Never in my life I'd ever expect a popular Minecraft youtuber to ever acknowledge the existence of Minecraft psvita. Heck, some popular UA-camrs think that legacy switch edition was the first legacy console edition to be played on the go.
fun fact: all of the menus and the hotbar also allowed you to use the touchscreen to navigate them. so theoretically, if you mastered that, you could probably have a decent advantage over most folks playing battle mode

as someone who spent thousands of hours as a kid on the ps3 playing Minecraft, it made me cry remembering the minigames on legacy. Those were probably some of the best moments I have ever had in gaming, spent with my friends, forming bonds with random people then crying because my parents said I couldn't friend them. In all, thanks 4J for some really cool features.
I remember me and my friend would stay up on weekends and play battle on his xbox 360, I'd usually dominate for a few rounds then screw up and he'd start to conquer.

something to note about the performance of the latest version is that it only got worse AFTER 1.13 was introduced (Which wasn't even supposed to be implemented). It was a fairly stable 30fps before that. Also pretty sure save transfers were removed due to servers going down; they worked by storing the worlds on a server.

Yes I noticed that, one of the updates severely reduced performance. Very noticeable because I used to transfer saves between PS3/Vita regularly, and the performance difference between them got bigger and bigger over time.
Its still a showcase of how amazing the Vita was and how dogshit the 3ds was in comparison. The 3ds version of minecraft runs at 10 fps, at a way lower resolution, and lacks more features. Vita runs Minecraft with all of the features the big consoles had at the end of their lifecycle and with just a bit worse performance.
I miss the console legacy edition so much. I have so many memories of the tutorial world and the mini games that bedrock edition could never get out of me
You can still play them 💀 in fact, the PS4/PS5 version still has the legacy edition on the game. So you can go back and play that version, even if that means you can’t use a keyboard and mouse. Plus the other legacy versions are still purchasable (asides from the Xbox 360 version)
If you get Minecraft digitally from the Vita store, it gives you the option of whether or not to download the update. I purposefully don’t have it so it runs better lol

I remember when I finally got my vita one of the coolest things about it and this game was that if you had a ps3 version you got the vita version for free. Really made getting a vita worth it at the time for me since I had so many cross compatible games.

I actually lucked out with the Vita Edition. I got PS3 Edition used from GameStop a couple weeks ago, noticed the download code, and kinda immediately wrote it off as "it won't work". Now Minecraft Enhanced, a modified and improved version of Minecraft for the Ps Vita has released and coupled with some other Homebrew tools to make the FPS more stable, this Portable version of the game is better than ever.

I used to rearrange the control scheme in my settings so I could use the square and circle buttons to move through my items instead of the d-pad. It was actually game-changing, and gave you the ability to play more like normal.
I'm not gonna lie to you, this video led me to get a PS Vita, and while I've played quite a bit of Minecraft on it, it led me to play a ton of games I never even considered playing, and eventually led to me finding one my new favorite games, Persona 4. Seriously never expected to find all these amazing games when I got this thing, it's seriously one of my favorite handhelds to play on and I've found myself unable to put it down as of late. Thanks for introducing me to this console !!
This version was my childhood and how I met a friend that we sadly dont speak to much today I love it in every sense, I love how the colors are so warm and washed out, it just felt so simple and perfect
This game also used to be in my childhood, I had multiple friends that I don’t really speak to any more either, all I know is we had a fun time back then.
I loved the Vita version, I played it with my friend in School using ad hoc, and we could transfer the saves back and forth to the PS3, so when we were home we'd play on PS3 and Vita when elsewhere. It was really cool.
I remember I got a vita because I wanted to play little big planet. Not long after though it was announced that Minecraft was coming to it and I got it for Christmas. Being about to play Minecraft on the go was incredible. I even made a pretty nice creative world. The vita was such an underrated console

