- Can Rice Save A PS Vita Dropped In Water? - Extended Version - In this video I'll be working with two different PS Vitas, one from a viewer who said they found it in a storage unit, and the other from a seller who said they dropped it in water and put it in rice to dry. Let's take a look inside these consoles and see what we need to fix. Between these two consoles we will for sure have a lot to work on!

I love you videos. You have inspired me to try fixing electronics instead of just simply tossing them. I am a cancer survivor and had one of my lungs removed and I can’t do anything physically so sitting at a desk trying to breathe life back into something feels right. I hope to one day have half the knowledge and patience you have at fixing these things. Thank you so much
I am with you, no more tossing anything. I may never repair them myself but this channel has taught me even broken electronics have value to someone, might as well sell them if I am not going to fix them. I also want to get in to repairing my own BUT I will be happy enough if I learn how to solder.
Its been almost a year since I sent my vita to him, glad he has a longer recording of repairing it! My vita was the 2000
I always did basic and minor cleaning for my consoles and controllers such as taking the shells off but watching him inspired me to try and start my own cleaning and refurbishing business via these videos he's been there for me in hard times such as when my dad died in 2021 my dad was the main supporter of my hobby turned dream and when he died I all but gave up but I continued watching these videos and it's keeping me going so thanks man for everything.
There is a bad flaw with The PS Vita 1000 Models they require a Battery to turn on and plugging in a charger with no battery will not turn it on. That is a problem with 1000 models because when the battery drops below a specific charge you get the "Orange Light of Death" which means a Orange Blinking light when you try to charge it and it goes nowhere and does not charge. Sometimes just plugging it to charge will bring it back, but a few times it does no charge and you need to jump start the battery before it can charge.
The best way to try and fix it is to try to enter Safe Mode (When charging Press and Hold the R button + PS Button + Power button) and it will force it to try to turn it on and will usually show an empty battery symbol on the screen and then leave it to charge for a while. For me it usually always turn on. If after that it still does not charge then the battery needs replacing.
This trick worked on all my PS Vitas that had this issue.
I have three oleds, and if I leave them for too long and the battery dies, I do get the blinking orange light. But after about 10 minutes the light stops blinking and it charges perfectly.
@@lemming9984 That's a non-issue basically. The blinking light lets you know that the battery level is too low for it to power on.
But at least it's taking a charge like it's supposed to.
The real issue is when it doesn't take a charge because of severe overdischarge (e.g. the user storing it away on a low battery level would cause this). No lights, no signs of life, nothing.
Two PS Vita's saved from landfill, awesome job!
Rice doesn't do crap, desiccant is cheap on Amazon and will actualy do something
I love this channel. I been watching your videos for awhile now. The real question is..... is there a perfect amount of liquid damage? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅
Nice, success on both must feel good!
I deal with a lot of batteries (repair also electronic stuff). You can kinda "by feel" see if the battery is good, but its better to buy a tester tool that is capable of charging and discharging the battery to assess the health. The best ones will give you a capacity reading (real capacity left) , internal resistance, self discharge rate, etc. W ith that you can determine if a battery is good, normally my standard is 90% or more of the original capacity and low self discharge rate is a good battery, otherwise to the special recycle bin.
Rice is a total myth and does not work but I know you know this my friend! Glad to see you looking well!
Not true, I've seen it work but the device needs to be left in it for days before any power on attempt. Silica gel works even better. I saved my ex's iPod that went through a washing machine by leaving it in silica gel for a few days.
@@PJthePlayer Silica gel works because it is a desiccant. Rice is not. It was leaving it alone without attempting to power it on, not putting it in rice.
Nice! ❤️ Also nice to see that you are recovering. I wish i had but they are too expensive in the portuguese market.
You are looking alot better!!!! hope you are doing well, Great video
I know this videos is going to encourage me to open up my xbox and clean it !
Glad to see ur hair is growing back
I had to go in search of an explanation for Jake Brakes there....now I know 👍😎
A small tip from personal experience if I may...when testing the voltage of a lipo battery, lay the connector on a firm surface and NOT on the battery itself. I assure you bad things can happen if one of the probes slips and punctures the cell. Very bad things.
Love ur psp and vita vids
I still have the OG white assassin creed bundle one, with the box and all love this handheld
just got me a SD2Vita so I can have way more space for stuff, I probably should have done this ages ago, but better than never.
