@@Tronicsfix Thanks for all of the knowlege Steve. I really appreciate your videos. I was wondering if you know where I can find an OEM NES shell, specifically the top half. I repaired 2 NES consoles from my childhood, but the top shell is badly yellowed and cracked from me and my brothers giving them the beat down in our youth. I see a lot of interesting after-market shells, but they seem to all be $100 +. I was hoping you maybe had a decent (doesn't have to be perfect) OEM shell you'd be willing to part with. I love this new series of fixing customer return salvage! So fun to just see such an array of issues and fixes (and the occasional customer scam of returning an inferior item in the wrong box)
For the series1 elite controller grips, I’ve had success with rubber glue for repairing inner tubes and then using dental floss to wrap around the grips. Keeps even pressure
Some of the best quotes on all UA-cam are "the perfect amount of thermal paste" and "the greatest technician that's ever lived" Hope you are doing better Steve!
Oh damn, been a few months since I have watched any of your videos. Had no idea of your diagnosis, and treatment. Glad to see you are doing well! I had Hodgkins in 2015. 9 years clear as of a couple of days ago. Wishing you the same! Here's to many more years!
Sometimes I wonder why you don't just use water...lke that case has no electronics..just some basic water and a sponge..soak it for a moment and save you time...but of course maybe your camera setup isn't for that. Keep the great content coming and stay healthy!
I love your videos but i really need to know why you don't clean things in soapy water (thing like the console and controller shells) and make your life easier?? Keep it up and congrats on your remission!!
For the rubber grips, not sure, but I think you could put them in a hot water for a while and they would get back to original shape. At least worth the try, as it cost nothing. Great vid as always
Some types of rubber swell with oils (like skin creams, etc). That rubber stuff on old drills used to swell up and delaminate from prolinged contact with engine oil.
Watching this give me the will to fix more and more stuff, forgetting I have a ton of PS4's that I couldn't fix because I'm bad at reballing, and completely destroyed them... That feeeling is so weird...
Amazing video. I've been watching you for about 2 years now, and the content's only getting better. Also, you got lucky on those last few consoles, they were a simple fix.
video also shows that customers return damaged stuff they broke to get money back. heck even outright scam sending other stuff back that they bought since amazon cant tell the diffenence between a switch zelda edition and a normal one or an oled
People can be pretty nasty. I used to work at a car dealer and brand new cars would sometimes come back in a week to a month and be more dirty, damaged, and smelly inside than my 8 year old car.
I love your videos! I've learned a lot through your vids about how to keep my electronics alive and i'm so grateful as its gotten me out of some "sticky" situations. I love my asus rog, i do analog replacements on controllers myself as well and finding out its just screws for the rog makes me so happy lol, just like the nintendo switch joy cons. It really should be a standard for analog sticks
Great video! With the ROG Ally check the MicroSD card is working, there is a common fault with the console where the MicroSD cards stop reading and also toasting the cards too
Suggestion -- when you have soda pop on the plastic covers and such, just soak them in warm water for a little while, then rinse with the spray nozzle attachment on your sink. It will come right off, even in the crevasses. Sugar dissolves quickly in warm/hot water.
great video! if you dont have those pointy q tips you can just pull a bit of fluff off a regular cotton swab and make it smaller to fit in the holes! glad to see you're on the mend! cheers from MapleLand
Great video! You might try a dunk in plastic storage bin, with some water and dish soap, for those cases that have liquid junk on them. There wasn't any labels or electronics, so it shouldn't hurt anything. 😊
Nice work! A tip for cleaning up sticky substances like pop, use water, not isopropyl alcohol. It's super easy to clean with water as it will dissolve it right away. On plastics it's easy to submerge and clean. For electronics I clean with cotton swabs and water first and then go over the area with cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol. Last, I blast it with my DataVac to make sure there isn't any remaining liquid.
Cleaning shells I literally put it in the kitchen sink and a toothbrush and Dawn dish soap works wonders. Afterwards I blow them off completely dry with an air compressor.
I still can't quite figured out why you use cotton swabs to clean things up. You can do a lot more efficiently you use a tooth brush and use microfibre cloth to wipe it out.
I have an og elite controller and what I did when my grips on the back started coming off slightly, put a silicone mold over the whole controller that I liked. It’s a nice black color so it doesn’t distract and it has some slight grip to it. Still got a full working elite og today. 😂 💜

Good work, very satisfying video. But it should be easier to bath the shell parts in soap water instead of building up a graveyard of Q-Tips and IPA to get them cleaned 😅

That series s should have gone to Restorish as well; Nasty! Great Video and Repairs. Very funny as well! Happy you're in Remission Super Steve!! Take Care, and Thank You. 😀
For soda/grimy plastic parts, may I suggest a dishwasher, either top rack or no heat. Should work a treat, and more people have than ultrasonic cleaners.
Big plastic case pieces on the consoles and controllers can be washed in soapy water with a toothbrush. It’s a lot easier to get it fully cleaned up. I use a small plastic tub full of hot soapy water and it is a lot faster and u get better results.
plastic parts you can just wash with detergent and dry too look as good as new. you can also wash electronics as long as you have an oven with PID controlled temperature.
I recommend when cleaning off the larger pieces of the metal casing for the series s or the plastic shell to use paper towel wet with IPA instead of wasting 100 qtips