the PS Vita to PS3 world transfer (and the PS3 to PS4 transfer) was removed because they shut those servers down a while ago. perhaps they weren't used too often? i know the Xbox 360 to Xbox One transfer is still up and running, and if you're running on the newest Xbox 360 version it'll let you transfer directly to Bedrock on Xbox One, but who knows how long that'll stay up for
I used to love Minecraft PS Vita. My PS Vita was my main handheld game console for a long time, and being able to play Minecraft anywhere was amazing. I only have good memories from it.
The PS Vita honestly makes me sad. Unlike other failed consoles like the Wii U and Virtual Boy. The PS Vita actually had a chance, but it's lack of games both 1st and 3rd party made it flop.

This version of Minecraft made my childhood. Just getting home from school and play with my friends… good times. If i had to guess how many hours I spent in this I would say about 2000 - 2500
Ad hoc mode uses the PS Vita's own wifi to host the network, rather than using LAN, so it'll work out and about with no modem. I believe LAN support existed in some PSV games, labelled as "local play". Extremely cool video, nonetheless. Absolutely neat to see someone even TOUCH Vita Ad Hoc! Though one other thing I'll say is that OLEDs aren't inherently superior; although generally true, modern LCD LED panels can achieve brighter whites because their light emitting components are much larger (on a an OLED, they're always rhe same size as a pixel.)

i remember the ios minecraft. no survival and a very barebone creative map. it was the worst before it came to xbox and all the copy cats were there (total miner being the best after castle miner z). it was crazy to see the minecraft era. i miss it sm

7:55 Well, it's because you are doing it wrong. It's not a "Minecraft PS vita issue", it's more of a PSTV issue. At the very least, you should only allocate one of the dpads to moving either the right side or the left side of the hotbar, because in practice, you will almost always end up using the TOUCH SCREEN to cycle through items, which believe me, it's miles more comfortable and once you get used to it, you will lose no momentum at the moment of switching items. Because you are playing on the PS TV, you don't have acess to this feature. There may be a homebrew plugin that will let you remap the directional buttons to the upper shoulder buttons of a ps3 controller, but im not too sure. Also, all the minigame servers are way more active than you might think, it usually depends of the time of day, and if you host the game yourself, you will find people that will join in no time.
Minecraft was the first game I played ever. I dad gave me his xbox 360 and I chose what 3 year old me saw Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. Going back now, I wish I'd cherish old minecraft then and what the game gave me. Without minecraft, I probably wouldn't play anything. Thanks Minecraft, for making the best memories ever. :)
No, the Switch is absolutely an handheld console that can also be plugged to a TV. That’s because the actual handheld itself contains all the hardware, and the dock is literally just a piece of plastic with a power cable and an HDMI port.

Never got why people love console edition so much. Yes, it's nostalgic, I played xbox 360 edition and MCPE for the first 4 years I played Minecraft. But bedrock is just objectively better. I rejoiced when PS4 edition switched to Bedrock because I could play on servers and with people all around the world. It was amazing. I'm now a Java Edition player tho

