a root issue, such as a muscle imbalance; it is very important to address in order to fully recover from it. Here is a playlist with lots of informative content that could help: “Knee Meniscus Help” ua-cam.com/play/PLJVIPiFvv1mZ9Vh4eRH3UlmMeqOUtB-6a.html You might also want to learn more about our Knee Meniscus Recovery Program: "Knee Meniscus Recovery Program" www.epmanualphysicaltherapy.com/meniscus-recovery
I’m curious as to what you think about a knee replacement in my situation. 14 years ago, I was in a bad car accident in which my left knee went into the dashboard. To make a long story shorter, I had surgery six months later in which they had to do a lateral release and polish the end of my femur, because it had been crushed but didn’t show up in any X-ray or MRI I had at the time. It’s now been 14 years and I’m at the point in which I might need the knee replacement that I barely avoided then. Is it possible that the reshaping of my bones could be causing the arthritis or would it only be caused by muscle imbalance?
Hey there, sorry to hear about your crash! :( Great question and definitely not a simple answer. If the procedure was done well and the bones and joint were lined up well after the surgery, then it is very possible that the arthritis is being caused largely by the muscle imbalance. However, arthritis tends to follow areas of injury. So, the car crash and the surgery would both be seen as an injury to the body, leading to the development of more arthritis. Our content and programs would definitely be able to help regardless of the situation. hey doctor I had a knee joint trauma specifically in the knee cap and I have a pain only in the lateral (outer side) it's been a year now since the accident and I'm only 25 should I just follow your general advices for classic osteoarthritis ..thank you
Hey there, generally speaking these osteoarthritis exercises are great for the overall health of the knee and would likely be good to do. We also have a video describing a "tibial shift" that will be linked down below. In this video we show what it is and how to treat it for a medial tibial shift. For a lateral tibial shift you would push the tibia medially instead of laterally. This is a possibility as to what is going on, but it is difficult to determine without an evaluation Hope this helps and here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/CJ5qj-406A4/v-deo.html

Walking will not do much for weight loss. 90% of weight loss is proper nutrition. Cut the carbs, increase fat and protein. It works.