I fixed my other half's Xbox XS controller & now I must fix as many as I can!
Possible trick for not needing to work left handed; rotate the project 180° and work right handed!
I checked your store and I dont see that PS5 shirt. Did i miss it or is it no longer available. I see the poster.
Rice doesn't do anything other than making the person leave the device alone for a few hours.
Think about how much energy you have to put in to get rice when cooking it to get it to absorb water.
I’d love to see how them assemble these damn things lol
Vita rice is delicious with boiled NES pin connectors. Mmm!
Nice video has usual. What product did you use on the ultrasonic bath? thanks.
Love your channel bro
The psp vita has a fail safe if the battery drops to low it stops the charging circuit, usually unplugging the battery for a few mins resets it as the psp thinks its a new battery
the oled vitas had a number of nasty flaws with their battery system, its so bad that one of the big homebrew options baked into a lot of hacks is a reset switch for the battery manager and you can expect to have to leave it charging for up to an hour if its been left too long before it responds to anything
I wonder what major one could get in to study such things because I genuinely wanna know more about thise things🤔🤔
Nice job!
Rice will not draw out moisture from electronics, it’s too difficult to reach. However, to prevent FURTHER moisture from getting in via adhesion from humidity in open air, it isn’t the worst idea. Being prepared to leave it off, examining it for shorts and potentially cleaning/repairing it is the best way forward…or just buy another one, whatever…
Rice is arbsorbent, but you are right it's unable to draw all the moisture out. Plus rice gets soft and sticky when wet, so there's a good chance that you will get Rice particles stuck in your electronic device
dont you hate those string like coax wires they are so easy to mess up
I was riding on my bike then it was wet and my iphone 5s slipped and fell in a 2 foot puddle. This happened today too i opened it up, took the motherboard out then i soaked it in isopropyl alcohol and i had a heat gun to dry it up. Now its laying on my window frame getting dried up. Btw this is not my main phone i just use it for how fast i ride on my bike.
Happy to see your recovery. 🙂
is the corrosion mainly tin whiskering?
Love the video's, dont know if your religious or not, but i put in a prayer for your health.
Is there a way to buy one of the ps vitas you fixed from you i never owned one and would love to get one
Hi steve guarantee if u install original battery vita will power on this happened to me in 2008 opened vita reconnected battery has worked ever since its as if battery needs reset
What cleaner do you use in ultrasonic cleaner
I'll never understand why they design these handhelds to use the screens as a heatsink.
Buen video
I have a vita 2000 that was dropped in water after cleaning it up from the inside it charged and powered on,my issue is that the backlight of the LCD does not work, I can only see if I shine my flashlight directly into the screen even then it's hard to see. What could be the issue, can someone guide me pls, thx!
Rotate the unit 180 degrees and every ribbon cable is now right handed again.....
I thought putting it in rice attracts the Chinese team to fix it while you sleep. Have I been mislead?
Lipo battery range is from 3V to 4.2-4.35V
Instead of using your left hand spin the vita around
Yeah much easier, but still sometimes it doesn't want to go in
PS Vita Batteries are plentiful. Easily found on Aliexpress. And no not knockoffs, they are original sony batteries.
Baggy full of Silica packs. Furniture and TV boxes come with large ones. You'll thank me later.
The reason you were able to fix it is because the PSVita was on rice :D
could alway's turn the game around18 to make it easyer for u
@tronixfix can I send you my Vita to repair?
What about putting it in a microwave??
Just kidding.
I did this as a child before knowing the risks and put it this way it went crackle and pop then a massive bang 😂
rice doesn't work, ever. never power up gear suspected of liquid damage. take out everything and inspect under a microscope. clean corrosion with ipa and redo contaminated solder, even if it's a bga chip. 3.6V equals 3.7V (10% rule). there's probably noise on the temperature signal causing the vita not to accept the battery. at least there's no logic on the battery that can lock it.
You've got a lot of views. Please educate your audience wisely. Most of my game console repairs are from kids who think they know what they do because they watched youtube clips and own an ifixit set.
This is an honest reply. I mean well for all your audience and their gear.
Nearly unsubscribed when i read could rice save as ps vita i can't believe how many people think that actually works 😂😂😂😂