I think it has a lot to do with bedrock prioritizing monetized gameplay, most of which is of low quality. I think having a marketplace where the community can make money off of their creations is good, but most of those "creators" are now larger groups that put more effort into advertising than they do products. It's become a big money cow more than it has a quality game. I think since console legacy was always developed by Mojang and 4J, it was always quality and none of the DLC was cheap or a ripoff. I'm aware Microsoft wants to make money still off a game they sell you once, but obviously quality isn't what they care about when monetizing.
@@Bearman3600 Most DLC I bought for Bedrock on switch has been official: Steven Universe pack, Toy Story Pack, Mariopaack. I have nevevvvr bought anything from the Marketplace aside a pack called ''Ultimate Weapons'' which adds a couple of weapons and a handful of new enemies and a miniboss, and also includes a world full of cool structures to explore. So it was one of those quality maps.
I find it hard to ignore when the first thing you see when you open the game is a vibrant advertisement for the Marketplace button, but I do get what you mean. I think overall, the UI differences and glitchyness of Bedrock just make it feel like a less quality product. Any console legacy game feels like a solid, competent game. Bedrock has always felt unstable and barely kept together to me, like every update introduces a new bug you have to get used to for awhile. I respect your preference of Bedrock though, there's a lot it has that console legacy could never offer. Maybe I'll do some video comparing both of them in the future, I just don't like a lot of the corporate stuff behind Bedrock aswell, some very shitty practices on Microsoft's end.
Bro this was such a trip down memory lane, like my god i remember playing this allot because i didn't buy a ps3 or 4, and i remember all the little moments here and there, i especially loved the Minigames and remember the hunger games styled one foundly, i loved the sand/pirate ship map and the elytra and snow tile minigames
when it comes to portable minecraft, don't forget about the New 3DS edition! still playable to this day. it's a fork of pocket edition, so not technically a legacy console edition. but it's legit. it's probably the most feature-complete portable way to play without just being Bedrock edit: ah okay you didn't forget haha
The best part about this version was that when it released, CrossBuy was bugged. If you downloaded the Vita demo, it gave you the full PS3 version for free, and if you then downloaded the full PS3 version, it gave you the full PSVITA version for free. So you got could get the Vita and PS3 version for free
I remember playing hours of this edition back in 2014, waiting for the updates for console edition and playing right after updating, i loved playing online with friends while talking to them on the party app, i really never enjoyed minecraft the same after i stopped playing this edition
I've spent infinite time on the PS VITA Edition until I stopped playing in 2018 since my screen broke. I finally fixed the screen though last year and I've had a blast revisiting worlds. I left them all untouched though and created a new world which I still play regularly
Instead of getting a smartphone like everyone else my age did at the time, for Christmas of 2016, 13 year old me asked for a psVita. We didn't have internet at home and I never got an SD card to expand the possible storage, so Minecraft was the only game I could play. I have very fond memories of this version of the game. Despite its very obvious technical drawbacks when you revisit it today, this port of the game was the main reason Minecraft is so important to me today. I often go back and even take inspiration from younger me, that had so many charming ideas for his world that weren't bogged down with modern standards for building or playing the game. I'm glad I had this.
I'd give anything for these days again. The transfer feature got so many modded worlds over to my ps4 and the memories i made with people won't go away anytime soon.
important to note that while the vita display is 960x544 games rarely ran at native res, minecraft being one of them (its 360 pixels vertical i believe?). with vitagrafix youre able to actually display it in native resolution and my god.. mwah

I love this version of Minecraft. Prior to its updates, it was the only version of Minecraft that plays Aria Math in Survival Mode, which makes me come back to this version more than others.
Overclocking my Vita (modded) solved all my Vita edition problems and made most games like Attack on Titan buttery smooth to play without noticeable battery life drops
I thoroughly enjoyed Ps VITA edition throughout it's life. I played it from pretty much physical release in Europe till the end. I loved the first versions on Minecraft Ps VITA. In this I am talking about 2014-2016. Near the end of 2016, when the big heavier updates designed for pc came around to PS Vita, you really saw the PS-Vita stutter.. a lot. I recall waiting !!5!! minutes to load the Update Aquatic tutorial world, and it being absolutely unplayable. Despite this, I loved every moment of it. I played via Ad Hoc with friends on the bus, at home through PSN (which, like the PS3, allowed you to play online WITHOUT Ps Plus). There was something about it you know, it had this vibe to it.. I played hours on end on this edition. My most favorite activity was playing survival SADLY (yes, there is a SADLY) my Ps-Vita died by cooking itself in 2018.. all my saves lost. The only remainder of it in my home are the games, which were Minecraft, Rayman and for some reason the very bad Lego Marvel game and screenshots I uploaded to Ps Vita facebook
I had a friend who purchased a vita just to play this and use the save transfer, and not even a week after he got it the final update was pushed out that removed the feature
Crazy how 4J Studios managed to make this port to a 2011 handheld and still have it be better than Bedrock edition is in 2023

This is why I stopped at 1.12.2. It got so much worse afterward and I'm really happy to stay at 1.12.2.
Quick correction: The PSvita you show at 11:34 is the 'slim' revision model, which did not feature an OLED screen.

