im glad you recovered well from the sickness buddy
Reading the comments it seems like this is a recent recording, looking healthy buddy. You keep making the vids, we'll keep watching 'em. Cheers!
I read that you're in remission!!!! I've been following you for so long brother. I hope you're well. Enjoy your time. You deserve every second at this point.
Thanks for your kind words!
It made me really happy to see your hair in the preview screen! I work pretty late nights in a startup, and your videos are wonderful company
When youre trying to bend plastic, get a cup of water and put it in the microwave and heat it up to steaming temp or very hot and take the plastic piece and hold it in the water to soften it up before you try to bend it. This helps soften it up so it doesnt snap, even though it still can sometimes depending on the plastic but it doesnt help make it more malleable. Its and old trick toy customizers use when trying to fix plastic parts. Cheers.
What's so crazy is just how poorly many people take care of their own belongings.
I'm glad to see how complicated the wifi issue was and that I didn't waste $100 to nintedo for something I could have done. Thank you for taking on the issue.
From video to video you start to look better and better. I am happy for you and your beloved ones. Thanks to you im looking to get into welding and fixing stuff. :)
havent been using youtube for a while, but im seeing the hair coming back.... probably wont see this but in the chances you do... massive congratulations on the recovery! very glad to see it.
For gaps after using the hot water trick, use baking powder and superglue! The baking powder will also help to strengthen joints and accelerate curing.
15:30 a little heat from hot air station or some kind of hot air gun or even hairdryer could help imo.
Yeah, I know, for every new "technique" some experience is needed, might get it melted, but practice makes perfect, right?
Nice video like always 🖖
JB Weld is pretty permanent... You could just mix a bit up and shove the metal bits into the holes they came out of :D
Thanks for another great video!
as far as the screw inserts, I have used a blob of metallized epoxy (jb weld is one brand name) to patch stuff, drilled, and tapped it.
It worked but I don't know that it would work in every case - definitely shave it down when it's still pliable so it fits back together correctly - all the repairs I did that way were on cars (radiator mount, but they're huge bolts and have three other ones holding it up, things like that where it shares the load instead of being a primary stress point for the attachment).
also so that's what compacted cheeto dust looks like
Hey mate! Glad to see you have recovered well
Dont forget to test the micro sd card slot!
If that doesnt work you cant install custom firmware, or have many big games on them
Those white joy-cons, you can try using the thin wire mesh and melt it into the cracked area instead of glue, it holds and lasts longer. There are some other repair groups that share how to crack repair ABS. Just a suggestion, I've done it a couple of times few things that I can't find replacement parts/frames for.
Get a good multimeter then you will know
I worked at a Best Buy with those same PRC tags, and most of the time, customers just returned them (me included) with no problems. They just wanted to renew their protection plan or just wanted to upgrade
Heck of a deal!
It's nice when they surprise you in a good way.
congratulations on recovery!!!
Us watchmakers use a thing called pegwood which you buy in packs quite cheaply, you can shape it for the insides of say USB C ports and its dead good at removing old oils, residues, dirt and grime without tearing up metal traces, think of it as a hard q tip perhaps but its soft enough to be a decent but not destructive abrading medium. BTW good to see you looking hale and hearty, keep up the good fight always :D
Using a trick from the TTRPG community, if you have plastic pieces you need to bend you can warm up some water close to boiling (I warm water in the microwave) and then dip the plastic piece to bend into the hot water for a few seconds to make it pliable. Once it cools, it'll retain the new shape. Tabletop gamers do this to fix arms or weapons that get bent out of shape for various reasons.
Not all plastics are the same. The soft plastics used for models are not the same as hard plastics used for high temperature applications like console cases.
you can try green stuff, its a two part putty used in plastic modeling it'll dry into a plastic and then you can paint it.
Man happy to see you all well
2:00 boi do I have a switch lite for you I got from a seller. 😂
Also, glad to hear you are doing better!!!
Hi Steve, What is your opinion on Hot Tweezers? Love your videos. Just got a thermal Paste shirt. Great Quality. i am so happy that you are recovering well.
Had I known, I would have purchased an oled tablet from you. I recently was looking to upgraded the tablet on my old system. I wound up just buying a totk oled and my wife took my old one.