Handheld Minecraft is unique. I had an Xperia Play, the Sony phone with built in controller and being able to play anywhere was nice

They removed the save transfer because Playstation descontinued the feature of transfering files from your VITA to a PS3. Any kind of file.
then why does it still work if you hack the param files to appear as a newer version

4j studios got to cook slightly longer on the PS4 and managed to make village and pillage so it's the best console to play legacy console on
This version of Minecraft made my childhood. Just getting home from school and play with my friends… good times. If i had to guess how many hours I spent in this I would say about 2000 - 2500
Ad hoc mode uses the PS Vita's own wifi to host the network, rather than using LAN, so it'll work out and about with no modem. I believe LAN support existed in some PSV games, labelled as "local play".

Though one other thing I'll say is that OLEDs aren't inherently superior; although generally true, modern LCD LED panels can achieve brighter whites because their light emitting components are much larger (on a an OLED, they're always rhe same size as a pixel.)

i remember having a group of friends on psn and playing this for hours i remeber playing this at night on a school night being told to get off the ps3 only to upload a save of it and take it to ps vita gosh time has changed i still keep my vita in purse still in grate condition as well

Well, it's because you are doing it wrong. It's not a "Minecraft PS vita issue", it's more of a PSTV issue.
At the very least, you should only allocate one of the dpads to moving either the right side or the left side of the hotbar, because in practice, you will almost always end up using the TOUCH SCREEN to cycle through items, which believe me, it's miles more comfortable and once you get used to it, you will lose no momentum at the moment of switching items. Because you are playing on the PS TV, you don't have acess to this feature. There may be a homebrew plugin that will let you remap the directional buttons to the upper shoulder buttons of a ps3 controller, but im not too sure. Also, all the minigame servers are way more active than you might think, it usually depends of the time of day, and if you host the game yourself, you will find people that will join in no time.

Minecraft was the first game I played ever. I dad gave me his xbox 360 and I chose what 3 year old me saw Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. Going back now, I wish I'd cherish old minecraft then and what the game gave me. Without minecraft, I probably wouldn't play anything. Thanks Minecraft, for making the best memories ever. :)

Never got why people love console edition so much. Yes, it's nostalgic, I played xbox 360 edition and MCPE for the first 4 years I played Minecraft. But bedrock is just objectively better. I rejoiced when PS4 edition switched to Bedrock because I could play on servers and with people all around the world. It was amazing. I'm now a Java Edition player tho

I think it has a lot to do with bedrock prioritizing monetized gameplay, most of which is of low quality. I think having a marketplace where the community can make money off of their creations is good, but most of those "creators" are now larger groups that put more effort into advertising than they do products. It's become a big money cow more than it has a quality game.
I think since console legacy was always developed by Mojang and 4J, it was always quality and none of the DLC was cheap or a ripoff.
I'm aware Microsoft wants to make money still off a game they sell you once, but obviously quality isn't what they care about when monetizing.
@@Bearman3600 Most DLC I bought for Bedrock on switch has been official: Steven Universe pack, Toy Story Pack, Mariopaack. I have nevevvvr bought anything from the Marketplace aside a pack called ''Ultimate Weapons'' which adds a couple of weapons and a handful of new enemies and a miniboss, and also includes a world full of cool structures to explore. So it was one of those quality maps.