The switch lite definitely fell prey to a big dog like a pit bull or something. You'd be surprised how strong dogs jaws and teeth are
for the joycon I wonder if using an acetone on the seam for the screw hold would have worked. If the shell is made with ABS the acetone will weld it back together
Miss the hair man😂 hope you are feeling good now buddy
that wifi error from what ive seen online is a hardware error, i didnt find any fix for it though. as for board swapping joycons, this ends up with the color reported in the os being different from the shell, but theres homebrew that can fix that
Glad you're getting better man👏
People just don't take care of their stuff. That last one specifically. Unbelievable.
Try using a bit of baking soda around the ripped our plastic screw seat, it makes a very strong bond.
I just tore apart a set of the white OLED joy-cons for modifications (oops, its no longer under warranty. 😂) and every single button opening had specs of dried crimson... I've never seen such grime in any device I've torn down to modify...ever.
I wound up just throwing the old shell in a pile of junk and put the internals into a brand new shell.
Dont lissen to the idiots who say ”you are not fixing stuff” i Repair on komponent level but if i can change part to make it live i do it every time. Keep up the good work!
I wonder if you could use something like JB weld to fill those stripped screw studs and then re-tap the holes
I mean, the point of work like this is reducing e-waste. I, for one, LOVE that you use other parts!! I challenge these commenters to create new chipsets and board and install them 😂
The best part of having a business like this is having LOTS of extra parts laying around, lol
And people wonder why costs have skyrocketed. Businesses will actually take these as returns. I would love for more businesses to start rejecting returns.
No...Then the incentive to sell quality product is lowered. The retailers need to open the return box and decline returns that are not legitimate.
When it comes to electronics, if you have a problem with the product, you deal with the manufacturer, not Best Buy or Target. All of these Switches were a case of them being abused and then returned to the store to scam them.
@steed262 they all look like protection plan fulfilments. Usually have accidental. Basically like insurance. Best Buy loses nothing on these because they purchase underwriten policies for each plan they sell. Their profit is fixed at that point so making the exchange costs nothing aside from negligible logistics costs.
@@stevenmackey789 That's a good point. I didn't think about people who purchase the protection plans which covers damage like this.
Part of the problem is not having any employees with the time or willingness to check the returns. I'm actually pretty surprised that those made it through, even considering that.
When using crazy glue add a bit of baking soda and it will make it a lot stronger!!
that chewed up one is right in line with a chompy dog like a rottweiler, pitbull, or bulldog. We once tied out pit to the table to go out, thinking he'd be fine. We got home, he ate all 4 legs off the table. Never dawned on him to chew the leash. He was stubborn, but not that bright.
Hey, Steve! Why don't you ever change the liquid pads?
I love it when "Pros" call others "Parts changers". LOL, how micro does that term get? Because even someone who fills a hole by welding is just changing out the metal that used to be there.
Calling someone a "parts changer" is just cope, for the fact that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to use a soldering iron.
I'm no parts changer. I drill my own oil and mine my own ore, refine them into plastics and metal. I make my own SMD components with my own two hands ~~and extreme inferiority complex~~.
A small amount of epoxy glue like JB Weld would hold those studs nicely
I’m glad your recovering well from cancer! You have a strong soul! Keep smiling 😊
The right joycon pcb from timestamp 25:45 is from a Golden joycon (zelda totk edition maybe).
39:17 what are capacitors that are open? aren't all capacitors open?
Do you know about the trick of using baking powder to make the super glue joint a lot stronger, BY adding the powder before adding the glue.
Screw-Studs - you could use JB-Weld to put the stud into it... :)
The white joystick you could heat the plastic a little to take out the bump
I remember these units from a previous video. I know it says it’s an extended version but it’s also a rerun.
It's just a longer version for anyone who wants to see the extra steps that get cut out from the main video, not sure if I'd exactly call it a re-run.
For the first one, you kept the same back plate for serial number purposes, but you swapped the board so isn't the serial number technically the donor switch SN now?
Back in action.
What kind of round clamp is that - never seen that before
So these were returns but no joy cons? Did the customers keep the joycons (and if so, why was the return accepted) or did the retailer keep the joycons?
So strange you would get any boxes at all, given so much of else was missing (Edit: just saw the TotK scam return. People definitely taking advantage of a lazy retailer).
Sweet work Steve 11/13 ain’t bad fix rate even with 6 that daint need nowt doing to em
The condition of these consoles is why there should be restrictions on who can buy things. Treating hundreds of dollars worth of electronics like it's trash. Makes me absolutely sick
That is dumb. They paid for it what ever they do to it is their prerogative. If someone told you that you couldn't buy a car because your car broke down.
@@texastwitcher3392 this is America. Companies can refuse to sell you anything whenever they want for whatever reason.