I find it hard to ignore when the first thing you see when you open the game is a vibrant advertisement for the Marketplace button, but I do get what you mean.
I think overall, the UI differences and glitchyness of Bedrock just make it feel like a less quality product. Any console legacy game feels like a solid, competent game. Bedrock has always felt unstable and barely kept together to me, like every update introduces a new bug you have to get used to for awhile.
I respect your preference of Bedrock though, there's a lot it has that console legacy could never offer.
Maybe I'll do some video comparing both of them in the future, I just don't like a lot of the corporate stuff behind Bedrock aswell, some very shitty practices on Microsoft's end.

Bro this was such a trip down memory lane, like my god i remember playing this allot because i didn't buy a ps3 or 4, and i remember all the little moments here and there, i especially loved the Minigames and remember the hunger games styled one foundly, i loved the sand/pirate ship map and the elytra and snow tile minigames
when it comes to portable minecraft, don't forget about the New 3DS edition! still playable to this day. it's a fork of pocket edition, so not technically a legacy console edition. but it's legit. it's probably the most feature-complete portable way to play without just being Bedrock

I played the PSVita version for HOURS, I remember playing the LBP crossover endlessly, it's so nostalgic for me.
The best part about this version was that when it released, CrossBuy was bugged. If you downloaded the Vita demo, it gave you the full PS3 version for free, and if you then downloaded the full PS3 version, it gave you the full PSVITA version for free. So you got could get the Vita and PS3 version for free

I remember playing hours of this edition back in 2014, waiting for the updates for console edition and playing right after updating, i loved playing online with friends while talking to them on the party app, i really never enjoyed minecraft the same after i stopped playing this edition

I was REALLY impressed with this back in the day. It WAS a portable version of the full Xbox 360/PS3 version of the game.
I've spent infinite time on the PS VITA Edition until I stopped playing in 2018 since my screen broke. I finally fixed the screen though last year and I've had a blast revisiting worlds. I left them all untouched though and created a new world which I still play regularly
Instead of getting a smartphone like everyone else my age did at the time, for Christmas of 2016, 13 year old me asked for a psVita.
We didn't have internet at home and I never got an SD card to expand the possible storage, so Minecraft was the only game I could play.
I have very fond memories of this version of the game. Despite its very obvious technical drawbacks when you revisit it today, this port of the game was the main reason Minecraft is so important to me today.
I often go back and even take inspiration from younger me, that had so many charming ideas for his world that weren't bogged down with modern standards for building or playing the game. I'm glad I had this.
I'd give anything for these days again. The transfer feature got so many modded worlds over to my ps4 and the memories i made with people won't go away anytime soon.
important to note that while the vita display is 960x544 games rarely ran at native res, minecraft being one of them (its 360 pixels vertical i believe?). with vitagrafix youre able to actually display it in native resolution and my god.. mwah

I love this version of Minecraft. Prior to its updates, it was the only version of Minecraft that plays Aria Math in Survival Mode, which makes me come back to this version more than others.
Overclocking my Vita (modded) solved all my Vita edition problems and made most games like Attack on Titan buttery smooth to play without noticeable battery life drops
I got the ps vita edition in 2016-2017ish and I still remember my firdt time finding diamonds and celebrating in the mcdonalds line.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ps VITA edition throughout it's life. I played it from pretty much physical release in Europe till the end.
I loved the first versions on Minecraft Ps VITA. In this I am talking about 2014-2016. Near the end of 2016, when the big heavier updates designed for pc came around to PS Vita, you really saw the PS-Vita stutter.. a lot. I recall waiting !!5!! minutes to load the Update Aquatic tutorial world, and it being absolutely unplayable.
Despite this, I loved every moment of it. I played via Ad Hoc with friends on the bus, at home through PSN (which, like the PS3, allowed you to play online WITHOUT Ps Plus). There was something about it you know, it had this vibe to it.. I played hours on end on this edition. My most favorite activity was playing survival
SADLY (yes, there is a SADLY) my Ps-Vita died by cooking itself in 2018.. all my saves lost. The only remainder of it in my home are the games, which were Minecraft, Rayman and for some reason the very bad Lego Marvel game and screenshots I uploaded to Ps Vita facebook