@@thagerdorn2009”sorry we don’t want to sell you the product we made for kids cause your kids will likely damage it and you’ll potentially buy another” -an imaginary company that hates money
@@rp479 you're missing the point, and you're probably one of those people who let your kids treat their stuff with disrespect...the point is, take care of your shit. It's not that hard. That's why stuff lasts me, and even my son who's almost 6. He takes care of his stuff, because I taught him right.
@@thagerdorn2009lol you actually completely missed the point I was making about your comment. I didn’t say anything about letting kids abuse their toys.
Just a reminder that baking soda and graphite powder reinforces super glue and cures it nearly instantly.
This is great information!
Legend Steve ❤
Somehow I believe I’ve seen this one before, who could forget that chewed up switch?
Would love to see more intensive repairs in the future. Work that involves traces, chip changes and finding shorts. Those would be much more educational than swapping parts and changing shells.
for those joy cons, you can send them back to nintendo to fix for free. It will take about a week to get them back.
You should try a plastic welder for that broken controller.
Man, how many repairs are just replacing broken items by working items? I mean... mind boggling, right...?
All hail the thermal king!
Quick question, a locking tab on my joy con won't stay closed is there a way to keep the pressure on the ribbon cable I thought super glue but I'm no expert
2:33 I laughed when the dog chew-toy booted.
That was one hungry pooch
Mmmm blueberry flavored chew-toy (expensive)
Love these videos!!!!!
Serious question, even in working condition, are the tablets w/o Joy cons even worth $123?
Hello Tronics!! Can you please tell me from where i can buy Amtech Flux ( the original one ) from europe? I found only in America and it costs about 20 USD and the shipping it's about 40 ~ 50 USD.. tooo muchhh! Thank you :D
I live in North Carolina and sent shanefix a Xbox series x and he tried but said it might have a apu problem but couldn't fix it. It still turns on but freezes at times
Those look like there from best buy because I seen the sticker before
Where do you order these boxes from? I’d like to buy bulk repair like this myself
The stickers are the ones used at BestBuy, so probably bought from BestBuy's liquidation website
Dog chewed the purple one ether that or some kid was hungry 😂😂😂
Lol!
JB Weld that screw mount.
I Like the Dog Chew toy switch the best.. Ima give our dog my Switch too so Robert can fix it~!! XDDD
22:10 that is a REALLY bad design anyway, can't imagine how simply dropping the controller on the button itself could cause the switch to tear off the pads on the board and break so catastrophically, that's bad Nintendo!
JB Weld would work :)
I mean, almost 99% of repairs are just replacing parts. I don't know why people want to get so specific about stuff. Dead screen? Replace it. Dead capacitor? Replace it. What more do they want?
You want him to build a screen from scratch before replacing it?
Buen video
hmmm best buy returns
it says extended because the original is from 9 months ago. feels like the directors cut now, lol.
Sad that over 8 year old hardware hasn’t dropped in price.
its called a nutsert if u r interested
So what was it .🤔
The purple dog edition....
This video is 8 months old why is it being posted like it’s a new video? I’m not sure this is really him.
Even replacing is fixing people... car mechanic also replace the broken part and you call it fixed. So why it should be different here? Also soldering new chip is also just replacing. Just a bit more in depth.
I ❤ you do it so it work.
Alcohol wont break down sugars. A water dipped q tip will.
Distilled water maybe was just a apprentice in the 90s
Just wash the motherboard with soap and water and then hang it on the clothes line to dry, just like your favorite pair of undies.
Quite honestly, if you want to reduce the chance of a buy disputing with eBay, you should be providing as much relevant information in the description anyway.
"Extended Version" ah, i have seen the other one.
Who the Frick would attempt to return a chewed up switch?
They might have had the accidental damage protection plan XD
Someone reeeeeally hungry but broke
@xert_13 that makes sense, duh.🙂
Best Buy. Likely an accidental plan fulfillment.
Don't they check the returns. WTF.
Sorry to see you were ripped-off and Scammed... OLED - They should know better.
Question say I buy one on Amazon and do the same return the crap and keep the good one couldn't Amazon just call the cops and have them trace it back to my address 😅😂
seems like dog bites to me on de lite
120 a piece?? You are insane, I barely paid 200 for my fully functional! Get some sense!
1600 way too much no just no
This has to be kids or people that are lazy brats that don’t take care of thier stuff i refuse to believe these were own by 20 something and up adults. I keep my Oled nice and clean in docked mode.
